Hello, let's look at a Fun Fact Friday. We are weekly podcasts. And there's a lizard above us.
There's a lizard. He's just looking at. I might be a shadow. I can't tell where weekly podcast where we discuss different topics surrounding. Wait. We discussed top discussing
different episodes each week.
Okay, so it's almost over. Yeah. All right, everybody. Here's the thing.
Here's the thing.
As you can see from the title of this episode, we're sick.
We're not I'm not super sick anymore.
I'm not I'm not feeling great. Mostly just like a stuffy nose. And I'm going to try really hard not to sniffle.
Yeah, I guess he got the the easier version.
Yeah, I just got stopped up and a little bit of fatigue. Free Trial. Yeah. I got. I got the demo version. Yeah, fix my mic here. There we go. So we are not doing a full fact filled fun episode this week. We are. We do have good news stories. But we're going to recap what happened last week, because there was no episode. You know,
thinking sort of call this our Spotify rewind.
Oh, no. Except
we only Spotify. I still use it.
So last week, we missed our show because of two things. Number one, we are sick. Now we weren't sick yet. But we were in a play with our local community theater center stage theater. Yeah. And we did a Christmas carol gone wrong. It was super fun. It was really fun. We had a really good time, we met a lot of really cool people. And we essentially it was, you know, your standard Christmas Story play. But and, and the way that it was written was like the it was like putting on the show as
a local community theater. But we haven't rehearsed. But we haven't rehearsed. And there's people missing and people had to like take their their script out onto the stage with them and hide it. And people were filling in for other people last second. And just a lot of funny situations. Like props and furniture on the set would get knocked over and somebody had to like sneak out and grab it. Leila, why don't you Why don't you tell? Tell them about your your parts in the play.
So I was stage crew, which is a part. We did have a couple of funny moments. But we had the task of taking everything off the stage putting everything on the stage and dragging the stage manager off the stage. Because she got knocked out what three times Yeah,
three or four times.
Yeah. Which was part of the play where she would just like hit her head on something.
And or one of the one of the ghosts would knock her out or something. Yeah, good stuff. You also had more parts than them.
Yeah, I was a guest in the frat party scene. We I was an ad.
So yeah, yeah, she was an advertisement. Our show is against advertising. But it wasn't like we got paid or the theatre company got paid or anything. For this. It's it was kind of an inside joke for our county. Yeah, there's a pork center down the road. Eastern Carolina has real big into pork. And there's a pork center down the road called no hana pork center. And it got a big a big laugh out of the audience. You know, we're looking at a free shirt. And yeah, Leila got our
free no hana pork center center shirt. And they also did a Mount Olive pickles ad. Yeah, which Mount Olive is right down the road also. So that got a big oh my gosh, that pickle jar got the biggest laugh out of anybody. And the first show that we did. That was really fun. Yeah, got the most applause. Because
we were just lining up to do one of our little or I think the Nanda thing came right after about pickle things. We were lined up to go out and do the little cert thing. And we just heard all the clapping really what what just happened? Yeah,
I played the narrator. The narrator Narrator Narrator So, I was a grandpa reading to his three grandchildren. There was some argument among the grandchildren as to whether they were siblings or cousins. And I was like, it's irrelevant, but they they really needed that information. It was fun. I had fun. The grandkids were all great. And then at one point, I'm like, you know, are you going to put your cookies out for Santa? Have you put your cookies out for Santa yet?
Because it's bedtime? And they're like we put something better offers and delicious mount all pickles and yes stood up and held up a big huge jar of pickles that the company gave us. I love and they had mental health pickle shirts on. It was fun. It was a fun show. We did a show, the first show was for seventh graders. So that was like a field trip. Yeah. Our toughest audience. And then yeah, and then fourth graders. And this is this is the one that got me. We were I was on stage I
was like, often a little alcove to the side of the stage. And I could see the audience because normally you're on stage. It's really tough to see the audience's faces. And it was just good a lot of times. But I'm, I'm saying I was yesterday coffin. I was sitting, I looked and glanced over. And I saw this little fourth grade girl sitting front and center. And this little girl had the biggest smile on her face, like through the entire play watching it, which is, that's what I was
like, wow. Yeah, that's, you know, that's why you do this. It was just, she was just like, it's the most amazing thing she's ever seen. It was the look on her face. The whole time. Or every time I plan, Senator anyway, she could have had a huge frown the rest of the time, but just happened to smile when I looked. But federal went all three shows with different people each show. It got it got good reviews from everybody that went we had a good time. Good, good. Good. And then yeah, so
we, so I play the grandpa. And there's like, apparently a running gag around our entire county that I'm I'm old. Because I've gotten I have gotten to senior discounts without asking in the last couple of weeks. It hurts my feelings. But so yeah. Oh, okay. So we also had, I was standing in the hallway. And one of the other actors approached me and asked if I was the David, and you were the Leila, from Fun Fact, Friday.
And we were like, yeah.
Because I had mentioned to like the whole group one day, but she might not have been there that day. But her name is Michelle. And I have permission to say her name and you know, talk to her. And her husband, Derek, is also a Fun Fact. Friday fan. They've been listening for a long time. They
heard about us on no agenda. A lot of our listeners heard about us on no agenda is awesome, like meeting somebody in person that listens to our show, and has listened to our show right before before we told them about it or you know, or like we've been to Meetups before, where people knew who we were and whatnot. But we were going to a place specifically for podcast meet up situation. So we kind of expected folks to know who we were. But it was just really, it was odd to me. It was to have
somebody come up. Yeah. But yeah, hey, hey, Michelle. Hey, Derek. Derek is a app developer. And he has an app that he's got a new version of coming out in 2024. Called immersive whether there'll be a link in the show notes. I don't have it pulled up right now. I'm trying to find it very quickly while I'm stalling. And it is I m m wx.com. And it's, it's it's a weather app.
And it looks pretty neat. Looks like you can like cast it to your TV or your smart device like your your Google screen or your area.
I knew for a fact that at least two of the people in the cast. were sick. Yeah, we're performing. Yes. That's probably what got us sick.
So yeah, go ahead.
Sorry. The Oh, hold on.
Oh, no. Oh, no. Is it good?
Sorry. No, I had to clear my throat because I got too deep first, like we've been sneezing identities and my voice is raspy. Go ahead. The moment we were done with the show on the last day, I think was Sunday. And we got into the car, my throat started hurting. Which is just amazing. Because that tells me my body can suppress it. Yeah.
You're you're pushing it down because you knew the show had to go on. Yeah. So yeah. It was a super spreader event. A lot of people got sick. But we had a good time. And we we we will be involved in the theater in the future. And so yeah, it positive experience all around. Except for I was I was just I mean, we both. We both had some. We Yeah, but we both had parts where we were pretty much in the whole play. Yeah. So like, because
he was off in the alcove. And he had to come in like every yet.
Every act Yeah, that tells Elaine what was going on. And
I had to reset the set.
Right. So we had to go to all of the rehearsals whereas like the ghost of Christmas President we don't have to come to the ones where that character was going to be rehearsing. So we kind of, we had to go to all, which was fine. You know, we had a good time we met lots of nice people. So that is what we were doing last week. And then, like she said, we started feeling a little sick Monday. And then she pushed through again and went to school Tuesday and had her winter concert. I did yeah,
that was fun and
played some music. I squeaked only once. Yep, she was a squeaker on that one.
clarinets were worse, but we did amazing. In my opinion.
I think they did a pretty good job. Yeah. I like like a couple of songs.
So we knew Christmas. And How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
And you did one other one that we didn't know I had never heard before. December. December sky I'd never heard. So we have some correspondence from folks. Do you want to do that first? Or do you want to go ahead and hit our good news or good news? All right. Good. Morning. Welcome to Fun Fact Friday. Good news segment. We don't have a fancy jingle like, like no agenda. They stole our segment.
Make them make us a jingle because they stole it.
Right. So I have one and it's just a little short one. And some firefighters were out and about doing their firefighting stuff. And they spotted a a Ural owl lying motionless. And it was being attacked and picked on by a Murder of Crows. And firefighters ran over. And like rod scared off all the crows or the Cosby and bullies the crows were just being jerks to this owl. So the firefighters picked up the owl and wrapped it up and took it back to the station. And
they took it took it to the vet. They took care of it and and bundled it up and they rescued the owl from all the crows. Just a fun little fun little cute story from the good news. hub.com Yeah,
mine is there was this fossil that people thought was a plant for a long time. Right like from I think 1950s To now just got renamed. Okay, because they figured out was a baby turtle. Puzzle. Oh my gosh. And guess who they named it?
Leonardo? No, Michelangelo? No, Donatella? No, Raphael? Yes. No.
It's gonna keep making you guess. It's named Turtwig after the Pokemon character. That's half turtle. And happily.
Oh, yeah. That's cute. That's cute. Oh, so speaking of things. Oh, yeah. And this end, Fun Fact, Friday news. All right, I like to just slam the button down. So we were sitting there the other night. Just it's a fun little quick story. Before we get to thanking some folks. I said, there's gonna be a really short episode. We're not feeling good at all. So the we're sitting there. And I'm looking for stocking stuffers for Leila on the the big huge shopping site on the internet that most
people use. It's kind of become ubiquitous. So anyway, I'm on there. I'm just kicking around. I'm like, What is Leila interested in? What was a be a fun little three or $5 toy, you know? And I find it's a thing in it, and it clips onto your saxophone. And it's shaped like a mustache. So like when you're playing your saxophone. It looks like you've got a mustache. Yeah. And I put it in the cart. I'm about to order it. And I'm
started laughing and I show it to Phaedra. And she starts laughing and the Liberals are wheeled out about I enjoy a good joke. And
I was like, I feel left out. I feel
left out. I was like nope. I was like I'm buying you saw them for Christmas and you would never guess what it is ever in a million years.
And he was like you're gonna use it all the time. It's hilarious. And
you're gonna love it. You're gonna love it. You'll never if I give her I said the word hurt if I gave you 500 Guesses you'd never guess what you would die guess what it is? So I guess in the first try. First try. The first try. She got it right. I believe I got it. But then I lied to her and said no.
Yeah. And then told me like two days later, so it didn't even work. But I thought it was hilarious. Because one of my friends my best friend has one because he's a flute player. A flute and I think it's hilarious.
So Leila apparently has memory issues. Do you about what we talked about on this show?
I do I really do. Okay, so I have memory issues just regardless. But so when was the when was the time your key links up for anyone doing this? Yeah, when was the last time we did a random facts episode? Random
Facts episode was like three episodes ago. I will go to fun fact. friday.com I will click the episodes link which has an archive of all of our episodes 164 We are currently doing 167 So for
Thanksgiving, right, right by Thanksgiving. So my friend listen to this episode. And in class today. He was like his, you know, the word oxymorons and oxymoron and I was like, I think I did. I can't remember I learned that what did you learn from him? He was like, Fun Fact Friday, and I was like, oh,
and I was like, Oh, he
knew of it. I know. He listened to it. It just caught me off guard that he likes he. He cited my old words to me.
Always weird oxymoron quote Leila 2023
Wow, funny.
So yeah, short short term memory. Or maybe it's just because you're like in perform mode when you're on the show. And you drop out a vote and you forget everything you said we had since it's been two weeks we have quite a bit to go over housekeeping wise here. We had a boost from just
wait what does that kind of thing go the
booths? Yeah. I don't think we've ever had that on the road caster on the road caster we could put it on the caster grab it and put it on the road so bear Baroness Levin lights and 1000 Satoshis through fountain What do you do it? Well, I mean, I knew that but like, why? So 1000 SATs from Baroness Love and Light wishing lots of love and play and rest afterwards? We did. Well, you did when Leila took off her day. She took off a day at school because she was had a fever and
everything. Yeah. And I was like go in the living room. Get on the couch
if I see you doing anything's ever relaxing your ground
boot to the face that's what you boot to the face. I was like no and that's what she did all day. Yeah, it was amazing. Yeah, so she bundled up had her little nest we call it a nest when one of us was sick we go in the den and just like all of the blankets around us and
Yeah, mom makes the best nest when you're laying down so be like she'll come up and make you announced right without you knowing you'll be like what?
I think that's a mom thing thing moms are just naturally good at that. And then we went to burrito? Yeah. Oh, we have the burrito blankets too. Oh,
we do we have to tortilla blanket.
So we had 1000 so Oh, thank you Baroness Love and Light we'd definitely appreciate the we would the play was a great experience and the rest afterwards was a great experience. And from just listening just listening us Oh, okay. It's it adds a country now. Oh, that's Oh, Philip had had an update. So 1776 sets that is a freedom boost. And hey, it says hey, rant on exclamation point. I love it. Now. You know the story that follows is a little bit gross. It kind of
grossed me out the first time I read it. But I'm gonna read it anyway. Says my dad described walking into a Japanese restaurant and every everyone every person around you is slurping talking about the culture of slurping loudly fish I soup. That just just the idea of fish eye soup grosses me out, but let me continue. They sort of kick it up in their mouth with their chopsticks and a sort of egg beating motion scene. And
they slurp it up as they do. I just imagine all those fish eyes staring up at me while I slurped them up and then pop them like boba tea. Oh I love it thank you for grossed me out 1776 set from just
listening when I when I saw that boost without reading it and I just kind of skimmed it. Because that's what I do was literally everything I read. I was like what? Because everything looks so like, not related to each other.
chopstick egg beating
imagine fish.
Them Up boba tea gonna stop skipping words. And then we also got our two monthly sustaining donations, one from Dred Scott for 1912 $19.12. That is the Oreo. goosed many times mentioned and then also we got $10 from Steven Grimes, one of our longest supporters, those two donations right there, pay our hosting bills and all that for the website and the live which we will eventually get back to life. Things are just been kind of crazy for a couple months. And we're hoping to have
a lot more guests on in the new year. Do you have anything else that you wanted to change for the new year? Leila? Oh, before I do that, no, thank you so much for the donations the monthly sustaining support. Couldn't do it without ya. Yeah. So you can think of anything you'd like to change about the show? Oh, about the show. Yeah. Just like if like if we wanted to, like change the format up or if we wanted to start doing specials or? I know we've had more a lot of requests to do a silly
speculation Saturday. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, so we'll we'll talk about it. If y'all have any suggestions, shoot them over to mail FunFactFriday.com or hit us up on one of the socials. You know how to get a hold of us. If you're if you're a real fan.
So are you a real fan? We also scribe if you are Yeah,
like it subscribe. If
you're really the comment in the below.
You can't really like that we post I mean, I guess you could leave a review on a podcast app. But I mean, it doesn't like do anything. Unless we get here and we get to read it and wait, if it's a good good review. We like it. You know, it's cool. We definitely appreciate feedback. I was looking for an email
rating on this video.
Let's see. Oh, we gotta we gotta do this.
What do we got to do?
We got to make a bumper for the nose industry. Well, we'll talk about it later. Duct Lu, send us an email and talking about our episode with the most ran the episode with the butterfly. The last episode we did with a fly with a horse fly. Oh, that was That episode was yours, Orson Welles moment, the most exciting one yet. Do you know what that means? No. Okay. Orson Welles did a radio drama play. Back in the back in the olden days. It was called The War of the Worlds. Okay, but it
was presented as if it were a newscast. And it was about aliens coming in and taking over the planet and like blowing stuff up and you know, shooting people with lasers and stuff like that. But the story goes, I don't know how true this as the story goes, a bunch of people started freaking out because they thought it was real. And like started, like running down into their bunkers and getting all their, you know, shot guns to defend themselves against the aliens and like people started
freaking out. I don't know how true that is. But that's the story that that I've heard. I've also heard people say that none of that happened. Everybody knows radio show. So you know, if that's the what Orson Welles moment means it was like it was exciting. And you're like, you're stuck to the radio listening to it. You had to know what was gonna happen. Yeah, with us with us pausing the recording to try and catch the fly. Yeah, that lizard is just hanging out. I gotta get. I'll
put some pictures in the chapters. I don't have the heart to put them outside because it's so cold. I know. We should make them a little cage. Then we also got tipped off to a thread on Mastodon,
a master thread. Yes.
And it's Lucas l you CC us at Kaos social and our buddy Berlin gave us this tip a tip off says I hope Fun Fact Friday reached this thread. And it says it has a bunch of different like things that make sense better if you're talking about the metric system versus the imperial system. And I just I don't know if I want to read it, too I read it
one liter of four degrees Celsius water weighs one kilogram, one kilogram of anything is 1000 grams, one gram of water is one centimeter cubed a stack stack 1001 centimeter cubed blocks to get a 10 millimeter high column 10 meter 10 meter high column. This column exerts 10 kg pa of pressure on its base
I think that's a Pascal I can be wrong, which is a unit of pressure. If I'm not mistaken, to
heat it by one degree Celsius requires one kilo calorie one kg cow one kg cow
1000 calories or yeah one kg one kg cow one calorie? Yeah, yeah, sorry.
And one n would accelerate it by one meter per every second. Yeah. One meter per second every second and
as a as a as a Newton. Yeah, acceleration you have to say meter per second. Can per second? Because it's gaining a meter every second, every second every second. Does that make sense? Because you're telling me because you're giving two measurements of like how fast it's going and how fast accelerating? Yeah, when something's accelerating, you have to give per second per second.
I had to think how many inches are in seven feet? Or I had to Google? How many inches are in seven feet? I think that's stupid. Dear Americans, I require seven feet in fathoms.
Why? Why do you need to know how many inches are in seven feet? Maybe he was looking it up when when you need like, let's say, Okay, so let's say you're built, you're building something like you're building a bookshelf seven. Okay,
maybe he was seven feet tall. And he was trying to make a cardboard cutout of himself. But he only had one inch by one inch pieces of cardboard. And he wanted to get like a scale building. I mean, it's like, I gotta, I gotta I only have one inch by one inch pieces of cardboard. I mean, but I needed to make a seven foot
high just to seven times 12. It would be it'd be quicker to pull up in the calculator and do seven times 12 If you can't just do it in your head. Again, I say there are two types of countries in this world. Those that use the metric system and those that landed on the moon. That's
a crappy answer. I hate that those are very unreliable.
I know that's a it's a gag. It's a joke. It's a punch lie. Don't get up so you can settle this argument once and for all by going to store it on FunFactFriday.com My glasses touched my wins.
It's like saying there's there's two types of people in this world. People that like computers, when people that are dead, like
go to the court correlation versus causation. Yes.
Oh my gosh, we're living in math class right now. And I don't ever want to hear those two words.
They're 10 people. There are 10 types of people on this planet. Those that understand binary and those that do not. What do you there are 10 types of people on this planet? Those that understand binary and those that do not?
Is tend to in binary? Yes.
Anywho I think I may have reached my limit.
Leila as you can see, my voice has reached his limit. Can you hear it?
I can hear it. Goodness. Sounds like you've been you've been eatin like rusty nails or something. But yeah, we will be back for our Christmas episode. We will be opening a gift to one another, as we have done have worked with ah, do you have to go buy me another gift? Yeah. Buy me a show gift. It's a show gift so we can write it off on the taxes. Now it didn't work like that. Oh, we also got a message from Comrade Christopher battles. And I believe that he is indicating that he wants us
to do a minimum wage episode and a y2k episode. Watch a case. Why 2k So yeah, next week will be Christmas. We'll have some fun facts about Christmas and traditions and whatnot. Everybody y'all have a fantastic week. And get all those last minute gifts in we'll get some good stocking stuffers for folks you love give everybody give everybody a Merry Christmas from us. Give people high fives they know who we are. I mean, yeah, if you were just like Merry Christmas from Leila David.
They'll be like what? And be sure and go get something from the store it stored off FunFactFriday.com That says team imperial system on it. No.
Because metric system we were better are. I'm better. Excellent.
Imperial system is currently winning 10 items. And the metric system currently has no no. Five items. Sorry, beat me.
Sure I can. So yeah, we're winning. Anyways. Okay. It's my bye guys now. Yeah.
Okay, thank you. You're welcome. That weirds me out. Everyone. Have a great weekend. Great week. We'll see y'all next week. Hopefully, we'll be feeling a lot better.
Oh, yeah. I'm already feeling better. It's just my voice. Right. So weird.
And I think I think we covered everything that came in came in in this two weeks. Yeah, go go bookmark. The immersive weather app. A new version is coming out in 2024. And it looks neat. So bye, everybody. Bye. Oh, push. Don't push the wrong button.
Yay. Accidentally paused before we did the outro is cake No, no.
