Ladies and Gents Welcome to the entire circus me Logan Fun Fact Friday we are weekly podcast where we talk about different topics each week. I'm Leila. I'm Deniz David. Yep. And we are together. Fun Fact Friday we will do. We are, we are Fun Fact, Friday folk, we try. We try anyway, we try and have fun. When we do record on Thursdays most weeks depending on schedules. We're gonna rework our schedule because she is done with school
soon for the year, and we'll have a whole different. And now that we got the studio, we can just use sit down and record anytime without any setup or anything like that. It's all ready to go. We just sit down and go. So, welcome to Fun Fact Friday. If you have any facts for us, or any corrections for us, mail FunFactFriday.com The best way to get ahold of us. We're going to start off the show with a little bit of sad
news. Our dog chewy, who we've had for about 15 years. He he finally he finally left us. Yeah, he was hurtin so we, we took him to the vet, and he's not with us anymore, so but he's not in any pain anymore, either. So and that's enough of the sad stuff. So let's hop over to good Oh, no. I got a bunch of stuff in my pocket. I get stuff in your pocket because i Jingle the home every time I walk in and you try to find some your pocket and it just sounds like Sorry, let me
go keys is that your new fully? You gotta keep it back at Tech tax around for every episode, so you can make fun of me with my stuff in my pockets. And your stupid beard scratching with the thing that's gonna come through working on it either. I didn't hear it. So yeah, we are going to be talking about circuses. Yeah, I tried to do a you know, kind of going along with our clowns episode. Oh, yeah. Clowns episode was a million years ago feels you know,
right along. Because it was a long time ago. For us. Least everything. Time Time has been weird since around March of 2020. For some reason, time has been just Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing as I used to 2022. And I was like, Man, that was 2020 is is when time just started flowing differently depending on what was happening. Yeah, it feels like February of 2021 right now. Like, to me, it is February of 2021. It feels like the longest three years and the shortest three
years. Time. But yeah, we're gonna be talking about circuses. And before we do that, we're going to talk about some listener stuff. We we are a value for value podcast. And that means you can send us value in the form of questions, facts that you send in corrections, art, t shirt, ideas, episode ideas, anything you want to send us or you know, financial support, however you want to do it. We received an email and I don't think I've ever gotten re I think I've ever gotten a
pronunciation guide. So I'm gonna say duck, sent the send us an email. And it has a voice submission. And I'm assuming you want to play it on the air. But here we go. Mine store made us and Punky Brewster. The consider the name game to be a tongue twister. So we did our episode on tongue twisters last last week or a couple of weeks ago yet last week. I don't consider the name game to be a tongue twister. It's just a fun, verbal exercise that can kind of kind of be really
funny depending on what names you put into it. So like the Leila Leila, David, so you went with David and I went with Leila right off the bat. So what's the name game? It's when you go when you say a name. And then you go Bo name and then you go. Fo so in your mouth. Then you go the name again. It's so my name. David. David David Bucha David banana fanna for faze me my mommy bud.
David. Yeah. And yeah, that's what That's something I don't really consider that tongue twister because it doesn't have those syllables that get mixed up and cause you to have trouble saying them. It's more of a rhyming thing. Yeah. was more of a fitting the name into the right. And so, but we definitely appreciate the email, especially in audio submission. It gives us something to play video submissions pretty soon, hopefully, fingers got a new
webcam and it looks pretty good. So we got to gonna have to get that going. And we got a Pay Pal. Donation. One second, I accidentally closed my email. How'd you do that? And professional podcaster. That's how I did that. No, I have not authorised a payment. That's not what I want. Come on, Phil. Phil, Phil. Phil time. Oh, crap. Hi. I have a podcast. Oh, okay. So the donation we received was $5. From Garnet is good as one of our $5. Sustaining donations on from
PayPal, you can any support? Yes. sustaining support. Hey, sorry, it's a lot of SS there. You can go to Fun Fact friday.com and click donate button. And there's a couple of options there for crypto and Pay Pal and whatnot. So we definitely appreciate the monthlies. They're fantastic. They keep our servers up and running. Yeah, thank you very much. Thank you so much. And we received 500 I think it was 500 500 SATs Satoshis tiny bits of Bitcoin and the notification
things in the way. Yes. 500 sat from Baroness love and light one of our cereal boosters from the Waffle House episode, listening to it yesterday she sent I'm sewing and while I listen. Because we mentioned sewing because Leila has been doing a lot of sewing and getting her cosplay ready for her. SUNY Miku cut Sunni hat Sunni hot cat Sunni kit Sunni. No, that's an Overwatch. Yeah. So I get all this stuff mixed up. So that's our support is fantastic. We definitely appreciate everybody out there.
And now a very perfect segue apparently. To our good news. Welcome. This is loud Fun Fact. Friday news. With your leading Leila me, Robert, it's about animals. Well, you know what? You just need to mind your own business. Because yes. So I'm on insider.com and this animal shelter let's see what am Canadian okay. It's a Canadian animal shelter. And they their cameras broke. So guess what they did? What did they do? They drew them. They drew the little the little peppers and
little bunnies and the cats and everything. And good. Well, I was just gonna ask a question, but you were. So there was a two year old pug mix and her name was Addison. And there's this cute little drawing of her she has little skinny legs and accurate drawings. Are they just like toonie they're cartoony? The espresso one of the bunny is really good. But yeah, just check the link in the show notes and go check out these drawings of these animals. So yeah, they just were like, We
got to put these pictures on the website. Yeah, what are we gonna do? Hey, Sally, you're pretty good at drawn animals, right? Sure. So it's really cute. I saw it the other day and I was like, I don't have to cover this. Yeah, that's a that's a cute I tried to get a better source for this one. But there was a tweet that went out. 83 year old Joyce Nope. John Joyce makes a living by mowing lawns. But when his 20 year old truck died, he had no choice but to push his lawn
mower for miles to serve his customers. One of his customers started fundraising campaign to help him and they were able to raise enough money to buy him a new car. The remaining money was used to buy him a new lawnmower and to pay for the insurance. That's fantastic. When I went a whole community pulled All together and and help somebody out what do you think about that one? Cool. So wraps up the news. Yeah, good segue again. I'm not segway Sam. Okay, I am segway Sam segway
Sam used to be a character on the Conan O'Brien show. When they would move from segment to segment, he would like wear a top hat in a tuxedo and he had a cane and he would like dance across the stage that guy and do a Segway dance. There is a dude with a sticker on the back of his truck and said S S S S. Now I can think that it says a sassy southern segue Sam. So So is it like a truck club. Or maybe we have those here we have like, truck and car clubs, where like, I guess they just go
hang out and talk about cars. I don't know what they do. And they put like big stickers on the back of their, on the back of their windows like takes up the whole back of the window of whatever their club name is. But like, I would think that they would have like other alterations like they're trying to make custom, you know, make their cars look cool and whatnot, but really see see that. So it is what it is, I guess. And then there's this thing where in here in North
Carolina, they actually had to pass a law about this. They raise up the front of their trucks like that. And that's it like that, and then lower down the back of the truck. So it like what the problem is, is they're doing it to such and such an extreme that the driver was can't really see over the hood, because the car is at such an angle that they can't really
see over the hood. So it makes it unsafe. So they had to pass a law that your car has to be within X amount of degrees of level or you'll get a ticket you're looking at me with a very like this is stupid faces stupid. Why would you do this your car bro. It doesn't look cool. That's what people do. coolest guy ever. Yeah. Some people want to we gotta we're live right now. We do live on Thursday night, some Thursday night around seven Eastern at
FunFactFriday.com. Or you can use some of the new modern modern podcast apps to live also got in the chat IceCube soup. Sometimes they want to restore the cars to be as original and dorky as possible. Yeah, I have seen that. I know. There was a there's a Corvette club around here that really values taking the older Corvettes and getting them like as original as possible that you know you can't get it perfect back to original because sometimes you can't get a hold of the original parts.
Yeah. But they did pretty good. One of those one of those Corvette club guys, Leila, he bought his Corvette brand new. And he parked it in his air conditioned and heated garage. And he cracked all the doors. So like the rubber gaskets around the doors wouldn't get too compressed and wear out. And like he just like babied this car. So it's in like, perfect conditioning never drives anywhere except to the Corvette car clubs. Meetings. Wow. And I'm like, wow, so it's like, I
guess maybe as an investment or he just loves it, you know? But uh, it's crazy to me how people can have like such expensive cars. There was a story about a guy who bought a $3 million car and had to have it like helicopter lifted up to his to his apartment, to sit in his living room. And never never drive it. He just wants to look at it in his living room. So he's got this $3 million car sitting in his living room on like, the 70th floor of the building. Wow. That's smart.
I might have seen that on daily dose of internet. We were talking about daily dose of internet before the show started. Sure why how were you so okay. Okay, so we're 75 minutes into this episode, and we're gonna go ahead and start talking about our topic. Oh my gosh, yeah. Like we're like an hour into the episode. We started this episode three years ago, we're finally getting to our topic. So what do you know about circuses?
I know they're, they're clowny they're there. My point I don't know what I'm planning. Well, speaking of that. While you're speaking of that, I have a whole segment about circus music. Did you know that there is a song called Barnum and Bailey's favourite. Really? The song is called Barnum and Bailey's favourite it is by Karl King and And I will play a segment of it. Okay sorry about that it's fun. It's snappy. I can see some animals walking you do and Irish jig to this
and it's the same tempo that I left. Alright, so that is Barnum and Bailey's favourite. But that's not really what you think about when you think about circus music. Right? Yeah. So why don't I think about what do you think about? I think about this specific song. Okay, I know what you're I know what you're thinking. Yeah, you're thinking entrance of the gladiators, aren't you? I see. Or could also be known as thunder and blazes by Julius
fsiq. I've got a link to the song is this I love that song. So when I was about three years older than you, maybe two years older than you, I had some friends come over to hang out for the weekend. And we were making we had a, we had a video camera. And we were recording like little comedy skits. We, we didn't have editing software, there's no such thing as I mean, I maybe the movie companies had it. But we had to do all of our
editing as we recorded. So if we wanted music play over a scene, we had, like get a tape recorder and like play it behind the tape, you know, but a part of the skit was that song. Like the camera panned over to me is like, I wonder what metus is thinking about in the camera would pan over to me. And that song was playing. And then it stopped and I like came to my senses. You know? Just I you know that's what's going on in my head at all times. And I agree with that
that song right there when you think circus music to me. That's what popular that's the song that is the circus music song. Oh, no. Oh, no. What did you lost my entire desktop. Hi, your desktop. But that is the traditional. It's one of the most famous if not the most famous circus music played for 100 years. By check, compose made by Czech composer Julius physique in 1897. Wow, when it came out, it was called a grand March chromatique. He later changed the title based on his
interest in the Roman Empire. So Canadian composer, Luis Felipe, learn, learn do their own due rearrange the entrance for a small band and started selling it across North Carolina or across North America. Brain specific became popular as the Screamer March, which is just a it's a variation of that. And then there was the Barnum and Bailey's favourite by Karl king. And there's a few other you know, circus songs and I kind of listened to them and they're, they're all right. They're kind
of like that same. Same tempo, lots of you know, tutus to type stuff. But they want to, they want to get you in a good mood when you're at the circus. You know, they want to get you in that wonderous. You know, this is fast paced. This is fun. Music for more contemporary circuses is office rent office office, often written exclusively for presented shows,
and most contemporary circuses don't use commercial music. Some of the more modern circuses will actually use like rap punk music and are getting away from the the traditional circus music. Sad. So there you go. There you go. I know like Cirque du Soleil has custom people write their stuff because it has to match the story, you know? Yeah, of course.
Oh, so. Barnum and Bailey Circus. The Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Circus, also known as the Ringling Bros, circus, Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Circus, Barnum and Bailey or simply Ringling is an American travelling circus company, billed as the greatest show on earth at it and its predecessor shows ran from 1871 to two Isn't 17 known as the Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey, the circus started in 1919 when the Barnum Bailey's Greatest Show on Earth, a circus
created by PT Barnum and Jane's Anthony Bailey, was your new Bailey was somewhere in there it was just to get to it
was merged with the Ringling Bros. World's Greatest shows the Ringling Brothers, which had purchased Barnum and Bailey Ltd, falling Bailey's death in 1906, but ran the circuses separately until they were merged in 1919. After 1957, the circus no longer exhibited under its own portable, Big Top tents, and said using permanent venues such as sports stadiums and arenas, in 1967 Irvin field and its and his brother Israel, along with Houston, Judge Roy Hoffenheim Hofheinz bought the circus with
thrilling family and in 1971, the Fildes and Halfhill Hofheinz dude has a weird name, sold the circus to Mattel buying it back from the toy company in 1981. Since the death of Irvin field in 1984. The circus has been a part of the Feld Entertainment, an international entertainment film, headed by son, Kenneth Feld with its headquarters in Alton. Ellington floor Ford was weakening attendance, many animal rights protests and high operating costs. The circus performance final show on May 21
2017. at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and closed after 146 years. Yep, the animal rights protest was a big part of what was shut down the circuses. I'm almost done. I'm so sorry. You know, I have to interrupt on May 18 2022. After a five year hiatus, Feld Entertainment announced that the circus would resume touring the fall of 2023.
But without the animals like There's No Business Like Show Business No Business Like Show Business. And they need robot animals that would be absolutely awesome. It's gonna be so great once we get the cameras back up and running for the show because the face Leila just made. I make the font. So faces we haven't been to the circus in forever. Probably about two or three or three. You're very I can't remember being a circus.
But we she wrote she wrote an elephant. Wow. She was like this tiny little baby and she wrote her like this big huge elephant and the elephant was just like, we're just walking like elephants do and then and then we went in and watch people do stuff, you know, like they do at the circuses. My favourite is always the tight rope. And the one we went to, it wasn't Barnum and Bailey wasn't one of the big name ones it was, you know, some other circus. Like the tight rope guy was amazing. He was
doing backflips and all kinds of stuff. Oh, wow. And he would do that thing. Like he was like pretending like he was gonna fall. Everybody's like, oh, you know? So I went to a circus. Last two, two years, two years ago. How old are you? How old am I? So it was last year? Wait, wait, hold on. I wasn't paying attention to what you said. What did you say? Are you I am I am 40 something 41 or 44 Do you want okay, so it was last year? It was last year because we were in Vegas
last year. Yeah, went to circus Olay Cirque du Soleil Sir Sir desolate Cirque du Soleil circus. Circus circus Olay Sir Sir de Sala Sir Sir Okay. Yes sir just slowly what happened my gosh. Explaining so much. I am about to you like the people that Bojangles what? When you're like, I want a cage like this. Oh, yeah. What's it What was it? Like? I just what drink do you want but I went to a show called Oh, just a letter. Oh, and it was amazing. It was it was a big pool and a whole bunch of people.
That's the water one, the water one it was is really cool we've seen QA but I haven't ever seen very appealing, right? Am I a little eyeballs, but I want to go see QA? Yes. If we go if we go back to Vegas and cause to play, which honestly, I wouldn't be. So what are you talking about? But yes, but what happened? There was a technical issue in the last like 10 minutes of it before right before they were about to do their bows. Yeah,
that kind of stunk. There was some Perrier Peridot clowns, and I was like, Oh my gosh, I have to remind me of what that means. They're the ones with the big white fluffy ripplenet Yeah, like puddles pity party. Yeah. Gotcha. There were so cute. They just ran across the stage a few times. Hey, Dreb Scott into chat. Oh my gosh. Dreb Dreb Oh my gosh, read chapter yellow world and killing it on the chapters lately. If you're listening to podcasting 2.0 app. Checkout dribs chapters. He does a great
job. Perry Aereo. We have a we have a mispronunciation party going on in the in the what do we have? We have? Circus Olay circus LA and then p arrow. Circus Olay sponsored by Ole we are not sponsored by anybody. Except for you. I mean, I thought that circus Olay was the way you said it. Yeah, I did too. For longest time and then I saw it written, sir. I know that I spell it weird, but I was always just like circus Olay. Well, if you look at how it's written, it's Cirque de Soleil.
Kyer Q. Soul. It starts with a C sir. Sir CIR. Qu E. Kirk So lay, so yeah, we got Dreb saying yellow world. Hello World. On the keyboard the Y is directly above the age. Okay, six Kirk, do so Soliel Kirk du Soliel There you go. That's my pronunciation of it. Hold on a second. And that's where I take effect. We got a whole thing happening here in the chat. Oh my gosh, what's happening okay. Oh, what w a Cirque de Soleil input interpretation circ English word
definition Noun. A steep walled, semicircular basin and a mountain may contain a lake creation Cirque du du hast du hast mesh All right, if you do not listen live when you see us go live on a Thursday night. You gotta join the chat fun. We have a good time. We have a good we have an okay time. Speaking of okay, times have you ever seen or heard about a flea
circus? I've heard about them. So a flea circus. Not much, though, is an interesting, interesting little thing, because it started as one thing but it became something else, which as most things do, I guess. But it's a miniature circus where the performers are fleas. The first recorded performance of fleas was in 1578. When Mark scaly out a watchmaker, made a tiny golden chain along with a tiny lock. The lock and chain were so small and light that a fleet could
pull them. So you have to imagine how small Oh, you ever seen a flea? Like see how big there. Yeah, a tiny. Another record says that in 1742, Mr. Boeve, Rick, a watchmaker of the strand, made a small Roach made of gold with all the details and harnessed fleas to pull the coach. Now, this moved along, moved along, moved along. And they came up with new ways to
make the fleas perform. And what they would do and this is kind of mean is the glue the feet fleas to like a little plate and then glue little, little fake instruments onto them and have them play as the flea band. But they would warm up the plate and the fleas would try and jump off of it but they couldn't because they were glued on there. So they would just like wiggle so it looked like they were playing the instruments. Horrifying. Yeah, but they don't do that anymore. Now now All a flea
circus is all fake. Good. So they have like, little fake trapeze that's controlled by, you know, magnets or mechanical. And it looks you know, if you're, oh, I could see the fleas and there's no place there. It's all mechanical. But it's still really cool to watch because, you know, it's just cool little mechanical stuff. But I thought it was interesting. I thought I always thought it was always mechanical. I didn't know that they actually used fleas and flea circus at some point in history. So
cool. While you're talking, why am I not talking? Yeah, you just got to stop because I'm dying. That's That's what all there is to talk about with a Segway Sam Oh, nope. Don't sue us Coco. Team Coco do team Coco is Teen Titans. Team Coco. That's Conan O'Brien's little like his little company he made Kirk do solely solely L so Is that all you have on circuses? No, I have way more. Yeah, no, go ahead. I just had music and then the fleece circuses.
So how many balls do you think it's the most balls being juggled? 777 down? Well, I've personally seen somebody somebody juggle like nine or 10 objects, like in person, like at a school, a school assembly or something. The record. According to this is held by Alex Barron for completing 25 cascades of 11 Juggling balls that weren't so apparently a lot of drab by drop. The keys that work stuff to do. So 1111 I think I feel like I've seen more than 11
I feel like elevens are kind of like rookie numbers. So let's come on low. Yeah. So numbers up Alex. So they I'm gonna I'm gonna look this up while while you're talking my friend another good. I'm going to mute myself. So the curtain separating the ring from the backstage of the circus is called the Vorgang. V, O, R, G and G. Okay. German and translates to English currents. occurrence. occurrence. We just got alive boost. I think we've only got a couple of live
boosts ever. And it's from Dreb Scott who just loves you boosting for the fun facts. You want to know how many? How many? Satoshis how many? Satoshis 101,010 Satoshis? I don't have I don't have my air horn. Where's my air? Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. Oh my gosh. I turn into air horn. I took their horn off of the button because I did again do it again. The baller belly boost. That's fantastic. Thank you Dreb We appreciate appreciate that.
If you don't know what that is. Modern podcast apps have the ability to send Bitcoin payments micro payments to your favourite podcaster if they're set up, and they're able to receive, you can send messages along with what's called Satoshis which is the smallest bit of Bitcoin that you can send. And that was not a small bit. That was a big bit of Bitcoin. Yeah, it was a big bit
of it. And that along with a lot of the other Satoshis that we've received recently, do you want to tell them what we're getting to tell them what we're getting for the studio? Yeah, well tell them we're getting we got here a week. We got a 3d printer. A big one a big one. And I'm so happy that I'm gonna start making money. I had a 3d printer at one point and it was just a small little just getting started, you know, learn how to do it thing and it
had a terrible resolution. It was not a good 3d printer. This one was on sale. Yeah, a really good sale. And it's got an 11.8 inch by 11.8 inch bed. I think it can go up to 14 inches high. Wow. So we can we can print some pretty big stuff. And we're pretty excited about it. We're probably going to start printing custom custom named stuff and maybe we'll print out some stuff for our supporters. Little little trophies like I don't know what to figure stuff out. If you got any suggestions, let
us know what what cool stuff we can print. I'm going to be printing a bunch of custom things to put my electronics in. Because I always like I want my phone standing up. But like, all of the stands that I find are always just like, slightly too small for the case that I use. Or that like, they don't have a slot to put the power cable anyway, I'm just, I'm rambling. Yeah. How about circuses? Oh, let me back. Oh. So I don't know what the studio is great for Lilo's posture. Oh
my gosh. She's sitting we she sits in a blue. Let's kind of like just a chair lounge. lounge chair, but it doesn't like recline or anything. She just likes thrown all across it. I have my back on one of the on one arms and my knees. Over one of the arms in the couch next to me. My feet are in the couch next to me. And my head is on the wall. Who is that? I don't know what that was? There's a very, very loud noise outside. All right, anyways, anywho Anywho. Let's see. Let's see.
Let's see. Is that it? Are you done? Sure. This episode, no. segways. Background music so yeah. I like circuses. I'm glad to hear that that one is coming back. That it's the animals. You know what, knowing that they weren't. They weren't treated the best. I'm glad that the animals aren't going to be back. Me too. But if if they're treating the animals right, I love seeing the animals but I guess that's what like a zoological park is for we have a zoological park for animals,
right? Yeah, they have built massive enclosures for them. So they get to roam around and they're with other animals in the same enclosure that are you know, they are cool with each other. Like, you know, you get the gazelles and the I don't know, whatever. giraffes and zebras are all the same thing. They can be the same area. Yeah, because they're not gonna attack each other or anything. But yeah, that yeah, treat the animals good. I love I love seeing lots of different
animals. Speaking of animals, we had something happen. And my wife Phaedra and my daughter, Leila. Scared me. Weapon. I had to pick up the couch. Because the cat the cat was wanting to get under the couch. We just held it. Yeah. So you think there's a bug, right? Like a robot or something? Because she is on it that a cat is on it when there's a bug. So I lift up my couch. And he goes, go, Oh, my God. You dropped the couch, you know?
I drop it because I don't know what it is. I don't know if there's a you know, big old snake about to bite me or both of them just ah, oh my god, there is a mouse under the couch. There is a mouse under the couch is kept saying this kept saying there's a mouse on the couch. Anyway, there was we caught the mouse. He didn't believe me. When I said I got the mouse. I didn't because the way it looks to me. I was like, I was
going behind the furniture. And I was trying to like shoo him out with his little piece of wood that I just was like kind of swinging it towards him to get him to run. And the angle that I was at. I couldn't tell if he went into the shoe box or past it. So I was like, I'm not sure if you have it. Let's not lift it up. And look, let's you know, don't take the whole box outside. And well. It was it was in there. So we let him went out of the back of the property and let him go. It was a cool guy.
It was a very cute little brown cat mouse. So that was our fun mouse adventure. Leila wants to get a rat. No Well, or a road into some sort. But we're thinking about thinking about like, after the summer, having a nice summer of only having the cat as a pet. So all right, what else you got? Any more interesting facts? Nope. Nope. All right, folks, we're we're gonna wrap it up for this week. I hope you had fun. If you're listening live, we will have a little bit. Okay, now, I have one more fact.
You have one more fact? What? Sorry. Did you know that human cannon balls travelled between 60 and 70 miles per hour when they're shot? Yeah. Did you know you travel between 60 and 70 miles per hour when we're on the highway? Yeah, but it's like driving on highway without a windshield. Or like on a motorcycle. Yeah, the roller coaster the helmet some of the roller coasters you went on went faster than that. Cool. What's wrong? What are you looking at the wall for? There
was a shadow side the windows are a spooky ghost. Yeah. Scary. It might have been the owl or something. Do you think that was just on our window? Yeah, the owl hangs out around the shed. All right. All right. Well, we don't get attacked by it when I walk out if you're listening live Stay tuned. We're gonna hang out after the show while we're doing all of our post show wrap up stuff. If you're not listening live join us again next week on Fun Fact Friday to where when? Why'd
