Ladies and gentlemen, we are now at the greatest university to ever be established in these United States of America. The Bust and Spring Tour has been brought to ann Arbor, Michigan, the University of Michigan, the winningest program of all time. And furthermore, we're not only at the best university, we're also with and sponsored and presented by the best, most amazing vehicle you could ever hope to own for an

actual affordable price, and that is the Chevy Servarada. Let's just give it up for Chevy.

Speaker 2

Real quick.

Speaker 1

Out. Our guest today is Cad McNamara. Did I say that, correct? Because that was a little tough for me. That was a little tough. So number one player out of Nevada, the boy had some nice offers USC, Alabama, Georgia, some places that are usually going into the national championship. And when you came here that not a whole lot of that was happening. But before that, you were recruited to, you were committed to Notre Dame.

Speaker 2

Correct.

Speaker 1

What was the change there? What happened?

Speaker 3

Well, you know, I committed pretty early. I committed after my sophomore year and I got recruited by Tommy Reese who's there still now, and I thought he was super dope, just really relatable and really.

Speaker 2

Basically some some stuff.

Speaker 3

Happened basically over the course of the year, like well, first off, I never had Brian Kelly's number, yeah, and me and him, like we just never had a relationship. And then started just watching how the whole season went down with them, and and I just really wasn't like in my future there. So then I started exploring some other options, and basically I came down to USC, Michigan, and Alabama, and I mean I threw BAM in there just because, like I mean, throw Obama in there.

Speaker 1

Yeah, no doubt your top three schools. Bama's in there there. It's already to know Bama's in mind too.

Speaker 4

Did they offer, no, but they're in there.

Speaker 3

So so I visited. I visited all three in one week. And so USC was actually my dream school growing up being from Nevada. It was kind of weird, but I just always loved Pete Carroll, loved Mark Sanchez, like these dudes yeah at SC and there's actually super sick because after the Wisconsin game this year, we're all celebrating our asses off on the field and I'm just and we're just over there by the Fox booth and I'm just wapping up Liner and Reggie Bush.

Speaker 2

I'm like, this is fucking sick.

Speaker 4

No one used to watch their highlight tame exactly, remember one high.

Speaker 1

Highlight And Buddy from West Virginia too was another one.

Speaker 2

What was his name? Oh my gosh, that dude.

Speaker 1

Was a fucking stud, absolute studs stuff.

Speaker 3

So long story short, I visit both all three schools and once like every single time I go, like you know, like it's like there's like a script like every single time we go, and you basically have to meet with the head coach, but there's an appointment. You can only meet with him at this certain time of the day and all this stuff.

Speaker 2

And then I came here.

Speaker 3

I walked in through that door right there, and the first person I saw was coach Arba at the end of the hallway and he was like, kude, And I was like shit, I mean that's coach reacted.

Speaker 1

Because like being a recruit, you know, like trying to be all buttoned out for a coach. Kade Taylor Will You're kind of like, fuck, yeah, we did, Like you got nervous.

Speaker 3

No, definitely nervous, because I mean, I mean being in Nevada, like so close to San Fran. I mean, my parents grew up in San Fran, so they always knew, you know, huge fans of the forty nine ers and everything growing up. So like, I mean, I've known coach Harbaugh for or seen him on TV for such a long time, right, and then so really within the first ten minutes, we just started breaking down my highlight reel.

Speaker 2

And then that's when I was like, this.

Speaker 3

Is oh he was stroking there and they have the whole staff called in Shay, who was starting at the time. Yeah, I was like, I mean I'm getting buttered up right now.

Speaker 4

How good of a recruiter is coach Arbo because everyone he sees all the antics or everyone hears about them in like the mainstream media stuff.

Speaker 5

But what's it like getting recruited by him?

Speaker 1

He's wild?

Speaker 3

Yeah, I mean he stayed at kids houses before. I mean, but I think that's like, what's sick about getting recruited by him is that like you're kind of waiting for something crazy to happen. And what's sick is that it's just so genuine, like he actually like cares so much that he like like he wants to do that stuff and like for my home visit, Like he was just adamant about getting a haircut. It's like we just went and got cuts together.

Speaker 1

Was your hair fucked up here or something? I just got a super cuts. You take you somewhere nice?

Speaker 3

No, we took her somewhere, took him to somewhere that like we're buddies with but but still it's like just something random.

Speaker 2

And then that's just how it is with him.

Speaker 4

Did he wear cleats in your house? No, there's a story that he wore cleats in somebody. Yeah, I've heard that in the sleeping over thing too. Might have been Isiah Wilson. Wasn't his biggest bus in Tennessee.

Speaker 1

Tit's history is that you're talking about. Yeah, A J. Brown wore cleats.

Speaker 4

Mom didn't like it.

Speaker 1

AJ like that though, a J. So those you didn't hear because Jacksons have a mic. I guess Harball came to a J's house with his cleats on. His mom got pissed and he wouldn't take him off. So a J was out, Hey, Harball, you could have had a J. Brown just take the boys off were some nice socks under it, like some identical boys that go with the cleats, you take them off with the exact.

Speaker 2

Same that would actually be that'd be fire. Right.

Speaker 1

So you get here your freshman year, Like, what was that freshman year like? Because like my first time, my most and this is gonna sound really off, but like my most memorable, like first moment at Michigan was right after the first workout, and dude, you're like getting in the showers for the first time, like and I'm like, you know, we.

Speaker 4

Never shower till you get to college, wear dirty clothes, your alignment coming around, putting their foot up on your locker.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I get a little knut, a little knuckle hanging out. Dude, I go, I go to the shower and I'm like sitting there, I have like my my big my Johnny grays on, you know big Johnny those gray shorts on. They still do him here. I had those on im like rinsing off with like the with a shower shorts on for the man who has but still.

Speaker 2

A tough one, you know, tough freshman freshman. They know you're probably.

Speaker 4

When you look at him now like freshman coming you're like, oh, poor guy has no clue, no clue, take that ship off.

Speaker 1

So they start yelling at me, and then there's like a chant going on. I take it off, and I'm like slowly pulling my under Like what am I doing?

Speaker 4

Dude?

Speaker 1

It was the weirdest situation. Weird bro. But anyway, guys something like that.

Speaker 4

I mean.

Speaker 3

Low key maybe, but I mean like tell us about it, so now.

Speaker 2

About it.

Speaker 1

Give us a little imagination.

Speaker 2

Dude.

Speaker 1

It's on a little journey.

Speaker 3

So I don't know if this was around when you were here, but there's a rule that you can't go past like the middle, the middle faucet if you're a freshman. So like I just walked in and like some of the showers are like I mean some of them. I mean, you're you always want the one with the strongest water. And then so I like I went to the I went to the wrong side. You get that, Yeah, I went to the wrong side of the shower. And then I just have like all the senior old linemen just in my little.

Speaker 1

Talking about.

Speaker 2

You know, there's dividers.

Speaker 3

So it's like completely just like cheeks out the colon. No, So like all these dudes just like come in and like pause, but.

Speaker 4

All these are inside your cuby.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 4

Yeah.

Speaker 3

So they've just come walking in and I'm just like, oh my, this is like this is like your worst nightmare, right, just like and all these dudes are just coming in knuckles bro off of white dudes, and I'm like, oh my gosh. And then so they all just started basically doing this to me, like like literally like surround trying to surround me like a yeah, yeah yeah, and I'm just like, oh, dude, I'm out of here. Like I actually ended up not showering.

Speaker 4

They surrounded you there on this side, and then I was like ship, like how Like I didn't know this?

Speaker 2

And then I walk over to the other side and then it's.

Speaker 3

Like, well, they're following me there and they're naked, and then they're like coming to hug me, and I'm like, oh no, but that's what makes them funny though. Yeah, if you don't like show a little bit of that, then you're questioning your own sexual.

Speaker 4

We were saying that on that Yeah, everybody's on the spectrum a little bit. You know, you don't show yourself to be a little metro here and there, Like I think it speaks a little more to your insecurity, Like it's not playing too much because.

Speaker 1

You're scared to play yourself. You might figure something out.

Speaker 4

Yeah, no doubt, no doubt. But uh, all right, let's talk with let's stop with the uh you to pause. Just so many things flashing in my head right now. So you're going throughout, You're going, you're going into this year. There's a lot of so trash.

Speaker 5

You know, the mainstream media they like to create.

Speaker 4

I see you guys got a little quarterback controversy, quarterback battle going on.

Speaker 1

Take us through number one?

Speaker 4

How annoying that is, but also like, take us through what that process is looking like and how that's all unfolding, how you go about your day to day, what's it's, what's it like with coach Charball all that stuff.

Speaker 3

Yeah, So I think I had a really good rep. Actually, going back to my freshman year, was watching Shae go through it because he had decaf dyl McCaffrey who was behind him, and it was sort of like it was like a big thing that they were hyping up Dylan McCaffrey a lot. So I was able to see, like,

like I compared myself. I mean, obviously in the quarterback room between like who I saw more of myself in between, like Dylan McCaffrey, Joe or Shaye, Like obviously I'm gonna see more of myself in Shade, just based on his style of play maybe and his size. So like I was watching him just like go through that because I mean knowing, like you know, whatever the quarterback job at Michigan looks like you know, I'm watching it unfold right in front of myself, So it's gonna prepare myself even

better for when it's my time. So I think me getting those reps of scene, like what it looks like from a social media standpoint, what it looks like from like just doing interview is what looks like, you know, even damn near into games, like fucking Shae comes out of the game and Dylan comes in and then like the crawd starts cheering.

Speaker 2

You're like, what the hell is this? Like yeah, but.

Speaker 3

I mean I haven't had like that much of that, but I mean, I mean it's annoying, but like I feel like, you know, at this point, it's kind of expected, you know, but I think all I give a shit about is like, what's what's going on in here, and I know those boys, I know what they feel.

Speaker 1

So why do you when you say it's expected, Like, what do you mean by that? Like, why do you think it's like should be expected?

Speaker 3

I think I mean being a quarterback, your play will always be critiqued. So I mean if I have it, maybe I guess you could say if someone were to consider my situation a little bit tougher than maybe the what the normal situation is, it's only making myself better, Yeah, and making myself just testing my interconfidence, testing you know, my mental status of how I can still perform, how I can still lead, how I can do all those things that I that I do while all that shit and noises around me.

Speaker 2

Then I'm just only getting better.

Speaker 1

Yeah, going going through high school being the number one recruit in Nevada and then going through the busses, having the schools we just talked about, Like, where did you see your career at at this point? Where are you at now? Where do you want it to go? It's tough. That's a tough three piece. Let's say that real quick. Where did you see it in high school? Where did you see it going? Like where in your mind? Like I'm going to be X, Y, and Z.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 3

So actually I made that decision when I was in seventh grade. I was so in Reno. There's no one has ever actually from my high school like graduated early. So like I made a decision going into eighth grade that I'm going to go to a high school that's going to allow me to graduate early because I want to play seventh Yeah, I told myself, I'm like, you know what, like I want to play big time college football one day. And I actually grew up in a

baseball house, like my dad played baseball. We around baseball my whole life, but I just found something with football. And so where was I just fucking lost track? Oh yeah yeah, so my freshman year, so I made that and like really young that I'm like, you know, I want to be this when I'm when I'm older, and I want to be able to graduate early because basically at the time, like five years ago, like it was like only like quarterback and like two other guys would

early enroll. Now like we got like eight dudes coming in every single every single winter, which is like insane. But so and then I actually had a similar situation that I'm in now in high school was when I was battling for the freshman job. Fast forward to my freshman year on varsity, they had like the all conference junior who's a starting quarterback and then so like I got more reps of dealing with what like being a

quarterback is and what everything it comes with. And I just remember, like there are times like because he was a really likable kid. I mean, high school is like all about popularity and all that shit. Yeah, so yeah, so so he so like even when I would go in a game, like the students section was started cheering his name and shit, and I was like, like I remember just going back to my dad.

Speaker 2

I'm like, what the fuck is this? Like like this sucks, you.

Speaker 3

Know, like like I just wanted to starting job with this sucks, you know. Yeah, And then but it's it's just like well things like that that is just you know, just little lessons that have just helped me deal with my situation.

Speaker 2

Now.

Speaker 4

Yeah, it does seem like you're very observant because again you're making decisions in like seventh or eighth grade, but obviously your way before any real experience is happening. And then coming in and being watching starter backup kind of handle competitions being in a similar situation now and then being able to pull back from being a freshman and seeing those moments.

Speaker 5

And you even bring up social media, I don't think.

Speaker 4

I mean, it was starting to come about when I was in college, but it wasn't Yeah, it wasn't like what you're facing that, yeah, in college, but it wasn't like what you like that being in your answer, like seeing how they deal with social media, seeing what you do your reps in media, all this type of stuff. You seem like really observant somebody who kind of tries to develop like that mental side to handle all that stuff, because it's not just about being physically the best QB out.

Speaker 3

There, right, Yeah, And I think it either way. I mean, it's such a mental position that if you have any cloudiness whatsoever, lack of confidence in yourself or what you're bringing to the team, then you're gonna struggle. And especially with the program like Michigan, you know, where more is demanded of you that you need to be able to give everything. Yeah, and so far, I think I've done a good job with that, and you know, I'm just looking forward to keep on doing it.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

The fans here expect a lot, for sure, and he got one hundred and ten thousand every single game. Them little message boards always going on and stuff like that, it's got to be hard to keep that because there's one thing with high school with the student section going off about another kid, But if the other quarterback comes in and the crowd's cheering, that's got I mean, no matter how you look at it.

Speaker 4

I mean, you coming in this past year, the first game you had a tough game against Chandler Jones, Taylor gets injured or an ivy thing and then goes back into the game and the crowd's booing.

Speaker 1

They're booing me coming off an abl first game back in ac oh dide it hurt, yeah, and you kind of like but when you're in the thick of it, like you're back on the field, it's like you ain't got time to really.

Speaker 2

Worry about it.

Speaker 1

But when you're on the sideline watching him go in there, they're chain. I wonder if that's like a different thought, like, damn, why do these people want him and not me? Because at the end of the day, we're all like little boys. We all just want to be exactly. We don't want to be accepted.

Speaker 5

We all want to be like what it is like, That's how it is.

Speaker 1

Kids grow up their whole life in an arbor in the Detroit area of the suburb area and become like fans of Michigan. They grow up in Omaha, they grow up all over Nebraska like huge fans of Nebraska, and they feel like they're almost entire. What's up, guys, how y'all doing. You're enjoying the place? Love it recruits, Baby, got to get those recruits. Don't you out in Nebraska after this? Don't go tack in Nebraska. It's like this, but way worse.

Speaker 4

Dude.

Speaker 1

That's the problem with this is because now I don't I forget where was that?

Speaker 2

What was I saying?

Speaker 3

Yeah?

Speaker 1

As a kid, you just want like we're all like kind of searching for that, like the feeling of being secure, like being loved and stuff like that. And when you're in a sport like this, it's feast or famine. If you have a good game, you throw four tuddies, no interceptions. That weekend you're walking down the dieg dudes are dappity. We're also looking at you a little different, like, Yo, I'm kind of the man at you know, the next game,

throw a couple of I n ts. Everyone's like, fuck this dude, man, he's a loser, and you're like, yo, y'all are just loving me ten seconds ago. That's the game, that's the sports wild. It's wild, dude, the way that ship works.

Speaker 2

Yeah, it's crazy.

Speaker 1

Yeah, you but like it seems like you're doing an okay job of like dealing with that and carpmentalizing, car penalized, compartmentalizing, compartmentalizer. That's what he's here for. He's so smart.

Speaker 2

It's not the Nebraska, it's not.

Speaker 5

The Yeah and stands for knowledge.

Speaker 2

I know you want to go.

Speaker 1

I was just gonna.

Speaker 4

I was just gonna ask what it's like playing under coach Harball him being a quarterback, Like, does he do you see it good?

Speaker 1

Obviously he talks about.

Speaker 4

Being genuine, being personal, But does he ever like, you know, swing some stories with the boys, Like he played for fifteen years in the league. He's been in this game for thirty five years.

Speaker 2

Bro, No, he's seen some stories for sure.

Speaker 5

Does he take the collar off for you guys and loosen it up a little bit?

Speaker 2

Yeah?

Speaker 3

I mean I think you know we have our quarterback room right now is that we're there's like it's not like you know, like tight asses, just like just like so like anxious about oh my god, this coach could ask me this question or something. So I think sometimes we're able to get some like we'll try and get like if we have some extra time or like meetings are running along, like let's get like let's get something like HBC here right now. Yeah, and so yeah, I

mean it's it's it's fun. And then but I think like on the field though, I think it's sick because he's able to like like like let's say, like you do fuck something up, like him, like who has actually played the position will be like oh yeah, like I see what you were doing, or like like if I like move into pocket or something or do something, then he'll be like oh yeah, like I totally feel that, where like some coaches who haven't played the position at

such a high level that they wouldn't know like oh like if I feel this guy like flash here, then like it's going to make me want to move in this direction, even though like on film, like technically it's like oh, like the pockets like this or whatever it is.

Speaker 2

But no, but some of the stories are they're.

Speaker 1

Good hit us yet, I mean, don't want to put you in the spot. We can take a second, give yourself a minute.

Speaker 3

But I think one of the ones. So I actually witnessed one which was hilarious. So we're at Penn State, right and it's we're freezing our balls off for some reason, like it's it's blown forty miles an hour. And so they have those huge torch things on the sideline and those like.

Speaker 1

Torch barrel things on the ground next to the yeah, and they're hot as hell. Yeah.

Speaker 3

And so we're having like an offensive meeting and Coach Harba is just like talking to all the whiteouts and all the cues and stuff, and he's standing in front of the torch and this dude's leg starts catching on fire.

Speaker 2

His leg is on fire.

Speaker 3

And no one everyone's just like like looking up at him. And then like you can see the smoke just go just fly right past, and we're like, dude, who's gonna say something because like at the.

Speaker 4

In the middle of coaching or something.

Speaker 1

Hey thirty three birds on the way, But I can you on fire right now? Coach by the way.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 3

So and then so someone actually ends up telling him turns around. His entire leg is melted pants.

Speaker 1

The whole pants are melted, because there's a difference between leg and pants.

Speaker 3

Was funny is that his pants are melted and then you just see these old school ass lawn John's underneath staying warm.

Speaker 1

Smart guy during games. He's definitely a long John. Yeah, yeah, one hundred percent along John Guy. That's wild dude. And yeah, if it's me, I'm telling him Rabel's on fire, I'm probably not gonna say nothing. Actually, I'm gonna let him feel that pain for a second, you know, depending on what the situation is.

Speaker 4

Yeah, Like if he's cursing you out, you're like a little Yeah, you want to.

Speaker 1

Meet that he's complimenting me. I appreciate that. By the way, their degrees homely like one of those little deals, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 5

Yeah, exactly should we get into our.

Speaker 1

Or do you want to hit something before? Well, actually, this would be a perfect situation for the Duke Cannon segment.

Speaker 4

This last segment is brought to us by Duke Cannon. Dukes Duke we Can.

Speaker 1

Duke Can a gritty.

Speaker 4

Brand and I'll show you some stuff because as a matter of fact, in Nebraska. We started this last week. The product got in like this, We're good. No, he said, we're good to show. Okay, we're good to like show him. That was the person I was talking to his day, babble off. He runs the stuff.

Speaker 1

They have a lot of sponsors here, so I would say, we're sponsored by Chevy. You don't see shooting Chevy stuff at the back of you're in our hearts right now. But because Michigan is a Ford school, we respect that. You know why, because if they're the leaders in best for a reason, we don't want to step on those toes.

Speaker 4

So Duke Cannon, Duke Canahey, get a whiff of this because this is something that I believe.

Speaker 2

I opened up my box.

Speaker 1

Was that a couple days ago? It got to my house, had to be you called me right away.

Speaker 4

Oh bro, I'm telling the I'm hitting the group chattel my guys. I'm not just bullshit. I'm not over selling. Like this stuff is legit. It needs to be, in my opinion, in every locker room.

Speaker 2

Felicia.

Speaker 4

Felicia's a representative of the brand right now, but I think Duke Cannon needs to be in every locker room. Get a whiff of this. This is oak barrel scent. Buffalo trace, but oak barrel scent.

Speaker 2

Take I actually am a bourbon guy. Are you taking away of that? Man?

Speaker 1

Do you old enough to drink on me? I'm twenty one, you're twenty one of twenty one one, I'm a bourbon guy. Now this solid cologne. You can put a little bit on your neck, put your finger in there, put it on your your freshman year.

Speaker 4

I like that one smell more than that one too, right, ship rips, dude, I'm allowed to cuss, right, Felicia, Yeah, Flicia.

Speaker 1

And then there's the beer soap. Try the beer soup.

Speaker 2

We hit that.

Speaker 1

You hit that before the pod, but it's kind of solid. I just want to get your reaction again. Make it genuine, Hey, but a gritty brand. That is the official scent of the boys, official sense of the boys. And going off the whole locker room stick. I want to put your little bit. Well, you can do it too. Oh shoo. It's a segment such as one question. You're right, That's why I said segment. It's back and forth. Yeah, you go first. Oh, I jump up and shout. Now you

go ahead. It's much to be better. Well, it's not about being better better because it's more because of Michigan and stuff like that. Go ahead, all right, so this year obviously the rivals. Will's wearing red right now. It's a baiting no, no, in this building. You can't wear red in the building.

Speaker 2

It's with the boys.

Speaker 1

It's busting with the boys. It's a neutral.

Speaker 4

You know, everybody's like, oh, Will from Nebraski, he's wearing red. He's Husker's in here. No, no, no, no, that's not the case. It's a busting what the boys thing. But you guys Beatlehouse State. It's what three times in twenty years? Your boy back in twenty eleven.

Speaker 1

Let's you know, it was just me. There's a couple of other guys there too, but it was a nice little deal. What was that like not only during the game, but like after the game and what was that? What was the scene like downtown?

Speaker 2

It was so sick?

Speaker 3

I mean during the game, I mean we could just feel that we just wanted it so much more to them, like they like, that's that shit kind of went viral of us in the locker room during halftime when we're walking up and how like we were just like like just cussing our asses off, just like screaming up them.

Speaker 1

A little less boy like to get.

Speaker 2

That back in that locker room.

Speaker 4

But were you just saying ass or were you know, just throw a B word in there bitch as boys?

Speaker 3

Yeah, I mean there's some words said. Yeah, but so like you could just feel that, Like I feel like since I've been here like in the past, it's just like seeing this Ohio state rivalry is just like like it's so magnitude, like the levels like so high, but then like everyone like kind of like, oh, like we can't lose, like and instead of like just trying to kick their ass, you're just worried about like we can't lose, Like you're trying, you're playing not to lose rather than

playing to beat their ass.

Speaker 1

And this year, like we played to beat their ass. Dude, you guys really did. We were flying to the Patriots and I was watching the game with Rabel and he's sitting there with being streamed and he's like, they're just literally beating our ass like you're running back. Haskins was just fucking those kids off like children. It was unbelievable. It was like watching a five star athlete PLA against the little high schol team.

Speaker 3

Yeah, and like even like even as QB like the fact that I could give a ship because the way we beat them was just so physical, Like it was just We're just pounding the rock, like right down your throat and it was just I mean just going back to like what it was like. I mean just the scene was just so sweet with the with the snow. I mean that was the loudest I've ever heard the big house, and I mean just the swings. The best ship is like the st the extra extracurricular activities on the field.

Speaker 2

I mean that those are the best. Dude.

Speaker 1

There's a dope video of one of your skill guys like falling down.

Speaker 3
