Well, welcome back, everybody. 522-0650 is the telephone number, and glad you could be with us. And Crash, thank you very much for this chocolate. Don't thank me. Thank Mr. C. Well, thank you, Mr. C, for this chocolate from Hiroshima. Yep. Now, the only problem... is that it's in Japanese, right? I don't speak Japanese. Me neither. Nor do I read Japanese. She told me it was chocolates. It could be a cruel joke. It could be full of sardines. I have no idea what's in there. I'm looking at the...

I don't know if they're instructions or what, but it talks about, let's see, what does it talk about? It talks about the... It looks like a microwave on there. I don't know. I have a cool thing I'll show you on my phone. I used it when I was there. It's a translator on your phone, so when you're reading Japanese, you take a picture of it, and it translates the whole thing for you. Okay, well, you should take a picture of this. Yeah, I'll take a picture of that.

Because it's got a refrigerator and a microwave. Oh. And then it talks about something. I have no idea. I don't know what it says. I'll translate it when we go into the news break. Right. Yeah. And it's definitely chocolate. Yep. But I like to make sure I eat it the right way. The correct way. Yeah, right. So I've got the thing right here. All right. Well, we'll take a look at that and make sure that you're consuming said chocolate in the top of the fashion.

Delight is a very beautiful box. Yeah, yeah. We came back with a ridiculous amount of... Because, you know, things like even smaller things like Kit Kats, they have different flavors. Like they have the green tea and then they have the blueberry cheesecake and things like that you can't... find in the good old us and a yeah so we had like a whole duffel bag full of treats from japan that we brought back with us

And so there's bags and boxes of candy all over my house. And last night, everybody went to bed and I tore open one of the bags and ate two of these little strawberry cookies. We have like thousands of these things.

My wife comes flying downstairs. She goes, oh, great. Did you eat them all? I'm like, no, I had two of them. She's hoarding these things. So count yourself lucky that you got anything because you got 10 times the amount that I'm allowed to eat. And I was one of the guys that went to Japan. Well, that's probably why. Yeah, probably. But this is very nice. I just want to make sure I do it. You're consuming it the proper way. Exactly. So I don't want to, and nor do I want to start a...

An international incident. Yeah, because if they're listening to Japan and eat those chocolates the wrong way, there could be a problem. It could be a problem. It could be a problem. I don't want to do that. Nope. You know me. I don't want to... No, no. We have a good relationship with the folks in Japan. Let's keep it that way. Let's keep it that way. So we'll figure out the correct way for you to eat those. Okay. Well, we'll do that over the break. Yep. It's 436. And...

Let's see. All of a sudden, my phone just starts to blow up, and I don't know why that is, but it just is. So, let's see. I got a note here, a couple of notes, a couple from Must Read. Apparently, Anchorage's election administrator, William Northrup, resigned from his position just days before the city's april first election leaving municipal clerk jamie hinds to step into the role she held previously before being elevated

to the position of clerk. The announcement came in a brief statement from Hines who did not offer an explanation. Mr. Northrup has respectfully resigned from his position as the municipal election administrator. As near as Election Day is on April 1st, I will lead the MOA election team in our work to administer the regular municipal election and can assure the public...

that this change has not and will not affect the integrity of the election. We thank Mr. Northrup for his service to the community and wish him well in the future. I hope there's nothing physically wrong or anything like that.

private matter in that regard if there is a physical problem or you know an illness or something and if there is we certainly wish him well if not that then there should be a question here as to why and the why is always the big question again if it's a personal matter it's a personal matter but if it is not if it is a matter that is not personal that has to do with something else then an explanation would probably be appreciated by the people especially since it is so close to the election

And again, I certainly hope it is nothing, there's no sickness or illness or anything like that going on. But other than that, I think we probably should know why. Because it's our election guy, right? And there's an election starting on the 1st. Got my ballots. Yeah, I sent mine in. And I voted for those who I wanted to vote for and voted against all the things I don't want. Well, that's what you're supposed to do. Which means who knows? Right. It could very well.

be the kiss of death. I don't know. Then there's another story on Must Read that apparently Lisa Murkowski has said, and this is from Suzanne Downing, Lisa Murkowski, who occasionally takes an interest in national defense. This is a little bit of a slam there. This is up at arms over Defense Secretary Pete Hexeth and National Security Advisor Michael Walls after a journalist leaked what was supposed to be an important private text conversation about military actions.

Now, I've seen a lot of stories on this. First of all, the fact that they put a journalist on the thread of this thing, really, come on, guys, you can do better. I mean, seriously. Was it war plans? No. Did it give coordinates? Did it give actual times and locations? and what was supposed to be hit and targets. No, none of that. I mean, but it did give targets and it did talk about, it was kind of a briefing, none of which should have been.

made public to this guy none of it so he went ahead and he published it now I've got my own theory and my own beliefs about things like this and i'll tell you what that is in just a second but um hexes and walls certainly should have been um a little tighter on this thing let's put it that way It could have been a problem, and they shouldn't be using an app for these kinds of briefings if they're not secure. And certainly they should find out who...

Put this guy, Mr. Goldberg, on the thread. I mean, they put him on there. He didn't hack or anything. So he's innocent in that regard. Murkowski stopped short of joining Democrat colleagues in calling for Hexeth and Walls to resign. But she signaled her followers on X that her woman's instinct. to vote against confirmation of Hexas due to the character issues, drinking and womanizing was still correct. She said, I'm appalled by the egregious security breach from top administration officials.

She said their disregard for stringent safeguards and secure channels could have compromised a high-stakes operation and put our service members at risk. I hope this serves as a wake-up call. that the operational security must be a top priority for everyone, especially our leaders, and no one can disagree with that. I mean, it really should be. And this was not their finest hour. It's not catastrophic, but it shouldn't have happened. The chat text over the app known as Signal...

was a discussion about possible U.S. airstrikes against Houthi fighters in Yemen. The chat was unclassified, but the problem is someone, a staff member apparently, had accidentally added the editor of the Atlantic Monthly to the chat. And when he received the message, he blasted it to the whole world. Murkowski did not hold that leftist editor accountable for leaking what was obviously national security conversations.

Before we go on any further with that, you know, I understand the press. And if somebody drops a story in your lap like this. you probably would say, well, you gave it to me. I didn't steal it. I can print it. There's no question he could. There's nothing illegal about what the man did. He wasn't a part of it, but...

He became a part of it through no action of his own. But here's the thing. If you are truly an American, and you really do... want to stand up for your country and protect your country then i think you've got an obligation to make sure that this doesn't happen again now how would you do that you could do what this guy did

Or you could say, you know what? I'm not supposed to be part of this conversation, guys. This is so-and-so. This is Mr. Goldberg. Get me off this thing right now. I don't want any further contact.

I don't want to be a part of this thread. Get me off it. He could have done that too, but he didn't do that. And so I think sometimes you have to put your... journalism hat on but you also have to put your American hat on and it goes over the journalism hat and I think and you say I really shouldn't have had this information I don't want this information

Get me off it. If you don't do that, then we have a different problem, and I will do something about it to make sure it doesn't happen again. But that could have solved the problem. But from what I understand, the Atlantic and Goldberg... don't like Trump. They were kind of the Russia, Russia thing and all the other stuff. So I guess that's what I would have done. That doesn't mean that it's necessarily the only thing to do.

But that's what I would have done. He didn't do that. But again, he didn't do anything illegal. So, you know, you can't fault him for doing something criminal, which he didn't do. Should he have published it? You know, I guess that's up to him. He did what he thought was right. I don't think it was right. I think there was certainly other ways to handle it.

but he wanted to embarrass the administration. I don't think they are embarrassed, but I think they need to make sure, and we can thank the guy, that this has been... At least brought to light. And as I say, it could have been brought to light privately, but he chose not to do that. Meanwhile... You know, there's been other breaches. Remember Secretary Austin. He was defense secretary. Nobody found the guy. The guy was under anesthesia.

He was getting an operation for prostate cancer and didn't hear anything about that. The president has been kind of was incapacitated. Mr. Biden. with all sort of cognitive problems. So, I mean, there's been a lot of stuff. Going on, you know, you had the Afghanistan debacle. You had the cocaine in the West Wing of the White House. You had all sorts of things going on. This, however, I think.

The Trump administration needs to learn from it and needs to make sure it never happens again. These were not top-secret plans, but nevertheless, none of that material should have gone anywhere other than where it was supposed to. and it should have never been made public. But it is, it was, and there you have it. We'll be right back.

Looking at your Alaska. Total traffic cameras on a Wednesday afternoon. Steady traffic around the Anchorage Bowl. Quite a few slowdowns currently on Tudor Road starting at Lake Otis. 5-2-2-0-6-5-0 and crash. I got to tell you, I just had some of that Hiroshima Chocolat. Right. And it's quite good. Yeah.

I've told you when we left I mean two places I wanted to visit were Japan and Italy strictly for the food and the food in Japan did not disappoint not just the traditional Japanese food but that stuff there the thing that makes always makes me laugh though is I have an app on my phone that you take a

picture of something written in Japanese and it translates it into English. And sometimes the translations, I get what they're trying to say, but it's loosely translated. So I translated your thing and it says it's made with milk freshly squeezed from a cow.

So if you ever thought this chocolate's really good, but it would be better if the milk in it was freshly squeezed from a cow, go to Japan because that's the chocolate they got going on there. Yeah. They also freshly squeezed the cow and they put it in a bottle. Yes. Freshly squozing. Yes. But it's very good, and it's kind of a different...

Yeah, with the sweets we have from there. There was something else we got, banana something or other. My wife was a big fan of. I don't know what it is. I've got stacks of cookies and candy and crackers, apparently, none of which I'm allowed to touch. Don't eat that. That's for Mike. Okay, what about this one? That's for Sophie's teacher. All right, I'll just make some. Well, I'm glad you didn't get to eat this. This is very good. Good, I'm glad.

And thank you, Mrs. C. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I firmly believe that my wife travels purely to shop. Well, the other thing is the packaging. is really really beautiful i mean it's not just chocolate you know the way we do chocolate here right i mean it's it's packaged nicely it's uh it's it's an event yes it is it's an event

And so it shows a lot of pride. And I can read the back of this thing. This is good until the 19th of June. Oh, all right. So you've got plenty of time. But it'll be gone by the end of the show, so it's kind of irrelevant. They're going to make it until the 19th of June? Are you kidding? Do you know me? Right. And chocolate? Come on. Yeah, and what's interesting is it's not sweet. No. It's got a really nice flavor to it. Sue is on hold. Well, let's see. Do we have time for Sue?

No, she wouldn't get her... Okay, so I'll tell you what. We've got about 45 seconds until the hour ends. And Bill are on hold. Yes. They're not together. No. Well, not that I know of. Well, I don't know. If they stay on hold long enough, they might be. So I'll tell you what, Sue and Bill, if you want to hang through the news, which is coming up. Soon. We're going to do our break here in about 20 seconds for the top of the hour, even though it's not the top of the hour. It's confusing, I know.

It's us. It's radio. So wait till we're back in the second hour and we'll take you. And if you want to hang up, you can and call back. That's great, too. But we're looking forward to Sue and Bill on the other side of the newscast. So stay with us. We'll be right back. Bye.

There I was in my business suit, all dressed up, just uptight as I could possibly be. And I don't remember much of what was said at that first AA meeting. It was more the feeling of the meeting itself. That's what has kept me going. I know it works and I see the people ahead of me with more sobriety. I see how happy they are and I want that. I want that too. And what I notice about AA is it's sort of...

helps me to relax and learn to really be happy with my sobriety. It's a richer life to live. That's exactly what Alcoholics Anonymous does. He teaches us how to live without drinking. It teaches us how to have fun and really enjoy life without drinking. This program's giving me the good life. The only good life I've ever known. Alcoholics Anonymous. It works. Look us up. Porch. Welcome back. It is a Wednesday. It's a beautiful day outside. And Crash, are two callers still on there? Okay, let's go to Sue. Sue, thank you for holding. Hi. Yes. Well, I was just curious if you recall if Lisa Murkowski has, you were commenting on many of the bubbles of the Biden administration. Right. Do you recall her commenting as directly about some of those as opposed to how she comments about things that President Trump is involved with?

No, I don't recall any sort of comment or broadside from the senator on those. Toward who? Toward Biden. Yeah. Well, I just thought I... because I know that you have a lot of history with this, and I just thought maybe if you would remember, because it does seem she does take a certain tactic, a tack towards certain subjects. Yeah, she doesn't like Trump. And, I mean, I don't think that's a secret. He doesn't like her. But I think if, you know, if there's a problem...

With security, it doesn't make any difference whose side you're on or not on. If it's a problem, it's a problem and it needs to be fixed because the security of America is absolutely essential. Well, that's why I was just curious if she commented on any of the security breaches over the last four years. That's all. Yeah. No. To the best of my knowledge, my answer would be no. Yeah.

And I think there's all kinds of things. I think that it's real easy to jump in and just assume something happened the way it did. But I like the fact that some people step back and go, wait a minute, we really do need to have this, you know, looked at in general. Yeah, no, we do. I mean, it is beyond belief that...

A reporter was included in one of these briefings. That's crazy. And that should never have happened. Especially that reporter. Isn't that interesting? I'm just curious about that, too. Okay. All right. Thank you. Thank you, Sue. Appreciate it. All right. Let's go to who are we going to now? Bill. Bill. Hi, Bill. You're on. Yeah, Mike.

I've known a few snooze in my past, but there's no snooze here today. Okay. I have been married to a lady by the name of Gay for 60 years. Well, you know, and she deserves a medal, probably. That's a long time to go steady. I talked to you about two weeks ago and about these assembly members. I'm in District 5 C and H. And I've got Angela Frank, John Stiegel, and Yarrow Silvers. And I am not familiar with either, any of them. Do you know which one would be better for the assembly?

Trying to knock out some of the... Can you punt? I know. I mean, you know, Yara Silvers is... She may be a very nice lady. I don't know her. But she's very, very, very far to the left. She runs, I believe, a blog that is also quite liberal, and I know the Assembly members would love her. The other two I do not know very much about.

And so I couldn't really give you any sort of intelligent discussion or critique. All right. Well, like I say, punt. Yeah, that's, I mean, if it were me, I'd say, oh, geez. You know, do I want to be shot or hung? I don't know. You've never, I haven't heard of either one of them. Which way they lean? No, you know, you could, you know what you could do? You might check their websites.

You might check to find out who's supporting them. I mean, if the assembly members are supporting anybody that's running, that immediately is a red flag for me and go, well, okay, check that one off. So you might do that. You could also check APOC filings and find out if they've gotten any money from anybody and from where.

Or, you know, if worse comes to worse, this is really radical if they're going to their website. You might even want to, you know, send them an email or something and just say, tell me about yourself. Yeah. All right. On School Bond, let's see, Board A, Seed A, and Seed B, you've got, still, you recommended Alexander Rozelle's. Yes. And Anthony, Mark Anthony Cox. Correct. Okay, those are...

They haven't changed. And no on all the bonds. That's what I did. I always do that. I'm sick and tired of paying money for stuff, and especially the one on the town square. I talked about that yesterday. You know, we've already built the town square once, and then we destroyed it. Now they want to rebuild it. Now you get one chance for me. You guys screwed it up. So live with it.

It's like pouring more money into the school districts until they get better grades. I don't want to spend any more money on it. It's just a waste of money. Well, yeah, would you think about this in private business? If your company continually failed and never got better and was at the very bottom and you're demanding high prices for your goods, would you buy from yourself? Would you buy from that company? I sure wouldn't.

No, I worked for Chevron for 30... Well, they're a good company, so they're... Yeah, and they don't put up with any... I mean, the name of the game when I worked there was You Perform. Exactly. You got paid for performance. And if you didn't perform, you didn't get any raises. And if it went bad enough or long enough, you were out of a job. And that's why Chevron is a profitable and successful company.

That's right, and I've still got a lot of their stocks. Yeah, they make good gasoline. Oh, that's right. At Tecron, it does work, believe me. It's a good gasoline additive. It keeps you up. Engines, parts are clean and the injectors and all that. So anyway, well, I'll just try and go on the, you know, on the Google or whatever and just try and...

I have tried to look up both of them, and they'll give you any information other than some of their background, because it's a nonpartisan office. Right, which is absolutely one of the most ridiculous... things I've ever heard. It is all partisan. Oh, sure it is. And the mayor today is just a rubber stamp for the assembly. Well, she was from South Anchorage, and she...

She basically sold herself as a, quote, conservative. If she's conservative, I have many bridges to sell you that I own. That's right. I'll tell you. Well, thank God we dodged a bullet November 5th. Yes. I couldn't be happier. And, you know, it's kind of like you know that he's doing well. Because the Democrats and the progressives are losing their minds. No, it's fun to watch the news. They're just out there. All they can do is come up. They can't think of any news swear words.

No, they basically it's, you know, Trump's a terrible guy and watch what's going to happen. They're going to fix the problem with these district court judges, which do not have the authority to do what they're doing. And I hope Congress slaps them down. I hope the Supreme Court does that, but if the Supreme Court does nothing, Congress is going to slap them.

And I think the Supreme Court will because it's well within the president's purview to do what he's doing. Absolutely. And so one judge, the lowest of the lower courts, can stop the president. from doing something for the whole country, somehow that just doesn't sound right. That's right. He wasn't elected. No, he wasn't elected.

I've listened to you for a long time. We've lived up here since 77. In fact, that's how I got up here. I was transferred up here with Chevron, and they kept trying to send me back to San Francisco, and I kept telling them, no thanks. Well, but back then, San Francisco was a lot better than it is today. That's right. But, I mean, it was a few years. Alaska was a training. Yes. You know, you were on a ready and promotable.

Which I was, I guess, and I, you know, the transfer back to San Francisco would have been quote unquote a promotion. But the problem is that the cost of living in California was starting to catch up with where Alaska was. Crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy down there. And today, I'm in California. My God, it's just out of, well, there's people leaving California by the droves. We used to spend an awful lot of time in Napa Valley.

I was born and raised down there. I was born in Berkeley and raised in Oakland, and growing up in California was a beautiful state. It was wonderful. California was like the promised land, and then it turned into something else. Yeah, it got very liberal in a big hurry. Then they went up and polluted Oregon and Washington. Yes, I was going to say, I can't use the words I want to on the radio, but that's what happened. Okay.

We've got to take a quick break. I appreciate the call, and thanks for listening for so long. I appreciate it. You bet. Take care. All right, you too. All right, it's 518. Let's take a break. We'll be back. Call Mike. Call Crash. Call 907-522-0650. Looking at your Alaska total traffic cameras on this Wednesday evening. Steady traffic now all around the Anchorage Bowl. A few slowdowns out there. Afternoon with highs in the 40s.

For Alaska's weather source, I'm meteorologist Aaron Morrison. Welcome back, everybody. 5.23 is our time. Nice day outside. And let's go to Bob. Bob, you're on. Go ahead. Yes, sir. I think I have a guaranteed way to get Mike Dunleavy elected back in the government. Okay. Well, he can't run for governor again. Well, whoever he wants to pick as to start a doge in Alaska.

Because every time the Juno stops a project, they don't get rid of the project, they table it, then they hide the money for the project. And we need to know where all this money is and what it's supposedly for and how much there is before they start asking for taxes and stealing my dividend. Well, they're definitely going to try to steal your dividend. I mean, I think that's pretty interesting. Not if you threaten them with finding where they're hiding money.

Well, I think that would be something that would be very, very worthwhile. And it's something, you know, I haven't talked to the governor in a bit, but I would certainly encourage him to do that. He's basically got about a year plus left, a year and a half left as governor, and there's no reason why he couldn't.

He can go out the door as the greatest governor ever giving the people back their dividend. Look what we did. Yeah, because we know that's what they do. They've got a great big bank account sludge on, and they're using the... interest is their own personal slush fund, and it's all the money from the projects that they table, like the bridge across to connect and all that. They don't get rid of the project. They table it.

Well, I think a doge for Alaska would be great. I think a doge for Anchorage would be great. I think the whole idea of making sure that the taxpayer gets a chance to see where the money is. And how it's being used and how it's being managed is, I think, the very least we can ask of our government. I think as citizens of the state of Alaska, we have the right to know.

What is in the bank account? Absolutely. Bob, a good suggestion. Thank you. Thank you, sir. All right. Let's go to Kathy. Hi, Kathy. Hey, Mike. This is concerning Lisa Murkowski. Uh-huh. Can someone burp that poor woman? You want to burp her? She really needs a reset, and I think that might do it. Okay. Okay. Wow. I'm trying to think of how you'd even do that. Maybe Susan Collins can do it for her. You want to crash as he wants to burp? I'll do it. What the heck?

This woman is just unbelievable. Well... This Hexa thing is... That whole thing was a setup. Well, I think part of the problem was somebody in the Department of Defense just blew it in terms of hooking up, you know. Jeff Goldberg or whatever his name is from the Atlantic on that call. That was just dumb. Exactly. And Lisa Murkowski comes out like she's some kind of hero because she's letting us know that she didn't vote for him.

We kind of figured that out. Yeah. But, you know, I mean, she felt that she wanted to make a statement, and, you know, it shouldn't have happened. I mean, you know, I'm not going to sugarcoat anything for Trump. You know, it's not what Goldberg said it was, war plans. I mean, war plans are quite different than what they were doing. They were talking about an attack, which none of that should have been public. But Goldberg, I think, should have said, hey, guys.

I'm part of this thread, get me off it, you know. Oh, that wasn't going to happen. Well, that to me is kind of an honorable thing to do. Right, right. Well, that's a hard thing to find these days. Yes, what did Terry Truman say about loyalty in public life? If you want loyalty in public life, buy a dog. That's right. That's right, Mike. Buy a dog.

And dogs are good to you. You know, they're happy to see you at the end of the day, no matter what. Exactly. Exactly. And they'll never lie to you. Never. So if there's somebody out there that wants to burp Mercosur or Miller and Alka-Seltzer. What do you want to do then? Do you want to take that on? I mean, you know. And you would be doing it not in a bad way. You know, you would be doing it to be helpful.

Exactly. I'm worried about her health. All right. Okay, Mike. Thank you, Kathy. I'm not going to be able to think of anything else for the rest of the day. We had a lot of calls that give colorful suggestions as to what needs to be done with Lisa Murkowski. That's the first time I've heard anybody say that woman needs to be burped. Okay. All right. And just so that people know.

That was you. That was totally you. We did do that. That was you. That's from the chocolate. Yeah, as soon as she suggested to Berber, I see you in there, swilling a mug of root beer. In preparation for the homemade sound effect there. No. We do not wish any, you know, ill harm or anything. And I think, as I said, it was the suggestion from one of our listeners, Kathy, was made strictly for help.

That's what she was suggesting. Oh, yeah. It was out of concern. Yes. Have you ever been burped? Who hasn't? It's a Friday night. You're out looking for kicks. Come on. So now, would you do the kind of the... I'd swaddle her first. I would swaddle her. You'd swaddle? Yeah, I'd get the blanket and swaddle her up and then put her over the shoulder and get the burp rag. Yeah, get the burp rag ready to go just in case there's an...

Incident. I've had a couple of kids. I know how to burp somebody. It always seems to make you feel better. Oh, yeah. It all makes me feel better. I know. So you want me to go in there and burp you? Yeah, come in here and burp me. Okay. We'll be right back. Stay with us. This is News Radio 650. KE&I. Anchorage.

The $2 billion 10-year project includes replacing aging terminals, stabilizing an extension, and building an armor rock wall. That's the latest. I'm Jack Cronin. NewsRadio 650. KE&I. Depend on it. Looking at your Alaska total traffic cameras on this Wednesday evening. Still steady and heavy traffic around the Anchorage Bowl. Looks like prop problems.

It's 535. And Thomas is on the line there, Crash? I'm sorry, what? I wasn't listening. I said, is Thomas on the line there? He is. Then let's go to Thomas. Hi, Thomas. Hey, how's it going? You know, I have to give credit, though. Jamie Allard at least tried. At least tried to cut the budget. They tried it 10%. They tried it 5%.

And Jamie said $100 million at 3%. And you know those Democrats couldn't do it. They couldn't not take that money from you and me. And the guy whose biggest push against you up there was talking about how... You know, our departments, they can't give up 3%. Really? Wow. They could give up more than 3%. They definitely could. And if you've got directors who can't cut 3% out of a budget, you need to fire them and hire somebody else.

They can't do their job. They're incompetent. No, I would say you're right. They all can lose some money here and there, and there's no... You know, what gets me, Thomas, is the folks in education. Not one dime can be cut from education, and it's like...

You know, I just want to say to people, don't insult my intelligence. That's all I got, bud. Yeah. Okay. Thanks, Thomas. Appreciate it. All right. Now, I mean, that's the thing about the education budget. Now, you know, nobody wants to have their budget cut. But we keep spending and spending and spending and spending and we don't get anything better. And so I think to myself, well, how do we get your attention? How do we change things? How do we make it better?

I don't think there's anybody in the state that wants to see dumb children, for goodness sakes. And I'm being kind of halfway facetious here. we want to see our kids get the best education possible are we giving them the best education possible the answer to that question is no some are some aren't but when you look at the entire broad spectrum when you say we are 50th out of 50 that's not good that's the metric that's the way it works

I mean, you know what the good news is? We can't go any lower. I mean, you know, we're there. We can't get any worse. I mean, we can. We can really be in number 50 solidly forever. Well, dare to dream. Everyone needs a life goal. We do. We do. Maybe the education people need to be burped. I don't know. I'll burp anybody that wants to be burped. What we do is we do radio and we burp. Yep. Full service. Yeah. Well, tomorrow, speaking of education and not burping.

Bob Griffin's going to join us about 4.05 or so. And he'll be on. And Bob always likes to chat about... He's really good at this, and he's kind of devoted himself to trying to make sure that the public is aware. of all of this. And he's got a piece that he wrote for Mustery Alaska. It says, Alaska versus Mississippi show why education reform matters more than money.

So Bob is going to talk to us about that. And he's absolutely right. Money has nothing to do with it. You know, money is nice. It's important, certainly. You want to have money. But in the great scheme of things, you can have an education system that is extremely well-funded that fails and one that isn't so well-funded that succeeds. And it has nothing to do with the dollar amount. It has to do with the people in the system and what the system is and how people participate in that system.

So when I hear this stuff about, oh, well, we only put some more money into it, we would get better results. That's just nonsense. I will even say this on the radio crash. It's poppycock. Easy now. You're going to get us in trouble. How about that? You can't say that on the radio. Yes, you can. I've heard it said. Because I just said it. Speaking of education and executive order.

that was signed by the president a couple of days ago, may be at odds with Alaska's election laws. Now, Trump's executive order... probably will face legal challenges everything the guy does faces a legal challenge until we can get the court the lower courts to realize what they're actually supposed to do

and have them do what they're supposed to do. Until then, we're going to continue to see this. What is it, like over 125 lawsuits against the president? You know, it's going to crash on these guys. And when it does, good for the country, because we need to get these federal judges to do their jobs, not what they think their job is, but their actual job. Alaska is one of a number of states that accepts ballots after Election Day. As long as they're postmarked prior to Election Day.

or on election day, they're accepted. And we have for the longest time taken ballots after that because we've got people in some far-flung areas. the state and we also have people serving in the military and and all of those other things. A spokesperson for the Division of Elections did not answer specific questions about the division and how it's going to pursue changes to the laws regarding the order. This is from the Anchorage Daily News. This is a quote from Steve Kirsch.

Says, I can only share that the Division of Elections is reviewing the executive order and will work with the Department of Law on any potential changes to policies or procedures. Steve Kirch is a spokesperson. for the division of elections. So what Trump's order does is it threatens to cut off any sort of federal funding if states don't comply. And we receive here in our great state a million dollars in funds. And we did that in 2024. The governor also a little earlier this year.

proposed some legislation to shorten the window for early voting. And I think that's a good idea. I think what people do is there's a, you know... First of all, you want to trust elections. That's absolutely essential. I don't care, you know, whether your candidate wins or loses, you've got to trust the election. And when you have long gaps. between voting and counting people get, and I think justifiably so, a bit suspicious and angry.

They would like to see the vote counted. And I know that's obviously something that needs to happen. So we're going to see some changes. The question then becomes how... When and what do we do? So, you know, keep your eyes open. Keep your ears open. We'll let you know when we hear something about this and what is going to be done. There is a bill in House State Affairs, and Kevin McCabe, who's from Big Lake, and Kevin's been on the show.

said he wanted to make the bill more compatible with the executive order. Here's what he said. He said, a bit of what we're doing now is probably going to be mooted. by this executive order or we won't get federal assistance. And so he sought to amend the bill. And we'll see what happens. Kevin is in the minority because you've got... Democrats and some rogue Republicans in the House in the majority will see if they do anything about it. But, you know, I think people that want to test Trump...

They're going to find out that the guy's going to win more than he loses. Now, this is a statement from the Democratic Representative Carrick, Ashley Carrick, from Fairbanks. And this, to me, says everything. that you're going to ever need to know about the democratic mind. Many of the executive orders that have been signed are tied up in courts right now.

So it may or may not become immediately relevant regarding Trump's executive order on elections, said Fairbanks Democratic Representative Ashley Carrick. OK, there it is. That is. As clear as possible. She is being extremely honest and forthright. The plan is to tie Trump up. Don't worry about what it says. Don't worry about doing anything because whatever he does, it's going to get tied up and we really don't have to worry about it.

We played those sound bites for you last week with Chuck Schumer saying essentially the same thing. That's the game plan. And it's got to get fixed. We'll be right back. The Mike Porcaro Show with Crash on News Radio 650 KENI. Looking at your Alaska total traffic cameras on this Wednesday evening. There is steady and heavy traffic around the Anchorage.

Welcome back, 550. It's a crash. Tell me, what is it about football players and dog fighting? Is there another one? Yeah, there's another one. The guy played for the Giants. In 1999, he played for the Cardinals. He was drafted by the... The guy's name is LaShawn Johnson. Not familiar. I don't really remember the guy too well. But anyway, he's facing federal charges after authorities.

alleged that he ran a massive dog fighting operation that led to what the U.S. Department of Justice believes was the largest seizure of dogs ever in a federal case. The DOJ, in announcing the 21 count indictment, alleged that Johnson had nearly 200 pit bull type dogs that were used in animal fighting. and was selling, transporting, and delivering dogs for use in animal fighting in his venture. So, I mean, I guess...

What is with it? Michael Vick. Michael Vick, right. He's obviously the most famous one. But he wasn't to this guy. I mean, what is the attraction? I don't know. I read when Michael Vick got arrested for it. It was like him when he was growing up. I think he grew up in Atlanta. I think. Yeah, I think so. It was just part of it was a thing. It was part of the culture. Yeah, it wasn't thought of as. taboo as much as we...

Other people would think, I'm not excusing it at all. It's deplorable. It's a horrible thing. But that's kind of what he said. He said, you know, I always knew it was wrong, but it was just kind of part of my life growing up. It was just something we did. But, I mean, obviously something to this. magnitude you'd have to go a long way to hide this something like this yeah i mean you'd have to you have to look at this and say what are you doing

Well, I mean, at some point you would hope just basic human decency would kick in and you'd be like, this is disgusting. This is disgusting what I'm doing here. Yeah, I'm making animals kill each other. I just don't get it. But it seems like this is the second, I don't know how many NFL players are involved in dogfighting, but look at how long it took to find this guy. Right.

I'm not familiar with the player, though. No, I'm not either. He played for the Giants, you know, 26 years ago. So that's a long time ago. And they weren't any good back then. Well, big news for if you're a Giants fan, as you are. They just signed Russell Wilson. Yeah, they did. And Jameis Winston. Well, okay. They got a deal on the backup, I think. Yeah, I think so, too.

But the whole idea was they were waiting and waiting and waiting for Aaron Rodgers. And I don't know what it is. Aaron Rodgers, like, is he all together? Is he all there? I don't know. I think the speculation is he's going to sign with Pittsburgh. But even then, I mean. I don't know. If I was Aaron Rodgers, Aaron, if you're listening, here's what I would do. Listen to us, Aaron. You don't need to sign anything right now.

somebody's going to need a quarterback soon. And for a guy like Aaron Rodgers, it doesn't do him any good. You can also make the argument it was hurt his, and I hate the word, but I can't think of another one, his legacy. Just to go to another floundering team, you know, win six games. and have a decent season statistically. Aaron Rodgers, he needs to hold out. Or retire.

Or retire. But if he's dead set on playing, don't go sign with Pittsburgh. There could be a team a few months into the season that's dealing with injuries and needs a quarterback or something like that. I know that the 49ers are expecting to have to pay Brock Purdy upwards of $60. million dollars a year maybe they don't do that and rogers goes over there i don't know he's from that area

Yeah, he's from the Bay Area. So I don't know. But if I'm him, I don't rush to sign anything right now because it's not going to do you any good. The Pittsburgh Steelers are not going to win the Super Bowl this year. The Giants are not going to win the Super Bowl this year. Again, Aaron, if you're listening, Aaron, if you've got any questions, 522-0650, feel free to give me a call, and I'll guide you through this minefield that is free agency. If I was him, I'd wait.

Someone's going to need a quarterback. What I read was he was really hoping to go to Minnesota. Really? Yeah, that's where he wanted to go. That's kind of like where all the ex-Packers go. Yeah, well, he would have kind of mirrored Brett Favre. Brett Favre, yeah. Or Favre, as we say in the Bayou. Favre. Yeah, because Brett Favre, Green Bay, and then he later played for Minnesota and the Jets.

And if he would have ended up in Minnesota, it would have mirrored what Favre did. Well, and I'm sure Aaron Rodgers will be in the Hall of Fame. Yeah, the Green Bay Packers are interesting to me. They have two generational quarterbacks in Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, and they each only won one Super Bowl during that time.

So you'd figure with that kind of talent, you would have won more. Aaron Rodgers is one of the best throwers of the football I've ever seen. But he's a wingnut, kind of an a-hole. You think? Yeah. Well, I mean, you just don't know what you're getting. Nah, I've been a fan of his game, not really a fan of the guy. But yeah, if I was him, I'd wait. Some team that is like a quarterback away or some team that's got a quarterback, they're going to get hurt.

And then they're going to need somebody. Because Pittsburgh needs Aaron Rodgers more than Aaron Rodgers needs Pittsburgh. And the thing with the Giants, they needed Russell Wilson. They needed to do something. Yeah, they needed to do something. And Russell Wilson is a good manager of the game. He's a professional quarterback. Yes, he is certainly not what he was in these years in Seattle, but he's still...

He still knows what he's doing. So now in the NFC East, you have Jaden Daniels, Jalen Hurts, Russell Wilson, and Dak Prescott. Out of those four quarterbacks, only one of them has never been to a conference title game, and that would be the quarterback of... The Dallas Cowboys. Wah-ha-ha. Well said. Yeah. All right. It is time for us to go. Have a wonderful evening, everybody. We'll see you tomorrow.
