Hello! Hi and welcome to Fun Fact Friday. Yo doing voices that's Leila and I'm David. I'm Leila's dad. Each week we talk about different facts surrounding a different topic. And just trying to have a good time. That's the fun part. topic this week, that Oh, you're asking me the topic? Yeah, that's never been the case. 125 episodes in? Well, the topic is small things. Yep, tiny things, tiny things. itty bitty little things. We talked this week. And we decided

both of us like topics that are kind of kind of vague. Because you can have fun with them. You know, if we're, if we're like, okay, we're going to talk about aglets the little things on the tips of your shoe laces that make the shoe laces easier to put through the lace up holes on the shoes. And we're only going to talk about aglets we end up going off and talking about

other stuff anyway. So when we do vague things like random facts or or, you know, tiny things or small things we can grow, we can kind of go different directions with it. So, we're getting a question. We do the show live on Thursday and every other Thursday night. If you catch a live show, you can join us in our chat room, you can go to Fun Fact friday.com There's a chat, or you can go to IRC dot zero no dotnet and join

the hashtag Fun Fact Friday room all one word. So our intro, it's been asked in the chat room, it is inspired by feel good ink by gorillas. We asked the person who was coming up with that for us to kind of have that feel, but still kind of make it make it for us. So yeah. Yeah, there we go. So Leila, yes. Do you have a new story? Oh, boy. donations. Yeah. You're talking about donations. They're all in the one note. Okay, let me find it real quick.

You're not even in OneNote I forgot for you what I forgot. Oh, my goodness. Okay. click on refresh the notebook. Yes, I'm doing explain everything. We're professional. podcasters Wow, it's taken forever to refresh. We need to we need to trim the fat. Get rid of some of the old episode. Baroness, love and light. Yes, it was a boost. Okay. How much was the boost does? Oh, I didn't put the boost about Baroness love and light on the fountain that boosted 333 sets. Oh, thank you.

I left us a note. You got the note there. Post 2016. Ziggy and Bo Maria. Bo Bonilla. Bonilla. R E the new shape. Okay, hold on. Hold on, hold on. Okay. It's Ziggy and Bowie. Bowie are the pet names. See what happened there their spaces in the wrong spot? Yeah. So mittens and spot would be more imaginative these days. Yep. We're talking about pet names. And how, you know having just basic pet names. I have not heard I've not kept up with

popular pet names. So Ziggy and Bowie, I get David Bowie. And what Ziggy Owens stardust. I don't know. But thank you for the SATs. We appreciate the boost. You can boost us on podcasts and 2.0 app like fountain.fm or curio caster or pod verse or breeze? Those are some of the ones you can boost us on. Donate little bits of Bitcoin to us. We also received a PayPal donation from Vince for $5.55 which I also did not

transfer the dollar amount over to the one note. I don't know I don't know what's going on. Yeah, but yeah, we're value from PayPal donation. Yes, that is a monthly recurring donation. We definitely appreciate that. Those those help us keep the server servers spinning and making a whole bunch of server noises. Hopefully we move the server in house shortly. I've got the hardware for it now but haven't had the time to set that

up. But yes, thank you. We're value for value. If you find value in our show, find a way to return the value to us, be it art music, facts just Topic Ideas anything like that or monetary donations. So on to the news and now Fun Fact Friday news with your lead and only anchor for tonight. Me so Leila searched around but couldn't find a couldn't find a story. But you'll like this story. It's about spirit Halloween. Did you know that spirit Halloween? I did you know that spirit

Halloween? I do. What do you know about spirit. The other thing we're about to talk about the thing of spirit Halloween has donated over $100 million in donations to children's hospitals. And that includes having Halloween costume parties, and giving away they've given away over 50,000 costumes activity books, crayons, treat bags to its

partner hospitals. They said, as we began to grow, one of our challenges was that we felt as far as being a Halloween store and a place where people felt entertained, was wanting to invent something back to communities that we were operating in. So they noted that spirit Halloween since 2003, when the company had about 150 locations was not particularly well known. The group decided to focus that it would be giving back to those communities and more in which the company had

brick and mortar locations. They said they brainstormed and came up with the idea. Well, you know, we're a Halloween store. So why don't we throw Halloween parties at the hospital. So starting back in 2006, they chose 10 or 11 hospitals to have Halloween parties that we brought Halloween costumes, music, art supplies, and we through our first Halloween parties. And honestly it was a spontaneous combustion the kids

were absolutely transformed by it. So you know, you can you can donate stuff, the music here, you can donate money to kids hospitals to help help them out and help the parents pay the bills and things like that. But, you know, things like costume parties and extra life, the charity that goes in and and gives money to children's hospitals. They also do like game days, where they'll take a whole bunch of gaming systems up

to the Children's Hospital. And everybody sits around and plays like the old Mario games or Atari or lets all the kids play the retro games. And it's a big boost because hanging out in the hospital is not fun. So one of the YouTubers that I watch his merch line, I think 70% of the proceeds go to people with chronic illness. That's cool. Do you remember who it is?

Jake doodle Jake Doolittle. Jake's name is hard to something I think I've heard of James it's either Jake or James So yeah, that's that's just good news that spirit Halloween and then turn on the sponsor obviously we don't do sponsors we're Yeah, listener supported only. But little likes the store because the Halloween stuff. And I saw that I thought it was really a good thing. So on to small things. Small thing, just one

or two or all of them all the small things. Because there's a song Leila Well, I didn't know. Oh, hey, Nam. Welcome to the chat room. I haven't I haven't been paying much attention to the chat room. Sorry. Yeah. Since the recording got messed up there. I mean, it didn't. Nope, totally. Yeah, totally. Yeah. Perfect. Yeah. Perfect. Professional podcasters. So we got a letter from Kay, a couple of weeks ago. And we saved it because we want to do a whole

episode about it. So why don't you go ahead and read the letter. Oh, and I'm gonna take a sip of tea. Lucky. This, okay, tiny things. The smallest bone in the human body is the ear bone actually known as this vapes. And the world's smallest film, a boy and his atoms is a 62nd stop motion animation made by arranging individual atoms. Mongolia has the world's smallest Navy can't get much smaller than atoms. Yeah, not really. Quarks I quarks, I guess.

Their fleet consists of a single tugboat. Do you know what I mean by several Taylor's you know what a tugboat is? No. Oh, well, here's a little little learning experience for you. A tugboat are these little boats that tug the big boats. They like push them like because you know how hard it is to steer a boat, right? Imagine if the boat was huge. So they have all these little things called tugboats that go around the big boat, and like push it to where it needs

to be. Because of the big boat has its big ol engine on it just goes you know, but they have these little boats that have a bunch of like bumpers on the sides and they just bump bump the the big boats where they need to go. It's actually kind of fascinating to watch. A lot of coordination. So anyway, go ahead. This Molas species of flog frog, not Flog. There's a t shirt, flogs plugs. And I can't it's it's an inclusive, it's one of these

older letters too, so he didn't like type it out. It's not that old. It's not that old. But but the smallest species of frog is found in Cuba. They only grow to be the length of weight four inches. inches, the proper measurement system. Rhode Island is the smallest state in America yet it has the larger population than Alaska, the nation's largest state. The Pentax auto 110 was a world of smallest SLR camera, invented in 1978. I'm going to look that up. Just 1978 was invented by Joseph FINDEX.

No. smallest country in the world is Vatican City. At only way is it? Yeah. Really? Yeah. The Vatican super small. Oh, all right. I only 1/5 of the square mile. The next smallest country is mon Monaco. At three fourths of a square mile. That's also very say that right? Yeah. You got it. All right. So the Pentax I'm going to look that up. I'm going to look that up, because I want to see how small this SLR cameras and Vinod 1978 No, seriously? Because, you know, 919 78 it's what we always

it's always the joke. Are you not amused? Tell us about some tiny things. Okay. Shall I do the lizard first? Sure. Actually known as the dwarf lizard, the goo the Garga. sofiero is the world's smallest lizard and is typically found in the guagua. National Park in the Dominican Republic. It's the type of Gecko first discovered in 2001. It was immediately declared endangered species, and it measures six to eight inches long. Well, how do they know that is like they said immediately the

declared endangered species. What if there's like a cave that has like millions of them? It was like, Oh, we found this new thing. Oh, it's endangered. Let's find out the story behind that. The smallest car weighing only 150 pounds, the PIO 50 is the smallest car ever approved for street use. Built in the 1960s. They are now rare cars to go for $170,000 Okay, so that's that's a okay, because I've got a car one and that's not it. Okay, but that sounds like it was actually

produced for sale. Yeah, not just like somebody's trying to make the world's tiniest car. Yeah, this is actually produced for sale. Okay, well, here's my car story real quick, since we're on that custom carmaker Austin Coulson, in the US, in the US, set a record for the owner of the smallest roadworthy car that he can legally drive on the road. He said I've always wanted to have a Guinness World Record title for something and automotive was

always my favorite. So I went home and looked at the current world record and thought I could do that. His car measures 25 inches high, two feet 1.75 inches wide and four foot 1.75 inches long. It can be spotted by its Texas vanity license plate reading I'm big as two foot by four foot give or take an inch or two and little over two foot high so that's that's a

that took. Okay, so let's say to qualify as a roadworthy worthy vehicle Coulson needed to get the car registered and inspected and had to install a number of safety required features says again this website. It's included federal, it. These included federally approved safety glass for the windshield functioning windshield wipers and Department of Transportation approved signal lights, a seatbelt and a working horn. So there you go, folks, if you got to build a car, you got to make

sure you get The Seal of Approval there. So yeah, he made a tiny little two foot by two foot car, two foot by four foot. That's so small. Oddly enough, there's not a picture of him like driving the car. But that's okay. The smallest populated town is Cass in New Zealand got like one dude, there's one dude. Barry Drummond is the only inhabitant of caste New Zealand, a railway town in the Siouxland district. He

should he shouldn't be the mayor. However, he is hardly loanees Since curious tourists are constantly stopping by to visit the isolated stop. As a result, Drummond has added a mini golf course and a bowling alley to attract more visitors to keep them company and to make money. Well, okay, so if it's a small town it's a small town. Yeah, one dude. Like so many logistical questions like taxes and like, what if he What if he breaks the law? Does

he arrest himself? I guess he it would have to be a federal law. I don't know. I want to let's go to New Zealand Army this dude. I got questions. He's the judge jury and executioner Yeah, so one guy Oh, hey, you can't drive that fast. Oh, well, I can probably argue with himself a lot. He could he could make laws in his town and set the speed limit to like two so when tourists come it's like it almost impossible for them to leave the hey you can you can speed my down if you stop at my

putt putt course. Oh wow. Yeah, that's that's good stuff. So when I was looking for small stuff, Leila this world's smallest website came up super impulse.com and it's World's Smallest apparently there's a whole toy line called the world's smallest. Oh yeah. World's Smallest Hello Kitty world smallest Bob Ross. Yeah, like one and a half inch tall little Bob Ross with his with his. With his easel. They got all kinds of little toys. I got World's Smallest Garbage Pail

Kids which is the thing when I was a kid. Oh World's Smartest smallest Mars Attacks. Wow, they got he man. Masters of the Universe. They got all kinds of things. No, I have not. They're everywhere. They've got tiny. Sorry. And chess battleship. The world's smallest Crocodile Dentist. Have you ever played Crocodile Dentist? No, but I know what it is. You say you've seen it played? You yank the teeth out of the crocodile and it bites you Oh, wow. Ooh, world's smallest

Rubik's Cube. Oh, I'm gonna dig through this site. This is stocking stuffer heaven right here. No, I have not. I have not seen these. Okay, this is exciting and a bookmark that and move that over here. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Chandra boudoir, dankie from Nepal was one foot and seven inches tall, making him the world's smallest who ever lived. The title then he passed away in 2015 at the age of 75. And the title then

passed on to Ken. Reg, a sap are Magyar from Nepal, who measures at two feet two inches. Oh, well, I guess he beats this guy. Because this guy that I found, really? Yeah, this guy was this was published in 2020. And May. And it says that he's two foot 4.3983938 inches tall. So that's two inches taller than your dude. But when was your dude? That's 1414 Okay, so this this guy is newer. His name is It's in here somewhere, I promise. Wow. I can't find this guy's name in this article.

That's, you think it'd be like up near the top? Ah, here it is. It's right near the top. Edward Nino Hernandez. He is two foot 4.3938 inches tall or 72.1 centimeters, whatever that means. He's the shortest male living mobile. So I wonder if there's a shorter male that's not mobile. That's an interesting qualifier on there might have been that dude, that I said, maybe yeah, maybe he's bedridden or something along

them. Lyons but this guy, Edward. He is a dapper Looking dapper looking gentleman, and he's 33 years old and 20 to 35. Now there's some pretty cool pictures on the Guinness World Record side of him. He's just hanging out listening to dude play the cello or the something. Yeah, looks like a cello. And yeah, so he's just out here living his best life, his dogs taller than him. His dog sit next to he's got a golden

retriever. That's good stuff. cute stuff, the smallest artwork, something from dyslexia and other learning disabilities. Willard Wigan never excelled in school, but found solace in creating miniscule artwork that could barely be seen by the naked eye. Working under a microscope to capture the desired details. Some of his materials include visa matchsticks, nylon tags and grains of rice. The final product could typically fit into the eye of a needle.

I have seen the grains of rice artwork. I can't remember where we were. Maybe it was a Ripley's Believe it or not, or something. But like had a whole case around it. But then they had this big ol huge magnifying glass above it, or even a what's it called? A magnifying glass. The one with a with the eyepiece. Microscope microscope. Yes. Yeah. So have you seen those? Have you ever seen that? Yeah, he's our work on green Rex. In real life. Not

in real life. Now, we need to take you to Ripley's Believe It and this one's smaller. And it's like an actual sculpture. Oh, wow. Yeah, it fits in the I have an email. That is cool. What does that site? This site is list 20 five.com. Link link in the show notes. Of course. List 25. And there is one other seven. Yes. Number seven. Go ahead and post that over into chat. Number seven. It is a Alice in Wonderland. Looks like the Disney version. Like, carved into a grain of rice. And

painted. That's That's crazy. No paste. pison. IRC. Sorry. Yeah, I did. Okay. Yeah. So that's one of one of the benefits of the last section, I think because I want to my show notes. So yeah, the That's amazing. Yeah, that really is. Really cool. So yeah, I like when people people make tiny versions of big things, or big versions of tiny things, like the world's largest paperclip or, you know, stuff like that roadside attractions are the best. How about a tiny row beetle, row beetle,

Yanni and Laurel. It's the it's the Guinness World Record. Smallest crawling robot. Oh, it is. Let's see 88 grams, and which is about three grains of rice, give or take. So it's super light, it can lift up to 2.6 times its own weight and carry it. Researchers use pneumatic valves and airflow to allow the robot to coordinate its muscles without relying on an electronic based control system. So it's a super tiny it looks like a Oh, I don't know. I

don't even know how to describe it. I guess you could call a bug. Looks like a little see through bug. Oh my gosh, looks so cute. I want to eat it. Don't eat it. It was tasty. Don't you don't eat regular bugs. And you don't even buy it don't eat robot. Good. There's a whole book about nanobots. We don't need to. Yeah. What's that called? Pray. I think it was by Michael Creighton. Pretty good book. But it is a soft robot, which is powered by alcohol, specifically methanol. And there

will be a link in the show notes and they got a video. It is super tiny. I'm very fascinated by tiny robots. I like the Have you ever played the game of life? I think I've talked about this before. But there's a grid. And depending on if a cell is filled in or not. The cells around it when you go to the next stage, I guess you call it a life. Like there's a set of rules. And if two of the cells around the cell are living, then

it will die. And if three are living then it will live and create new life and it's just like this really neat game of life thing. I'll try and find it put a link in the show notes for that too. It's kind of neat. Sorry, we just got a notification. Microsoft only tells you how these things were on the screen. Try Microsoft 365 for free. I'm saying we already own a copy of Office. Okay, is the seller smaller? Atom I believe atoms are the smallest visible thing okay?

Like if they I don't think they've really like actually seen anything. So atoms bonded together to form molecules molecules come together to form cells. Yes. That's confusing. Yes. Ah, I don't care about science. Yes. Thank you, sir. Oh, Conway's Game of Life. And there are other variations of it that you can make some kind of neat stuff you can make a spaceship that shoots lasers. I don't know about Conway's Conway's Game of Life. You don't have a board game. Oh, y'all.

I didn't know what you're talking about. Okay, you're like what are you that's how you play life. You spin the spinner. Then you go to college or pay tax drop out? Yes. Conway's way of life. Like I said, I'm gonna try to remember put that in the show notes. It's it's fun to play with for a little while and then it gets boring. So what else do you have? That's tiny. Hold on, hold on. I think I got many that are fun. Well, I know you like to sculpt things Sark. Smallest Park.

Okay, what's the smallest Park the mill ins Park in Portland Oregon is the world's smallest park at barely two feets across. It was created by a journalist Dick Fagin. After he saw a light pole removed in the median outside his office that was never replaced. It just looks like a tree. It's just a tree. It's a it's just a tree. Why see? This is this is where world records and stuff get real. Just a treat persnickety. It's like can't call it a park.

You know what Leila? I think that you and I should found the world's smallest Park and make it one foot by one foot. We should. That's it. We're doing one tree. There it is. It's found in our in our front yard. One Fern and one. In our front yard. There is a one foot by one foot patch of grass. dug a barn? We don't have any ferns. Here. We own the woods. Oh, yeah, we got lots of woods actually. Yeah. Okay, so yeah, we'll take one of those square feet. Now we own own. We own. We own the

world's smallest Park. We call Guinness world smallest claim to fame. I own one foot by one foot piece of land. Oh, wow. Anyways, that's all I got. That's all you got for tiny things. Yeah, so there's gonna be a tiny episode. No, actually, it's about average. All right, folks. Now we're gonna head on over to the to the after show where we listen to copyright free music only and totally hang out and chat.
