Today, I'm going to go through a few scenarios that I have picked up from having clients discuss with me some of their struggle. So, taking on the world problem today is what we're all about. Actually no. But wouldn’t you like a magical solution? Well, I'm not going to propose a magical solution. But I am going to come up with three simple steps to make a shift. Now I know we've been hearing about mindset work and mindfulness quite a bit out there in the media. But, let's just keep it to three simple steps today.
When we're dealing with anxiety, or a struggle or a problem, there's actually a space…now that's where the magic lies. There's a space between our experience and our reaction. So, researcher Victor Frey states that between stimulus and response, there is a space. And Steven Covey goes on to take it a step further and he says, in that space lies our freedom. Our power to choose our response. I know, easier said than done. And there lies our growth and our happiness. Because we've all heard that we're given these problems in our life so that we can learn our lesson. So, let's just try to learn our lesson faster, in my opinion. Mark Twain had like, more like a blunter statement, when he said, insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting much different result. Yeah. So, we what might not be able to change the situation or the problem, but we can find that space before our reaction, or even as we’re reacting, we can make a shift. So, mindset work and mindfulness. I, they talked about that space, too. But let's just talk about that space as being magical today. And we're going to use three steps. A S A. We're going to Acknowledge what you think. We're going to S would be Shift what you were thinking and how you're going to react. And then three, we are going to Act differently, hopefully, more positive. So, three steps, acknowledge shift action, acknowledge shift action, and that's how we want to flip the script. You've probably heard that saying.
One of our concerns that we have to work around is our brain carves out a trap like the neural pathway and it makes change kind of an object Fear because that change does not want to follow that path. But if we can flip the script from negative to positive, or we can take that magical phase, then we can start to get the brain used to changing. Now, one other thing we need to consider is, it does take 20 to 90 days for the unfamiliar, or change, even if it's good change, to become familiar. So, it becomes easier and easier to follow those three steps A S A - acknowledge, shift. And so, let's try it on some client scenario. Hey, um, maybe you'll resonate with some of these, and if not just kind of think of your own scenario or recent struggle, and see if you can apply some of the information.
So, this person is giving away energy getting depleted, putting others ahead of herself, not realizing when enough is enough. Saying yes, not knowing when to say no, you kind of get the picture. And so, when we acknowledge that that's what's happening, then we need to shift what's happening, and then we need to find an action. Now, in this particular case, I did demonstrate the giving away of energy, what does that feel like? Let's just, you know, throw our energy at a plant or something that's across the room. And know what that feels like to be throwing your energy. Some of you might be throwing your energy at a situation you can't control at work. Some of you might be throwing your energy at a problem. A child is having a problem, and it's their problem, but you're throwing your energy at it. So, we need to acknowledge when the energy is going away from us. And then we need to feel what it's like to pull to take that envision that plant giving us back that energy. What does that energy feel like when your centered and shifted? So, in that space, when they feel that the energy is being thrown away, they bring their energy back into themselves, and then find a centering action. And a centering action might be as easy as just a nice clear affirmation, that that is not mine, it does not serve me. Some people need more of a shift. Maybe you want to use energy therapy. And you know, just put the palms of your fingers in one side of your shoulder and then cross it and then your palm, fingers on the other side and then cross and start to just center your energy in, and kind of maybe even form roots. Pretend roots into the earth. So, they acknowledge throwing out the energy, shifted it, and then now are acting different. That really have to take that pause and shift it.
So, here's another example that actually has similar feeling. Taking something like chronic stress, juggling work, home, children, spouse. Really loving them all, but not really having time for self. So, acknowledging it, acknowledging that this is busyness, this is what overwhelm feels like. Shifting. So, if we shift it, um, there's a thing called tapping that I sometimes use for shifting and argumentative tapping would work really well right here. So, this is another example of something you can do, something that would be acting differently. The setup statement, we use the tapping points on the outside of the finger, you can look up tapping. There are quite a few people that have books out. I have some things on my Facebook page that you can look at it and tapping.
So, we’ll acknowledge the situation that although I love my work, my children, my home, I am feeling overwhelmed. I no longer want to feel this way. I want the overwhelm to release. I can feel overwhelm in my stomach, I can feel overwhelm in my heart area, kind of a fluttering. I can feel overwhelm in a tightness in my throat, and overwhelm in the slumping of my shoulders. I need to release this overwhelm because I respect myself and know that I am greatly loved. You can continue, you can even argue it, you can say, you know, child number two thinks that I'm not paying enough attention to them. And I really am going to carve out some time for him. But I still feel that in my shoulders, and in my neck. All the things I have to do at work are starting to multiply. And although I really love my work, I am feeling overwhelmed. But I know that I respect myself and I am greatly loved. There are several videos of where to tap and the examples of why you would want to do tapping. It combines the acupuncture points, as well as the emotional as well as the physical. So, it’s EFT tapping.
What about another scenario? A case where someone might be looking for validation outside of themselves. Maybe they think that burnout is a prerequisite for success, and they're just really not aligned. Sometimes this all is wrapped up with the inability to delegate, like feeling that you are the only one, I'm the only one that can do this. So, first of all, we need to acknowledge that feeling, that feeling of not feeling good enough. Acknowledge that we are flying all the time. We're really not on this earth plane, we're not enjoying everything in life. We could actually shift by our location, instead of being at work all the time, we could try to get outdoors, find some action. You can probably tell just in your opinion, they probably need more joy, more laughter, more basic enjoyment, maybe connecting to the earth. And in this case, I would recommend grounding. And there is…I do have a grounding video out that I would recommend. But in the previous cases, we were centering, and we were really changing the emotional and the physical reaction. And we could rate, you know, we could rate those feelings on a scale of zero to 10. And, and really work on those. But this is just a quick example of the three basic steps where we acknowledge what's going on, we shift or flip the script, and then we take action.
Now some people just try to change to a more positive approach. And then there isn't an action. So, if you can find an action that is really great. Taking a walk, taking a hot water salt bath, doing the tapping like I mentioned, if you're interested in that you can look that up. Doing a form of meditation. I also have a video on multiple ways to meditate and why. So, if you desire more examples, or if you have your own particular struggle and you want to work with me on acknowledging it, shifting it and finding an action, and someone to hold you accountable for 20 to 90 days, then I'm your gal. So, book a connection call where we can talk about that one on one, or just playing start. Take that pause, remember between our reaction and what we're experiencing. There's that magical pause, and acknowledge it. And then shift the thought and finally, action. And blessings your way.
