Episode description

Led by a creative duo who met at La Cambre, a visual arts school in Brussels, Franco-Belgian fashion label Ester Manas is fighting a double battle to make the fashion industry more inclusive and less harmful to the environment.

When an item is presented as “one size fits all”, do you find it hard to believe that it’ll suit anyone beyond a size 8? You’re probably right. Tired of not seeing bodies like hers cared for or even represented in the fashion world, French designer Ester Manas decided a few years ago to launch her own clothing brand with Balthazar Delepierre, whom she met during her time in school. The idea: dresses, skirts, tops and coats that are truly inclusive of all bodies since they manage, thanks to an ingenious use of stretchy materials, laces and buttonholes, to dress women ranging from 0 to a 20, without having to make any size distinctions. A victory for customers as well as the environment: when items of clothing can accompany variations in weight so easily, or even be swapped between friends with different body types, then they no longer need to be purchased in triplicate.
