39. Burritos, Chinatown, Mendocino County (w/ Andy Granelli)

Phil, Jake and Jason witness the triumphant return of Andy Granelli (from The Distillers & Seized Up) as we cram more fillings into the the List of Every Damn Thing by ranking burritos, San Francisco’s Chinatown, and Mendocino County in Northern California.

• We discuss a lot of bars in Chinatown and nearby North Beach. The  Li-Po Lounge has been around since 1937 (Anthony Bourdain-- America’s Angel-- recommends the Chinese Mai Tai). The Buddha Bar is where you can find the “strong like bull” drink. Vesuvio Cafe (which we refer to as “Vesuvio’s”) still has a Myspace and is a great place to go for Beat Generation vibes, as is Specs’ 12 Adler Museum Cafe. Bow Bow Cocktail Lounge has, according to Andy, seen some debauchery.
• The Lady from Shanghai had shooting locations all over San Francisco, including Chinatown. The climax takes place at Playland-at-the-Beach, which is depicted on the It's-It wrapper.

• Mendocino.com assures you that Cabot Cove (from TV’s Murder, She Wrote) is in fact, the Town of Mendocino. 
• The City of Ten Thousand Buddhas: go for the vittles, stay for the koi fish and peacocks. 
• Jake notes atrocities suffered by indigenous people at the hands of white settlers in and around Mendocino County, including the events of the California Trail of Tears and the Mendocino War.
• While discussing marijuana production, we refer to the Emerald Triangle, a nickname given to the area covered by Mendocino, Humboldt and Trinity Counties. This region produces more cannabis than any other place in the U.S.
• We’re big fans of redwood trees, which can be found in Mendocino County at Montgomery Woods and Hendy Woods. We speculate about where the moon of Endor scenes from Return of the Jedi were shot; it turns out it was privately-owned land up in Humboldt County.
• Anderson Valley, where Boonville is located, produces a lot of great wine. It’s also home to the Anderson Valley Brewing Company, which has been around since craft beer was called “microbrew”.
• Phil said the first sighting of Bigfoot was in Willits, but can't back it up with facts. Sources say it was somewhere in Humboldt County but who cares what they say?
• We mention Dexter Holland’s Anarchy Airlines, but we seriously doubt the guy is actually a fan of anarchy.

• The “Ukiah Shot” was an off-menu item at The Forest Club.
