Oh, yeah, it's snowing outside, and it's snowing pretty good here up at the Ponderosa. Some reasonably good-sized flakes. 34 degrees, 39 in Palmer, 37 in Sildatna, 35 in Homer, 42 in Talkeet, and 28 in Fairbanks. Prudhoe checks in at 5, Seattle 52, New York 38, and a freeze warning. 57 in Akaroa, New Zealand. Pensacola is 68. Tampa is 66. Tifton, Georgia, 65 in Lake Havasu, where crash will be soon. It's 92.
This, you know, what can I say? We usually have snow in April. But after the winter we've had, I didn't think we were going to see snow until next year. or at least later this year. So did you do any shoveling? No, there wasn't enough. Don't you have, like, one of those fancy snow shovel blower things? Yeah, we do have a snow blower, if that's what you're referring to.
No, I thought you had like an electric shovel, too. Yeah, we have one of those. We use that for the back deck. But mostly what I use it for is to throw it in the snow bag when my daughter's in the backyard and hurl the buried dog poop at her. Okay. Well, I mean, you know. But we have.
we have a small driveway it's a two-car drive we could fit two cars in the driveway and we had two cars in the driveway so it snowed all night and we woke up and the pavement was bare because the car the cars covered the whole thing Yeah, but I swipe that into the neighbor's yard. You're all hard, aren't you? I go across the cul-de-sac and I park in somebody else's driveway and then shovel the snow off the car in their driveway and then drive my car back to my clean driveway.
You're the guy everyone wants to live next to. Absolutely. No, I don't care. I've lived in this place longer than anyone else that lives in my cul-de-sac, so I figure it's mine. Do they do a land acknowledgement for you when you walk? You walk down the street. No, I'm the a-hole that parks in the middle of the cul-de-sac, and some Karen keeps leaving a note on my car when I do that. You're not allowed to park in the cul-de-sac. It's inconvenient, inconsiderate, and illegal.
And whoever does this, they have enough of these where they put them in sandwich bags so they don't get wet when they put them underneath my windshield wiper. Right. So whenever I don't know who's doing it. So whenever it gets done, I pull the thing out from my windshield wiper. I yell, hey, you and stand in the middle of the cul-de-sac with two middle fingers in the air.
Again, you're the guy everyone wants to live next year. A few years ago, it was the middle of winter, and my hot water heater needed some help, so I had to drain it. And since, you know, most driveways or front yards have the sewer in there so you can pull the lid off. But it was frozen over in the middle of winter.
So I'm the guy out in the middle of the cul-de-sac in my bathrobe with a garden hose shooting hot water out into the middle of the cul-de-sac in the middle of the winter while drinking a beer at 9 in the morning. Everybody's going, don't look, children. That's, you know, open robe, that type of deal. Out there with my slippers, smoking a cigar. Again, you're the guy everybody wants to live across the cul-de-sac.
Well, tonight is an assembly meeting, and Karen Bronga introduced a couple of ordinances. AO 2025-25 and another one, AO 2025-28. The first ordinance... It would hold parents or guardians criminally liable if a child in their care brings a gun or deadly weapon to school. or school-related events introduced as a response to a growing concern over youth access to firearms. The proposal stipulates that liability applies if the weapon was originally possessed.
It was in the original possession of an adult. The second one was under consideration requires gun owners to report lost or stolen firearms to law enforcement within 48 hours of discovering it missing. It's modeled after similar laws in other states. This proposal goes far beyond the federal mandate for reporting licensed firearms to dealers. Meanwhile, in advance of all of this, She issued the following statement.
When I introduced these ordinances, I set out to start a meaningful conversation among community stakeholders and the public about the safety of our children in a society with access to deadly weapons. These are stressful times which call for local action to promote a culture of safety and accountability.
I want to thank everyone who has offered their insights on this topic and engaged in this dialogue. Based on your feedback, it is my intent to postpone... both ordinances indefinitely and replace AO 2025-25 with a resolution which calls upon our community to encourage gun safety. I think everybody's for that, Karen, don't you? It's my sincere hope that substituting the ordinance with this resolution grounds our discussion in real solutions to make our schools and community safer.
within the existing parameters and foster meaningful dialogue with all stakeholders toward the commitment from the state to care, protect, and help our youth succeed. The unnumbered resolution is set to be laid on the table, which means who knows what, during the meeting tonight. A public education campaign about gun safety and parental responsibility is what the assembly is looking to support. This would be coordinated in a partnership between the school district and the police.
A violence interruption program for schools found to have increased incidents involving deadly weapons. that probably could be called prison, common sense gun legislation through the Alaska State Legislature. Common sense in the Alaska State Legislature. That is an oxymoron, I think. A call to parents to teach gun safety, safety store weapons, safely store weapons and encourage open lines of communication.
Okay, again, don't tell me how to raise my family, how to raise my kids, how to live in my community. I'll make those determinations. And chances are we'll come up with a better... solution than what the assembly or anybody else is promising. The nanny state, just unbelievable. So she tries to put an ordinance in. She's getting feedback that says, no, this is really not a good idea. Then she pulls it back, and now she wants to pass this resolution, which is completely and utterly...
Who's for gun safety? Tell me, I'll tell you what, who's not for gun safety? Let me see a show of hands. That's what I thought. Everybody's for gun safety. We'll be right back. Call Mike and crash now. Be a part of the show on News Radio 650 KENI. Looking at your Alaska total traffic cameras on a Tuesday afternoon. Traffic looks to be moving fairly well around the Anchorage Bowl. A few minor slowdowns out there. Currently, it looks like Bragastri.
Hey, go ahead. Hello, Mike. Are you there? Yeah, I'm here. Yes, that demonstration last week in Anchorage on the street, was that a totally Democratic and Rhino exhibition? I believe so. Yeah, I think that that's supposed to be grassroots, but I understand that... It was organized. And I think some of these people that, and I know this, I don't know if the people that were here demonstrating
are part of this group, but there is a group that George Soros funds. These people even have health insurance. They're professional protesters. My goodness. Wasn't quite sure of the dynamics involved there, but it seems to me that the swamp is draining and the alligators are starting to consume one another. Yeah, they don't really have a mission. They don't really have a story to tell.
What's their story? They hate Trump? Okay, I got it. You didn't like Trump? You didn't vote for Trump? I got it. So what else is new? So what's their solution to the problems that they believe are there? I don't see any. I don't either. It looks like it's just going to be constant obstructionism for the current administration. Yeah, that's what they're doing. There was a guy, a professor from Princeton.
African-American gentleman who essentially called everybody that voted for Trump a racist because they didn't want to vote for a black woman. Now, it had nothing to do with the blood. She was an idiot. I'm sorry. I mean, it doesn't make any difference whether she was white or black or whatever. She could not do the job. She was incapable. of even putting two English sentences together, let alone running anything. I think everybody in the country saw that, and you're correct, yeah.
So, I mean, race had nothing to do with this. And for somebody who supposedly is a professor at Princeton, if he can't see that... then I would question his employability. It would be like, what are you talking about? You're supposed to be a professor who can reason and think. There is no reasoning and thinking there. All that he did was call 78 million people racist.
And another topic, the PFD seems to be on gavel-to-gavel here a lot in the last few days. And I'm wondering, why does the state of Alaska... not take it to the Supreme Court of the United States. There's a law in the books that says they're supposed to follow that formula. And the legislature has been breaking the law for, what, 10 years? Yeah, you know, I don't know. Somebody would have to do that. Somebody would have to have standing. There would have to be a reason for the Supreme Court.
To be involved in it, they might just say it's a state issue and go somewhere else. Well, we got a pack of 60 criminals down, well, maybe 40 criminals down there, and they've so far robbed us out of about 20 grand. They have, and this nonsense about putting the permanent fund up against education. If you have a permanent fund, you can't have education. Well, I'll tell you what. Where is the education? Exactly. We're 50 yet.
And you're telling me that you need to put more money into something that's 50th? 1959, 1960, 61 through the 65th and 6th. We had number one and number two in the United States for academic achievement in school, high school. Yes. And... Now the kids can't read their, and they want to pour more money on it. This is just ludicrous. Well, when you ask them, Jay, you ask them a question, what are you going to do to improve things? They say, we need more money. And no, you had more money.
I understand that there's inflation and all of this other stuff. But the amount of money that they're asking for does not equate to anything that's tangible or immeasurable. Where is it that money equals outcome? It doesn't work that way. No, they poured money after money after money on it. What we have here is in our 40, the last 40 years, the socialists.
I guess that's the right term, can't call them commies, have had control of your school district. And now what you're seeing is two generations of those kind of people that are thinking like that, moving along into our government. Yep, that's exactly what's happening. And then after the influx of the people coming from the United States and around Seattle, San Francisco area, people ought to take a lesson from Antelope, Oregon, where the Moonies moved in and took over the city.
Well, they have taken over our city. Our city is about as blue as it can get in terms of its governance. I don't believe the city is blue, but this is who we have. Nobody seems to kick them out. They just continue to elect these people. Yeah, it was supposed to be a citizen government. They weren't supposed to retire in there. Well, unfortunately, it's become a job, a profession. Yeah. Well, thank you, Mike, for the time. Thank you, Jay. All right, 426. Speaking of resistance.
We've got a couple of great stories. There's one about Navy Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield. Now, a Navy Vice Admiral, you would think, okay, great. This lady has been in military service for 38 years. Okay, and she has degrees from Boston University, a degree in international relations in French. She's earning a master's in public administration from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. and a doctorate in education from the University of San Francisco. And she was a pilot.
She earned a bronze star. She has a pretty exemplary record when you start reading about her. But she's woke. And she's more than woke. But she did something that got her fired. And when we come back, I'll tell you what it is. Stay with us. Call Mike. Call Crash. Call 907-522-0650.
Nearly a dozen American Samoan residents in Alaska are being accused of voter misconduct. Alaska's news source says 10 members of an American Samoan family in Whittier have been charged with voter misconduct and perjury.
The family members are U.S. nationals who were born in American Samoa, which is a U.S. territory, but they cannot vote in U.S. elections unless they are a citizen. The Electric Association has begun work to fell hundreds of trees on the Anchorage hillside, working to clear easements. From the Diamond area, O'Malley area is a little bit of Bear Valley.
The trees will be cleared from 20-foot wide utility easements along the stretch of hillside aimed at reducing the chances of trees falling on power lines and causing outages. Alaska North Slope oil prices are down. The Department of Revenue says prices fell to under $68 a barrel to start the week. Below the state budget projections, nationwide things have come back after U.S. crude fell below $60 a barrel.
That's the latest. I'm Jack Cronin. This is NewsRadio 650. KENI Anchorage. Looking at the Alaska total traffic cameras on a Tuesday afternoon. All right, so Navy Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield. is a U.S. military representative to NATO, the military committee. She was relieved of her duties over the weekend following reports that she refused to hang portraits of President Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth at NATO headquarters.
She reportedly told military staff that they would wait out the Trump administration, an indication of passive resistance. Now, I don't know if she has taken leave of her senses, but she's a vice admiral in the United States Navy. The question that one would ask her is, who is the commander-in-chief? It would be the President of the United States, whoever that is. And your allegiance is to the Constitution.
This is what you're supposed to do. Follow the Constitution, follow the protocols, follow the orders. And it is something that you hang the picture of the president and the defense secretary in your office. Or wherever it's supposed to be hung in your facility. And that's it. You hang it. I mean, that's not a big ask, is it? Sources say that she held an all-hands meeting and told the staff, we'll wait them out for four years, implying the strategy that they're going to do what they want.
The details have been unconfirmed at this point. Sources familiar with the situation suggest her refusal to hang the portraits combined with her prior advocacy for diversity initiatives. And of course, the president has gotten rid of those. He made her a target of Defense Secretary Hegseth, who has vowed to eliminate wokeness from the military. This is just kind of indicative of how some people view their position.
You are working for the United States Navy. You're in that position supposedly because of your skills. and your service, and what you have given to the Navy, and what you have given to the country. And you don't own the position. You're in it. And you're supposed to serve. Isn't that what is called the service? I'm flabbergasted that a person of this stature would throw away her career on something like this.
As a military officer, you're supposed to obey, in fact, everybody in the military is supposed to obey a legal order. And as far as I can see, this is pretty simple. And for her to throw her career away says something about her judgment, at least to me. So we probably, if this is how she feels and she wants to put politics before the chain of command and before her obedience to the Constitution, then I guess maybe she's in the wrong job.
Her ouster is the ninth firing of a senior military officer and a fourth woman since Trump's return to office. It follows the dismissals of figures like Admiral Lisa Franchetti, The first female chief of naval operations, General Timothy Hawk, who is the National Security Agency, signaling an intensifying purge of leaders perceived to be out of step with the administration's agenda. That's where we are. And you just have to wonder.
What goes through the minds of some of these folks? But don't leave it there. This is also something that judges are doing. You wonder about... What sort of worldview some of these folks have? They have an outsized appreciation for their own power. You're a district court judge. Yes, you're powerful. We have placed a great deal of trust in you. But that doesn't mean you're the president of the United States.
The federal judge who blocked the Trump administration's use of a 1798 wartime law... to immediately deport Venezuela nationals, canceled the planned Tuesday court hearing to review the case after the Supreme Court handed the president a win. At issue is the case where Trump's use of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 wartime immigration law to immediately deport Venezuelan nationals, including alleged members of the Trendy Aragua gang.
Plaintiffs filed an emergency restraining order in D.C. last month to temporarily block the administration's use of the law, a request granted by Judge Bosford. who agreed that the deportations would likely cause imminent and irreparable harm to the affected immigrants under the proposed timeline. A federal appeals court also upheld the ruling. In fact, one of the justices said the Nazis got better treatment. And you have to wonder about that judge's state of sanity.
The lower court's restraining order remained in effect until Monday night when the Supreme Court sided with Trump. Bozberg had been asked with reviewing the administration's use of the law to deport Venezuelan nationals. And so he canceled the hearing today. Isn't that interesting? He canceled the planned hearing today. Knowing full well that he probably, didn't probably, he did, he overstepped his authority. He's a district court judge. He's not even a Supreme Court judge. Excuse me.
And I think the Supreme Court needed to say something here, because this is going on all over the country. The Supreme Court on Tuesday, today, sided with the Trump administration and upheld the mass firings of tens of thousands of, now I'm going to say this word and I'm going to ask you what it means. Tens of thousands of probationary federal employees granting a request for an emergency administrative stay on a lower court blocking the firings. What does a probationary employee mean?
It means you have not completed the probationary period in order for you to become A full-time employee or a classified employee, whatever the position or the service happens to be. You're on probation. You're a probie, right? Okay. And under a probationary period, usually an employer has great latitude in determining whether or not they would like to keep you.
The majority of the high court ruled that the plaintiffs, nine non-profit organizations who had sued to reinstate the employees, lacked standing. The district court's injunction was based solely on the allegations of nine nonprofit organizations of the plaintiffs in the case. But under established law those allegations are presently insufficient to support the organization's standing. Justice Sotomayor and Kenji Brown Jackson.
denied the application for his study. So they were out there saying, no, they should do it. In the final brief, the Supreme Court, the government attorneys argued that the lower courts overstepped their authority, we keep hearing this time and time again, by ordering the reinstatement of probationary employees.
The legal battle stemmed from the termination of 16,000 probationary federal employees since the president took office, prompting a wave of lawsuits from Democratic-led states and former workers. Probationary employees are particularly vulnerable to termination because they lack the civil service protections granted to full-time federal workers. which typically take effect after the designated period of service when you complete the probationary period.
Justice Department lawyers have warned that forcing the government to rehire these employees would create chaos. They have also maintained that firings were tied to poor performance, an allegation dismissed by employees and employees strongly dispute. And last month, a federal judge in Baltimore ordered Trump to reinstate. probationary employees. Again, where is the authority from this judge to order such a thing?
It doesn't exist. And the Supreme Court was quite clear in telling the good justice. Okay, that's two. And there's so many more. And we have to sort this out. And it's not just because of Trump. Any president should be able to put their agenda into place. If you don't like the agenda, if you don't like the direction of the country, we have something in this country called elections, in which case you can vote them out. That's your check. We'll be right back.

That's just the beginning. Yeah, if you want to find everything they can do for you, go to the website, and it's definitely worth the trip over there where you're screwing around online, where you're supposed to be working or doing something else. Just to simply call it a print shop is doing the whole operation a disservice. It's not just the printing. They do everything involved in the print job, the creative.
You need a fleet of vehicles wrapped. They can help you come up with the design, then obviously they print, but then they wrap the vehicles. So it's everything before and after the print job is actually taking place that they can handle for you as well. One of the other benefits of hiring the folks on a PIP to do the work for you is you're going to deal with
deal with the same person through the entirety of the job being done. What I mean by that is they'll sign you a personal sales rep, which means you're dealing with the same person every single time you check in on the job. They've been there from day one.
from the ground floor so they know everything there is to know about the job they're doing for you the website is a great resource for you uh tons of drop-down menus on the website believe me they need all the real estate to explain everything they can do for you but The first place you're going to want to go is the portfolio section. That's the gallery section on the website.
Literally thousands of pictures there. I mean, the proof is right there for you. A testament to the great job they do. They celebrated their 45th anniversary last year. Even more impressive when you think about where they started from. It started as a two-person operation, obviously, to grow as much as they have.
They're not just surviving, they're thriving. And now they take up like two and a half blocks on 4th Avenue. So it goes without saying, if you're dealing with a different printer, you're doing yourself a disservice. You're just flat out doing it wrong. Hire the folks on a PIP to do the work for it. You'll go back time and time again. They are that good. They're known as Alaska. printer for good reason. They're better than everybody else. See for yourself on their website, pipalaska.com.
Call them at 907-274-3584. That's 907-274-3584. Pip. I got a note here from Roy regarding... Rear Admiral or Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatsfield, who got fired because she didn't want to put up pictures of Trump and Hexas. And she was, I guess, very woke. This is from Roy. He says, all those degrees she has and yet so stupid. Proof just because one has degrees doesn't make them smart. They should court-martial her and take away her retirement. She apparently did not follow a direct order.
or do what she was supposed to do in her job, and essentially say, I'll just wait the president out. I have no idea where someone thinks they're going to wait the commander-in-chief out when they work for the commander-in-chief, as well as the people of the United States, certainly. But her fealty is to the Constitution. And she didn't live up to that, in my opinion. You just don't get to decide if you don't like the guy. You're not going to listen to him or obey orders.
What kind of a military would we have if that were the case? I mean, there were plenty of people in the military that didn't think Biden, oh, heck, Biden, we didn't even know Biden knew who he was. He thought he was head of NATO, for goodness sakes. But people followed orders. That's what you do. And if there's a question about the fitness of the person giving the orders, then that's a question for people who have a high pay grade.
And that should be dealt with. But apparently when the Democrats were in office, they didn't even deal with it. What they did, and I'm going to say this because now it's pretty much pretty self-evident, they lied about it. They covered it up. until they couldn't cover it up anymore. And even his closest advisors. I saw a story today crash. And you said this after that debate. I remember you saying this.
You said, oh, he probably said, man, nailed it, got it. And he did. He thought that. Who, Biden? Yeah, yeah. I think that that lends itself. The fact that he probably did do that lends itself to the fact that he wasn't all there, for lack of a better term. I'm trying to be insensitive, but I don't know the phrase to come up with. Well, yeah. I don't wish him any ill or anything. I don't either. But the fact that he was probably happy with his performance.
And truthful afterwards, when he said, I think I did a good job, that just lends credence to the idea that he was having cognitive issues for quite some time. So yeah, he would go on there. And for me, the death knell of... I forget who said it. It was one of the political pundits who said it was like watching Mike Tyson fight. There's all this, back in the day when I was younger, there's all this buildup for this big fight that's going to happen. Everyone can't wait to see it.
You pay your money, you sit down, you get your popcorn. Here we go. I've been waiting for this forever. And boom, the fight's over in 20 seconds. That's what that debate was. The fight was over in 20 seconds. At one point, he said something fairly nonsensical, and then they asked Trump to respond.
And President Trump said, I have no idea what Joe said. And furthermore, I don't think Joe has any idea what Joe just said. That was it. That was it. The fight was over at that point because then the camera goes back to Joe Biden and he's just kind of standing there. you know, with his half smile looking off into nowhere. It was over. And after that happened, even his most ardent supporters had no recourse. There was no defense. And when I say that, it's not like Biden did anything wrong.
the debate he just was over his skis it was done it was apparent that they had to go a different direction and unfortunately for the Democratic Party the different direction they went in was one of the biggest failures in the history of modern free election Well, and I mentioned this Princeton professor. who said that we didn't vote for Kamala Harris because she was a black female. which is nonsense. It's absolutely nonsense. I can't speak for other people.
I didn't vote for her because I thought she was a terrible candidate. It didn't have anything to do with gender or skin color. No. I thought she was a terrible candidate, and I thought she would have been an even worse president. She came into that race, that election cycle, with the reputation...
and horrible vice president. You have to work really hard to be considered a bad vice president. Your only job is, as you said, to stay alive. Stay alive. That's it. Right. That's your job. Every time they let her talk, it just got worse and worse. I mean, both times Trump has won. You had the people, obviously, in my opinion, you had the people that came out in droves to vote for him because...
You can debate the size of his base. There's no debating the fact that the people that love him, it's a different type of thing. His base is just insanely loyal to him. So those people were going to vote for him no matter what happened. But he said it numerous times. Every time he would do something and you'd think to yourself, well, this is it. It's over. He's torpedoed himself. The people that loved him before he did whatever it was he did for whatever reason loved him more.
You had those people who voted for him, but there was a lion's share of people. In both of the elections he won that didn't necessarily just vote for him. They voted against the other candidate. The Democrats, the Hillary, the last one, it was a failure in every sense of the word. Yeah, it was an interesting lesson in politics, for sure.

Yes. Yes, Johnny, you're absolutely right. And if you can't do that, then you shouldn't be in the military.
Because that's a problem. Think about that. I don't like the guy. I'm not going to listen to him. Well, no. It doesn't work that way. You have to. It's called the chain of command. As long as it's a legal order. And, you know, if you've got an illegal order, then that's up to you to go and tell them why. And then they'll determine it. You know, if you were looking to make your house more beautiful and safer and just all around just better,
Now let me suggest you get a hold of the good people at ABC Singless. Singless Steel Siding, well, it's really great because... more protection from the harsh winter elements. It will be long-lasting. It's built with superior products. It's top-notch. It's reliable, and it's installed by experts, and they can do it any time of the year, by the way. And they fabricate it right on site. It has unparalleled durability. The siding is constructed from heavy gauge hot dip G90 galvanized steel.
making it far more robust than vinyl or wood. It's a very dependable product. It's easy to upkeep. Steel construction resists warping and fading and cracking and will never need to be scraped or painted. And it comes in a ton of colors. That's just some of the things they do, but they do so much more. Yeah, pretty much anything that has to do with improving the curb appeal of your house, the look of the exterior of your home.
They can handle it. They do the steel siding Mike mentioned. They also do the gutters, the gutter helmet. And if you're looking into the steel siding, I highly suggest at least looking into the gutters because they can hang it all at the same time. They fabricate everything right there on site so everything's going to fit nice. But the colors will match up and all that jazz. And if you're going to do the gutters, you want to look in the gutter helmet. Definitely.
Because it's an investment you're making in your home and you want it to last as long as humanly possible. And the benefit to the gutter helmet is twofold as it stops everything except for water from flowing through the gutters. They last longer and you don't have to clean them. So you're going to want to look into that as well. efficient doors and windows they do roofing projects again anything that has to do with the exterior of your home
they can handle it. I don't expect you to take my word for it. Go to the website, check it out for yourself, abcseamlessalaska.com. If that's your big summer project to paint the exterior of your home before anybody opens a can of paint or you hire anybody to slop any of the paint on the outside of your house, Get a hold of the folks at ABCC. It's a great alternative.
It looks great when they hang it, and the difference between this and freshly painted wood is it looks like freshly painted wood 30 years down the road, and the wood doesn't look so great. So, again, it's a great alternative. Highly recommend it. Check it out online. All you need to know right there on the website, abcseamlessalaska.com.
And give them a call. You'll find that these guys and gals are just absolutely a joy to work with. They know their business. They do it well. And they're just nice people, too. 907-646-2228. That's 907-646-2228. They've done a bunch of work here at the Ponderosa, and Mrs. P absolutely loves them. She said, these are great people to work with.
She's so satisfied with what they do, the product, the workmanship, and just the way these people go about their business. They're just great folks. ABC Seamless. All right, it is 5.13. And, Crash, we've been talking about this with Senator Myers yesterday. The North Slope crude oil price has dropped 12.7% in the past seven days. It sold for $77.33 a barrel at the end of March and then fell $9.85 in one week to $67.48 a barrel on Monday.
Now, in addition to that, and I think Senator Myers made this statement, eight oil-producing nations have said they're going to boost production. to the price of oil. Everybody seems to be concerned about the stock market. The stock market is going to come back It always does. The economy is good. Is the country going to go out of business? No. If you have stock, if you have equities, just say, Hang on. Just hang on.
It will come back, and you'll have a chance to see whether or not Trump's tariff idea is going to bring people to the table. He's already got 70 countries wanting to sit down and make a deal. It just takes, you know, takes a little time. But the real issue for Alaska isn't so much the stock market, you know, although the permanent fund has taken a bit of a hit. That's a longer term thing. The stock market will come back way before the oil prices will come back, I think.
And so you have to kind of look at this and say, what is the state going to do? Now, I've heard all sorts of stuff about, you know. Revenue enhancements. What does that mean? That's a tax. You know, they want to raise taxes on everything. That's not the way you run this government. That's not the way you run an efficient organization.
So let's assume you raise taxes. Okay, it's the government. Crash, has the government ever raised taxes enough to say we're fine now, we don't need to raise taxes anymore? Yeah, right. You know, I mean, look at your assembly for goodness sakes. These people are insatiable. You can never feed this beast. The only way you can control the beast is to not feed it. And that means not give them any money because they're going to spend it. In fact, they spend stuff they don't even have.
That's crazy. I wish I could do that. But you can't. Eventually, you have to pay the piper. There needs to be some sort of reckoning here. Sitka Republican Senator Burt Steadman. who is the co-chair of the Senate Finance Committee, said he was watching closely as the Trump administration signaled it wanted oil prices to drop. To keep inflation in check. Yes, that's right. If transportation costs are low.
If the cost of getting something from point A to point B drops because the fuel prices drop or energy prices drop to heat your home or cool your home or whatever, it's going to put more money into your pocket. He said, that's why we're adamant about holding the line on this budget year. Now, does the good senator, he didn't say it, but is he intimating that they're going to do something cut? Are they going to use the cut word? Are they going to cut anything?
I don't think so. That might be a good way to start, to become more responsible. But instead, all they want to do is spend money. and they set up the straw man of the PFD crash, what they do is they say, well, we can't pay that money. If you want education, can't have the permanent fund dividend. Nope, can't do it. How is it that over 30 plus years we were able to do both? We had a formula, right? You remember that when it started.
Nobody seems to remember this. It worked. When you had good years, you got paid more. When you had bad years, you got paid less. And this might be one of those years where we would get paid less. I don't know. But it was a rolling five-year average, and it seemed to work just fine until it was tampered with by Governor Walker. And then the court said, well, no, it's not really a...
A transfer, it's an appropriation, so the legislature got its mitts on it, and forever now it has been a political football. And what have they done? They are paralyzed with this thing. Anyway, that's what's going on in Juneau. There isn't enough money to pay for what they want to pay for, so they're going to have to figure out what to do. We'll see. We'll be back. How can you spark great learning experiences in your classrooms today?
Join at thinkitup.org. Areas of rain and snow. Stay with us for the foreseeable future with some additional accumulation. Better chance for snow will be into the evening hours, overnight into the mornings, with those temperatures steadily warming back into the 40s. For Alaska's weather source, I'm meteorologist Aaron Morrison. Alright, well, last time I was down there, last week, it was, I mean, all the dust was just unbelievable, unbearable, actually.
And I kept thinking, why don't they just clean the parking lot? Well, well, what do I know? They're smarter than I because they left all that dust and dirt on the parking lot. It's kind of good now because you need it for a little traction. Yeah, well, my little weather app says it's supposed to snow for the next hour or so and then quit and then start up again for a little bit tomorrow.
What is going on? Now, it's supposed to rain next week, too, right? It's supposed to get at least one day of rain next week. Well, it would be really nice if winter decided to actually go away. But again, it's still early. You know, I mean, we're still, we got spoiled.
you know, for the last few weeks. There was no snow on the ground. We had more snow yesterday than we had in the last month and a half. Yeah, no kidding. I mean, it's just crazy. In April, in January, we had no snow, and it was warm. Right. And now in April, you know, we get snow for Easter. Every year we get snow for Easter. It's true. We should change the song to I'm Dreaming of a White Easter.
Well, Socialist Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was photographed flying first class to a Bernie Sanders event last month, with critics saying it shows how she battles inequity one mimosa at a time. I love when these liberals, these progressives, these socialists end up getting caught. Living the good life when they're telling everybody well, you know, we're fighting for you
You know, we understand paycheck to paycheck. We understand, you know, the fight you have to go through every day. And we're going to stop these oligarchs from telling you what to do. The Trumps and the Musks and all these bad people. As an incredulous passenger snapped AOC getting comfy. in the roomy first-class cabin of JetBlue Flight 511 on March 19th, a departed JFK Airport for Las Vegas, where she spoke at a Sanders rally, entitled Fighting...
Oligarchy. I know all about oligarchs. I are one. The next day, the equity-sprouting darling from the far left... Headline, Fighting Oligarchy, rallies along with her socialist comrade, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont in North Las Vegas and at Arizona State University. Nothing says power to the people like ignoring voters.
looking to say hello and reclining in first class while tweeting about income equality, the flyer who took the photo told the New York Post, claiming that AOC did not respond to a friendly comment once she sat down. First class, one mimosa at a time, the passenger said. And what else can you say? The congresswoman, whose 14th district includes parts of the Bronx and Queens.
And I know the part of the Bronx that she supposedly lives in or said she lives in, the people there, it's tough. It's a tough life there. They're not drinking mimosas. She's seen the snap leaning over, to take a snapshot, leaning over her seat apparently to grab a look at something, a man sitting next to her. The first class seat. on JetBlue weekdays costs upwards of $1,100.
First class seats on planes also have been widely derided by climate change activists because they typically produce many times more carbon emissions. of an economy seat since they take up more room, thus reducing the number of people able to fly. Some New York politicians said the regal traveling by AOC, a rabid climate change protester, is just the latest example of hypocrisy. Wow.
Really? Oh, my goodness. So here she is fighting oligarchy. And she's flying first class... blowing carbon all over the earth and doing it one mimosa at a time. Way to go, AOC. You and Comrade Sanders are true to yourselves. Of course, Bernie is telling everybody that... We need to tighten our belts, and Elon Musk is a bad guy, and he has too much money. And then somebody really needs to ask Bernie how much money he has and how many homes he has.
Not that I'm begrudging Bernie a thing. It's just that he seems to be begrudging other people something. So if you're an oligarch, he's against you. But maybe he's against himself, too. I don't know. We'll be back. Juno is moving forward with plans for a fifth. cruise ship dock. That's the latest. I'm Jack Cronin. This is News Radio 650. KENI Anchorage. Looking at your Alaska total traffic cameras on this Tuesday evening? There is now steady and heavy traffic all around the Anchorage Bowl. AOC likes everyone to think that she was born around Amsterdam ass. But in reality, she was born, well, she lived in Westchester County.
Yorktown Heights. Maybe you can give a little description of that area. Oh, it's very nice. She tries to tell everybody that she was a kid from the hood. And being a kid from the hood, I can tell you, She's not. No, she's not. Westchester County. Yeah, no, it's a very, very wealthy county. You know, nice homes, good schools, people with manners. I mean, you know, they dress nicely. They have good food. They go to restaurants.
They talk in hushed tones. Nary a discouraging word is heard. I mean, it's a whole different world. Very rarefied. Yeah, and the same thing with Bernie Sanders. You know, how many homes does he have in Vermont? I think he lives on a lake community. Yeah, he does. And Vermont's a really pretty state. I mean, it really is. Why they keep electing him, I have no idea. I have no idea. I heard that he wants to run. I mean...
She wants to run for president again? Yeah, that he wants to run for president and she would be the vice president. How long do they think these people are going to live? Well, I don't know about Bernie. He's going to outlive everybody. He should get Larry David to be his vice president. Oh, that would be beautiful. Oh, please, make it happen. I mean, you know, the only bad thing is that Trump can't run again. But can you imagine Trump and Sanders in a debate? I mean, I would pay money for that.
Yeah, they probably do in a pay, what was it? Pay review? Pay for review, yeah. Yeah. It would, oh, I would love it. I would love it. And make sure you do it on cable so they can actually use words they would use. Oh! absolutely beautiful anyway I just wanted to throw that one at you Well, yeah, she's not. They're all fake. Yeah, she's a fake. I mean, you know, let me go out there and talk about oligarchs.
and talk about people that are making it from paycheck to paycheck, but I'm going to fly out there first class, and I'm going to do all the things that I criticize everybody else for. And I'm going to ignore friendly people. Yes. Well, why not? Yeah. All right, Kathy. Thank you. All right, 538. You remember this guy? He's on the assembly. Cameron Perez Verdilla. Remember that guy? Crash? I do. He's the napper.
Yeah, he fell asleep. Remember that we played that? Yeah, there was audio of him snoring, and it was his turn to vote or contribute. And they just voted, they said not present or something like that. Yeah. He was present. He was asleep. You could hear him snoring while they were conducting business, I guess. Yeah. So, you know, hey. Well, anyway, the Alaska Humanities Forum. was informed that its federal funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities has been terminated.
The decision communicated this week is part of a shift. in federal priorities under the direction of President Trump. The NEH notified state humanities councils and other grantees that their funding is being canceled immediately to align with a new direction in furtherance of the president's agenda. Now, the Humanities Forum promotes events like, according to Mushroom Alaska, Drag Queens for Kids. and whites are not allowed conferences. Can you see why Trump is asking for a new direction?
Drag queens for kids? What is with the kids? Why do drag queens need to perform in front of children? I don't understand that. And the idea that you're holding something with public money and you're preventing whites from attending. Now, if you did that and promoted an event and barred people of color, I guess that's the terminology,
That would be wrong, wouldn't it? It's just wrong for you not to let white people in. It's wrong for you not to let Americans in to a conference that's being paid for. in part or in whole by their money. I don't know. In the meantime, It sounds as if the Humanities Forum here in Alaska is in dire straits. For people that want to see their...
then I think it's time to get the checkbook out and write some. It'll continue on public donations or what have you. I think the state of Alaska still does give money to the Humanities Forum. In 2022-23, the forum reported $2.8 million in revenues, nearly all from federal grants matched by grants from the state. And Mr. Perez Verdilla, according to this article, is getting paid about $181,000 a year to run this nonprofit. I make no judgments on the value of his leadership.
I just kind of look at some of the things that this group is doing, and I find them questionable, if not a bit reprehensible, in terms of not allowing all people to go to a conference. That's just wrong. Period. So whatever they do, they do. But if people like the Humanities Forum and they want to continue the work of the Humanities Forum, so be it. You know, go for it. Dig into your pockets and help them out. All right, it's just that simple. All right, 542.
Let's take our break now and we'll come back. Call Mike and crash now. Be a part of the show on News Radio 650 KENI. Stay with us for the foreseeable future with some additional accumulation. Better chance for snow will be into the evening hours, overnight into the mornings, with those temperatures steadily warming back into the 40s through the week. For Alaska's weather source, meteorologist Aaron Morrison. Now, back to the mic. Hello, Mr. Carlos. Thanks for taking my call. Sure.
Yeah, I just have a question maybe you and the local listeners can help me out with. It was 24th of February. that we had a terrible situation at a hotel here in Anchorage where there was a hostage situation, there was SWAT involved, there was an officer involved shooting. And since then, they've released the name of the officers, including another situation that one of the officers was involved in. But we've never heard anything about the person who was shot, the person who committed the crime.
Now, my question is, Why is there no talk of this? I've been watching, waiting. I've even called other outlets and tried to figure this out. Was this person, I don't know, illegal? Was this person a trans? Was this person all of the above, some other kind of protected species? How come we're not getting information on this? That's a good question. I don't know. Have you talked to the communications people at the police department?
Yes, they said the information is not available. I've also called other news outlets and they said they have no information at all. Is it not available because it's an ongoing investigation? I mean, that would be probably the thing that I would think off the top of my head, that if there's an ongoing investigation and they... There's some sensitive material that police will probably want to hold it back while they actually conduct their investigation. But I don't know any more about it than you.
So that would be a guess on my part, but that's what I think might be the case. Okay, yeah, that's reasonable. I just wondered if anyone has heard anything or knows anything. It seems like a pretty big situation to just kind of now just sort of has disappeared into old news, you know. Yeah, well, I mean, who knows how many others were involved if there was some, I mean, you know, I don't know. I mean, your mind can go to a lot of different places.
Was it a gang thing? Was it terrorism? So you can look at all the boxes. Sure, they'd all be good things to know, but I guess we'll wait and see. I'm just curious, and I haven't forgotten about it. It's a pretty terrible situation from everything that was disclosed. Yes. Well, maybe we'll learn some more, and if I happen to talk to somebody over there, I'll ask. Thanks. Have a good day, sir. All right. Thank you, Pat. All right. 522-0650. That is the phone number.
This is from Breitbart and from the New York Times and Breitbart. Wow. Recent incidents of vandalism targeting Tesla vehicles with swastikas has raised questions among leftists about the limits and interpretation of hate crime law. Now, who would think that the leftists would be putting swastikas on Teslas? Who would think that the left would burn Teslas? You know, would firebomb Tesla dealerships. Who would think that? These people are not violent. They believe in peaceful protest.
As violence and domestic terrorism by Trump haters against Elon Musk and Tesla escalate, many on the left are trying to excuse extreme acts of vandalism. You can't. Well, look what they did in Portland for 100 days. The New York Times reports that in recent weeks, A series of vandalism incidents involving swatstickers being drawn or carved onto Tesla vehicles in New York City has sparked a complex debate about the definition and application of hate crime laws.
While the use of swastika as a symbol of Nazi Germany and anti-Semitism would typically be considered a clear-cut case of a hate crime, the context surrounding these particular incidents has muddied the waters for leftist onlookers. Really? The vandalism appears to be targeting not the individual owners of the Tesla vehicles, but rather the company's founder and CEO, Elon Musk. Well, I got news for these guys.
When the dealer buys the car or floors the car from the Tesla company onto his dealership, he owns the car. And then he sells it to somebody. And they own the car. Well, they own the bank, maybe. Who knows? But it's not Elon Musk. This is owned by somebody private that somebody saved their money to buy a car, and they wanted to buy this car, and then some moron goes and puts a hateful symbol on it.
Critics of Musk seem to be using the swastikas to denounce him as a Nazi sympathizer, I don't know where they get that from, rather than to express support for Nazism themselves. By using that, what are they doing? As Breitbart News reported last month, Trump haters have taken to labeling Tesla EVs as Nazi-mobiles. Again, these people are just morons. They're ignorant. And Swatstick cars. after formally worshipping the brand because they believed it was going to help eliminate climate change.
The unusual conduct has put law enforcement in a difficult position as they attempt to determine whether these acts constitute hate crimes. Legal scholars note that the classification depends on factors such as the vandal's intended message and the target. If the perpetrator's motivation cannot be tied to animosity toward a protected category, such as race or religion, the vandalism may be considered political speech rather than hate speech, albeit still a criminal act of...
In New York, hate crimes are defined as offenses motivated in whole or substantial part by bias against certain personal characteristics, including race, religion, and sexual orientation, but not political beliefs. This distinction has led some to question why the police department is investigating the Tesla vandalism as potential hate crimes. Because they have to, because it says so in the statute.
And they have to determine whether or not there's hate involved beyond just the hate of destroying someone's property. That's kind of A2, isn't it? The issue is further complicated by the fact that political affiliation is a protected category. in some jurisdictions such as Washington DC
where a series of similar incidents involving Teslas was investigated as political hate speech. However, this protection is not universal, and the lack of consistency in hate crime laws across the different states and cities can lead to confusion. How about this? You put a swastika on a car. You vandalize it. You carve it into a car. You vandalize it. You burn it. You vandalize it. You destroy it. You vandalize it. You firebomb the dealership. You vandalize it.
That's the problem. There's the hate. The hate for another human being. and taking it out on someone who is innocent, and they bought a car. That's their crime, right? They bought a car. So somehow it's okay for you to destroy that car, because you don't like the guy who made the car. Wow. Talk about cancel culture. Is that free speech? You know, what do they say? You can't yell fire in a crowded theater?
You're committing a crime. You are destroying someone else's property. You can't let that go. There's no free pass on that. If you get arrested for that, you should go to jail, or you should be expected to make recompense for it. I mean, it's just that simple. Think about that. Oh, I don't like the guy, so I can go ahead. It's my political speech, so I'll just destroy his car. No.
It's not that way it works. I don't care if you like Tesla. I don't care if you like Musk. I don't care if you like any of this stuff. That's not the way you protest. That's not the way you conduct yourself. That's not the way Americans deal with things. You're a mob. And yes, you are filled with hate. All right, it's 5.55. We're coming to the end of yet another broadcast day. So, Crash, are you going to send this express to the Broadcasters Hall of Fame? Yep, and they'll send it right back.
So it can be put in the wing right next to the urinals. I have a number of packages from the Broadcasting Hall of Fame that simply have a red stamp that says return to sender. You're going to give me a complex here. Well, it's better you know the truth. Well, but I'm a member. They inducted me. Yeah, they did. That was a long time ago, though. No, that's before you associated yourself with me and this show. I think your privileges have been revoked.
