Hello, hello. Are you mocking my voice? No. Hello. Hello and welcome to Fun Fact Friday? Nope with Leila and David. This is Medus pod now. Oh yeah. We're a weekly podcast where we talk about fun topics and facts. Yes, yes. We are tired. Very we can't hear it already. Okay. We're not tired anymore. We took a nap. All right, so we are no longer tired. Yep. And now we we worked on the studio today putting up drywall. And it's it's a task,

you know. And very it's kind of a it's a small room. So having these big sheets of drywall and moving them around and like marking them door you got to cut them for the receptacles and it's a whole it's it's a tiring process. And it was hot. Yeah, it was very hot in there because we have haven't go in and out. And so the air conditioner wasn't really doing a lot. Yeah, I wasn't doing great. And then this is take two for this episode because we messed

up the first one. We started over Yeah, but uh, no need to go into what what was wrong with it? No, no worries. We're just we started over sometimes you just got to start over. And yeah, so here we go. This episode is about cars play cars. But one of the things that you stepped on your life the people at Starbucks would you liking whipped cream when that is like no, I was just about to say no.

I don't want whipped cream on my oat milk frappuccino. Oh. Hi, I'd like to get a Cajun Would you like a side order with that? Yeah, I was just just about to say combo. But you interrupted me so so I'm gonna go somewhere else. Yeah. I don't ever go anywhere else. I love that thing. Yeah, no response. Yeah, so cosplay. And we have we did actually stop and get some good news this week. We did we kind of dropped last week. She loves the dog ones. chocolates are fun as dogs are fun, fun Friday.

They are fun. So do you want to talk about some good news? Or do you want to jump into donations real quick? She keeps about the exact same. We think way too much alike. I'm just quicker on the draw. Well, Dad, yeah. Would you like to show who is supporting us? Yeah. Since we are a value for value podcast, if you find value in our production, it's going to consider returning some value we received via booster grams, which is tiny little bits of

Bitcoin sent to your podcast and your modern podcast player. We received 1726 cents from Kevin Hallisey. From fountain. Hallelujah. Good. Good to hear you too. Again. I've been re listening to old episodes missing you both. We also received 10,000 sets from servo using pod verse.fm servo servo. Welcome back. What I just realized the servo is like an actual thing the other day, and not just his name. We were looking at the Arduino kit that we have. And I was like, oh,

yeah, we could get the servo. And we could get it. We're talking Wait, wait. Servo in chat. Wait, really? I liked it that. We were also talking recently. So it was a real nerd. We got a clip that I called the no hook limit. So on. Recently, we were talking about how certain news channels have certain agendas. Yeah. And I was like, and that's why I like to listen to you know, John and Adam over and Leila's face just lit up. Oh, my gosh, it's because they have no agenda.

You've been listening to no agenda for longer than I've been alive. That's correct. So I never really thought I stopped and thought about it because I was like, no agenda. Yeah, it's just a show. It's just the name. It's just the name of the thing. It's called no agenda because there's no agenda. That's, that's pretty cool. I was like, Oh my gosh. So that's pretty smart. Servo says excited for live shows again. Leila Yes, we will

starting the live shows. Soon enough. The problem. Like I said, we said last week the problem is We have a lot of things scheduled throughout the week on different days like her rehearsals for her play. She's not sure which night is for the dancers and which nights for the actors. So it changes up on what nights, we'll be able to do live shows. So we're transfers are like, we need two nights. Yeah, we got to nail it down. We gotta get the acting down, right. But we will

go live again at FunFactFriday.com. And you'll be able to listen, live and chat with us on IRC, and we're looking into some other chat options also. Yeah, Leila, if you thought knowing the perimeter, perimeter of a circle was useless wait until calculus where you get forced to learn how it was derived and proved. Let me approach infinite uselessness. She looked into calculus, we were recording for the first time. I was just so bored by it. I looked it up. I read it. And I

just like didn't read it in my mind. So I don't know. I couldn't even tell you what calculus is now. Everything in calculus is super exciting. And wonderful. Oh, yeah, it was amazing learning the velocity of when you come to a stop at red light? Like why do you need to know the velocity in your car when it comes to a stop at red light. It's why there are uses for these sorts of things in the higher sciences like rocketry. I'm never going to be a rocket

sigh understand that. But it's, it's good stuff to learn. If you ever want to be an engineer, go to engineers. 100. I'll be 100% with you. They've got programs that can can do it all for you now. So it's kind of like you're never gonna have a calculator in your pocket all the time. I beg to differ. My third grade math teacher I beg to differ. is good to learn the basics though. Learn to do it on paper. He wants to let me ask let me ask the chat GPT your child's you petite and tell them to prove

it. So we also received we've got our one of our biggest our actually our biggest donor of all time to read Dred Scott. Scott, we're gonna we're gonna make. So there's this line in this movie called Blazing Saddles, not for kids, where they, where they sing, they're like you do it for Randolph Scott, because he was like, you know, cowboy guy back in the old days. And they're like Randolph Scott and every time something every time Dred Scott comes

what did you break something on the ground? I don't know. It doesn't matter. We've got to get an orchid or choir to do that with Dred Scott. Why don't we Why don't we? Let's let's coordinate and do it and then I'll put it into like one of our one of our plugins for Reaper and see if I can get it to. to sound like a choir. Okay, ready? 321. Scott, or if any of you musical people out there can take that little clip and do it now. Fantastic. Yes, for the

Oreo monthly donation of $19.12. Fantastic. And then Steven Grimes with his $10 monthly sustaining donation. I liked a little a little little nugget. Yeah, the Oreo donation or your donation that's such a fun little thing. What were we talking about Oreos earlier today? Cookies and cream ice cream cookies and cream ice cream? I doubt it. I don't know. I was talking to Oreos best. They're just so

good. They are fried Oreos and how they're how the restaurant is trashed and making them they did not make them very my cousin's friend made the best Oreos fried Oreos. He called them Sugar Babies. Sugar Babies best thing anywho so that is it for our support section. Okay. Doo doo doo, doo doo doo you. Welcome to Fun Fact Friday news with your co anchors. Leila and David. I'm the lead. Excuse you lead anchor Leila from the audience and my co host Dave, no. No. All right.

What do you got for us with the Dow Okay, dogs. So there's this dog named Bailey. She got Can you turn it down a bit. overpowering? So there is this dog Bailey. And she's a rescue dog. She found herself and lost in her neighborhood. And she she went to the animal rescue plays and rang the doorbell so just see went to the doorbell and she made it. So did she like just smell it She thought that there was a party that she wasn't invited to. And she was gonna storm in and wreck the party because she

wasn't invited. I thought that was a funny little fun little. Yeah, it's she was 10 miles away from her house. So she went she went walkabout adventure walk about, as they say not to venture down and turn Australia. No offense to our Australian viewers. I'm very sorry. I'm just saying he does not do a good Australian accent. I beg to differ, ma'am. Oh, I have done Australian accents on

a couple of my episodes and got really good. British. I'm not doing I'm not doing I'm not doing voices tonight on the show for extended periods of time. Okay. I can be hired to do them. By cash happy to book my good news story is about math. Because I know you love math. Oh my gosh. So there is a new 13 sided shape called the hat. Now, no, I've looked at the shape. And this does not look like a hat. I know it looks like a little t shirt with a little think about

it. A little picture of this is from the good news network.org The miracle that disrupts order mathematicians invent new Einstein shape. link in the show notes. The question was, is there a shaping that could interlock with itself? Ad infinitum. Infinity and forever? With without replicating the pattern? A pattern? And yeah, yeah, the answer is yeah. So wait, what? What's the Yeah, the if you look at it, and then it'll be in the chapters file. And it will be Oh, my gosh,

yeah. So it is a shape that interlocks with itself. And it can always keep skipping and locking and you try and look for the same pattern anywhere on it. And it never replicates the same pattern. Are you sure that that's what the article says? You get it out? Figured it out? You find the pattern? Yep. Where's the pattern? Oh, no, that's a little bit different than that. Oh, that one's a little different to oh, they're all these two are the same.

Oh, that's just a small section of it. That's part of it. That's not it is the Einstein tile. Anywho it's really weird looking. It's like it looks it looks like what it looks like I said it looks like a virus. It looks like a Triforce with a virus right? It looks like a Triforce they got scared they got scared as well it's like a

Triforce across Scary It's like a wiggly wiggly try forces. That if you're looking at chapter files on a podcasting 2.0 app, after the chapter files has been completed by the one and only Scott, Scott, we will you'll be able to see it. If not and click link and be taken to the page. You can get a podcast app that will do that new podcast app talk I think the podcast apps.com Check it out just podcast apps.com And we'll see if it goes to the podcasting 2.0 thing. We'll see Oh, well. It's

loading. It's loading. Yep. Yeah, you can go to just podcast. redirect to podcast index.org/apps/app as same thing, a new podcast. Yeah. So yeah, there's a whole bunch of cool ones up there. So yeah, that's that's that's it. That's, that's good for their news segment. So you are what is called a cosplayer. Yes, I am. What's a cosplayer? Someone cosplays. I wanted you want me real quick. A long time ago. I was looking at the South Carolina license plate. And there's a picture of a Palmetto.

Yeah. Okay. And I was like, Oh, thanks. It's a palm tree. And I was like, Oh, cool. There's a palm tree on that license plate for South Carolina. And your mom was like, that's a Palmetto. And I'm like, it is what that's a palm tree sweetie. What's a Palmetto and she's like Palmetto like, like I'm just a complete moron for not knowing what this is. If you are looking at a palm tree and a Palmetto next to each other, you're like, This is the same thing.

None of them are next to each other. No, if you haven't seen a palm tree and a little bit Okay. I don't know how many palm trees I've seen in real life. In real life. We've seen a few because we went to Hawaii that one time. They had did have palm trees. They didn't have like a couple here what else they had in Hawaii. They had Oreos. Do you remember the pineapple place? With the no ice cream? The dove land or the the EU, you load the Elan presentation. The loaded pistol doing the backwards

it's been a part of our show for a while. Not sponsored. So, cosplay. I went and looked up the history of cosplay. Oh, it goes way back. Yeah. Then the priests toy Oblivia pre 20th century, masquerade balls were features of Carnival season in like 15th century. And I mean, it goes way back. And one of the cool ones that I read about was in 1877 Jules Verne sent out a whole I gotta get I gotta, I gotta get I gotta get back to

where I'm not saying as much. Well, I'm seeing a lot. Yeah, we got to stop it's good job. Jules Verne sent out 700 invitations to an elaborate costume ball, where several guests showed up dressed as characters from his novels like a pilot. And that that was that was back way, way, way back. But then, of course, in the same Wikipedia page. Oh, they say the first people that dressed up as fictional characters. And like, you literally just said that Wikipedia isn't wrote by one person. But they saw

they should look and they should be concerned. No. I expect excellence from my free websites that are crowd sourced. Excellence. What is it? What are they say? I don't know. Isn't a trustable source? No, it's not you need to what you have to find out. It'll work though. Okay. for a school project, the little numbers. They tell you where they got that information. So then you have to go to that site and see if it's a reputable source. This that I just said about Jules Verne comes from a

book called cause play a history. Builders fans and makers who bring your favorite dot dot dot and it's on page something or other page 12 About Jules Verne. So well I got how reputable is that however reputable. This author is and I have no idea. So I got a good little little page from kiddle.com or Kiddle kids.kiddle.co. Okay, and it was actually pretty good. I read it. It's cosplay is a short way of saying costume play. It is an act of dressing up to look like an anime manga video game

Japanese rock or J pop character. I personally does this is called a cosplayer. Cosplay can be divided into two parts basic cosplay and masquerade cosplay. Both types of cosplay involve trying to physically look like the character including speaking like the character of memorizing quotes and so on. masquerading where the masquerade usually refers to the cosplay competition where cosplay is given cosplayers demonstrate their skills in creating

costumes putting on skits and technical matters. Even though cosplaying is originally from Japan. There are a number of cosplay communities in Malaysia, China, United States in Indonesia, and the Philippines. Because of the popularity of Japanese animation movies and popular culture in those countries. Cosplay communities often hold events such as parties and conventions, some of the best cosplayers can be found amongst all of them. So on that it basically is just saying anime manga video games,

and you scroll down and I couldn't read anymore. I was looking at Japanese rock J pop things like that, but it doesn't. I mean, that's not necessarily for I mean, I guess I'm just speaking from the website we've been to that's true. But it's pretty much all pop culture. You will dress up like everything that dress I bought chair just when we fly. We go to the pop culture conventions. We don't go to the anime conventions. We did one time.

Yeah. There were characters that were not anime characters. That was also sort of a convention convention. Like there was Yeah, stuff and folks just want to dress up in the one that they've been making. Yeah. Speaking of which, I'm making a costume currently. Oh, that was crunchy. You coughed and it was crunchy, and I could hear it. Y'all couldn't hear it. But just imagine. Anyways, there's a character named Hudson a Miku. She has really long blue hair, a

blue tie, gray vest, and a black skirt and black boots. You've probably seen her before if you're on the internet. But she's ever she is everywhere, believe me. Which is kind of why I've been putting off doing this costume. But I finally caved. And I was like, You know what? No, I'm gonna be fun. And I'm gonna do it. Well, that's, that's one of the things if you want to do the character, you shouldn't let a bunch of other people doing that

character stop you from doing that character. Yeah, and that's kind of what a lot of these websites had in common about saying, Don't gate keep cause plays, because it's not your character. It's not like you're telling people don't cause play this character, right? I'm the one who's well can cause me this for a while there. Everybody was dressing up as Harley Quinn Yeah. And people still do and people right and everybody was like, everybody's Harley Quinn's like, yeah, they

wanted to dress up like Harley Quinn. Let them dress up like Harley Quinn. People dress up like spider man. And then they do a little little fun thing. Yeah, they pointed each other with each other. You made the motion but you forget. Oh, this is audio. You can see me that's all that matters. But no and you do what you want to do, you know? Yeah, I looked up some of the world's biggest cosplay

conventions. Okay, Anime Expo is the yeah is the most big. I am Expo it was a yearly convention currently held in Los Angeles Convention Center. Anime Expo has grown significantly over the last few years and is currently the largest anime and manga convention in all of North America. Wow, I think that's the one that had all the problems last year, I think so. It is the second largest running anime convention as of 1992. So it's been the are the second longest running anime

convention. As of 1992. Wow. Anime Expo has seen very many premieres of shows movies and bands, and has the incredible ability of bringing stars from all over the US to one particular location. Comic Con international course. That's not strictly cosplay, though. Yeah. Or kind of what I like about Comic Con. I like the one that we go to. And then we're gonna go to this year's Galaxy con. And it is all civil of fandom is what they

call it, right? And it's basically all of pop culture. So you'll have a huge Star Trek contingent and a huge Star Wars contingent. Bunch of anime stuff, a bunch of video games stuff, just anything that you could be a fan of. Isn't there? Thought about getting a booth? Just just for fun. It actually costs about the same as going for a wait for a weekend for three, three. Yeah. No, no, no. Anyway, we're not gonna get it. I'm not gonna do

it. It was just a funny thing. I was just gonna sit there at a table behind Yeah, not sell anything. Not sign anything. They're like, hey, what do you sell? Because like people Yeah, just two people. It'll be fantastic. Umbrella, an umbrella and meet us but just look like a crazy person or dress up in a real fancy outfit. Yes. Victorian dress on have an umbrella and then put me this behind you and like Comic Sans. people be like, Are you a cosplayer? Like no one know what

that means? What does that mean? Where am I? Oh boy. What year is this? Comic Con International. San Diego, in San Diego. So the San Diego Comic Con began its journey to stardom in 1971, a small group of comics movie and science fiction fans that includes shell Dorf, Kin Krueger and Richard Alf, came together to form the very first comic book convention in Southern

California. Originally, Comic Con was a one day event. And the purpose at that point was just to raise funds and generate interest for a larger convention that can be put there in the future. The success of this event led to the first full fledged three day Comic Con, which was held held August 1 through third 1970 at the US grant hotel with lots of famous guests. A little over 300 attendants packed into the hotel's basement for the groundbreaking event in enjoy

games, videos programs and panels. This will be outline its successors would follow for convention in the future. Yeah, that's good. No, that's like nothing. Yeah, and conventions have become this whole thing. We weren't always convention season. At the one of the conventions of the anime commit the Queen City anime con that we went to in Charlotte. I almost got to do a panel. I was just gonna make when we went to a panel about something a panel about Harajuku fashion, right? And

it was she wanted to go to it. I was like, Okay, I'll go I'll go sit with you because you know, your kid and I need parental guidance here. So um, then I went and Isn't that was doing it didn't show up. Right. A lot of people didn't show up because that was during the dark times. And a lot of people didn't show up to a lot of things. Yeah. Oh, the dark, dark dark dark times of the

big goof. Yeah. And so the the person who worked there was like, sorry, everybody, there's not going to be an OE the person cancelled and we're not able to do a panel. Does anybody want to do a panel? Does anybody know a lot of stuff about something? And I was gonna get up and do a podcast panel about podcasting about your hobbies. And but Leila was like now I'm surprised Dragon Con isn't on here. Dragon Con is for fantasy stuff.

Yes. So I guess not cosplay conventions, which, which people dress up anything with con at the end people dress up. Podcast conventions people dress up like podcasters I actually dress up. Oh my gosh, I have ideas. A cardboard. Sure SM seven V. Seven V. Dressed up as a pair of headphones. dress up as a dress up as a podcaster. Like, you have to turn your pockets inside out because you're broke. I can have a stick with a little pouch on the back.

Like backing up into the happy hobo from the old TV shows. Oh, wow. Oh, okay. So when I was looking up the cosplay, and we're talking about the old timey stuff. In like the early 1900s, one of the first people to like win a prize for a costume that they made of a fictional character was Mr. And Mrs. William Fell from Ohio. They went to a skating rink, a masquerade at a skating rink. And one of them was dressed as Mr. skyjack. And I'm like, What the heck as a Mr. skyjack. So I

look, I click the little link on Wikipedia. And it took me to Mr. skyjack from Mars. And this was a little rabbit hole I went down. Basically, it's a dude from Mars with a big weird looking head. And he makes observations on earth. Like he like sends notes. He's taking notes on Earthlings. And it's pretty funny. And it reminds me there's a comic strip out now and I can't remember the name of it. But there's these aliens and they're, like talking to each other and trying to understand

humanity. And it's very funny. Very just observational humor. So I forgot to tell when I was talking to my me my costume. I'm gonna add lights to it. Oh, yeah, it's where it's gonna be epic. Yeah, we're working on it pretty good. She's getting my expertise on hooking up strings of LEDs. Yeah, he's helping me with. I have ideas for what I'm doing. She's going to have a belt full of battery pack. Oh my gosh. That's gonna be so heavy. It's gonna be so hot. I'm

gonna go to the causeway lounge. I think I am gonna have to take my way off. We can. We can actually be heavy. We can actually rig up a little mini air conditioner system for you too, if we got batteries. If you get too hot, because it's gonna be in July. Plus, they sell the little things so you can put like around your neck like the fan necklaces, remember? Yeah, there's there's a couple of options. green walls. You also just take some frozen peas and a cooler and just like a bunch of frozen

peas. And then just like put them on your back. You can be peekaboo. I don't know what that means. Oh, come on. No yellow polka manga. Let's make it a pawn. Oh, oh, P Kumiko. Yes. Yes, jeez. Oh my gosh, oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh. Okay, so Mr. skyjack is a Martian. And this, this couple have to do dressed up as Mr. skyjack and got got an award. And I went and looked at Mr. Skaggs. There's a link in the show notes to the Wikipedia, you can actually find some of them. They're all in the

public domain now. Which is kind of cool. So we're gonna, I'm gonna go kick around and look watch observational humor from the early 1900s. I think it's going to be an interesting rabbit hole for me to go down. Oh, yeah. There. Yes. 1030. It is 3030 at night. And we are about to hit the 30 minute mark. I think we can. Probably tomorrow we could probably wrap wrap up cosplay is a cool thing. It's fun. And I didn't know how to signal you to like to like Wrap It Up

wrap 30 we need we need like a little lights. But once we're in the studio, we'll be looking more at each other. Yeah. And we'll be able to lay hands on one. Yes, that should be soon. We're good. done. Oh, I was gonna say on. I forgot what I was gonna say. Oh, the I was gonna say open for extremely long day. And we got a big day tomorrow so we get some flimsy going to do and we'll take lots of pictures. That's one of the things that cosplay conventions. Oh my gosh, do you know how many

times I heard the words? I liked your cosplay? Especially to me Good grief. There was so many people running around to each other I like you guys me I like I like your cosplay oh I like your cosplay and it's just a positive place it's very positive. It's all about the community, everybody's positive. Everyone likes to hobbies. It's a hobby. It's a hobby that a lot of people are into which is there's a lot of people that will help you out and a lot of

it's a good, fun fun thing to do. Once you learn skills like sewing and whatnot and cosplaying it doesn't have to be all about sewing and printmaking. You can just order your Causeway and awake and you're good. You don't have to get a week. But Lou likes it. She's a DI wire. I'm a DI wire DIY or die by brownie Oh, man when a noun goes to conventions. He does Kylie Jenner factual. Fun Fact Friday with Leila and David is a meanness media
