Episode 10, kissing the planet better , with Nicolas Gerlier.
Episode description
With La bouche rouge, his brand of “clean” and plastic-free luxury cosmetics, Nicolas Gerlier hopes to prove to the world that makeup doesn’t have to be bad for the environment.
Among the dozens of lipsticks lying around in your drawers, how many are formulated without any microplastics, silicones, or petrochemical derivatives? Of those, how many have been moulded in something other than an unrecyclable tube of plastic? None, according to Nicolas Gerlier. In 2016, this former L’Oréal executive decided to launch La bouche rouge, a range of natural lip products that are made in France and held in rechargeable metal tubes and leather cases. Five years later, the brand has grown a lot bigger and now also offers mascara wands made out of natural fibres, held in recycled and recyclable glass tubes, and even highlighters using sustainably sourced mother-of-pearl. The end goal? To replace the idea of “green beauty” (“clean for you”) with “blue beauty”: “clean for you and for the planet”.
