Today in Leviticus 13 we read extensively the rules pertaining to skin diseases and infected fabrics and surfaces.
It seems the priests acted as health providers, and applied the rules that God had revealed for the health and safety of the Israelites. We see separation from the community for health purposes in certain circumstances.
