Mark Hughes: 5 Questions, 5 Answers.
Episode description
5 questions & 5 answers forms the conclusion of each podcast I host. Right here, you are seeing it as a preview to the full episode featured on my channel. If you enjoy this, then you need to tune into the full version to hear the story of my guest's personal journey.
At the end of a decade long career at the Newcastle knights, Mark Hughes was not only praised for his ability as a rugby league player but he was commonly known as one of the nicest blokes to ever play the game. Marks retirement plans were to enjoy the life he & his wife Kirralee were building with their children before a shock diagnosis turned their worlds upside down.
Scans revealed an avocado sized tumour on Mark's brain & it was soon confirmed to be cancerous. After riding the rollercoaster of emotions that come with a life threatening diagnosis, Mark decided that he would not be defined by his circumstances but rather how he responded to them.
The Mark Hughes Foundation was born from the hope to help others fighting a battle alike his own & to find a cure to stop brain cancer for good. Having raised close to $30,000,000, Mark is well & truly leading from the front. Mark is the brain behind the famous 'Beanies For Brain Cancer' appeal & has had incredible support with a full round of the NRL calendar dedicated to their fundraising & awareness efforts. He is also incredibly proud of the foundation's very own research centre at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.
This is an incredible story of triumph in the face of tragedy & a never give up attitude that fuels Mark's fire to keep living a purpose driven life. it was my honour to share Mark's story on 'A Lot To Talk About'.
