Hello. Hi. Welcome to a fact. Okay, as you can see a canned episode. We're recording this on Thursday the 22nd. September. Yes. So that'll give you like a little retrospection. Right. Anyway, not gonna be saying any talk about that after the intro. We got to talk about the old intros go over. We were talking about facts. We this is Fun Fact, Friday, we talk about fun facts each week. And normally, we have a new fresh episode every week. But this episode is what we like to call canned.
Because we took this week off or something happened or one of us was sick, or I probably got my braces or gum surgery. Some reason we can't be at our computers, or talking on a Thursday on the Thursday night doing a live show, we we try and do the live shows. Thursday nights at 7pm. Eastern, you can go to Fun Fact friday.com Or you can listen on curio caster or pod verse and having a canned episode simply makes it easier. Yes, it gives us a just release if we don't have anything to
release, right? Because once you've got an episode of a podcast ready, and everything's good to go, uploading it and refreshing your your RSS feed is pretty easy. So yeah, I was sick last week, and I don't like not having a show. You got to you got to be consistent. Yeah, you know, see is key. somebody finds our show, and they're excited about it. And they get a little one minute episode of us saying, Oh, we're not doing an episode this week. You wouldn't worry you.
But normally, we try and do it live on Thursday nights. So we have an episode for you this week. This week. There will not be any support section on this episode because it's a canned episode. Any support that came in for the show via our donation link on next episodes, podcasts? Yes. On the next fresh episode. Yes. Next week's more not necessarily next week, because what we have to to canned in a row. Yeah. Oh, no. On the one that we have the support in, we will have the support.
Yes. If you'd like to support the podcast, you can go to FunFactFriday.com and click donate or you can we'll tell you that the end of the show, okay, got to make them listen, or you can hit boost. Give them the watch time a lot of people click off of an episode once the outro starts. They're like I'm done. deleted. You gotta stay for the for the social credit scene. So yeah, since this is a canned episode, we're just gonna jump right into the good news. And do you have I do not have a good
news story. But I do have something I can talk about. All right, so I'm gonna go ahead and let you get started. Go ahead. And now the good news segment. Fun Fact Friday, this week on Fun Fact Friday. I have an article. He does not so. So my article kind of goes along with what we're talking about today.
The ease road lines and Australia glow in the dark. And it is a Tron style that went viral what it reminded social media of Tron so a trio of Australian companies had made a glow in the dark road paid to better illuminate highway lanes
at night. And our teal green hue has reminded social media of Tron so currently being trialed in Victoria, Australia, a lane marking use Photo luminescence which is the same technology used in glow sticks and other glow that are products that absorb the sun's light during the day and release it after dark. I have that on my phone case, because it's really
vibrant and I like it. Yep. tarmac linemarking in collaboration with Omni grip and VicRoads created the product that went on trial for a one kilometer or one kilometer along Matang Road in South East Victoria, Australia. And afterwards, we're swamped with calls from businesses and town councils wanting their own roads illuminated. I think it's a very good idea. And I think it looks pretty cool. It's a blue I think it's a good idea to have have stuff that glows in the dark.
For some things I used to have a light switch the glow in the dark which just makes That's it. Oh, do you have any more that glow in the dark paint? I do. Okay, little mini pots, though. That's fine. I just need like a dot. Yeah, because I've got some black headphones that I use on the other computer. This isn't news. So I'm going to turn the news down. Yeah. And I like having the left earphone on the left ear and the right earphone the right ear. And the cords go into both of the sides of the
earphone. So I don't know what's left or right. And the little marking that tells you whether it's left or right is extremely hard to see. Unless you've got like a lot of light. And I don't like a lot of light in my room. So I just want to get like a little dye. I like a little like a little dot for one of the ears. So like I know that one with a glowing.is the right ear, you know.
So this probably isn't very relevant right now. But I talked about it on the episode that we just recorded, but Oh, dang, it disappeared. Well anyways, it said gas down here and it said three Oh 3.9 or 3.09 3.09 Yeah, sorry. I'm talking into my mic. I know you're probably you're moving around a lot. Yeah, I am. I'm very I'm very happy tonight. Like a good mood. Is it because he ate that chocolate? Partially chocolate for the fundraiser? Yeah. Good old fundraiser chocolate super thin bar
chocolate for $1 Where's the best chocolates? Not that expensive anymore. It used to be like crazy expensive. Yeah, but now a regular candy bar is a buck 29 Yeah. Inflation man. Inflation man. Inflation man. Oh, new superhero. Or villain I guess. All right, so there's a good news segment. What do we got for our facts for this week? Road signs or just traffic's well signs. Traffic signs. Road signs. What did you say? Road signs, I guess street signs
all right. Oh, street signs the what you said. Anyways, named street signs off your head right now. Stop and do not enter and railroad crossing and directional signs like interstate numbers and like things that tell you where you're like street names, street name signs, that's a thing. And then there's informational signs that tell you things that you need to know while you're out there in the world. There's the warning signs and get the red signs. Yeah,
do you know the difference in the colors blue blue signs? No. Okay, so I can actually I can do this off top my head because I know all about signs. Okay, so when and this may be specific to North Carolina for some of them. But a blue sign is a point of interest. Like a scenic area or a rest area or something along those lines. Also, brown signs are like super
Disney's Oh no, I went away when I Okay. Okay, so brown signs in North Carolina are things that are also areas of interest but not like right off the side of the road it's just letting you know hey, the Museum of Art is up ahead. Whatever exit or you know, points of interest that are cultural I guess about green green signs are your typical like telling you where to go signs there's gonna be your exits their green signs, they're gonna have like your, your
you're gonna sneeze? Sneeze face, because I was kind of in the middle of sneezing and not sneezing, right? The green signs tell you where to go. Now, when it comes to the shield shaped signs. Green means a state highway and also white, white or green. Normally white means a state highway. What is shield? The shield shield? Oh, it's Yeah. Yeah, like it looks like a
shield. And the Blue Shields are interstates. Yeah, like those are the ones that go right interstate 95 Let's see interstate signs like route us 66 with the with the fancy shield. Um, that's an older of just an older version older version now. I think they used to, I don't know if those are called interstates. They're called the routes or highways. Now, the thing about those are like caution. Type signs are typically the triangles. Interstates. Interstate signs.
North the south signs are odd numbered. east to west interstates are even numbered. And here's another fun fact about interstate signs. The interstate numbers go from west to east getting larger. That's why highway or interstate 95 is on the east coast. It goes north to south and the east coast. What isn't that interesting? Pull up a map map map of major interstates. Now you can probably just bring that or
brave search it or you know, map of the major interstates. Yeah, so the major interstates I know 90 goes I go there you go look at look at the numbers interstate five as the West Coast and north the south ones the north the south ones interstate five as the West Coast and then you've got
interstate 15 goes from what San Diego up to Canada? Yeah, that's because that's the north the South the end and odd numbers and then it goes from five up to 95 going from west to east so if somebody tells you interstate 45 You'll know as color there it is my thing like your earphones Sorry. Yeah. And then the the even numbered west to east or east or west whichever direction you remember this that goes from I believe. Is that north north to south or south and I can't
remember. And I don't have the I don't have the map in front of me show. But yeah, that's that's a few things about signs that I know right off the top of my head. Warning signs are typically going to be yellow describe yourself in a road sign. I could describe you. Me dear crossing. Because the it's been a while since we told that story. It's been a long while. So we were we were in Sam's Sam's Club purchasing some
items. A lot of items. And red red just round the corner. We hear we hear a commotion and we turn around and there is a buck. I don't see the deer no five seconds because I turned around. And this this kid screaming her heart out turned into her mom
and like hugging her. And I turn around is near all I see is a D I don't see any of this because I'm facing the other direction and I'm like whatever I'm looking at something completely and I look over and I see my wife grab Phaedra grab grab Leila and like throw her up against the olive oil. Yeah, and I'm like what's happened who's my shoulder for like a few days and the deer just runs right past me and get this right past
where Leila was standing so she almost got hit. If it wasn't for the quick actions of my wife and get this I kid you not yo ran directly into a pallet of deerpark water which always makes the story unbelievable. So everyone thinks we're lying. Are you like no no ran and it will try to jump but the since the floor of Sam's is like slick concrete. It couldn't its feet found no purchase on the floor. My eyes were cameras. This would be a viral YouTube video.
Yes. After it's got up from being good quote right there be will be Willard from running into the pallet of water. It got up and we took some carts and we wrangled it out in the back. One of the loading bay doors out back into the woods behind Sam's. So yeah. It was funny because I heard the announcement be like I don't remember what else. I was too young for that. Yeah. But like on the announcements, and I was like what they were calling people back to the back to help wrangle it and
it was it was confusing. The poor thing. It was okay. So we believe it came in through the tire department tire department because they've got their doors open. Yeah. And there's a bunch of woods behind Sam's where we live so we see deer in town quite a bit. There was okay, there was an ostrich, ostrich ostrich in front of the school window one time. What not when I was a school, like a few years back. But my math teacher told us a story about it. That she took a double take out of her window
and classroom. And there was a there was an emu or ostrich I can't remember when she said it was an emu. But apparently it was just looking into the classroom. And I think it was one of the petting zoos But last Oh no, no. So it was just like a plot to a cartoon episode. I just I just popped my pee there. Sorry. But yeah. Oh, a couple episodes ago it was on the no agenda stream I was listening live and it was a I must have been really close to my mic
because I was popping like every other word it was bad. I was like I can't believe that got past me. Oh my gosh, we try and have good audio here. The stupid gems speakers with the gym teacher that is a gym teacher so he doesn't really know his mic. He's right up against you like this. And he's like yelling into it. Like we can hear you bro. Yeah, it's called over modulation. Like a Coach P send your son your girls to the locker room to get changed.
You know? We can hear you. We can hear we can hear you we're good. Yeah, that's one of the things about once you start getting into audio you like you cringe at a lot of things. Really bad audio. ASO, the buzzer is extremely loud. No, yeah, there's no it's it's loud. So we that's that's pretty much what I wanted. I mean, I know more about science. It's just not coming to my head right now. Yeah, we need to have some more facts about sign generally gotten into the facts. I mean, I told
a lot. Oh, just from just from talking. What's your favorite sign? I started to our favorite. Yeah, even say your sign. Um, I like Okay, I like the I have a link at least a least favorite sign you do. Let's see wrong way. Okay, the reason I don't like wrong way is because they'll put them in ambiguous places where you're not sure if it's talking to you or the other side. Yeah. I hate I go the wrong way. I hate to sign with straight line and a straight line. That's a little curvy. Like it goes
straight. It's letting me know. Yes, letting you know that there's a it looks ugly. Yes. It's not aesthetic, but it's informational. Worst sign it's the Biohazard sign. It looks really cool. Yeah, that's not a street sign. I will it can be. Well, yeah. Biohazard a vote, you know of a truck carrying like mutagen form from carrying some acid on the freeway, right? I mean, they gotta move it right. You gotta move the acid from one place to another. Yeah,
the first road signs were designed for cyclists. The modern world science has origins dating back till the late 1800s, during which they were they were erected in the US roads to warn cyclists of potential hazards. A lack of transportation safety back then resulted in high number of cycling related injuries. As a result several cycling organizations partnered to create road signs that warn cyclists of potential hazards. That's a good good reason to create signs you know?
Yeah, they're they're very important. It's like it's like I always say this you know, it's like I'm not a I'm not a big fan of a lot of the laws that exist a traffic laws a traffic laws. Most of them make sense. A lot of them yeah, a lot of makes sense. It makes sense. The octagon is a universal shape for stop signs because it is low cost. Ever wonder why stop signs are octagons Why are stop signs octagons I'm glad you asked. Hold on Hold on. Hold on. Why are stop signs octagons
I'm glad you asked. You may assume that it's because octagons are more visible than other shapes. But it this isn't the case. So the US government actually chose octagon for the shape of stop signs because it was the cheapest to make allowing more money into Pilates. Yeah, to save money
when municipalities that's my favorite word. Now, to save money when creating new roads and upgrading existing roads with stop sign and you did not form your answer in the form of a question what is you may assume because octagons are more I know I know. Oh my god. What is you may assume? Yeah. Oh my goodness. I need to add sound. We have have like no we don't have a buzzer. I don't have a buzzer at my school is this Oh no, here we go that's what it is.
Yeah. Why did you hear that? All right anyways? Sorry, hold on. Okay. There are three types of parking signs. Not all parking signs are the same. Okay? Under the m mu T CD. There are three specific types of parking signs including permissive, no parking and no standing. So I guess no standing is like no loitering. No standing you got to crawl everywhere. Sorry. Just the rules. It's not me, man. You can't stand you gotta crawl. You gotta get a kind of roll. You gotta roll under back.
Have you ever seen the bully signs? That just don't make sense? Yeah. Bridge ISIS before road. That makes sense. No, not to me. Okay, so someone explained it to me, but I don't understand that. So. So we were in Charlotte. One time. Yes. And this is back when we were both, you know, teenagers, late teens didn't have a lot of money. So we went to CC's pizza, the Eat CC's pizza had, like 399 pizza buffet. Did the sign say 399? pizza buffet? No. Oh,
we walked up to the door. And there were two doors, right? We're like, Oh, two doors. And we were looking for like an entrance and exit sign, as most places will have. They have two doors. Well, they didn't. One sign said order pickup door. And the other sign said dine in. And I'm like, Oh, okay. So when you walk in, there's going to be like a separator, like a little
velvet rope or something to keep the two sides separate. So they'll know who's walking in for for delivery order pickups, and who's walking in for, for not delivery with their place. They walk right next to each other. And they walked into the same little waiting area, right? And I'm like, I don't understand. So Phaedra walked in through the dining door. And I walked in through the pickup door. Right? And oh, my gosh, they flipped out because I was dining in and I walked in
through the pickup door. They're like, you pick it up when you pick it up? And I'm like, oh, no, I'm dining in with her. It's like, you got to go through the dining door. If you're going to dine in. I'm like, wow, okay, no. I was like, do I need to like leave and come back? And they were like, No, it's fine. This time. I was like, Well, I'm never coming back. So. Yeah. And then. So we success. My class successfully made our math teacher stop giving us warmups because we were too bad at them.
Oh, no. Do you want to brag? I went well. I was okay at them. So it's not completely my fault. But she was giving us questions that we didn't know the answers to that she was like teaching us that day. And she would get mad if we didn't get it. Right. So yeah, she stopped. It used to degrade you on? Yeah. Boys. Traffic signs were originally made of wood or stone. Well, that makes sense. Yeah. I mean, you got Okay, so traffic
signs. I wonder how like the first sign. I wonder what it was, because I know the first like, tablet that they found the oldest tablet says curse, curse cursed. A guy just pointing it well, you think about like you think just a guy, the old like wood reliefs and stuff where like, it's a picture of a road. And then there's like a signpost and it's got like eight signs on it pointing different directions. And they also have a different
town name. Yeah. But there's got to be even further back stuff and that people had to like wrote on rocks and stuff saying this is the road to Rome or whatever, you know, they had something at the Dole Plantation, like in the middle of it, remember? Oh, yeah, it was like that. Like, yeah, like Sydney, Australia, like 554,000 miles or something like that? I don't know. That's a whole lot of trips around the earth to get back to Sydney. I don't know how far the miles the mile Earth is.
I don't know how many miles the earth is around. I don't know if three, maybe four maybe probably probably like maybe 10 Probably over 10 It is at least 10 miles or 10 miles around. We can probably justify that, or flat, just flat 10 miles. It's turtles all the way down. It's measured in turtles, you got three turtles on one side, you got three chairs on the other. I always liked the banana and the banana as using a unit of measurement. I like here's a boyband for scale, quarter for scale.
So I went to the bank today to make a withdrawal. And I almost told him I want it in dollar coins. So I want to start paying for stuff with sacks of money. Just like sacks of coins are like that'll be you know, $65 or whatever. And I just drop a big sack of coins on the table. Nice. I think it'd be I think it'd be fun. The stupid chat keeps kicking me out and putting me back again. Yes, because you're using kiwi. We gotta get chat proper IRC
channel. So yeah, we do. Like I said, we do the shows live Thursday nights and we have a chat room. Old school IRC chat. We may integrate discord or another chat program into it. It's more modern for the youths to get in there. No. Am I like a Discord server? We have a Discord server. We do what is just for me it's media. Yeah, it's part of Fun Fact. Friday. Fun Fact. Friday is part of me just media. Yeah. Anywho What else you got for signs?
That's it. So yeah, so we're gonna we're gonna be probably wrapping this up real soon, I started playing a game called satisfactory. And he has not been quiet about it. And it's fun. I'm like, Dad, it's a shout out every game respectfully. And that brings us to our first merch, which probably is already out, right. By the time we're putting us out this. Yeah, this canned episode. We have no idea. This may this may not get posted until the end of 23. But yeah, yeah, we got
our first shirt coming out. It says Shut up. Respectfully, respectfully. My mom was we were okay. So we were finishing an episode of a show. And I was going to get food. And she came back. And while I was eating it, and she was like, I think I think this is the context of it. But she said, Is it Boston? And I was like, Mom, shut up. Respectfully. And she she was like, so, so. So that's a you catch yourself after you told your mom to shut up? Is that what happened?
No. Shut up. Like I know. No, joking. I know you were being disrespectful. Yeah. I would never say that. Shut up. Respectfully. Yeah, so we got that come in. We've got a designer working on it right now. Or in the past, in the past, and we'll have links to we'll have links to that on Fun Fact, Friday, probably in the show notes. Also, we'll probably be like me this media.threadless.com or something along those lines. Not sure yet. But it'll be up and
you'll be able to be able to see it. And we will be giving a store credit to our supporters who've been here for a long time and supported us with larger amounts. So yeah, yeah, give us I forgot I was gonna say, I lost Oh, my God, I completely lost track. This never happens. But yeah, pop on over to FunFactFriday.com and check it out. Yeah. It's pretty cool. Oh, in the chat. There is a self hosted web IRC client. I've got a web server in the other room. We can put this on. Wow. Yeah.
Interesting. Check. Take a look at that. And servo has joined chat. Yay. Yeah. Servo we're recording our outlook. Well, we'll talk about this after we after we we do the outro did you have anything else for us for this episode? Nope. Road signs are cool. They help and they're taking me stupid sometimes but government so we can't really say anything. There's there's ISO right there. Government. Well, we can't really do anything. All right, folks. Hopefully we'll see you
next week with a fresh episode. Fun Fact Friday or silly speculation Saturday? Goodbye. Outro is Kyle here. Yeah, he is. Hey, Kyle, what's going on? Fun Fact Friday.
