Episode description

In a very excellent article by Mark Tyrrell of Uncommon Knowledge, in his Therapy Skills series, I'll leave the link to the article below, so you can read it for yourself.

In this article, Mark gives us a very interesting and intriguing  different perspective on  "Addiction."

Our brains have a reward system and it's the neuro-transmitter called Dopamine that's responsible. This chemical provides us the ability to become highly focussed with the ability to learn and advance. There are other chemicals called endorphins, giving us the feel-good factor. Natural reward system.

If the above sounds familiar, yes you are on to something. And if the word, "Addiction" pops into your head, you are correct.

The same chemicals that contribute to having an addiction are responsible for the feel-good factor, the satisfying feeling, the elation of having achieved something. It's the brain's natural reward system.

In short in order for us to become addicted, we must practice, practice, practice. more and more and more in order to get that natural high.

I suggest you take a look at the article for yourself. I highly recommend it and indeed much of Uncommon Knowledge's materials are exceedingly excellent.
