Pyrophytic Film - Surviving A Shark Attack & Living Life On A Second Chance.
Episode description
Brett Connellan was mauled by a bull shark at Kiama's "Bombo beach" in May 2016.
Narrowly escaping the attack with his life, Brett was told he may never walk again. That is where this story begins...
Pyrophytes are plants which have adapted to tolerate fire. In fact, some of these species react favourably to it, growing stronger & more resistant. It's fair to say, Brett shares a strand of DNA with a pyrophyte, in that the shark attack & all of the challenges that came along with recovery only fuelled his growth.
Pyrophytic is a film about living life on a second chance. A story of opportunity masked by challenge & revealed where great tragedy was avoided. Brett Connellan & good friend/filmmaker Sam Tolhurst have worked tirelessly to capture that journey over the past 2 years. The last piece of the puzzle is the "Molokai 2 Oahu Paddleboard World Championships". A 52km race from one Hawaiian island to another that will serve as the final message of this documentary feature film.
I have been blessed to connect with these great fellas & even had the pleasure of running alongside Brett in our #42forCF marathon last year, in which he supported my charity. This story is beyond inspiring & has the power to leave lasting impact on the world & the way we all see life.
