Pulling Together (Meyer)

In just about every organization, vision or mission or purpose is seen as paramount to the organization’s success. If the organization doesn’t have a vision, mission or purpose, the organization will flounder and will also likely fail. More importantly, the vision, mission and purpose of the organization must be embraced and lived by all. If members of an organization are pulling in opposite or even multiple directions, the organization will be split and divided and demise will soon follow. And....

Others First (Meyer)

As we begin our “Koinonia” sermon series, we are reminded that our life lived as Christian people is not lived for ourselves, but for others. This is a difficult truth for us to embrace because we’re raised to believe that “me first” is an acceptable mantra. And it would be acceptable...if we were just Americans. But we’re not just Americans, we’re American-Christians, or Christians who happen to live in America. As such, we can show a better way to those around us as we show them Jesus’ way by ...

Choose Joy (Johnson)

I have heard it said that happiness is based on externals while joy is based on internals. Happiness can come and go based on life circumstances but joy, true joy, has the ability to be claimed every day. This week we will be encouraged to choose joy no matter what is going on in our lives. Jesus promised us in John 16:33 that in this life we have many troubles but we can take heart, we can choose joy, because Jesus has overcome the world.

Run with Endurance (Meyer)

A life lived for Jesus is definitely more of a marathon than a sprint. To make it to the end will take determination, it will take great faith and it will take endurance. Paul encourages us all this week to run our race of faith, not with our own strength, but with the strength that comes from God Himself. In this life we will face many obstacles, we will endure many heartbreaks, we will have times when our faith wavers but thank be to God that the one who called us is faithful and will never le...

Embrace Diversity (Johnson)

In Psalm 139 scriptures tells us that God is the one who formed our inward parts and every human being finds their origin in His divine imagination. Like paint strokes on a canvas God is created something that is spectacular. The sad part is that many people do not embrace the diversity of this world and focus more on the externals than the internals. This week we are challenged and encouraged by scripture to embrace diversity and recognize that what binds Christians together is Christ in us no ...

Seek Unity (Meyer)

Have you heard the phrase that “Team work makes the dream work”? In this first week we will be reminded and encouraged that no matter what is going on in our lives we are Seek Unity with one another. Paul is specifically speaking to the church body and in the way they live out their faith in their communities. Division, gossiping, lying, etc only work to Satan’s advantage to tear a church down but the Spirit of God is greater than the spirit of this world and with that power we also seek after u...

Facing Fear (Meyer)

It has been said that when we lose faith fear is there to take its place. We so often fear what we cannot control, fear what we cannot understand, and fear what might happen if we step outside of our comfort zones. 1 John 4:18 says that there is no fear in love but perfect love casts out all fear. As we live through this perfect love given to us in Christ we are empowered to step boldly and faithfully into the good works that have been prepared for us. We lean not on our own understanding or pow...

Making Meaningful Moments (Johnson)

Is there anything more valuable than time? Whatever we claim as priorities in life we tend to give our time to. This week Paul is reminding us all of our primary calling as followers of Jesus. Paul is urging us to prioritize this, value this, and make time for this. How do we do that? What does that mean for the other things we value?
