And we are here. It's a Wednesday, April 9th. It's 4.08 in the afternoon. Dr. Bruce Kiesling is with me. And how are you doing today? I'm doing okay. I have a question that I wanted to ask you. If it's possible, if somebody called in with a question, would you allow me a little extra time to get to that question? Sure. I'd be happy to do it. All right. Well.
The question I want people to call in to make sure that we get to it, and that is, yesterday I spent some time on the indisputable, irrefutable truth. The most important thing by far that I have ever shared on the radio, I mean, it's ten times more important than anything, any one thing that I have shared on the radio, indisputable truth. But I need to have some support here. Somebody has to call in in the next half hour.
You know, put the pressure on you, Mike, to let me extend beyond the half hour because we've got to do justice to these people that have written in their questions. Absolutely. All right. So if you want to know what this indisputable truth is, In fact, the most important thing that the doc has said in 38 years? 38 years on the radio. Call us, 522-0650. All you have to do is say, I want to hear the indisputable truth. That's all you have to do.
So give us a call. And if you call, we're not going to give you anything. You get to talk to Crash. That in and of itself should be the reward. What did you say? Live the dream there? I said dare to dream. Dare to dream. Yes. Okay. All right. So call us up. Tell us you want to hear the truth. And we'll go from there. All right. Meanwhile. Roy writes in, says, I read an interesting report quoting cardiologist Dr. Stephen Williams of the New York University Langone Medical Center. Dr. Williams.
was the new smoking. I'm 50 and have been an office worker for many years. My days are very busy and I can't just quit sitting. Do you have an option or an opinion on the doctor's statement? Thanks for the question, Roy. And what are you doing right now, Roy? I bet you're doing the same thing that Mike and I are doing right now. Your city.
Most of us have heard this phrase. So this Dr. Williams is not new to this particular admonition. Sitting is the new smoking. It refers to the growing epidemic of sedentary lifestyles. But is it true? Okay, I looked up Dr. Stephen Williams. He's about your age, Roy, in the late 40s, early 50s. And I bet he sits a lot, too. So why did he say this? Well, the facts are that over 25% of American adults sit for more than eight hours a day, every day.
44% of the folks get little to no exercise. The average American watches three hours of TV a day. The average American is active less than 20 minutes a day. 60 to 75 minutes of moderate activity can counter the effects of too much. And a study that documented 800,000 people on their sitting habits found that people who sit the most compared to people who sit the least have a greater risk of disease and death.
Over 112% increased risk of diabetes, 147% increased risk of cardiovascular events, 90% and so on. And so that's where this Dr. Stevens is coming from. And, you know, we're all guilty of this as physicians. When we have an important thing to share, you know, a good idea, it's okay to repeat a good idea, and hopefully, you know, it will sink in and people will act on that advice. So...
What happens when you sit? Blood flows down, blood flow slows down. That allows fatty acids to build up in blood vessels. It leads to heart disease, sitting for extended periods. may lead to insulin resistance. It also, 82% of people who suffer from blood clots sat for a significantly greater amount of time than the remaining 18%. We talk about the danger of flying, the economy class syndrome. That's because you're sitting for too long. The blood pools.
You've got to keep your hydration up and so on. But sitting is inevitable. So how can you ward off the negative effects? So the point being that, of course, you sit a lot, Roy, so set a timer. Get up and move around every hour. Move around, stand, walk around, stretch. You can even download apps to your phone to remind you and watch your posture. And then I work off of a desk. It's a desk that's a stand-up desk or a sit-down desk so that I can vary it.
But the point is that the sitting as bad as smoking, it's a little bit of sensationalism to try to get your attention. To not sit so much. And to go back to what we talk about with exercise. All right. Well, we've got a couple of calls. Bob, he's on the line. The other, we got a call from Nancy, or actually a message from Nancy, and they both want to hear the indisputable truth.
Well, okay, so the pressure's on you, Mike, because it's your program. Okay, so what we can do is if you want to talk about the indisputable truth, we can do that, and then we can take the question. After that. No, I think we ought to tease him. But it's your program. But you want to get people mad. It's your program. See what you've just done with the phones here?
they lit up yeah okay so you're saying we should do it we should probably do that did you want to is bob on the line let me just grab Bob, go ahead. You wanted to hear the truth? Oh, I know what the indisputable truth is. I've heard Dr. Kiesling speak about the indisputable truth. Don't tell us yet. Well, I'm going to tell you. I've got to tell you. He's told me this before, and that is.
A happy prostate is an empty prostate. I've been living by that. Have you? Oh, yes. Yes, I have. Well, there are some things that... and just, you know, can't cure it. You have to do it yourself. That is an indisputable truth, but it's not the most important indisputable truth. Well, it depends on Bob. Yeah, I guess that's true. It all comes back to you.
I prefer not to do it myself, but, you know, every once in a while you have to go that way. Well, remember, it's sex with someone you love, so it's okay. Okay. All right, Bob, thank you. I appreciate the call. All right, go ahead and talk about the indisputable truth. We've got a bunch of questions. We'll get to those. But you started this thing. Now you're going to finish it. Okay, well, I have to talk about it and give you a little bit of a buildup here.
I was in a group in Anchorage. I came up in 73, and I was in a group for 10 years before I was kicked out of the group. They said I was overbearing. I said I was insistent on accountability. You want me to tell you what? Okay. I said I was insistent on accountability and excellence, and we were both right. I was insistent to the point of being overbearing.
So I started PCA in 1985, 40 years ago, with just my sister alongside it. And then it grew to four size 28 professionals. I stepped away from it. couple years ago so I'm going to be talking about PCA I've never done that in the 40 years I've been on the air I've never touted PCA per se I sold the practice that we grew from actively treating and managing patients and I've repurposed myself, not retired, to do what I'm doing now, provide suggestions.
So the group at PCA graciously encourages my attendance at the weekly Wednesday practitioner meeting, and that's what brought me to a tipping point today on this disclosure of the indisputable truth. When we meet on Wednesdays, we talk about patients, we talk about the group, talks about diagnoses, how best to treat folks. And today's meeting was a tipping point.
Of course, as well as what we do on this program with Mike, is to offer my perspective and suggestions based on my education, training, and experience. I've never pushed folks toward the PCA clinics per se, but the indisputable truth, and brought out by the meeting that we had this morning, is as we reviewed patients who... were ignoring their health, who were ignoring preventive measures. and who were sometimes being seen.
without any continuity of the care. The single most important thing is to get the right care but to align yourself, to make a connection. with a group, an individual in the group that you hopefully have continuity with, but a group that will also provide continuity when he's not there, just like primary care associates did for me when I was on vacation or out of there.
that will provide the continuity because I'm telling you that is the single most important thing for your health outside of taking care of yourself okay obviously all the things that we talk about exercise and eating right and all that that's the most important thing because it's what you have control over But I'm saying this is something you also absolutely need to take control over. You need to establish with a doctor in a group.
that you trust and you grow old with them. Today we saw examples of patients who had been seen elsewhere and put on an antibiotic that they shouldn't have been put on and developed a terrible drug reaction.
Well, it was an antibiotic that we do prescribe when it's necessary, but the important thing is it wasn't necessary in this case, and they had a drug reaction. Well, not only did they have a drug reaction, but they couldn't get back to the person that had prescribed it to fix it up. Well, that's not the way PCA works. That's not the culture that I developed there. So whether you go to an urgent care PCA or you go to the...
continuity of care, there is going to be continuity and follow-up. This is important. And I'm not saying there aren't other clinics besides PCA. The message has always been find a doc. grow old with him or her and ideally in a clinic I mean, if you have any experience in the real world, you know that the supply side is down. What did we talk about earlier before the program? We talked about networks. Okay, what have I talked about frequently on my program and this program? There is an A-team.
And so when I was, you know, the director and owner and what have you, PCA, we had some of our meetings devoted to the scrutiny of who's the A-team. What does the A-team mean? It means those people that we, when we need to refer. When we need some help, some consultation, we can call them up. We can jump the queue for our patients. We can get them in. This is crucial. This networking, okay? I turned you on to a plumber. You did.
There you go. It's a network. I think you turned me on to the guy that, you know, helped my roof. Yes. Okay. These are really a crucial relationship. When we're talking about your health, it's really important to have the trust and faith in somebody who says, well, I don't know the answer to this, but I know where we can get the answer. I know where we can get you the care that you need.
This is absolutely the most important message I have delivered in the 38 years I've been on the air. You need to do this. Of course, all the things about exercise and good health. you know good diet Mediterranean diet that's all very important but don't ignore this this is really really important now in addition to that I have my frequent comment. Why would you get off in Sioux Falls when you absolutely need to get to Chicago? All right.
So you go in, and what happened to this person who got an antibiotic that shouldn't have gotten an antibiotic? That doesn't happen at PCA. Why is that? Because they have this. new technology, which no other urgent cares have. Only the hospitals have them. Hopefully the other urgent cares in town will get them as well. It's called BioFire. BioFire will screen you for 14 different organisms.
and so you know whether you have mycoplasma they discovered people that were having pertussis they wouldn't have known that because there's no you know defining symptom that was going to well obviously with pertussis is a hoofing cough but Whether you have influenza A, influenza B, do you have COVID? So this technology is going to allow, and we talk about precision medicine, okay? This is precision medicine.
So when somebody comes in and, you know, as a practitioner, you say, well, you know, I really think this is a virus. Well, no, doc, this is exactly like when I had strep throat and I need those antibiotics. You can get the precise answer. Okay, you say, well, what's that going to cost? It might cost you up to $300. Okay, what's that worth to you? $300 is a lot of money. I will absolutely agree with you. But if it saves you from a prescription that you don't need.
saves you from a drug reaction, saves you from possibly getting a C. difficile colitis, which runs into all kinds of problems, then is it worth it? Does insurance cover this biofilm? Yes, it does. Or you say, well, I don't have insurance. Well, what's it worth to you? To know exactly what's going on and that you get the precise medicine that you need. So get with a group, get with a doctor, get with a practitioner that you trust.
and that will provide continuity of care. And the difference of PCA is that if you go to the urgent care and you have a chronic condition, you can come back. It's not a treat-em-and-streat-em kind of urgent care. Oh, we don't take care of that in the long term. You may go to a different clinic. The Eagle River has continuity of care. Some of the practitioners at Huffman have continuity of care. And the urgent care clinics
uh, were four strong. When I left, they added a fifth one, uh, that's in the Valley. You know, I've never done it. I've never done my program or treated it like it was a Johnston Tire Special. You've got to come to see PCA. But I'm saying right now, PCA is a very good example of exactly what you want to look for and you want to establish with a doc. That is the most important message I can offer you.
All right. Well, I think it's a very good one. And you have to take your health seriously and you have to take control of it. And that's a way to do it. Well, there's nobody that's better at networking than you. And so you understand what that relationship can do. Yeah, especially when you're dealing with your health. Exactly. Yeah, or your family's health, for that matter. All right, well, thank you for keeping your prostate empty. Well, that's an inconvenience.
Missy, she says, I was saddened by the deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa. Ms. Arakawa died from Hantavirus in her Santa Fe home. I understand it is rare and there is no cure. Is this virus always fatal? My sister is moving to Santa Fe. How can we protect her? How can she protect herself and her family from this virus? Okay, Missy, thanks for the question. HannaVirus has actually been around a long time. The first time I was aware of it was some decades ago.
When a bunch of folks came down with it in New Mexico, and they got it from drinking from soft drinks, where they were stored in a warehouse. And in the warehouse, there were a lot of rodents and they had a lot of droppings on the top of the drinks. Yeah. And so there wasn't any cleaning of it. And so there you have it. You would definitely don't want to do that. The point is it comes from mice droppings and it's spread by rodents. It is not spread from person to person.
Is it all a uniformly fatal? No. But there are several varieties of hantavirus which shouldn't surprise you because we talk about the varieties of viruses within a certain group. And that's true with the Hantavirus as well. The ones that cause the hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome, which is presumably what Mr. Hackman's wife had, those are very severe and they have a high, high mortality rate. But the other antiviruses you can fight off for another day.
But the important thing is to minimize your contact with rodents in your home, your workplace, your campsite, to reduce your exposure to, you know, to the hantaviruses and the vectors that spread it, which are the rodents. You know, seal the holes and gaps in your home. So, you know, I'm not a big cat lover, but, you know, you could have a cat. That would be a mouser that would take care of your...
Yesterday on my program, I talked about the importance of having a dog. So, you know, there you go. But in other words, you want to control the rodent infestation around there. It's really still pretty rare, but these incidents, of course, because it's a celebrity. It got a lot of attention. And because it got a lot of attention, we had an outbreak of three in the mammoth area around California. That's what you hear about it. But it's not uniformly fatal for sure. It's not. All right.
It's 426, so here's what we're going to do. We've still got a couple more questions, and we're going to extend the program today because you told us the... The absolutely indisputable truth. Indisputable truth you told us. So we've got a couple more questions. So what we're going to do is we're going to take our break now, Crash. And we will come back and we will finish up. Other questions? Dr. Bruce Kiesling is with me.

and we've got some extra we have some not extra questions but we have some questions we didn't get to but now we're going to do And we appreciate the doc hanging in there with us. A question comes from Hal. A few years ago, he says you did a great job demystifying the mRNA vaccines for COVID manufactured by Pfizer and Moderna. You also mentioned a traditional vaccine type that was awaiting approval from Novavax.
I followed the FDA closely and learned that Novavax was said to be approved, but a reduction of force at the FDA has stopped this process. Is this Mr. Kennedy playing games with our public health? The short answer, Hal, is yes. And you're a regular, Hal. We get a lot of questions from you, and interesting ones, of course. Thanks for the question. But the short answer is yes, he is. But let me explain a little bit about this.
As I mentioned previously, unlike Moderna's and Pfizer's messenger RNA vaccines, which contain modified viral genetic material, that our own body's cellular machinery will use to make viral proteins that will then in turn elicit an immune response. Novavax relies on the more traditional approach in which proteins resembling those in the SARS COVID virus.
are injected directly into the body. And this protein-based method has been used for more than three decades in other vaccines very safely, and it's traditional in that sense. For instance, the hepatitis B vaccine is exactly like that. The Novavax jab also includes a proprietary compound called Matrix M, which was developed from the bark of the Chilean soapbark trees, and it further stimulates the immune system. Very innocuous, very...
Well tolerated. And the matrix MSL being integrated in other vaccines, including one for malaria. So this is good stuff from the Novavax. So that compared with messenger RNA, and I talked about this earlier with the Novavax, the Novavax booster proved to have a lower risk of causing myocarditis and pericarditis. Those are heart conditions that occasionally occur, especially in young men.
than the messenger RNA vaccine, although it doesn't have a zero risk. It also has fewer side effects, including muscle fatigue and nausea. And so we were saying that if people had a side effect with the messenger RNA vaccine, that the Novavax was something to look forward to. So what's going on with the RFK, Junior? Well, you know, I hate to say it because the bet noire for me was Dr. Fauci.
And now he's gone, but he's been replaced by somebody, you know, at least as bad in terms of the effect on the nation's health. So I'm going to say that it's really, really unfortunate how, you know, he's kind of an intentional moron, meaning that he's not stupid. And he knows what he's doing to his own purpose. And people say, well, what about him saying that we've got too many additives?
You know, are you saying that we shouldn't clean up this or that? Well, I'm not saying that every single thing out of his mouth is ridiculous. I mean, that's like saying, well, you know. Even Mussolini got the trains to run on time. Okay. So the fact that Kennedy comes up with an occasional, you know, I agree with him. has no bearing on the fact that one of the single most important things in the development of modern medicine and the prevention of illness being vaccines.
him trashing it and and discouraging people from getting it that's horrible we saw what happened when than all of that nonsense that came out of Wakefield and the fraudulent doc in Britain attributing autism. to vaccines. And look at what fell off in all of the increased incidence of illnesses as a result of parents getting freaked out about it and not getting it. This business in, of course, Texas and the vaccines. So, yeah.
I'm not going to go much further in talking about RFK Jr. because I'm going to have a lot of opportunities as long as he's in that position to point out that he's a deliberate moron and he's a dangerous one. Do you think that Novavax is going to get approved? Sounds like it's a good... alternative for the vaccine well of course it makes sense to do that but if you've got an agenda that says all vaccines are suspect
Even when you're talking about a vaccine that its methodology has been proven to be very safe. Because, you know, RFK Jr. had a thing about COVID vaccines to begin with. So, yeah, I'm going to agree with how he's saying, well, I'm not going to approve another one of those COVID vaccines. And he's not going to look at the evidence because he doesn't look at the data and evidence as it is. OK. Maybe you can have an opinion on it.
Well, you know, it's bound to happen, and folks got a belly full of me I know about Fauci, and I'll try to temper my enthusiasm for RFK Jr., but we're going to have a lot of opportunities to talk about him in the future. Okay, more. Over the winter, I slipped on some ice and fell hard on my back. I'm 68 years old and had no complications, just a sore back. Icy Hot helped. We talked about that last week.
Last week, my right foot started to get very warm. The sensation comes and goes, but the warming period seems to be getting longer. It is getting annoying. Any idea what it might be? I'm going to see my doctor in two weeks. Okay, Martin, that's great. You got a doctor. I like it in the possessive case where you say my. That emphasized what I said earlier about the truth. Establish with a doc you trust and grow old with them. So you're going to see your doctor.
I was going to give you some advice. So this is, of course, a disadvantage in trying to figure out because your doctor is going to be doing some tests. He's going to be doing a physical exam that's going to help sort this out for you. But it sounds like you're trying to make a connection between having slipped on the ice over the winter and now here we are into March. and having a new symptom. So I really can't put that necessarily together. Is it impossible? No.
So what happens? There's actually a burning feet syndrome. Well, whenever you have a syndrome, it's usually symmetric, meaning both feet would be burning. You said it's just your right foot, okay? When it's asymmetric and just... one extremity, it means that the pathology is probably limited to that extremity, as opposed to, for instance, I talked about
This drug reaction presented with this horrible rash. It's bilateral. So we're thinking about systemic things and eventually figuring out it was a drug reaction. Well, you have it on one side. It's not going to be a systemic thing. It's probably more likely going to be a local problem. And what could that be? It could be nerve damage or nerve entrapment.
Anytime you have a nerve symptom, it can be something from what we call neuropathy, which, you know, we've got to have our medical term that says your nerve is barking at you. Basically, that's what neuropathy means. Well, why is it barking? Well, peripheral neuropathy, that's one of the main causes of symptoms like you have, something that damages the peripheral sensory nerve. I don't think it has a connection to your fall.
It's possible, the radiating sciatic nerve and what have you, sensory nerve down to your foot, but I doubt that is probably it. obviously you know you can have diabetes related peripheral neuropathy but again it's going to be you know systemic it's going to be bilateral
But there's another syndrome called tarsal tunnel syndrome. And that's where your tarsal tunnel is a narrow space inside your ankle, near your ankle bones. And compression... squeezing of your posterior tibial nerve and that's the nerve behind the largest long bone of your lower leg instead or rather inside of your arch that can result in sensations of burning tingling and you know that can be that there are things that can be done to give the nerves some breathing space. Also,
Morton's neuroma. Nerve tissue may thicken between the bones at the base of your toes. And you didn't go into the burning, what part of your foot did it extend up into the ankle and all that. All that's going to be, you know. Your doc is going to dive into that. Like we say so often in medicine, the diagnosis comes 80% from the history, 10% from the physical exam, 10% from technology. That's gotten turned on its head in a lot of...
things are devoted to technology. In fact, I touted it at the beginning of the program, you know, knowing exactly what you're... But there are some technology things that can be done to sort this out for you. But it's going to be something that is pinching or inflaming the nerve. one side it's probably not going to be a systemic issue like the neuropathies from and there's a number of syndromes including the
Burning foot syndrome, known as the Grierson-Gopalan syndrome. I was just going to ask about that. Yeah, or Charcot-Marie-Tooth. I didn't know all that. It's probably not going to be one of those. It's going to be a local.
All right, so Mort, seeing your doctor is... a good idea i couldn't recommend it more all right well we're we're kind of at the end of the uh end of the the show and i appreciate you sticking around a little longer to kind of my pleasure go through all of this stuff and now you're not going to be here next week is that right okay so next week um you will be somewhere doing something with a family in lower 48 is always you know it's always about that yeah well and my mom
Say hi to mom. You bet. How old is your mom now? 98. Oh, my. That's, you know, that's fantastic. It is fantastic. It really is. And she's sharp. sharpest intent and sassy and all right totally just you know mangled with arthritis in her hands and she still takes care of herself lives alone it's it's wonderful and it's wonderful to visit her what an inspiration it is truly
All right, well, Doc, have a great visit with Mom, and we'll see you in a couple of weeks. I look forward to it. Thanks for extending. I appreciate that. Anytime. All right. We'll be right back. You know, Crash, talking about homes and making things beautiful and making things better, there's a company that I've dealt with. And I got to tell you, these guys are top-notch. Great people, great products. You couldn't ask for a better company than ABC Seamless. Now, if you're looking at siding your house or painting your house or whatever, Let me just say this. You need to get a hold of these guys.
907-646-2228. That's the phone number. Now they deal only in the best stuff, right? They will go to your home and they will fabricate. Everything on site so it fits absolutely perfectly to your house. Now their siding has parallel durability. It's constructed from heavy gauge hot dipped G90 galvanized steel.
galvanized steel making it far more robust than vinyl or wood and it is going to look like freshly painted wood for many many many years and they have a ton of colors but they also have gutters And something called the gutter helmet, which Crash is going to tell you about. They do all sorts of stuff, including soffits and that kind of thing for your house to make it look beautiful. If you're looking at doing anything for your house on the outside,
You need to get a hold of ABC Seamless. Right. And if you want to see kind of what's in store for you, Short of looking at the finished work in person, the website's a great resource for you. Tons of pictures on the website, which makes sense because what they do...
is a visual-type deal, so it lends itself to pictures of the work they can provide for you. And if you go to the website, again, abcseamlessalaska.com, right there on the homepage is a picture of a beautiful home that's pretty much... featuring everything they can do. They do the gutters. The gutter helmet, as Mike mentioned, if you're not familiar, it's this contraption that fits on top of your gutter. It stops everything except for water from flowing through the gutter, which tons of benefits.
You don't have to ever clean them, and they'll last forever because the only thing flowing through them is what's supposed to be in there, which is water. So if you're going to think about the steel siding, you probably want to look at the gutters as well. So the colors will match perfectly. And as Mike said, they'll fabricate everything on site. So it'll fit just perfectly.
energy efficient doors and windows they do roofing projects and all of it online for you to check out at abc seamless alaska.com if that's your big summertime project to paint outside your house before anybody even thinks about opening a can of paint
This is a great alternative because it looks great years down the road, whereas, you know, a couple years down the road, you're thinking about repainting the house again. As the paint fades, it chips. You have to deal with that. You don't with the steel siding. It looks absolutely beautiful. and will for a really long time. So check it out for yourself. Tons of pictures on their website. Go see it, ABCSeamlessAlaska.com. Give them a call, 907-646.
2228 ABC Seamless. They come with my AAA++++ recommendation. They are just amazing. All right, it is 4.51, and I heard from a very reliable source. that the Senate Education Committee is going to go ahead and pass out this education bill. and they're going to pass the $1,000 BSA. Now, here's the real interesting part of it. There's no money to pay for it. They have no fiscal note on it. There is no way they know how to pay for it, except take your permanent fund.
And the reason for this, and this is again from a very reliable source, and we'll probably find out more tomorrow. But this reliable source tells me that this is being done ostensibly to protect the Anchorage Center. especially the republicans and the Democrats, obviously, who can honestly say we voted for it. We voted for the big BSA, knowing full well there's no way they can pay. So once again, more kabuki dancing that goes on down in Juneau.
Rather than doing something to actually fix a problem, rather than doing something to actually address a situation. They're going through this nonsense to try to pull the wool over your eyes. Now, this is coming from the Democrat majority. That is also peopled or populated, may I say, by what I would call turncoat republics. And that is something that's got to stop.
So this is what they're going to do. I have this on excellent authority. This is what they're going to do. We'll see. And I will probably say this will happen tomorrow. So they're going to go ahead and pass this thing knowing full well there's no money to pay for it. There's no fiscal note. There's no planning. There's nothing. But they're going to do it, and it's done to protect their members. That's what it's being done for. So they can say, oh, you voted.
Rather than to actually roll up their sleeves and come up with something that is actually going to work and that is actually going to do what's needed to be done, if you're going to try to fund and add money to the education system, You're going to need to add what you can afford. And let's put it this way. You're also going to have to put some sort of accountability into that money.
If you can't show what's being done with it, if you can't show progress, then why in the world should anybody give you another dime? again it's not being anti-education to say that it is being pro-educate The anti-education people just want to throw money at it. Say, well, we did what we could do. That's not solving a problem.
That's throwing money at it. That's like the way the Anchorage Assembly deals with the homeless. Well, they need a home. That's it. That's their answer. So if you have a home, you're not home. All right, 522-0650. That's our number. Crash is just kind of nuts. It really is, to see what's going on down there. But they're not going to do anything. I will probably bet that there will be a special.
Oh, yeah, I think that that's been a foregone conclusion for quite a while now, too. Yeah, it's just that there doesn't seem to be any effort to solve problems. They're deadlocked. Well, why are they deadlocked? They're deadlocked because people are holding on to something that's not going to work. So figure out what will work.
And then put it on the table for your colleagues to look at and say, well, you know, we're not all happy with this thing, but this is the best we can do. And sometimes that's all you can do. We'll be right back. Stay with us. What I remember most is the loneliness I felt. The separation from other people. At the end drinking was no fun for me. Well, you wanted to tell me something, and I thought, you know, rather than right back and forth, it would be better to have you on the air. And you're from District 6. That's correct. The 6-6 Republican Party down here on the southern Kenai Peninsula. Okay, and what you folks were trying to do was to sanction U.S. Senator Murkowski and State Senator... Gary Stevens. Now tell me why.
Well, it's pretty clear to us that Senator Murkowski is not following the Republican Party platform or our party rules. in that she has taken several positions in opposition to the party on things like rank choice voting, confirmation of President Trump's nominees for different positions. supporting Congressman Peltola over Nick Begich and Sarah Palin when they ran in 22 and 24. Things like that that just...
They keep building up, building up, and our district finally got to the point where we said, We cannot stand by idly and take this anymore. Now, the other person you want to sanction is Senator Gary Stevens from Kodiak, and he is the president of the Senate. What did Senator Stevens do? Senator Stevens violated the rules in a very blatant manner. Our rules say that for the alaska party rules say that you will not form a caucus where more than one-third of the caucus is non-republican
He formed a caucus with five Republicans and nine Democrats. Now, math is kind of hard, and I'm not really good at math, but I think nine is more than one-third of 14. So it was such a blatant violation of rules that that was the only thing. I mean, there's been a number of other issues, his votes on positions on issues and things like that.
we could have addressed but chose not to because this one single issue has been such a blatant issue. And I think it led to some of the problems that you were talking about earlier on your program where The legislature can't come to grips with the financial issues we have in the state budget because they have excluded a significant portion of the membership of the legislature.
Yes, they've absolutely done that. Now, the other part of this is you're 6, District 6, and he also represents District 5. And District 5, you had a bit of a problem with the chair of that district. because apparently there was no hearing or no discussion to try to sanction Senator Stevens. That's correct. He decided, the chair over there decided he was not going to deal with it, that he was happy with what Senator Stevens has been doing for Kodiak.
and thinks he's doing a great job. So he said that he was not going to deal with it. And besides, the senator has said that he's not going to run for re-election after this term. We suspect that that may be true, but we don't know for sure. felt like it was important to send a clear message to him and to other legislators that
The kind of actions they've taken is simply intolerable, and we cannot stand by and allow that to happen and say nothing. So what's the Alaska Republican Party doing, Charlie, about all this? Well, the party has very specific rules and it's not easy to sanction. state senator or a U.S. senator, certainly it's a much higher threshold for a U.S. senator in that we have to get the majority of all of the districts. There's 40 districts, the House districts all around the state.
37 of those districts have organized Republican parties, and we need to get a majority. of those districts to agree to sanction Senator Murkowski for the party itself, the overall statewide party, to take any kind of action. It's a high threshold. It should be a high threshold because it's not something you want to do lightly or make it an easy thing to go around censoring people. We should not do that.
And so we're working now, District 8, up in Keene Ashfield-Sterling area, actually started the process. where they had three of the senator's constituents come forward and file charges against her for violating the platform and really bringing disgrace upon the party by some of her actions.
They took the action. Several other districts have taken action against the senator. We did our action this weekend. We're hoping that we can get a majority of the districts around the state to join in and that we can senator. Well, you know, it's kind of interesting to see what happens, and I'm glad that... You know, rather than people just complaining about something, you're trying to do something. It'll either work or it won't work. I mean, you'll know that probably soon enough.
But, you know, why have a party? Why have rules? if nobody's going to follow them. I mean, I don't understand that, and it's almost like, well, I want to be a Republican, but I don't want to follow your rules, so therefore, why should I recognize you as a Republican? Yeah, I certainly understand your concern, and that's a concern that we hear from many people as we talk to them about helping us with the party, joining the party and helping out.
They say, well, you folks don't do anything. You're ineffective. You don't take any action when people don't follow your rules. And I think that this is an opportunity for the party to say, Yes, we are going to take action. It's kind of like the old guy in that movie that stood up, stuck his head out the window and said,
I've had all I can take. I'm not going to take it anymore. That's right. Yeah, old network. Yep. Yeah, old movie or TV show. I don't know what it was. It was a movie. Yeah, absolutely. No, I hear you, and I feel like. I'm that old guy wanting to yell out the window. I'm certainly an old guy, and I like to yell out the window too.
Nobody listens to me, but, you know, I feel a little better after I yell. Well, there's a whole bunch of people listening to you right now, Charlie, I can tell you that. Well, I hope that they will go to their districts in the Republican Party and ask for their districts to take action and help us to follow through with. sending a message to Senator Murkowski and because of the fact that
District 5 chose not to do anything. We have to also get a majority of the districts to join us in taking action against Senator Stevens. So we're hoping to get some support. Would really appreciate it. If anybody's got any questions or wants to talk about it, I'm happy to talk to them. They can give me a call, 907-299-8142. Give me a call.
Now, have you folks been able to talk to Senator Murkowski or Senator Stevens? We have not. We have sent them letters notifying them that we were going to have the hearing and what the charges were. They did not respond to us. and we have not heard a word from them. So I don't know. I know District 8 also tried to...
contact Senator Murkowski before they took their action. She would not talk to them either, did not appear at their hearing, or send a representative and her staffer in the Anchorage office. contacted her to see if she wanted to do it on a different date or something that was more convenient for her. She said she was not going to participate. So I think that they are sort of thumbing their noses at us. I think you got your answer then. Okay.
Well, Charlie, it's always good to talk to you. You're one of the good people. I know you care very deeply about Alaska. You love it. It's good to talk to you, and I appreciate you reaching out to me, and I wanted to give you the opportunity to reach out a little further and see if people were interested in helping you. K-E-N-I. Looking at the Alaska total traffic cameras on this Wednesday evening. There is steady traffic now around the Anchorage Bowl. Tudor Road's got a few minor slopes. 22-522-0650. And, you know, I know that President Trump is ratcheting up the tarot. on China, whereas he says China, China. But there's something that they're doing in China that Senator Rick Scott of Florida is concerned about. And I'll tell you what it is.
It's worse than you think. Communist China grows garlic. All right. Now, there's nothing wrong with growing garlic. Garlic is great. You know, I mean, everybody loves garlic, right? But it's grown in human weight. Did it get your attention? Yummy! It's why I'm reintroducing, says Senator Scott, the Sewage Garlic Imports Act to ban the importation of this unsafe communist Chinese garlic. And it says here, I'm looking right now at a package. The Chinese garlic says fresh garlic three pieces
Packed for I Love Produce LLC in Kelton, Pennsylvania. You can go to the website at iloveproduce.com and it is a product of China. And he said that garlic, this is what he says, I'm probably not going to eat that, is grown in human weight. I mean, garlic breath in and of itself is a bad thing. If you have garlicky, poopy breath, that's probably way worse.
It's funny to me that you said he's going to reintroduce. That means at one point they said we shouldn't grow garlic in human waste. And then another point they said, oh, it's probably fine. And then now they're thinking we probably should get rid of that. Maybe there's a high enough tariff on it. Maybe. You know, it's like $40 or something. Somebody goes, oh, you can't get it. Some people will start buying.
When it becomes expensive enough, some people consider it a delicacy to drive the price up. So I guess word to the wise, if you want a crap garlic, go get it now before the price goes up. Then I would eat that. Well, see, now it wouldn't matter if that was true or not. Now I wouldn't eat it just because maybe it's true. You know what I mean? Right. Right. No, I would not, would not in any way, shape or form eat. I don't blame you. No. But that also brings into question, where is your food grown?
I don't think I want to know. Honestly, I mean, sometimes ignorance is bliss. Like they say there's a certain amount of ground up insects that are acceptable in most foods that we eat. I don't really want to know that stuff. I mean...
Like I said, ignorance is bliss. I mean, although there are some exceptions to the rule. I mean, we know what hot dogs are made of and we continue to eat those bologna as well, which is if you get down to it is nothing more than a flat hot dog. Right. But it has a first name. It does. It's not the tubular meat. No. Speaking of strange things, I'm looking out the window here. Matt just now started snowing again. It's not just snowing.
It's snowing. I mean, it's coming down. Yeah, it's supposed to snow for the better part of the rest of the day and on and off tomorrow all day. Yeah, I mean, it's like really coming down here. the palatial studios at the Diamond Center. So my weatherman on my phone says it'll snow for the next hour and a half or so and then quit until like 3 in the morning and then snow from 3 in the morning until about 9 a.m. tomorrow. Oh, how delightful. And then Sunday we're supposed to get rain. Rain.
Well, I mean, you know, we've got... Snow is still in the grass. It's still collected in the grass and not... you know, dissipating. On the streets, at least, it got better, you know. Yeah, because it... snow as much as it did before and then freeze again. See, I'm kind of getting the best of both worlds right now. The roads aren't appreciably worse, but it's just enough snow to cover up all the dog crap in my yard. You can grow garlic. Yeah, maybe. It's win-win for me right now. Yes.
Well, I mean, you know, you steer manure. Yeah. I'm fertilizing and mulching. Yeah. I mean, if you like mushrooms, you know, horse manure and hay. I used to like mushrooms. I don't so much anymore. I got to tell you, I'm just looking forward to going home and doing laundry. Our new washer dryer got delivered. Did you get it? Did you like it? I wasn't home when it happened. We got one of these. We had an unfortunate incident that was entirely my fault.
We have this huge dog bed. We have two little dogs, but the thing was huge. And my dogs, if you listen to the show, I'm not exaggerating for effect. They pee on everything. They do. They urinate uncontrollably throughout the house. They're not allowed. upstairs anymore because the upstairs carpet. So they're not allowed up there. And my chihuahua, Bruce Wayne, he has a fetish with anything plastic.
Like if a plastic wrapper or plastic bag is on the floor, he'll pee all over it. And then the other one, the other one, Alfred Pennyworth, the multi poo. He knows he's not supposed to go number two in the house, so he'll hide it in your shoe. So I've caught him sitting on a shoe much like you or I would a toilet. and doing his deal in there. So the dog bed was just beyond disgusting. But it's huge. Let me just get another one. As the story turns out, I probably should have.
So I cram this whole thing in our washing machine. We have these little, obviously you put the detergent in there. But we also have these little smell good pellet things that you throw in with them to make things smell good. put all that crap in there and cram it in there and then i start her up and then it gets done and my wife from upstairs is like hey
The dog bed's too big for the washer. It balled up, and the water didn't go all the way through it, so those little pellets you put in there didn't dissolve. So I'm like, okay, well, I'll take it out and redo it again. She goes, why don't you take. the cover off of the mattress parts of it and just wash that by itself. A little bit more flimsy fit in there.
Well, I took the foam parts out, and they're not really foam parts. They're little compartments full of, I don't know what you would call it, stuffing of some sort, like cotton almost, like a bunch of cotton balls. It's like stuffing. So it's soft for the dog. Yes. So I decide to wash not only the cover, but the tubes of stuffing as well. Well, one of them unzipped while the wash machine was going on and emptied itself.
And all this fuzz got in between the drum and the outside of the washer and gummed up the motor. So the washing machine was useless after Saturday night. It wouldn't even start. It would just hum and kind of smell bad. So I figured, well, we should probably unplug that and not use it.
So my wife decides we're going to get a new one. Well, she gets, as she does, she gets a little bit above her skis, and we get a washer, dryer. It's all in the same machine. Not a stackable. It's one machine. You throw everything in, start it. And it washes your clothes. And when the wash cycle is done, it immediately turns on the dryer. And it's ventless, too. So we don't have a dryer vent to deal with or anything like that. It weighs 350 pounds.
So the guys came today to move it, and I'm not going to say the name of the company because I don't want to disparage anyone in their good work, but they had a real hard time getting it up the steps. Now I have real doubts as to whether or not my ceiling is going to hold this thing. So I'm waiting for it to come crashing down into the living room.
But she texted me. She goes, I don't think they're going to get this thing up the stairs. And one of the guys, he's a full-figured gal, right? So he's having a hard time getting it up the stairs. So they finally get it up, and in the course of them doing it, one of the mover guys thought it would be a good idea to not once but two times absolutely destroy our bathroom downstairs. So he kept taking a bathroom break. And Carrie, my wife, could hear him in the bathroom going through the cupboard.
As he's in the bathroom. So long story short, we get the thing. up there and it's done and I have to say I've never been more excited to go home and do a load of laundry because of the the long arduous process of picking this thing out getting it because what happened was we went to Costco to pick it up
We picked one out, so we pick it out online. My wife has, you know, you use a credit card to pay for stuff that you get rewards with, right? So, yeah, she has one. She's going to use her Samsung Pay. The lady's like, well...
We don't take Samsung Pay here, but what you can do is you can run your, with your Samsung Pay, you can buy gift cards to the store with your Samsung Pay and then go ahead and pay for your appliance with the gift cards. We found one we liked. We went, okay, put it in the cart. It was supposed to be delivered today. As soon as we put it in the cart, it changes. And it says,
Sorry, we're wrong about that one. Within seven to 10 days, someone will contact you to arrange a delivery date. Like, well, that's not going to work. We need the washer and dryer apparatus now. So we tell the lady at Costco, we're like, okay, we're going to go buy it somewhere else. She goes, oh, I can't refund the money. We can't refund the gift card. So we have all this money on Costco gift cards.
And no machine at this point. So we search and we find one that we wanted. And the only one that she settled on was the biggest one they had that weighs 350 pounds. So again, if I get back from Arizona and I don't show up the day I'm supposed to be back. on the couch and in turn crushed and killed by our new washing machine. But you got washed and dried. It's got washed and dry. So we'll see how it goes, I guess.
The technology is crazy because what this thing will do, you download the app to your phone and you can control the washing machine from your telephone. Now you can play games with it. Yeah, and then when the thing's done, your phone tells you it's finished, and the door...
automatically opens up on the thing so you don't have to worry about mildew or anything like that within the drum. Yeah, it is pretty cool. And being able to do the washer and dry thing in one machine, you don't ever have to switch a load so you can throw it in and then go to bed. And when you wake up...
It's ready to go. Or you can leave for work and turn it on. And when you come home, the load's done. And you go downstairs and pick it up. If you go downstairs and pick it up after it falls through the roof into the entryway, kills myself and both dogs, at least we'll have clean towels. You will. All right, it's 533. We'll be right back.

The president announced a 90-day pause on tariffs for roughly 75 countries that did not issue retaliatory tariffs and said that the U.S. raised the tariff charge to China to 125%.
This comes after Trump implemented tariffs on several other nations on April 2nd, sending shockwaves across international markets, and markets immediately responded by surging following the president's announcement. Remember I told you yesterday, if you have stocks, hang on. That's just my opinion. I mean, if you want to sell, go ahead. But this was a temporary thing while the market decided how it wanted to deal with the tariff situation.
And since the president decided to call a pause, the markets rebounded big time. The Dow was up 2,700 points. So that's a big jump. It also went down a lot too. it's not back to where it was But in fact, I'll tell you where it is now, where it was, where it ended. The Dow... was at 40,608. So it's about 2,000 points lower than where it was. And the NASDAQ also came back up. 1,800 points. I'm sorry, the Dow ended up almost 3,000.
which is just an amazing growth. In terms of percentages, the Dow was up 7.87%, and the NASDAQ was up 12%. 0.16%. So that's quite a rebound, and let's see what happens tomorrow. All right, let's go to Robert. Hi, Robert. Hey, Mike, I've got some good news for you. I don't know how many people know this, but there's a commune in Kasilof out there in the Kenai that has, they live off the land, like a commune does, and they grow their own vegetables, and guess what they use for fertilizer?
They used human waste? Yes. Yeah, I'm glad I was told that in case they offered me a salad for lunch. There's no amount of washing that's going to clean that salad. So, you know, if they can do it here, you know, and the people look pretty healthy to me, and they had a lot of little kids, and they must have been eating everything too, and the kids look very healthy. Jumping and running around like they had some kind of uppers or something. They had plenty of energy and everything.
And, you know, and I believe they'll make their own vegetables or grow their own vegetables. And I believe they live pretty close to the beach, so they must have a fishing permit. And they get a whole bunch of salmon and preserve that. And there they go. Well, I mean, you know, more power to them if that's what they want to do. And you wish people well. But I really don't think I would want to eat the vegetables.
I just don't. I guess we've been doing it, whether we know it or not. There's some things that we get, Mike, in the stores that no one tells us. you know, how they grew it, you know. So... I guess we could survive, but if you don't know, that might make it easier to do. But I've seen people that do it here in Alaska, and they seem to be okay.
But I wouldn't want to do it unless I had to. Yep, exactly. Robert, thank you for that. I'm going to send Crash down there to get some salads. Yeah, go get a sample. Okay, take care. Bye. Thanks, Rob. Yeah, I want you to go down there, Crash, and pick up some...
Okay, I'll see you later. Yeah, and then just take them home and don't tell your lovely wife. Just feed them to the family and just point and laugh the whole time. Yeah, and then watch them eat it. Yeah, then I'll tell them later and find a new place to live. And then someone would probably kill you. I can't even imagine what would happen in my life.
That's something. Say you bought those unbeknownst to you, and then you fed them to your family, and then you found out later what they were. That's just something you have to take to your grave. Yeah, you don't tell them anything. No, absolutely not. It makes it more fun, too, though, because, you know, you can just snicker under your breath all the time and know what you've, unbeknownst to yourself, done to the people you supposedly love.
There's all sorts of jokes that come to mind at this point, but we do value our license. Yes. So we'll not say anything. There was an unruly passenger. who attempted to barge into the cockpit, forcing a Milan-bound flight to return to New York. hours into the journey, and it left fellow travelers terrified when the incident erupted while cruising over the Atlantic Ocean.
American Airlines Flight 198 departed from JFK International Airport around 7 p.m. on Monday, but the pilot announced four hours later... that one of the roughly 300 passengers aboard was causing a wreck. Now, that must be something in the rule book. If you're causing a ruckus. No ruckus allowed. No ruckus. You don't want anybody causing a ruckus. No, you don't. At 30,000 feet. No, you don't. According to passengers on board, a deranged man. This gets better. You're flying tonight, aren't you?
Yes, I am. thought about it until just now. What do you think I'm reading this for? You're an evil man. It's a deranged man sitting in the back of the aircraft reportedly threw a fit. when he did not receive his preferred meal and was told he couldn't sit in an exit row with a baby. Oh, so he had a baby, too? Well, the way the sentence is structured, maybe the baby was in the exit row with her mom or its mom, and he wanted to sit there. Oh, God.
Why would you want to sit next to a baby on an airplane? I don't know, but it was an exit row. That's probably why he wanted to sit there. Maybe more leg room, I guess. The ordeal escalated when the man charged at flight attendants. and then rushed toward the front of the plane where he attempted to barge into the capital. Well, that's not good. We kind of noticed a scuffle in the back, said one passenger.
They were asking around if there were any police officers or army members. That's always never good to hear that. Or somebody who could help because... There were no air marshals on board. See, that's the thing, though. Air travel has become incidents on airplanes. I don't want to say they're commonplace, but they're definitely a lot more common than they used to be.
So I think it's kind of understood on the plane that if something, God forbid, does happen, the passengers are going to have to do something. They're going to have to deal with it. You're going to have to do something about it. And I think everybody knows that. I mean, so if you are planning on causing a ruckus,
while traveling through the air, you're probably going to catch a beating from your fellow passengers. At the very least, it's just in-flight entertainment. You're on a five-hour flight, kind of bored. You watched all the movies, read all your magazines.
It's time for the ruckus. Yeah, it's time for the ruckus. You've read the in-flight pamphlet 8,000 times. They don't have any more of those in-flight sky... sky mail or sky mall remember those things yeah you could go do a little bit of shopping when you're on the airplane well now what you do is if you wanted your phone yeah and then you buy the in-flight wi-fi yeah
That's one thing about traveling internationally. You got it for free. Yeah, but when we came back from Japan, there was no Wi-Fi on the flight. Because you were coming over nothing. We're over nothing but water. There's no place for us to get a Wi-Fi signal from. All the in-flight entertainment, the movies and podcasts and stuff like that's all free. That's kind of nice. I hate to fly, but the international flight back from Japan to Seattle was gorgeous. And then you leave someplace like Japan.
And then you come back to the U.S. Don't get me wrong. God bless America. But you really do notice the difference. You leave an airport in Japan and everyone is polite and quiet. And then you go to SeaTac and it's like a mob scene. Well, you can always tell the Alaska. Yeah, they're headed back to Alaska. They're wearing flip-flops. You can just take a look. That guy's going to Alaska. I'll just follow him. Yeah, that's my flight.
Security, going through security in Japan, all the people that work at the airport are very polite and they're nice to you. And then you hit, you know, an airport that goes to US and A and everyone's screaming at each other. Everyone's being searched and it's a completely different animal. Yeah. A lot of screaming and gnashing of teeth. Yes. Anyway, the plane turned around. at 3.30 in the morning and went back to JFK. It was supposed to go to the Malpensa Aeropuerto in Italy.
And that's where you want to go. I guess so. You want to land at that airport. So anyway, the people were not happy. In fact, the FAA has recorded more than 1,800 unruly passenger incidents last year. That's a lot. When we were flying back from Arizona last time I went there, there wasn't a ruckus, I guess, but two people did get kicked off the plane before we took off for being inebriated. Yeah, that... It's a dangerous thing to have a five-hour layover and nothing to do in an airport. A drink.
Now, I'm expecting that you're going to behave yourself on the plane. Well, yeah, this time I have to because when I land, I'm landing in, ultimately, at the end of the trip, I've got a stop in Los Angeles. But when I land in Las Vegas, I have to do this driving. So I'm going to have to land sober for the first time in my life. So you're going to LAX, too? Yeah, that's right. I got like a 90-minute stop there, and then I head to Arizona. Okay, that's a lot of fun.
LAX. It's been many, many, many. I'm not going to say happy hours there, but many hours there. And then I'm going to spend my last night there in Boulder City at my sister's house. Apparently we're doing something called a wine walk. Oh, well, then it depends on... It'll be good for the first couple of blocks, and then me knowing me, it's going to be a wine crawl. That's what it's going to end up. A wine piggyback, that type of deal.
All right. It is 549. Let's take our break. We'll come right back. K-E-N-I. Looking at your Alaska total traffic cameras on this Wednesday evening. There is now steady and heavy traffic all around the Anchorage. A chance that some snow stays with us through at least tomorrow before we see drier conditions into our Friday. Temperatures slowly warming as we top out back in the low to mid. For Alaska's weather source, I'm meteorologist Aaron Morrison. Now, back to the Mike Porcaro Show.
