What if mindset coaching was focused on being practical instead of just being positive? Practical, as in, you could practice it. Welcome to Unlifted Essentials. In these mini episodes, you'll learn the enlisted system of practical mindset tools to unlock freedom and confidence for yourself and your clients. Let's do this. Kimberly. Hi. Hi, Mark England. So when you were in high school, how many classes did you have about how to use your language to stay focused on the things that matter?
Keep the drama low. Build yourself up in your imagination and create very strong feelings of confidence. and the ability to move forward and prosper in your life how many how many classes did you have like that big fat zero what seriously really seriously how many okay private school education too goodness well okay well i'm sure you had some classes about how your language influences your breathing for better and for worse, of course, obviously. What? No? No. Double zeros?
Nobody ever taught me how to breathe. Well, you know what? I can join that club too because you went to private school. I went to public school. I have a degree in education. I have a master's degree in international education. And I taught for a number of years, elementary school PE. So the punchline here, folks, is that most people's education about their language comes down to spelling, traditional spelling.
grammar, and definitions. Most people have little to know, zero training, education about how to get their language working for them. Most people's language is silently, secretly working against them. And that's why we're here. That's why we're doing this podcast. Everybody, see all these shows in one form or fashion as class, because that's how we see them.
We're here and you'll get it quick as you're going to get more quality information about how your language influences you for better and for worse than most people ever get in their entire life. And when we talk about language. We're talking about internal dialogue and external dialogue. Our thoughts, our speech, and our writing. There are ways that you can, you can, I can, Kimberly can, we all have, use our language.
to inflame situations in our imagination, create feelings of resentment, guilt, fear, not being good enough, sadness, all the good stuff, and maintain those feelings. God knows how long. Time does not apply to the emotional body. If you've got a pen, write that down and think about it. You're going to learn more about the power of our words than most people do in their entire lifetime.
Take out the likely on this podcast, this one show, this first show. That's it. One episode. So the power of our words is the center point of...
¶ Abracadabra: Creating With Your Words
the Unlifted Method, we're going to talk about the magic words to start. What's the number one magic word? It's obviously abracadabra. So here's the backstory, folks. When I was, as you do, living up in the mountains of Ecuador, writing a book. I went out to dinner one day, one night with friends, and there was a guy, and he knew I was in the language game, and he said, hey, Mark, you know what abracadabra means? And I'm like, yeah, buddy, magic, so what?
He goes, no, no, no, no, no. There's more to it than that. Abracadabra is Aramaic. I'm like, what? He goes, yep. It's one of the two languages Jesus spoke. It's a language the original Old Testament was written. It's old, and people still speak it in some parts of the Middle East today. Okay, cool, great. Now what? What's next? Abracadabra.
is Aramaic, and it translates to with my word I create or with my word I influence. And the hair on my arms next, I put my fork down when I sat next to him. I said, What else you got? Tell me everything. Look this up. People of the day would triangulate it, wear it around their neck to remind them of the power and the mechanism of the spoken word.
And they actually believed that it would ward off negativity or it would actually siphon out or dispel, which means to cast out spells, dispels, abracadabra, magic. It would dispel negative energy. And then the second magic word that we need to know is the definition of a spell, Webster's definition of a spell. Okay? It's very simple. A word.
or a combination of words of great influence. So when someone says, I can't keep living like this, and they make a picture of them continuing to live like that, and creates the appropriate feelings and emotions, and then tightens himself up. That's a combination of words of great influence. Or things work out for me when I show up.
That's a different combination of words, which is going to create a much more pleasant picture, a little mental movie. Better feelings. It's going to help people breathe better. And all of this stuff adds up. Kimberly Kesting. True. We form our beliefs and stories about ourselves based on these spells that we cast on ourselves that other people cast on us. What do we do about it? Well, first things first is to learn.
the magic words, that there is magic in our language, or should I say there's power? That's a much better way to say it. There's power in our language. And we can use our language, our words, our thoughts, our speech, and our writing. And most people do it accidentally, of course, unconsciously. Most people, and I opened a couple of years of workshops like this. Hey, I'm Mark. Thanks for coming. How do you want to feel?
And everyone can tell you how they want to feel in a matter of seconds. It's under five. And yet they have this conflict, this chaos, these problems going on in their life, these residual feelings of ugh. And why is that the case? We learn about our words so we can become more powerful, potent, creators, confident creators, storytellers in our lives and other people and do cool stuff.
Do cool shit. Most people's language, and we're going to elaborate on this in some of the other lifted essential shows that we're doing. We're doing a series of short shows right now at the Lake House. in Moneta. Okay, there's a lake right out there, Smith Mountain Lake. We're up here recording these bite-sized chunks to give people a general framework of why it's important to pay.
More attention to your thoughts, to your speech, to what you write, because if you do, you're going to find out that there's a lot of opportunity to make fantastic improvements and a little bit of...
¶ How Language Shapes Our Reality
Some seemingly minor adjustments in our everyday ordinary language. It does tremendous things for us right now and then downstream. Because most people's language, it... It turns them into innocent bystanders, Kimberly. You've seen this. Everyone in the Unlifted coaching community sees this because they've learned to see it. They've learned to understand the English language, how it's used currently today.
is tricking people into being spectators in their life instead of participants, innocent bystanders instead of active participants in their own story. I want to be an active participant in my story. I want to be a creator of my life. I want to make things happen. What do I do? Okay. Abracadabra. With my words I create, with my words I influence. Got it. That seems magical. Awesome. Spells. People are casting spells on me. I'm casting spells on myself. A combination of words.
Of great influence? Okay, language is important. What does it influence? How is it influencing me? It's influenced me for better or for worse. How? Fantastic question. If you've got a pen, everybody write this down. and important numbers moving forward. We remember 30% of what we hear, 50% of what we write, and 80% of what we teach. So when we hit pen to paper, you're boosting your attention by 20%, and that's a big deal.
When we say our language influences us, we're talking about four key aspects of our experience of ourselves. One, our imagination. Two, our emotions, feelings and emotions. Three, our posture. You ever talk yourself into a good mood? You're walking in a certain way. You ever talk yourself into a bad mood? Stay there long enough.
The body starts to droop. Yep. Posture. And then our breath. Most people's breath and gun to head. We are. We're known as the language people. And it's about the breathing. We unlock the breath. Better language, better words, better stories unlocks our breath. Most people are walking around in an upregulated, a sustained, upregulated, stressed state. The breath is trapped in the chest.
life a whole lot harder on so many levels, walking around, breathing in your chest, known as shallow breathing, labored breathing, coastal breathing. You make some seemingly minor adjustments in your everyday ordinary language. You're going to make better pictures, better movies in your imagination. You're going to create better feelings and emotions for you and the other people in your life because guess what? We share our emotional status with people. Newsflash.
Your posture will improve. That's always fun. And your breathing is going to unlock and it's going to descend down into your abdomen. Low and slow breathing, parasympathetic nervous system response.
¶ Practical Mindset for Behavior Change
We're designed to thrive, breathing there most of the time. So is this like mindset work? Is that what we're talking about here? We're changing the game of mindset. One very good reason, because it's missing a vital component. And that vital component, mindset, it's great. Let's keep talking about it. And let's include...
what words to use less of and why, and what words to use more of and why. Because that's where the rubber meets the road. Mindset, most of the time, it resides in a big picture macro conversation. It's something I know I need to get better at, but how there's that confident looking woman over there that looks fun and I'm over here, whoops, would have been nice. When you include, hey, stop using so much soft talk.
We're going to get into that later. Reflect your projections. Stop staring at the worst case scenario here. Here's the words that are forcing you to do that, whether you like it or not. And use just a few more of these words from time to time. Then mindset becomes practical, as in you can practice thinking, speaking, and writing in ways that serve you and the people you love way more. So if I make my mindset more practical...
and I'm able to tinker with the words in my mind, tinker with the words on my paper, change the words that I use when I speak, are you telling me that my actions and behavior are going to be different? A thousand percent. Words create stories. Stories build our identity and identity drives behavior in our actions. So that's what I'm talking about when I say you make some seemingly minor adjustments in your...
Your language today, it's going to have a very powerful downstream knockoff effect on a lot of stuff. Wow. And there's a system for this. Yeah, it's called the Unlifted Method. It's rad. It's the best out there. We're the best in the business. Keep listening to these mini classes and the rest of our podcasts and you be the judge.
