Beyond the Self with Africa Brooke

Africa Brookeafricabrooke.com

Welcome to our unfiltered corner. The voicescapes you'll be taking in are created by myself, Africa Brooke.

In a worldly sense, I am a globally acclaimed consultant, mentor, writer, and artist. My deepest desire with this podcast is to remind us ALL of the power inherent in taking simple, consistent, and often uncomfortable steps towards personal integrity.

I'm all too aware that overwhelm and societal pressures make it easy to become fixated on external influences, tiptoe around potentially sensitive issues and cross our own boundaries in the process. And this kind of environment often leads to self-sabotage.

That's where Beyond the Self steps in to be your guiding light. In this house, we FOCUS ON WHAT WE CAN CONTROL.

I will be using all my intellectual property, training, tools and wisdom to help you in uncovering your own blind spots and learning to tolerate discomfort so that you can rekindle curiosity, creativity, deeper and more intimate relationships, pleasure, play, and a sense of groundedness.

In every episode I'll lay out encouraging insights about our shared human complexities, both messy and fucking beautiful. I really do value a nuanced understanding and more importantly, practical, evidence-based tools and resources to help you integrate the learnings into your life.

If you're looking for an uncompromising approach to personal development and life philosophy, you've found yourself in the right place. Here, we don't hold back. Welcome to Beyond the Self.

#062 - Tough lessons: owning your toxicity, using your voice confidently, the truth about success

Prepare yourself for a thought-provoking exploration of three profound life lessons that shaped my path. Last year Steven Bartlett created a Self Development Coaching project, and I was one of the selected coaches. I led the segment on mental health and different elements of spirituality, but through the lens of very grounded, realistic, sustainable self-improvement. I recently found many of the notes and lessons I did within that program. There were around 12 lessons, so today I'm sharing three...

#061 - Confession: I've been writing timidly

Ever wondered what it feels like to get feedback that challenges you to truly be yourself? Well, I've had that experience recently when I received feedback on the first draft of my book. My editors were quick to point out that I was holding back in my writing. Sure, it stung a bit, but I've come to realise the value of their honesty. Let's be real, sharing openly about this is important. As a writer, I've come to understand the power of seeking feedback. Although I'll admit, at first, it felt li...

#057: The freedom of choicelessness with Light Watkins

In this episode, I had the opportunity to interview Light Watkins about his book 'Travel Light' and the fascinating concept of spiritual minimalism. We delved into the idea of choicelessness and Light explained how it can lead to greater freedom, peace, and contentment. True minimalism starts from within, decluttering not just physical spaces but also minds and beliefs. I wholeheartedly recommend listening to this remarkable conversation, as it offers profound insights that will leave you feelin...

#055: Why are you hiding in plain sight?

This question has been on my mind lately as I reflect on the concept of visibility and authenticity. I've noticed that even those who are already famous or in the public eye can struggle with truly being seen. It's as if there's a disconnect between external recognition and internal discomfort. Drawing from my experiences with clients who grapple with visibility, I see the profound impact of self-sabotage and self-censorship on our lives. In this episode, I explore the reasons behind hiding and ...

Today I'm sharing that live with you so you can hear my views on this question and how different people answer it. Are you being effective with how you communicate or not?
