Speaker 1

If you're ready , would you shout I'm ready .

Speaker 2

I'm ready . That wasn't a shout . I thought you were going to say clap your hands . So I was ready to clap my hands .

Speaker 1

No , I don't know why . I've never said that before , I know but I just heard it like flashback to preschool days with the kids . All righty then , hearing from God . Guys , we are now here in May , about to go into our Summers at Alive in our church . For those of you all who are part of our podcast audience , jump in with us .

We do a thing every summer called the God First Summer . Now , summers are typically a time where people are going to weddings , they're going to graduations , they're traveling the world and sometimes , not knowingly , you can kind of take a step back from God . Our goal is to raise up thousands of people who go counterculture .

When everybody's stepping back from God , we actually step towards God . So we do a thing for June , july and August , called the God First Summers , and it's very simple .

It is a commitment to put God first in your time , in your talent and also in your treasure , and so , if you want to jump in with us , I think this is a great setup for this moment , because if you're going to live a God-first lifestyle , you have to be able to hear from God .

So , for me , every significant thing that has happened in my life I can probably track back to His voice , meaning that when God called me in the ministry , it was because of his voice . When we're living outside of Washington DC and I was praying about being a pastor and I said God , where would you want me to pastor ? He said Gainesville .

I said where I didn't even know anybody in Gainesville . I had to Google Gainesville , florida . You were working in Gainesville , virginia at the time . It would have been so easy to move to Gainesville Virginia . We have other people that I know in Gainesville , georgia , but the way I asked the question it was almost like every significant .

Now , 17 years in the ministry , thousands of souls later , it's all can be traced back to the fact that I heard from God . When I'm in green rooms and I'm talking to pastors and people who've done remarkable things and led millions of people to Jesus and built some of the most amazing facilities .

When you really bring it all down and say , okay , how did that happen ? They say , well , god said God said this and I did that . God said invest here and I invested here . Even in the business world , god said this and I did that .

And I think we need to put a premium on the still small voice of God , because he is leading us by the cloud of day and the fire by night to get us to the place that he wants us to be . We have to stay in tune .

Speaker 2

Yeah , it's so good . I think a lot of people wish that they could hear the voice of God . I don't know , even when I was a young believer new in my faith . I would hear people say , well , god told me , and God said this . And I believe that God is saying and I'd be like wow , like where are they getting this from ? I want God to speak to me .

And it was almost like they were this special , like alien , like set apart kind of person that , wow , they're special and God speaks to them like that , but he doesn't speak to me like that . I'm just a regular person . But that is not true . God speaks to every born again believer the same way . He doesn't have favorites .

You can hear from God just like anyone else can hear from God . And when I figured that out in my life , it changed .

Speaker 1

I started hearing from God , and that's what we want to help you guys with today . We want to help you hear from God for yourself .

I mean , I thank God that we can come to church and we can get a prophetic word of the Lord for other people , but really even the prophetic word of the Lord should be confirmation of what God has been speaking to us in our private time .

So our ability to be able to decipher the voice of God versus the voice of the enemy versus ourselves is going to be huge .

Speaker 2

And .

Speaker 1

I think that's where people get stuck . They get stuck . Well , is that me ? Is that the devil , or is that God ? I don't know Right off , rip . Can you tell ? Can you give us any like wisdom about how to know the difference between ?

Speaker 2

I mean , I think that's step number one is knowing that there are three different voices that you're going to hear yours , the devils or gods .

But then sometimes there's , you know you , we can put it in those categories , but you know your family members and loved ones and coworkers and mentors can speak to you , but will it go on the side of the devil or will it go on the side of God ? You know what I mean .

So you kind of put things in that category good , bad or mine category good , bad or mine . And I think the more you spend time with God , the more you know God and the more you grow in your relationship with God , the more you can right away distinguish whose voice that is .

And so there's no shortcut , there's no easy way around it , but to say that just start doing it , start hearing God's voice , and then the more you know his voice , the more you know his voice . Like if you say Tabitha , I know that's Ken speaking to me . We can do the same thing with the voice of God .

Speaker 1

Okay , we're going to jump into it , guys . I think that's a great segue into John 10 , verse 27 . This is scripture . Tell me what you get out of it .

Speaker 2

It says my sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me . What do you take out of John 10 , 27 ? I love this because he says that my sheep hear my voice . Now , god is the shepherd and we are the sheep , and so God is the father , we are his children . When he speaks , we hear his voice . So the Bible doesn't .

It's almost like my sheep hear my voice . They don't sometimes hear my voice , they don't hear my voice . If this , that that my sheep hear my voice , so that tells me , as a child of God , I am perfectly wired , perfectly able to hear God's voice . It's just what I do . I should be hearing the children of God .

Speaker 1

we should hear the voice of our Father , but there is a frequency , there's a spiritual tune that we have to get sensitive to , we have to desire , we have to seek after to be able to hear His voice , and we're going to kind of unfold that in this podcast today .

You know the impressions of God , the voice of God , the prophetic leading of God and all of those things , and so is there

Hearing God's Voice Through Relationship

. Is there anything else that you would want um our listeners to know about John 27 ?

Speaker 2

Um , I think you know to if you break down the scripture and the Bible and the context of it and like what it really means . You know , back in the day there were shepherds and shepherds kept the flocks of sheep and um and so um , at night , you know , the shepherd would be with the sheep all day long . They had a great relationship with the shepherd .

At night the shepherd would lead the sheep to what we called a . Is it the fold ? Is it a sheep fold ? I forget what it was . It was an area where they would go and they would be safe , and so the shepherd would lead the sheep to this place of safety and the shepherd would go back home , rest , go to sleep , do whatever .

But in the morning the next day the shepherd would come to the sheep to get his sheep . Here's the thing . Maybe say here I drop off my sheep . I have 100 sheep with me . They go in the sheep fold , but there's also another man's sheep , that's another hundred , and then there's another person's , that's another hundred .

There may be four or 500 sheep in this protected safety . It protects them from wolves and all kinds of things at night that could .

Speaker 1

And there's multiple shepherds .

Speaker 2

And multiple shepherds .

Speaker 1

Okay .

Speaker 2

Okay , so you have all of these sheep in there . I'm going to pick up my sheep . I only have a hundred , but I go in there and I make a noise or a sound , and whatever that sound is my sheep , because they've spent time with me . They know me as their provider , they know me as their protector and their keeper .

Whenever they hear my voice , with all of the other sheep around , they will lift up their head and they will come out and they will follow me back out to the pastures because my sheep know my voice . And I think that's what the scripture is talking about here .

Is he's talking about like there are so many other voices out there on TV , media , radio , like there's so many other voices . You know , if you go to social media , everyone has something to say .

But amongst all of those voices , when God speaks , you have the ability to know his voice , to hear it and to follow him , and I think that's really important for us to know .

Speaker 1

So what I'm hearing is the word relationship , and if you're taking notes , I would write that down . Everybody say relationship .

Speaker 2

Relationship .

Speaker 1

And so the reason that the sheep knows the voice of their shepherd is because the sheep have a relationship with the shepherd and the shepherd has a relationship with the sheep . Jesus is our chief shepherd , and the more that we has a relationship with the sheep .

Yes , jesus is our chief shepherd , and the more that we have a relationship with Jesus , the more we'll be able to be in tune to his voice , absolutely and whenever it comes to . Is that me , or is that the devil , or is that God ? Well , the more you build that relationship , the more you'll know whose voice that it is .

So I guess what you're saying is that all of this hearing from God , really the birthplace of it all is relationship . Is that what you were ?

Speaker 2

saying yes sir .

Speaker 1

Okay , all right , why do you think people struggle in this area ? I just feel like there's a lot of people that's like well , there's a group of people that feels like hearing from God is weird . And I would say , if you're a believer , not hearing from God is actually weirder . Okay , you know , you are created to hear from God .

Speaker 2

It's what we do .

Speaker 1

Okay , so it's not weird . So when a Christian says , hey , I hear God said this and God said that , and I know some people can overuse what God said to put some authority on it , but for the most part that ain't this podcast right now . But for the most part this thing is built out of relationship right . And it's built out of hearing his voice .

Why do you think people struggle there so much ?

Speaker 2

I think that number one they don't have examples and you know , like we said , that they don't know that it's possible for them to hear from God . And they might look at their actions and their deeds like , well , I did this and I did that and I know I don't go to church like I should and I don't pray like I should , not .

It's that relationship kind of thing . But they are looking at their actions and not actually who they are . And when you look at who you are as a child of God , as a believer , with our natural children , like they are , they mess up all day long .

Speaker 1

They're imperfect . I love them , but they're imperfect .

Speaker 2

But they still come back to me . They still know oh , I'm still going to go to mommy for safety , If I need help , if I get a boo-boo for food , if I'm hungry . They go to mommy for everything . They never once think , oh , you know what ? I just hit my sister . I'm not going to go to mommy right now .

I'm hungry , but I can't get any food right now because I don't deserve any food , because I just hit my sister . I just did something wrong . They don't do that .

But I think sometimes as children of God , because we're all grown up , now we're men and women , now we think that we've done too much wrong , that we can't hear from God , that a holy God can't speak to us .

Speaker 1

Yeah , I don't know if they're even that deep to say a holy God can't speak to us . I just feel like they dump on themselves and they feel like , because of the way that I'm living , I'm not even going to go to God with this . But they don't understand that God wants to cover their mess .

There's a scripture that says that we enter into his throne of grace to ask what we have need of . We boldly enter in , and we don't boldly enter in because of our actions being perfect . We boldly enter in because we've been redeemed .

Our names are written in the book of life , that now , when God looks at us , he doesn't look at us as sinners and our mistakes and failures . He looks at us through the lens of the blood of Jesus . So now I am not . I want to live righteously and I want to live holy . But my righteous status does not change with my actions .

I am made righteous not because I always do righteous things . I'm made righteous because I've accepted Jesus . Now I'm the righteousness of God through and by Christ Jesus . So what I hear you saying is that we have to know who we are in him . If we know who we are in him , that we are the blood washed , blood bought , children of God , that doesn't change .

Now we can boldly enter into his throne of grace , no matter what season or action doesn't align to ask our father for help and to also hear his voice .

And I'm going to be honest with you I feel like we need to hear his voice more when we're in a mess than on a mountaintop , more when we're in the valley more than when we're going through and we're trying to figure it out and maybe we've made some mistakes .

That's when you need to hear God speak to you even the more , and so his voice is always there . Absolutely Any other reasons you feel people struggle , other than just like condemnation or just feeling they're not worthy .

Speaker 2

I think people , honestly , I think that people hear God's voice . Okay , I think a lot of times we hear God's voice . Even nonbelievers , I would argue , hear the voice of God , but they just don't know it's God's voice .

Okay , that conscious that , the voice of God , but they just don't know it's God's voice , that conscious that we have a God conscious God's put on the inside of every man , that know the difference between right and wrong . Why do you feel bad after you do something wrong ?

That's God on the inside of you , that's the creator who created you to know the difference between right and wrong , and so maybe it wasn't his audible voice , but it is direction . It is like okay , don't do that . That's what I would call the voice of God as well . And so I think that a lot of people hear from God , but they just don't know that .

They don't know His voice , they don't know how he speaks , they don't know how he speaks . So let's say , you do do something , you say something wrong and you hurt somebody's feelings , and now you feel remorse , you feel , you know you feel bad because you did that .

That could be a voice of God , the voice of right and wrong , saying go back , correct it , apologize say you're sorry .

Speaker 1

It's not just the voice . When people say the voice , they're thinking voice like we have voice not just the voice . When people say the voice , they're thinking voice like we have voice , and I've never personally heard the audible voice of God .

What I hear , more so is an inner witness , or an inner knowing , or the peace of God , or the direction of the Lord , or the nudge of God . And so so many times when we say the voice of God , they are defining it as voice , how you hear our voice . But that's not it , that inner knowing , like I shouldn't have done , that .

That could be the voice of God , or let's just call it the leading of God , absolutely .

Speaker 2

Knowing how God speaks . When you know how God speaks , he can speak through your emotions . He can speak through that . Witness that inner nudging . We hear stories of like at 9-11 , there were so many stories after story where people said , well , I just felt like I shouldn't go into work that day , I just felt like I needed to call off .

Well , that wasn't a feeling , that was God , that was God speaking through their emotions . Somehow , that was God speaking through them . And so I think that there are a lot of things like that that happen Sometimes .

If we're in services or something and something happens and you say , oh , I have goosebumps , you're so inspired and you're so moved , People don't understand that perhaps that's God , that's the Holy Spirit of God moving through your body . Like that is God speaking . There are times when that something told me . Something told me I needed to call you .

Speaker 1

Something has a name , and his name is the Holy Spirit .

Speaker 2

He him , holy Spirit , and so , as we're talking now , I know there are a lot of people listening and watching right now and they're saying you know what ? Yeah , because that happens to me all the time that's God speaking to you . So you can't say that God doesn't speak to you .

You just got to know how he speaks and when you figure out how now you're going to notice oh , that's .

Speaker 1

God and then you lean into it . Even when you're listening to a podcast or you're listening to a message or preacher preach , it's really not about what they're saying . It's about what is God saying to you inside of what they're saying .

It's always been amazing to me , after 20 plus years of ministry , that you can be in a meeting and one person would be like well , I just feel like I'm not growing , and another person will say that was the thing that I needed to hear , how I needed to hear . What was it ?

The same thing was being said , but one person got something out of it that the other person just couldn't get , meaning that one person's heart was open to how God was using the syllables to form spiritual revelation and the other person's heart wasn't open to that .

So it's less about how great your preacher is or how great the podcast is , and it's more about the placement and position of your heart to be able to receive what the say of the Lord in any setting , in any way , and that's why one of the things I always encourage people to do is that God can use he used the donkey to speak to people in the . Bible .

He can use a child . He can use somebody . I've seen people under a bridge to have great revelation . Now they don't know how to apply the revelation to get themselves out from under the bridge . But I really just believe that God can speak to anybody at any time if your heart's open to it , like he can use whatever he wants to use .

Speaker 2

Absolutely .

Speaker 1

But anyway , here's a scripture , john chapter 10 . Now listen to this one . It says but he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep . To him the doorkeeper opens and the sheep hear his voice and he calls his own sheep by name and he leads them out .

And when he brings out his own sheep he goes before them and the sheep follow him , for they know his voice . Yet they will by no means follow a stranger , but will flee from them , for they do not know the voice of a stranger . Anything else stick out to you that we haven't covered already , I think .

Speaker 2

No , it's really good , just the voice , that they will not follow a stranger's voice . I mean , you've spent so much time stranger danger , stranger danger . No , I'm not going to do that .

I think a lot of people don't hear from God , or they do hear from God , but they don't listen when they hear him , because they confuse his voice with another person's voice and they could think like I heard this , but you heard the voice of a stranger and you didn't recognize the stranger danger in it , and so you know we can talk about some of those things

, like you know . Well , how do you know ? How do you ?

Speaker 1

know . Well , tell me , how do you know ?

Speaker 2

I mean , I think , number one God's voice will never contradict his word .

Speaker 1

Okay .

Speaker 2

It will always line up with the word .

Speaker 1

All right .

Speaker 2

How do you know ? So , if I feel like Well , you're going through that one fast .

Hearing From God

Speaker 1

So if you hear something that contradicts the Bible , that's not God , right ? Okay , and you got to settle that because there have been people that just feel like , well , I just feel like the Lord is leading me to live . Leave my wife and marry someone else . Well , god hates divorce and there's no biblical out here .

Someone else Well , God hates divorce and there's no biblical out here . That's not God . It doesn't matter how you feel , it doesn't matter what you heard , whatever you heard . I can't explain it , but I just know God's word . His rhema won't contradict the logos , it will only confirm logos .

Okay , so the basics of our belief has to be number one the word of God , all right , give me another one , number one , the word of God .

Speaker 2

What were we talking about ? How do you know you're hearing from God ?

Speaker 1

Yeah , okay , I'm sorry . What can you do to kind of tune in to his voice ? I think that's what we were talking about .

Speaker 2

I think the other thing I was thinking about is just their safety in the multitude of counsel .

Speaker 1

Okay .

Speaker 2

Not the multitude of ungodly counselor or the multitude of your friends or coworkers . Not the multitude of your friends or coworkers .

Speaker 1

It's not the multitude of just people with an opinion that don't have any fruit .

Speaker 2

Everyone has an opinion , but listen .

Speaker 1

I've learned over the years . This is who you listen to People who have faithfulness and fruitfulness . Fruitfulness there's a lot of people that's been around for a long time but they have no fruit . That's not who you want to really listen to .

There's a lot of people who have fruit , who have fruit , but their fruit's going to be gone in six months because they don't have faithfulness . You're looking for people who has faithfulness and fruitfulness and the Bible says that , with good advice , make war and that there's safety in the multitude of counsel . That's godly .

Counsel people with faithfulness and fruitfulness . All right . So , good , and so anything else on that with the godly counsel piece , because I just feel like it's so important that we now this is what we can't do . We can't allow godly counsel to hear from God for us . This is huge , because many times we have a time of prayer .

People want to come down for other people to always hear from God on their behalf and really the counsel that you have should confirm things that God has already been speaking to you about . Every once in a while there's a prophetic direction or a creative word or something like that that just ain't came to your mind yet .

But I think the major thing that we have to teach people is to have a relationship where they feed themselves . Hear from God for yourself , all right . That doesn't mean that you don't need Sundays . There are people that say , well , I'm the church , I don't need to come to church . No , you need to come to church because of Hebrews 10 , 25 .

There's something that you get in church that you can't get at home . There's vision , there's . One can chase a thousand , two can put 10,000 to flight . You use your gifts to give back . You learn how to overcome offenses . But there's something that you can get at home that you can't get at church .

People are coming to church on Sundays to be fed and I'm trying to tell people you need to be feeding yourself Monday through Saturday . So when you come on Sunday . I'm already confirming that which you've already studied there are too many people that come to church on Sunday starving because they don't know how to feed themselves .

So you need time with God personally every day and you also need the church experience . You need the public gathering and you need the private time with God . And you put those two things together and you'll hear his voice a whole lot more .

Speaker 2

That's so good .

Speaker 1

Yeah , john 8 , 47 says he was of God . Hears God's words . Therefore , you do not hear because you're not of God . What do you take from ?

Speaker 2

that I take from that , you know , really to be a non-believer thing . You know people who are critical of the word , critical of the Bible , question the Bible , they say , well , jesus was just a prophet . Like you know those kinds of people who are very , you know , critical , I don't know .

I think that's for the non-believer , I think for the believer , we hear from God .

Speaker 1

Come on , come on . So what are some common reasons that people don't hear from God like they should ? Here's a few that I want to . I'll just throw out . We just don't recognize his voice . Anything else you want to add to that ?

Speaker 2

No , I think it's true Some of the things that we already said . You know , god is speaking , but sometimes we will , you know , just we pass it off like , oh , that's just a thought that I had and actually we need to lean into that . That was the Lord speaking .

Speaker 1

Here's another one . We just don't know how he speaks .

Speaker 2

How he speaks , meaning the goosebumps . You know the um the nudging , the nudging that witness that .

Speaker 1

I feel like I should do this right now . Here's another one . We just dismiss his voice when we hear it .

Speaker 2

You know it doesn't make sense . It doesn't make sense , you know so .

Speaker 1

if maybe that's just me .

Speaker 2

Yeah , that's just me . If the you know the Lord is telling you to maybe call someone on the phone . Call someone on the phone and just encourage them . And you know the God . God is just calling you to go and talk to someone or telling you to do it .

Feel like , oh and I've done this before like , oh , you know , I'll just pray , from whatever , I'll just talk to them when I see them . But then when I see them , I come to find out they were going through a hard moment that day and all of this stuff . And what a blessing and a confirmation that God was with them if I had called them in the moment .

But you just dismiss it like , well , that's just me , that's just the thought . Well , no , I believe you know that God is speaking to me all the time and I'm asking God , use me , god , speak to me , god , all of this stuff . So we just have to be very , very sensitive to the smallest inklings that that could be God .

And if I don't know if it's God or not , I'm leaning in more God . Is that you Right ?

Speaker 1

I'm reminded of the scripture that says for us to pray without ceasing . It doesn't say to talk without ceasing . It says to pray without ceasing , and so prayer is not a monologue . It's a dialogue . It's not just me talking to God , it's me being in an attitude posture where my ear gate is always open to what he's saying . There's a talking and a receiving .

So even now , as we do this podcast , I want to pray without ceasing . I want to hear from God of what he's telling me to say for the people that need to hear it , how he needs to hear it when I'm preaching . I want to pray without ceasing . I want to take my notes and I thank God for the preparation , because the Bible tells me to prepare .

It's my job to plan and God to direct my path . But sometimes we get too locked into our plan that we don't let him direct our path .

Great ministry and not just in the church world but in the secular arena , at your job , at your workplace , in the business world is not just when you have a plan , but when you allow God to direct your path with that plan , that you allow the still small voice of God to kind of direct things and correct things and to adjust things to bring you to a place

where you live a sensitive life to the Holy Spirit . And what I've learned about God , especially in the business world before we were pastors , is that God loves to get involved with your investments and your business decisions .

Years before we were pastors we were real estate brokers outside of Washington DC and we would invest in properties and fix them up and flip them . And I remember just sitting downstairs we had like a three-level townhome . I was on the bottom level and the Lord says get on to the MLS system , which is the real estate where all the houses are listed .

And I got on there and he says go to a certain city . And I went over to Woodbridge , virginia , and the Lord says buy this house . I never seen the house , I don't know what was in the house . I bought the house sight unseen , sent them over a contract because the market was so fast . I didn't have a lot of time to do homework .

I had to hear from God , know it was his voice and then move on that . And then I ended up making about $40,000 within three months just because I heard God . And so I just think that God doesn't want to just be in a box of your church world . He wants to direct you when it comes to praying for other people .

He wants to direct you in the grocery store . He wants to direct you when it comes to how you parent your kids . He wants to direct you something on your spirit , to be like . One of my kids are going through something right now . What is it ? Are they being bullied ? Hey , is everything going okay ? All right ? Tell me about your friends .

Who's your best friend ? Okay , what's going really good in your life right now ? What is the greatest challenge that you're having ? And it's like if you really live a life where you're walking with God in every single moment and you don't put him in . Well , I had my first 15 . Well , what does the first 15 got to do with everything ?

The first 15 , or your daily morning devotion time , is good for focus , but when you step out of your first 15 , god wants to move with you through every walk of your day . Now , right now , he's moving with Tabitha . When it comes to traffic , he's working with her as she's driving .

Praise God , he's speaking to her about loving the precious people that don't drive in the same way that you can't tell people anything .

Speaker 2

I'm telling you because they just take it and use it against you .

Speaker 1

But the Holy Spirit wants to move with you . So this is relationship , this is prayer without ceasing . This is I'm talking , and he's talking to me right now as we're driving , as we're taking a shower , as we're fixing food , as we're talking to our kids . That's when this Christianity stuff gets fun to me .

And you know , what I love about God Is that he gives you witty ideas and inventions . He wants to download things to make us smarter than what we really are . There's a problem at work . He wants to give you the answer so that you can be promoted for the wealth of the wicked is laid up for the just . He wants to put you into prominent positions .

He wants to promote and put you into places , as long as your character can handle it . Our God is a God of promotion . He loves to speak things to us , answers that the world does not have . He's just looking for a people that's tuned into his voice and looking to him as a source . Do you believe that Absolutely ? I mean absolutely .

I believe it with all my heart .

Speaker 2

It's that daily conversation with God and it's like you know , you'll never be alone . He said I will never leave you or forsake you . And I think that sometimes we look for God only in the big things , only in the things that we think is important enough for God to spend time with God . But I look , I mean I speak to God all day long and I want to .

It's not that I'm perfect , but it's like I just love for the Holy Spirit to be with me and kind of be a friend with me . You know , um , yesterday I went , I took a trip to Ikea and I had these big , um huge bookshelves that I was , you know , getting from Ikea and they're supposed to be people to help you and stuff .

There was nobody there to help , but I've been there . I was in a hurry , I was going , I knew specifically what I wanted to get . You can get lost in Ikea , okay , and so I went there , but , like the Lord was with me , I was having conversation Okay , should I get this one or this one ?

Well , if I get this one and this will happen and this will happen and I'm like , oh , I didn't take the measurements . So I was just kind of like having these conversations with the Lord the whole time . I get , I buy all my stuff and then I get to my car , right , and I've just gotten a new car .

I had an old , an Exxon , an XL Denali , for years , because we have three kids and we need all this space in our car . Well , now I don't have that anymore and I had a smaller car . I get to the car and I look at these big , long packages and I'm looking at my car and I look at my package and I look at my car and I start to talk to the Lord .

I'm like , lord , am I going to be able to fit this in my car ? And I just felt like Holy Spirit was almost like a friend , like come on , you got this , you could do it . It was like this nudging , like OK , ok , I can do it , I can do it , I think I can fit it .

All right , get in here me , like you do these things , and I fit that in the car . I mean it

Five Keys to Hearing God's Voice

was no problem . And listen , I left and pulled off my car . As I was pulling out , I was watching some other ladies that were there before I got there , two of them trying to fit their stuff in their car , and as I was leaving I was thinking , oh , maybe I should help them . But you know , I didn't . I left .

Speaker 1

I thought she was going to go really good and I jumped out and I helped them and led them to the . Lord and they got healed . It was just like one of those thoughts .

Speaker 2

that was probably the Lord too , and I didn't even listen because I could have very well helped and I didn't listen .

Speaker 1

We listen in sometimes , maybe not in others , not saying that that was the case . Exactly , exactly .

Speaker 2

But the point was this is something as crazy as me getting packages into my car by myself . I mean , this is like 30 pound oblong , like big , huge things . I'm like picking . I could just feel like the Holy Spirit like , come on , you got this girl , don't drop it , don't drop it , don't drop it .

But I mean like , and I did it and it felt so good and it was so fun , but that's so , it's just every day . He wants to be with you when you're washing clothes . He wants to be with you when you're reading stories to your children .

Speaker 1

He wants to be with you when you're at work and in this hard situation he wants to be with you when you're all alone and you're dealing with loneliness or you're battling an addiction , or you have a loved one that's in the hospital and the doctors don't know what to do , and the Holy Spirit will actually give you wisdom .

You ain't go to medical school and you know something that the doctors don't know . That's because you have a relationship with a sovereign God , that is Elohim , that knows everything , tomorrow , today , and we just have to keep that access open .

And it kind of leads me to the five keys to hearing God's voice , and I believe that you've stuck around for this moment . If you're taking notes , these are the five keys and just jump , I'm going to go through all of them . Here's five keys that we've learned over the years .

This is not all of them , but this is like the ones that we have for you today . That we think is going to move you to his voice , and that's my prayer for you is that his voice will become louder and more potent and more distinguished for you , that you will , from this day forward , just sense the presence of the Holy Spirit .

You know , the father and the son of the triune nature of God is in heaven , but the Holy Spirit , part of God , is the God with us in the earth , and the Bible says that he wants to lead us into all knowledge and all understanding . The Bible calls him a parakletos , which in the Greek means that he is a comforter .

So he is there to comfort , he's there to lead , he is there to guide . But the question is , we have to live a life that we're allowing ourself to be comforted and led by him . So here's five keys to hearing from God , or hearing God's voice . Number one is desire . Okay , you have to have a desire , you have to want this .

You've had a desire for things before . Some of you all had a desire for your spouse . That's why you got married . You tracked her down , you stalked her . I mean , you tracked her down and you got what you wanted . If you had a desire to go get your master's degree , some of you all have a desire .

That is , this hunger and this passion that you put into something to go after what you want , do you ?

Speaker 2

want God that way . I think those are the people listening to this podcast right now . That's why they're listening .

Speaker 1

They have a desire to know God more in every area .

Speaker 2

Yeah , You're just like let's do this .

Speaker 1

They ride or die . Let's go Jesus . Anything else , though , any examples that you have about your desire , has that been a big deal for you to have a desire to hear the voice of God ? Let me just say I've lived with this woman for a long time . She desires God , desires God's voice and things .

In a way , I jumped in the car I think it was yesterday and was going to a track meet . She's listening to stuff . I mean , she listens to stuff that's like it's so deep . She listens to stuff that's so spiritual , it's so prophetic and deep .

Speaker 2

I can't help it and it's not that I have a problem with it .

Speaker 1

I'm deep , I'm prophetic as well , but it's like , oh my God , we're just traveling and it's so heavy .

Speaker 2

It's normal to me .

Speaker 1

Right , but this is what I've learned is that you have a desire for deeper things of God .

I would rather you have that desire where you go after God , instead of having that slothful mentality where you're just this religious person and you want everything to kind of just come to you and you just sit there and just wait on the Lord , and the Lord's been waiting on you . So I don't know , is there anything else you want to add ?

To just desire his voice , desire it . This ain't weird what we're talking about today . This is like one of the major keys for the believer .

Speaker 2

I think personally . The Bible says that God gives you the desires of your heart . I think he wants you to desire him and he will give you all of him as you do that .

Speaker 1

I got some decisions right now that are multi-million dollar decisions , and I desire his leading . I desire not to jack this stuff up and make a wrong decision or wrong investments . I desire his leading Matter of fact . There's something right now that we've been negotiating that I've pulled back completely because I just don't hear a yes .

My team just doesn't hear a yes .

Speaker 2

We desire his voice All right .

Speaker 1

Number two is invitation . Five keys to hearing God's voice is . Invitation is number two . That means that we invite him into our everyday life , and I think that's what we've been talking about . So we invite him into our parenting . We invite him into our cleaning of our house , excuse me . We invite him into cooking food for our family .

We invite him into podcast recording . We invite him into our sex life . As a married couple , I don't have areas of my life where I'm like God , you're locked out when it comes to my finances . I invite you in . Show me what I need to do . I'm inviting you in , and what I found out about the Holy Spirit is that he's a perfect gentleman .

He will not bust down the doors of your heart and demand you to do things his way . He wants to be invited , yeah .

Speaker 2

I do . And when we invite Jesus into our heart , we invite him as Lord . He into our heart we invite Him as Lord . He wants to be Lord , master , ruler of every area of our lives . I thought it was interesting that you said sex lives . I think , some people never would think like what , oh my gosh .

No , but he's Lord over everything and I think with that invitation , I think we have to understand as well a little bit that God wants to be involved in every area . And so I think sometimes we wait for God and we only ask him in the big things . But it's

How to Hear God's Voice

in the big things . When there's a sickness , when there's trouble in your marriage , when something crazy is going down that you can't . It's like oh my gosh , right then it's not time to , you can't make any decisions right there If you're not already looking , you know and prepared for God .

That's why we have fire drills , you know , because you don't want to wait until there's an emergency . And now there's a big fire , you don't know where to go , you're freaking out , you know like you're emotionally , you don't know what to do . And I think we do that with God . We wait until we get in this terrible situation . We're like God , I need you .

We don't know how to hear from God , we don't know how to pray , we don't know the word , and at that point it's probably not too late . But man , it's really hard to hear from God at that point . But if you can start hearing from God as you're driving .

Speaker 1

And the small things .

Speaker 2

And the small things , and sometimes we don't invite God into the things . Like you know , if I'm cooking dinner , I got this . You know , sometimes I got this . God , I'm good , you know , I know how to hook this up . I got this and it's like no , you don't you about to burn it ?

God will tell you to have just throw a little bit of sugar on that right there and it will blow you up you know it will blow your mind .

Speaker 1

He'll give you cookbooks If you let God into every area . I think you do have to have faith . Now I want to do a whole teaching coming soon on faith . Faith is . There's three components of faith believing , speaking and acting . So to be in real Bible faith , you need to be able to speak it .

Even though you don't see it , you need to believe it and you need to act like it . So I would also define faith as acting on what you believe . It's not just believing , that's easy . Well , I believe that I'm going to be healed . Well , you got to act like you're healed . I believe that I'm free of depression . Act like you have the joy of the Lord .

It is not just believing , it is acting on what you believe and out of the abundance of the heart , the mouth speaks . So there is believing , speaking and also acting . So Bible faith is also defined as confidence . It's confidence in the word of God . So , when it comes to hearing the voice of God , it's you having confidence that you can hear him .

You have to have a belief . Now , I've learned over the years that belief is a choice . People say I don't believe . Well , that's your choice . You've chosen not to believe . Wow , I choose to believe . That's your choice . You've chosen not to believe . Wow , I choose to believe . That's an act of your will . I set my will to believe in God .

You've set your will to not believe in God . So I choose to believe . When it comes to hearing from God , you have to say Okay , the Bible tells me . What was that one scripture ? Let me read it to you again he who is of God hears God's words . Therefore , you do not hear because you're not of God . Translation we're supposed to hear from God .

It's an expectation . I put my faith in that . That means I hear from God all the time . That's the way I'm going to believe , that's the way I'm going to speak , that's the way I'm going to act , not in an arrogant way to where I'm not willing to check what I believe I've heard with the word of God and godly counsel .

But I need you guys to divorce yourself from this thought that you don't hear from God , and I need you to start to believe , speak and act like you hear from God all the time . He's your best friend , he is your father , he speaks . You're listening and you receive that promise by faith . A stranger's voice . I won't follow Absolutely Anything else on that .

Number four . The fourth key to hearing God's voice would be study , because the more you study the word of God , the more you will be fine tuned to his voice . And so I learned this years ago that if you want to hear the voice of God , study the word of God , because the word of God will actually tune the way that you hear the voice of .

Speaker 2

God .

Speaker 1

When you study the Logos word of God . It fine tunes your ability to hear from God . You will become a lot more accurate in what's God the devil in you . When you spend more time hiding God's word in your heart , it's almost like the more you spend God the devil and you .

When you spend more time hiding God's word in your heart , it's almost like the more you spend time with the word . When you hear words it's not in line with his word , you'll be like I don't know about that one . There's just something about studying the Bible that helps you hear from God .

Speaker 2

Yeah , you know his voice , like I mean , you wrote a book , um , and when I read your book , I hear your voice , I hear your thoughts . It's almost like I can hear your voice in my head as I'm reading . And it's the same way . When we read the Word of God , we will begin to hear God's voice .

We'll begin to hear his tone , what he likes and what he doesn't like , his rhythms and how he speaks . You get that from the Word of God .

Speaker 1

So good , so good . But here's my fifth one . This is the fifth key to hearing God's voice and its sensitivity . So number one was desire , number two is invitation , number three is faith , number four is study and number five is sensitivity .

And so , to hear the voice of God , you have to begin to limit the things that distract and focus on the things that build you up . Okay , you know , excuse me , I feel like I have something in my eye , but it's okay , we're gonna keep rocking . Remember the time where it wasn't at the prophet Elijah , where it talks about ?

The voice of God wasn't in the whirlwind and it wasn't in the fire . It was like , and it was the still small voice of God he heard . The still small voice of God wasn't in the whirlwind and it wasn't in the fire . It was like , and it was the still small voice of God . He heard the still small voice of God . You know what I'm talking about .

I'm mixing the story up Y'all . Look at it later on .

Speaker 2

For some reason , I'm confused right now too , but I know what . I know the scripture that you're referencing , yeah , yeah yeah , don't worry about the scripture .

Speaker 1

The principle was that it was the still small voice of God . It wasn't the big thing , it wasn't in the big thing that you would think there . It was in the still small voice , if we can get used to the still small voice . I'm talking about the whisper of God , the nudge of God , the impression from God .

You know what I'm saying , but that takes a life of sensitivity .

Speaker 2

It does .

Speaker 1

So the world that we live in is so filled with distractions . If you were to really look at how much time you spend your screen time or how much time you spend on social media , like right now , if I have Instagram on my phone , I can open it up out of my subconscious and then 15 minutes can go away just like that .

And if we're not careful we can be so distracted with the emails , the text , the social medias , the notification . All of these demands that we miss the still small voice , we miss the small things that he's trying to whisper to us . Hey , call so-and-so , check in on so-and-so . Think about this , what about this over here ?

And I think it's something about living a life of sensitivity , where the still small voice of God isn't so still and small . It's a little bit louder to us than it is to the next person ?

Speaker 2

Yeah , definitely , and it's so distracting because there are so many things that are loud . And when you think about the things in the world today that are loud , you know , especially sin , especially things that are designed to distract you and take you off of the path of God .

Those things are loud and sometimes , if we can just learn to ignore those loud things , it's like the sky is falling . The sky is falling like there's always an emergency somewhere , something's always going on , and those can really distract you from hearing God's voice .

Speaker 1

Things you can do to really hear the still small voice of God is fast and pray . That's one way you can do natural things like grounding yourself . I know that you take your shoes off and just go outside , sit in a chair , put your feet in the grass , kind of ground yourself .

A mindfulness where you just not in an Eastern meditation way where they empty their mind more , filling your mind up with the thoughts of God which is biblical meditation , quietness , I think , getting back to the discipline of quietness , can we have a place in our home that's a God place ?

Can we spend time with God where we limit distractions , we turn off our phones ? Can we get good at Sabbath ? Not by ? the law , meaning that if you got to handle something , handle it .

But I'm saying that you have portions of time an hour in the morning , two hours on this day , a half day with God where you can just sit with a journal and you can just feel the wind .

Many times I'll go outside in a park and I'll just listen for the birds , I'll just look to the sky and I'll practice mindfulness and like calm things and it's amazing that when you limit all of these other distractions , you can actually feel God more and hear God more .

Speaker 2

Oh , absolutely , so there's something just the sensitivity . One thing that the Lord has been dealing with me lately is that word quiet that you said .

I found that I was just like , if I sit down in my quiet time , even with the Lord , I either you know I need to sit , I'm going to read a book , or I'm going to put on , I'm going to listen to something , or I'm going to write , like I was just doing something .

But in all of that doing something , sometimes it's just noisy , it's like there's always something going on in my brain and I just felt the Lord saying just sit , still be quiet . And , interesting enough , I was at the park when the Lord was telling me this there's this little bench . You know where it is .

We go to the same park , but there's this little bench and there's just bushes and there's trails all around and all this stuff . And as I was sitting there , it was just like everything else became so real to me , literally , literally .

A butterfly came down and sat on a flower next to me I'm looking at the butterfly and a bird came and sat on the fence next to me . I felt like I was in a fairytale or something and I could literally feel the wind blow , you feel the rays of sun , you hear all of the sounds of nature and I'm telling you , god speaks in all of that .

But sometimes we have to be intentional about being quiet , instilling ourselves and saying Lord , what instruction do you have to me ? What do you want to say to me today ? Yeah , yeah .

Speaker 1

Well , we pray that you guys take these five keys and you really apply them to your life , and we pray over you in the name of Jesus . That the voice of God will become more real to you than it ever has been . That we just prophesied that there was a light switch that's been turned off for some of you all .

That God is flipping it on by the power of his spirit . That the things that you didn't understand on yesterday you're going to understand better today and going into your future . That you will be able to lock into the still small voice of God . That God will give you now a supernatural grace to limit the distractions in your life .

Not that you're not a boss , not that you aren't a busy person and have responsibilities , but now you'll be able to order your steps in a way where you can put God at the top of your responsibilities , and he's going to help you with everything else . And so we just pray and please share your testimony with us . We love if this has been good to you .

It's kind of a 12-week process that we're calling the Online Better Marriage Bootcamp . The premise is so simple that we believe that , no matter where you are in your marriage , that it can get better . Some of you all have a really bad marriage . It can get better . Some of you all have a really bad marriage it can get better .

Some of you all have a great marriage . It can get better . We've been married for 25 years almost and I'm telling you now it can get better . But to have a great marriage requires a great investment . Many times people want sweetheart something for nothing .

They actually want God's best , but they're not willing to sow a seed for that harvest , and so what we've decided to do is take our 25 years of marriage our ups , our downs , our losses and also our victories and put them into a 12-step process so that you can learn all of the things that you need to know to have a better marriage .

In our research we found out through marriage counseling the average marriage counseling costs between $100 to $400 per session or per hour . And what we found out in marriage counseling is that 70% of the people who go through marriage counseling they get better , but 30% of the people don't work out .

Sometimes , when I go to marriage counseling or go to counseling and we believe in counseling I go in there and I spend a portion of my time just kind of catching up .

We wanted something that would be more cost effective , it would be more potent , it would be more focused and you could actually track with us on demand the kind of masterclasses and the information that we're releasing .

For the most part , our studies show us that it's been between $700 to $1,200 for information like this , and so we've decided we wanted to make it as affordable as we possibly could , but still understanding the value of it , and we've made it $395 .

And so if you want to sign up for our Better Marriage Boot Camp , there will be some information in our link below . You can go to KenandTabithacom be some information in our link below . Your marriage is going to get better , and even if you have a spouse that won't go through with you , maybe you need to be the hero in the home . You go through it by faith on their behalf , and I believe that God's going to honor your faith .

He's going to honor your investment , and so we simply want to give you the tools that's needed so that you can have God's best .

Speaker 2

Absolutely . You know , I think that there are some people who are going to get this marriage boot camp and they're going to become marriage experts . You don't have to you know , your marriage doesn't have to be horrible to get this boot camp .

As you were speaking , I'm telling you there are some people watching now and their marriage is okay , but their marriage is . They're going to become experts in marriage . But here's your assignment you have to take what you've learned and then teach it to someone else .

You got to get small groups , you got to get your coworkers , you got to get people out there and tell them what you've learned so that their marriage can be blessed as well . This is good stuff .

Speaker 1

Marriages and families are under attack because Satan hates marriages . He hates marriages because they are the foundation of healthy nations , cities and communities , and we've declared war on divorce , separation and sucky marriages . We believe they all can be better , no matter who you are and where you are .
