Episode description

Susan and Scott are joined by special guest Tamara Copple, Product Owner for Children International, to talk about Working with Developers.

Key take-aways:

  • When working with developers (or software engineers), do your homework. Bring your research and be prepared to share what you've learned about the problem or opportunity to get the developer up to speed.
  • Provide business context. As a business analysis professional, you may understand more about the business than the developer. Offering this context can provide important background information needed to perform work.
  • Know your audience. Understand what your developers need from you and how they want it delivered. Sometimes, this may not be the way you have learned to write requirements. But knowing how to write (or communicate) with developers will result in better outcomes!
  • Understand your technology. You don't need to know how to code! But understanding the features and limitations of the technologies you work with can help you communicate better with developers.
