Music. Hello good morning my name is Matthias I such a senior policy advisor at FEPS foundation for European Progressive study and I have the pleasure to host, that's talks podcast of today my Jensen from Denmark who is the Secretary General of the young European socialist yes, the biggest European umbrella organization party political that comprises a lot of members within Europe and Beyond so welcome my and thanks for joining the FEPS talks thank you.
Today we will speak about Millennials and politics. And who are millennials actually this is the Young Generation that was born between 1918 and 2015 235 and actually they constitute a quarters of Europe's entire population. Mike when we look at the Millennials end their engagement with politics, there's a lot of misperceptions out there wouldn't you say Millennials being depicted as politically apathetic.
Going to the voting stations is not something really exciting for the millennial generation to do, so I would like to hear from you what is your perception as a young person do Millennials engage in politics today. Yeah well thank you so much for inviting me and then I really love to talk about this topic. I think I agree with you that a lot of misconceptions about Millennials and about my generation and I think we need to new ends with a little bit.
Because it's true to some extent that my generation don't sign up for political parties as much as before as previous generations but I think that is. Enlarged due to the fact that my generation conceives political activism as way many more things than just being a member of a party. Play I've seen some studies that show that.
What is now very condescending been called clicktivism and is also seen as a political activity by my generation so I actually like in political parties share in political can send on social media, it's also political activism seen with Millennial eyes, but it's by the older generation off and frowned upon and Athena's political activist nothing I think that's a shame and I think we need to know answer picture,
that doesn't mean that I don't think it's important that my generation and roll and political parties because that is still the structure. Is the structural Foundation of our democracy in Europe so of course we need my generation on younger generations to be active passive Saint Patty's pets.
That was some different is some difficulties in your view the millennial generation is not that interested in taking part in traditional forms, political participation but then my what would your recommendations be on how political parties and specially Progressive parties can re-engage young people in politics. I think there is a lot of things that has to be done first of all. I think the POTUS have to agree that it's important to engage with this generation.
And I think for some of fella for some patches is also a matter of survival. I'm from Denmark and sometimes we with yo cuz that every time a local brand of Itachi meets they will start the meeting with two minutes of silence for the members, who died since the last meeting and I know that but it also shows that some places we have.
