For instance, in the Senate, the Senate Democrats have joined Republicans to pass a government funding bill to avert a midnight shutdown. Now, this is an interesting u-turn for Charles Chuckie Schumer, the senior senator from New York. Schumer was against this thing. He was... going on his high horse talking about how terrible it is, we can't do this, it's awful. However, when he was the Senate Majority Leader, it wasn't so awful. Same thing, only...
It depends on where you're sitting, I guess. The Senate passed a stopgap government funding bill today, hours before a partial shutdown of the federal agencies were set to take effect at midnight. A handful of Democrats joined Republicans to advance the House-passed GOP plan to keep the government funded through September. which cleared the upper chamber's filibuster in a 62-38 vote. For those who are unfamiliar with the arcane rules of the Senate, you've got to get 60 votes.
In order to make something happen if somebody says they want a filibuster. So what they did was they invoked cloture. And if you can get 60 votes. you can then bring it to the floor, and that's what they did essentially. So 6238 vote with 10 Democrats voting in favor to advance the measure. Okay, so that means now we're going to send it to the floor. So I've got to vote again. Democrats, Dick Durbin of Illinois, Kristen Gillibrand of New York.
John Fetterman of Pennsylvania. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire. Gene Shaheen of New Hampshire. Gary Peters of Michigan. Brian Schatz of Hawaii. Catherine Cortez Matzo of Nevada. and Chuck Schumer of New York joined independent Senators Angus King, Democrat really, but he's an independent of Maine, and every Republican except Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky to move the bill forward. Senators voted down four amendments to the bill before it went to the final floor, where it passed 5446. Okay, so...
Once they get by that 60-vote thing and get it to the floor, then it's a majority vote. That was pretty easy at that point. Shaheen and Kim voted with Republicans, minus Paul sending the resolution to President Trump's desk. The procedural vote came after a crop of younger congressional Democrats, in both chambers, railed against Schumer for having signaled...
his opposition to the Republican agenda earlier this week, only to reverse course within 24 hours. Schumer saw the handwriting on the wall on this one. Senate Majority Leader John Thune Republican of South Dakota, chided Schumer for his abrupt U-turn. Last summer, the Appropriations Committee reported 11 of 12 bills out with bipartisan support. Six of those bills...
passed out of committee unanimously, he said. But month after month, Leader Schumer found something more important to do than fund the government. And not one, not one of those 11 bipartisan bills ever came to the floor. added that the GOP wasn't thrilled about funding the bill, which was a carryover of spending levels set by former President Biden during the last year of his presidency. But his conference sense was...
It was the best option to prevent a shutdown. And I think Schumer saw what was going to happen because if the government shut down, it would have been known as the Schumer shutdown, which is something the Democrats issue. The bill, a continuing resolution, will essentially extend fiscal 2024 spending through levels through the start of fiscal 2026. Under the measure, the defense spending will get $6 billion in boosts from fiscal 2024, but non-defense discretionary spending will fall $13 billion.
Immigration and customs enforcement is also getting a slight boost to nearly $10 billion from the previous year's spending level. Senate Democrats struggled to unify on how to vote for a House-passed continuing resolution despite Schumer's initial opposition. Republicans do not have the votes in the Senate to invoke cloture.
On the continuing resolution, Schumer declared Wednesday. But, apparently, they found him. And you were one of them, Chuck. So, how about that? So, that's what happened in the Senate today. Now, if it doesn't seem to make sense, it really doesn't. It's a bizarre way to do business. To say, well... We're going to filibuster, so that means you're going to have to get 60 votes. Now, the Republicans only have 50, what, 54 members? 53. They'll never get to 60 votes. You've got to get Democrat help.
And the Democrats in recent years have been pretty staunch in opposing anything the Republicans do. But in this particular case, it was, well, we'll shut the government down and it's your fault. This time... And Schumer just saw the heat on that one. And now he's getting heat from his own party. In fact, there is a report today in one of the New York newspapers that...
There's a move afoot to try to put AOC in a primary against Schumer. Wouldn't that be funny? I don't think she'd have a prayer to beat him, but nevertheless... That's one of the thoughts. All right, 522-0650. Lots of other stuff going on. Gerald, we made some news, didn't we? That we did. With our interview with Senator Sullivan. Yeah, you've got out there, and the Canadians have picked it up. Up here in Alaska, local news, what is it, ADN, picked up and did a really good story.
on your interview with Sullivan. Yes, Iris Samuels. And I've got to say, Iris, thank you very much for... First of all, you did a good job. And secondly, thank you for attributing the interview to me and Ke and I. That was very nice, and we certainly appreciate that. And we always try to attribute things that you write to you as well. which I think is...
the way to go. Absolutely. You know, if you wrote it and it's a good piece, you should get credit for it. Yeah, so they now have, it is spreading like wildfire, though, across the Canadian media. Right now it's going through the Canadian trade media for cruise ships and stuff like that. Yeah.
And like I said, but it is literally in the last eight hours, it is just blown up on sources over there. So I'm sure more is going to be spoken about that into the national news soon. Well, it's probably good that I don't have a business down there. I may get some phone calls from good friends in Canada who are saying, Mike, what are you doing, eh? I've got relatives there also. Well, you know.
It's funny, and this was all because of the premier, who's like a governor, of British Columbia, who decided now he was going to put tolls up on the road, and specifically this guy wants to hurt Alaska. Okay? That's the goal here. I mean, I'm not going to take any guff. If we were playing hockey, he and I would be in the corner, and we'd be talking, at least at first. This guy is hell-bent on hurting Alaska. Well, you know, good for Dan Sullivan for saying, hey, wait a minute. Don't do that.
You know, if you want to do something, let's talk about stuff, but don't do that. Don't hurt my state. And don't try to hurt my country. So basically, don't bring a knife to a gunfight. I mean, and hopefully all of this stuff can be... put to bed and put to rest. We've got to figure a way out. The Canadians have got to come to the table and say, look, okay, let's figure out how to actually have free...
fair trade. I understand that everybody has to try to protect certain businesses and certain sectors. Get it. But don't make it confiscatory. For instance, milk. And since you were telling me about some of your Canadian relatives, you know what I'm talking about, Darrell. Oh, big time. Tariffs on milk.
Yeah, if you want to get American milk, you don't even try to buy that in Canada. If you want that, you've got to cross the border and pick it up there, which, believe it or not, a lot of Canadians actually shop across the border. Well, yes. I mean, you know, especially in New York, and I'm really familiar with that area because I had people living there.
And you'd go into Canada and you'd buy stuff, and Canadians would come into America and buy stuff. And it was back in the 50s and early 60s. People knew each other. You know, the customs guys knew each other. And if you kind of went back and forth a lot, you know, they know who you were. Not only is he going to hassle you. You know, they followed the law. They did what they were supposed to do. But, you know, it's like, yeah, okay, that's Fred. You know, don't worry about him. He's a good guy.
Oh, yeah. My cousins going across the border would always – it was generally when they crossed the border, it was for cigarettes, gas, milk, and sometimes meat because they could get meat cheaper on the American side. And so, yeah, and this was literally at least once a week.
week and yeah when we cross the border it's just kind of wave of them as you go past and they're just like yeah yeah it wasn't it wasn't a big if you didn't even to pass you didn't even need a passport in the old days you just drive in same thing with mexico Didn't need a passport there either. What's the name of that bridge? Freedom Bridge? Isn't that what that thing's called? The big bridge at Vancouver?
Peace Arch. Peace Arch, that's what I was thinking of. Freedom Bridge, Peace Arch. Yeah, Blaine goes into Blaine. Blaine then goes into B.C. It's a huge border crossing. Huge. Oh, yeah, when it's busy, it's busy. Yeah, but again, you know, it's a beautiful country. There are great people in Canada. I love them. And this thing now is hopefully we can all get control of it. But when you've got somebody in a position of power who is seeking to hurt your state.
Well, then we have to do something about it, don't we? So when we come back, we'll play some of that interview with Senator Sullivan, just to kind of give you some context of what's going on. So stay with us. The Mike Porcaro Show with Crash on NewsRadio 650.

I'm not seeing any major stoppages, so I hope you're going to have a great Friday afternoon. In the mid-30s, we are expected to see a warming trend take hold next week.
as we climb back near 40. For Alaska's weather source, I'm meteorologist Aaron Morrison. Report traffic problems to News Radio 650 KENI by dialing pound 250 on your wireless phone and saying total traffic. 5-2-2-0-6-50. Okay, this is a story apparently that's running like gangbusters through the Canadian media. And Iris Samuels did a story in the Daily News.
About it. It's an interview that that I did with Senator Dan Sullivan and Darrell Why don't you roll that section of the interview where we talk about this? Well, the last one is our good friends Canada and Mexico. And today the premier of British Columbia decided that he was going to, I think, go off the rails and want to tax American trucking.
Fuel additives and everything else in an effort. I think it's not to availed to hurt our state And there's a big difference between two Leaders of countries, you know Getting in each other's face and and a governor basically what this guy is wanting to hurt another jurisdiction and What's what is what's actually going on with Canada and Mexico and I know that the Canadians do have some pretty?
confiscatory tariffs on some of our goods look I think what's driving that I don't strive to think I know it's driving that particularly as it relates to Mexico, but Canada as well, is what the president campaigned on, and his big focus on the campaign was sealing the border. in making sure we don't have millions of illegals and fentanyl that's poisoning our citizens. And when the president...
campaigned on this. And by the way, he's keeping that promise. Illegal border crossings are down 93% from... last year with biden 93 you know there was a statement that the president made at the state of the union which i thought was one of his best lines Well, actually, his best line was talking about the Alaska LNG project. There's no doubt about that. But one of his best lines was, hey, you know, a lot of the Democrat senators were saying the only way we can fix the border is change the laws.
It turns out all you have to do is change the president. Yep, that's exactly true. It's totally true. So we're down 93%, but fentanyl is still flooding in. That's China with its precursors. That's Mexico primarily. And, you know, Mike, I care a lot about this. Alaskans should care a lot about this because guess which state is at the highest overdose rates?
of fentanyl of any state in the country in the last two years us alaska i mean people think that fentanyl flooding over the southern southern border and and there's some evidence I don't have the details, but, you know, they've cited Canada too. I think the vast, vast majority of the problem is Mexico. When people think that doesn't impact Alaska, even though it's 4,000 miles away, it really, really does. And, you know, we had almost close to 400 overdose deaths.
in 2023 i mean that is a big number for a state like ours it's mostly our young people and so you know i've been doing i talked about on one of the times recently on your show this one pill can kill campaign that i'm
trying to get out there to make sure our young people know that, you know, you have no idea that if you're taking a drug, it might be laced with fentanyl and it will kill you. That's the way so many of our young people are dying from this stuff. And it's just... horrendous and heartbreaking and and it's just way too many but it's also the mexicans and the chinese are still flooding and poisoning our citizens with this horrendous drug so
Trump's focus on tariffs is primarily this fentanyl issue. And if we conceal the border from getting fentanyl poisoning our citizens, I think... you know, you're going to see a relaxation. I think that's his primary motive. And then, you know, with the Canadians, I don't know the premier of the different provinces, but it is a bit of a dangerous game.
Right? For some of these Canadians to do that. Because one thing that I think is a good idea is to pass legislation or to even get an executive order from this administration. enabling our cruise ships not to have to stop. You know, the Passer Vessel Service Act mandates that American cruise ships from the lower 48 coming up to our...
to help our tourism industry, which they do tremendously, they have to stop in Canada. Well, if we can pass a law saying no they don't or get an executive order saying no they don't, that will take billions. And I'm talking billions of dollars of tourism revenue from Western Canadian provinces. So, you know, two can play this game. And you might remember during COVID when our tourism industry got creamed.
because we lost 1.5 million people who were going to visit our state on cruise ships, and not one of them showed up. The next year, we were getting ready to open up our tourism sector. And the Canadians wouldn't give us a waiver on the ability for cruise ships to stop there, and they said they couldn't. I called a number of Canadian leaders saying, come on, guys, we helped you during your...
Time of need. We just need a little waiver here. They wouldn't provide it, and then they kind of made fun of us saying, oh, Congress can't pass a law to waive that. Well, guess what we did? We passed a law to waive that. Canada lost. hundreds of millions in revenues, and my view is we should make that permanent. So, you know, Canada, you don't want to mess with Alaska, and if you do, we're going to work hard on having our cruise ships bypass.
your ports, and that'll help our economy tremendously. It'll help our tourism industry tremendously, and it'll really hurt their tourism. So they're playing a dangerous game here, and I hope they back down. I do, too. I hope cooler heads prevail on that side and we all get back to some level playing field where we can work together and be what we all can be.
No, I agree, and, you know, they're good allies, although, you know, I met with the prime minister, Trudeau, about four or five months ago, and their foreign minister is just about... three weeks ago and the one thing where canada i know they're our friendly neighbor but they have been so weak on defense spending they are one of the biggest laggards in terms of the nato commitment
to meet their 2% of GDP defense spending, and they just don't do it. I was in a meeting with the Prime Minister of Canada. He essentially said, we're not going to do this until 10 years from now. I mean, that is so ridiculous. They're a wealthy country. We do a lot to protect them with our missile defenses, which are based in Alaska, and they don't carry their weight in NATO. And I told Prime Minister Trudeau, I said, you know, Mr. Prime Minister, you might think this just hurts.
you know, just bilaterally, NATO and Canada. I said, this actually undermines the whole alliance because when a wealthy country like yours doesn't pull its weight, you have Alaskans and... You know, other Americans saying, wait a minute, why is Canada get a free ride when we spend so much on defense? Which we should. It's a dangerous time. But they're real laggards when it comes to NATO defense spending. Probably one of the worst.
And they need to up their game in that regard for sure. Well, there's elections coming to Canada, so we'll see what happens. Maybe something will change. Call Mike and Crash now. This story that we just played, actually we played the interview, the section of the interview that I did with Senator Sullivan on Canada.
It was a lot of other topics we covered in our interview, but that was one of them, and that one just seems to have really struck a nerve, and it's been picked up by Canadian media.
The Port of Vancouver has said that the comments made by Senator Sullivan are concerning, and it's keeping an eye on the situation. It is important to remember that the Canada Place cruise terminal, which is a beautiful terminal, down there on Cordova Street, by the way, in Vancouver, is an established home port where cruise lines base their ships for the Alaska season rather than a port they briefly visit en route to Alaska.
Vancouver's been a premier home port for Alaska cruises for almost 40 years, acting as a home base for one-way and round-trip cruises, the statement said on 1130 News Radio in Vancouver. We believe that Vancouver's cruise operations, which are typically scheduled years in advance, have a crucial role to play supporting Alaska tourism and businesses offering a fully serviced home port and one-of-a-kind itinerary.
is popular with both cruise lines and their passengers. The Greater Victoria Harbor Authority echoed the sentiment from the Port of Vancouver. That's kind of where they're going with this. They don't want to lose that revenue. They don't want to lose that home porting. And as you recall, during COVID, We didn't get a waiver from them, so Congress passed a law, a waiver basically, to let us take our cruise ships directly from the United States to Alaska.
Now, I don't care if you want to get on a ship and you want to stop off in Vancouver and the ship goes there, go. Enjoy yourself, have fun, whatever. But if you want to come to Alaska... The question I always have is, why do I want to stop here if I want to go there? And, you know, there should be opportunities for both itineraries. And especially now when you have a situation where there seems to be some tension and some, I would say, activity to try to...
To hurt us. I don't like that. And that's directly from the government of British Columbia, which is really kind of surprising. And again, I've got... Lots of friends there and had a business there. And I have great, I mean, I just have, you know, nothing but admiration for Canadians. But sometimes leaders are not.
Thinking what's best for their country or best for their area? So that's kind of where I'm coming from and you know, I'm an American So I'm looking out for America and I'm looking out for Alaska
All right, so, Daryl, where is this story going? Oh, man, it is, like I said, it is spreading across the Internet right now at the speed of... light basically the internet right now it is just popped up again in the Seattle Times now is carrying it like I said a lot of the trade industry matters magazines for
The travel industry and cruise industry are all popping up with it. And then if you know what Reddit is, Reddit, it is literally exploding on Reddit. And X is picking it up also, also known as Twitter. The Reddit ones, though, it's definitely picking up some lively. conversations off of Reddit. It's going to be fun watching this and where it goes. Well, it's interesting because Cruise Industry News, which is a...
Pretty big publication. Picked up the story that Iris Samuels wrote. Right. And they ran that, and it's in there, and that goes everywhere. Yeah, it definitely has. Like I said, through the cruise industry stuff and like that, I've got at least nine different sites from those guys, the cruise industry sites that have already picked up and moved this story on. And then, like I said, there's several Canadian radio stations and stuff that picked up the story.
It's just, yeah, it's, oh, here's another one. Nope, that's never mind. I was going to say Toronto just picked it up, but that was actually a different part of the story. So what's this? Halifax News just picked it up also. There we go. Well, that's about as far away as you can. She can get in Nova Scotia. Yeah, and literally that just popped up. Wow. Well, it's, I mean, it just shows. that there are consequences. We are at the end of the road, and we should be able to have good relations.
with our neighbors. Even if the countries are having a bit of an argument or disagreement, I don't know what you want to call it. We should be able to have friendly relations with our neighbors. I mean, they're here. We all get along. And to do what this guy did, I just think the guy, it's wrong-headed. And somebody needed to tell him, hey, don't do this. And I think maybe Senator Sullivan did that. And now they understand. This is something we're not going to put up with.
So there we go. So you sent me the Halifax City news here? Well, so that there, this is the Canadian press. This is the newest story. It literally was released 36 minutes ago, and it has the Prime Minister or Premier of British Columbia's full... response to this. In the break, you're going to want to check this out because it's a very interesting story and literally just hit the news wires 34 minutes ago. Okay, so this guy...
Sometimes it's best to just be quiet. Absolutely. Going along with what you were saying there, I think part of the problem is... This all blew up in this tariff war that came up and trade war when that's not what it started as. This was a please guard our border. Please help us out. You're our buddy, our friend and everything like that. And they said, oh, OK, we'll do that. And for 30 days, Trump waited and they didn't do anything.
And so then Trump said, OK, fine, tariffs are coming on. That's that little poke at you. You know, there's a lot of other things he could have done, but he did a little poke. And then it kind of spread through the news media, particularly on the... progressive or democratic side of the news media and in canada that is 99 of the news media that donald trump wanted trade war he's going to start you know putting tariffs on all these different things they didn't tell them why
They went straight to the, well, he wants to match us with this and that, which is what it turned into later when they started looking at all these tariffs and going, wait a second, wait a second. How is it we're so far behind in tariffs against all these other people? So I just think that this literally got blown out of proportion from what it started as and what it really was because the Democrats needed a new fire burning. Let me just put it that way. Right.
You know, they couldn't get what they wanted, so let's start a fire with our neighbors. And then, of course, the Europeans decided to jump in on it, which is not going to bode well for them because I'll tell you what, if he throws taxes on all of their alcohol coming into the States, yeah, Europeans are not going to be happy.
Well, this is what happens, and maybe it comes to a head, and I don't know. There's a new prime minister in Canada, and he's taking over from Trudeau, who resigned, so he hasn't been elected. by the Canadian people he was elected by the Liberal Party And you got 86% of the Liberal Party votes. So he's now the prime minister. He's never had elective office before. He sounds like a smart guy. He was a banker.
A big, big deal in the banking business in Canada. Sounds like a smart guy. And we'll see. Meanwhile, there will be elections in Canada.
Pierre Polyev is the conservative who is going to be running for the office. And I would think he and Trump would probably have... be closer to the same page and Hopefully the two of them could sit down and hammer something out Let's hope so I mean, you know there there's There's good and decent reason to say, look, we understand tariffs, but tariffs... that basically keep my products out and let your products in seem unfair so you know who's the who's the fool here if you're taxing my
my goods or services at a higher rate than I'm taxing yours why is that happening it shouldn't be if you got a 10% tariff on me I should have a 10% tariff on you I mean, you know, let's play fair. But that's not the case. And, you know, you're absolutely right, Darrell. I think the Trump administration...
missed a golden opportunity to lay out the plan first to tell people why this was important. But what the Democrats did and the media did was they ran immediately, oh, tariffs are bad, they're going to kill the country. If you're doing it unilaterally with no reason, it's going to be hurtful. But if you're doing it for the reason to try to equalize the trade,
That's a different story. And I think we need to take a breath on this. And I think what needs to happen is people need to get in a room, sit at a table. Maybe have a couple of stiff belts of something and work it out. Because we can. We're friends, are we not? People of goodwill can make anything work if they want to. We'll be back. Call Mike. Call Crash. Call 907-522-0650
Looking at your Alaska total traffic cameras on this Friday afternoon. It's additional light snow showers into the weekend with temperatures remaining in the mid-30s. We are expected to see a warming trend take hold next week as we climb back near 40. For Alaska's weather source, I'm meteorologist Irma. All right, 451, let's go to Mike. Hi, Mike, you're on. Yeah, hi, Mike. I, uh...
You know, it's really interesting because I don't know if I necessarily agree with you that Trump didn't put this out early on in both his campaign and post-election. made it really clear that this is not about a trade war. This is about a drug war. And Pierre, I can't pronounce his last name. He's indicated that...
Canada is the fentanyl capital of the world. So, I mean, it's a very serious problem. And so, of course, we have our own wonderful... news people here, mainstream news people in America just sell America out so that they can create the conflict that's going on right now. And it's so disingenuous and dishonest. It's amazing. Well, it is. It is. They would love to do anything to hurt the Trump administration.
you know, agenda, and, you know, basically, even not telling the truth is not beyond them. And so rather than looking at the situation and saying what's actually going on, I kind of feel like they're pitching for the other team. You know, it's like, look. Oh, yeah. And there's a fire for the other team as well. Yeah, yeah. You know, my wife's Canadian, and so we go to Soyos, which is right above the B.C.
Right. Border. Wonderful place. Lovely place. It's a high desert. But we hang out. You know, we do a family reunion every year with our Canadian family. And when Trump first ran for election in 2015, the oldest cousin, he and I are about the same age, he came over to me at the picnic table and we're surrounded by all the members of our family. And he looks at me and he goes, why are you going to vote for Trump? And at that point, every member in the family left the table and the area.
All I could say to him is, you know, have you read the United States Constitution? Have you read the Declaration of Independence? Why don't you read that? And after you read that, then I can explain to you. why I believe candidate Trump would make a great president. Yeah, and I think that once we get all of this squared away, and we will,
Both Canada, the United States, and even Mexico, we'll all be better and we'll all be more prosperous. And, you know, there'll be no limits to the kinds of things we can do together. We're killing hundreds of thousands of people through fentanyl. We've got to stop it. We've got to, absolutely. And we've got to, you know, and it's coming from China.
And it's coming through both borders. And when somebody says it's only 45 pounds coming through Canada, that's enough to kill 10 million people. That's concerning. Let's minimize it, right? Yeah. It's only 45 pounds. Okay. Well, yeah. Two milligrams will kill you. Unbelievable. Well, thank you, Mike. Mike, thanks very much. I appreciate the call. All right, 4.55. We don't have time, Darrell, do we, to really develop another call. So here's what we're going to do.
We're going to pick up calls on the other side of the news. And I know we've got callers waiting. So if you would hang on or call back, we'd love to get you on. This news story is now beginning to kind of go viral across our country and across Canada. And I guess what Daryl, the premier of British Columbia is, what did he say? He said, we love Americans, we love Alaskans, but you've got a, what did he say, a dumb president or something? A lousy, lousy. A lousy president.
We like Alaskans, and we think they're great. We like Americans, and we think they're great. They've just got a lousy president. Yeah, they've got a whole lot of responses. Evie has now, or Evie, I'm not sure how to pronounce his name, has now responded to this, and yeah, it's like... I believe. Well, it'll be fun. I imagine Senator Sullivan may have a few choice words, too. So we'll see. All right, everybody. Hang on. We'll come back. Stay with us.
On the next episode of Recipes for Disaster. So we've got our neighbor Paul coming over tonight for a barbecue, which is why I prepared a delicious lemon rosemary steak marinade for my special collection of old family recipes. To make sure the steaks are extra, extra, extra tender, I left them marinating out on the counter overnight, just like Nana used to. Maria may mean well, but without food safety, it never ends well.
Always thaw or marinate foods in the refrigerator at 40 degrees Fahrenheit or below. Or you could make your friends and family really sick. Maria's neighbor Paul didn't think twice about the steak he ate until he was presenting his company's financial forecast to the board. That's when a sudden bout of food poisoning made it explicitly clear that profits weren't the only thing on the rise.
Watch Recipes for Disaster at foodsafety.gov. You'll learn the right steps as Maria does everything wrong. Brought to you by the USDA, HHS, and the Ad Council. Behind every thriving place is a great long-term plan. Well, this is it. What I've worked for. A cafe and bakery that's busy all the time. Behind a success story like this is an equally good community plan. We got in early. Well, this neighborhood was just coming back.
A good plan means a community is attractive to the people growing businesses want to hire. Mornings, oh, they're walking to work, coming from the train, and the brainiacs from the tech company, they're here at all hours. Planning creates vibrant neighborhoods where people live and work and shop. On weekends, it's a mix from the new apartments and folks fixing up the old houses. According to the American Planning Association, good planning creates value for everyone in the community.

On your front porch The Michael Carro Show All right, it is 5.07. Thank you, Rich Lee. What a great guy he is. He's my cousin. And it's nice to know that there's people in the family with talent. And he certainly has a ton of it. And he's got a ton of music on YouTube, and it's just RSL music. And I think if you peruse it, you'll enjoy it.
Who knows? Maybe you'd like to get some of it. I'm sure he would love it. All right, 5-2-2-0-6-50. Let's go to Bill. Hi, Bill. You're on? Yeah, Mike. I think one of the ways... Solve that Canadian problem and make it the 51st state. Now, here's the thing. Do you really want Canada to be the 51st state because it's a pretty left-leaning country? I would take Alberta and Saskatchewan.
and a player to be named later, but I'm not so sure I would want the whole country. Yeah, Eastern Canada, they can become a country of their own. We've been through that. It's all French. Well... Yeah, the province of Quebec certainly is. Yeah. We've traveled all through Canada. It's a beautiful country. It's a great country. It absolutely is.
And this is one of the other reasons I was calling. It seems like the only time I ever talk to you is when they come send out a new ballot. And I got a couple of questions on these assembly members, school board. Me too. There's not been a lot of information on this particular election. The assembly member in my district... I mean, I don't know either person that's running. I have made a phone call.
to try to get Mr. McCormick on the air to ask him about himself and about his candidacy and kind of his thoughts. And I'm kind of waiting on a callback. I'm sure I'll get. one. So I'm going to try to get him on and I'd like to get some other people on board to call in so that we can at least hear what they have to say and maybe ask some questions. So you don't know anything about Angela Frank?
John Stiegel and Yarrow Silvers. Well, I can tell you that I'm not sure that the choices are all great. So... Let me do a little research in it. The ballot doesn't have to be handled for a bit. Mike? I can tell you a little bit about Yarrow Silver. That one I know a little bit about. Yarrow Silver is a very big leftist, correct? Absolutely. If you want to go back and look at some old assembly meetings, she always gets up there on the progressive side, and she has a blog.
out there, very extremely leftist-leaning. Yeah, she is definitely chummy and well... So we know where she's coming from. The thing I worry about, Bill, is it's kind of like the choice you want to be hung or shot. I don't know which I prefer. Neither, obviously. So let me try to get some information on that. As far as the school board candidates...
I think Mr. Cox would be the guy I'm going to vote for. I think he could do a great job. We need somebody who is a common sense guy, and I think Mark Anthony is the guy. And then Ms. Bellamy, I think, has been there long enough, and I think she's proven that she is so far over to the left that anybody would be better.
in my opinion. Again, nothing against Ms. Bellamy. Probably a nice lady, but I think she's done enough to destroy the school board. The other one is Alexander Voselis. Right. He's running against her, correct? Right. Yeah, I don't know very much about him, but I'd be willing to trade. Right, okay, well, I'd love to. It sounds like Rosellis would be better of a choice.
I think so, and certainly Mark Anthony Cox would be the choice on the other school board election. Well, I'll listen to your program, and if you find any more about... When I first saw this, Frank Stiegel Silver's... I thought I was looking at an Israeli ballot. Well, I don't know much. I know Yarrow Silver is left-leaning, and if you like somebody like that, then she's your gal, but I don't think you do.
No, I don't know. Frank ran I think last time for something and I think that person might be you know, on the left side of the ledger too, but I don't want to say that without having, you know, verifiable proof here. That's the problem with this whole assembly. They're all in the left lane. Yeah, well, guess what, I mean, look at what we've got, you know. It's horrible. Where are the conservatives? I know, and it's, you know, it's just tax, tax, tax, and if they had their way.
which most of the time they do. I mean, the mayor is just a rubber stamp for the assembly. She's one of them. Yeah. What about now, there's 11 propositions. Are any of them worth a yes vote? No, it's going to be basically, to me, it's money. Every bond issue you've ever seen, it's borrow money, and they add it on. It's only $100. per 100,000 or whatever. And it's like, you know, you start adding it up. A lot of times. You know, it's crazy. And then the school bond, why are we doing that?
Why aren't we rewarding this school district? The school district's already, you know, in the toilet in terms of its funding. They've got a $111 million deficit. They do have a huge savings account, and I understand the reason for that. But, you know, we've got to have better outcomes. And if you show me better outcomes, I'm more willing to open my wallet. But until such time as that happens, I'm not real excited about it. And we don't need any more schools. No. If I understand this right,
We pay more per student than almost any state in the union, and yet we have the worst grades. They come, you know, dead last. You're pretty much right on on that one, yes. All right. Well, listen, it's always good talking with you, Mike, and I'll listen to your program and maybe phone in later. I guess we have to have these ballots in by April 1st. So in the meantime.
I'll go with Rosellis and Cox, and we'll just wait and find out more about these three up and above. I'm in District 5, so what district are you in? I'm in the hillside. I'm in South Anchorage. Yeah, we're just below. We're in Shugach, Forty Hills. Okay, so you're on the other side of town there. Right, yeah. Important side of town, too. Very important. We're just below Stuckagin Heights. Okay, wow. All right. Yeah, we're just right as we're in our backyard. The mountains start to go up.
At our backyard, we have a pretty good shot of the chugatz range. Well, let's see what we can find out, Bill, and see if we can help. All right. Well, it was good talking to you, and enjoy your program. Thank you. Thank you. Have a great weekend. All right. Let's take a break. We'll be back. Call Mike and Crash now. see a warming trend take hold next week as we climb back near 40. For Alaska's weather source, I'm meteorologist Aaron Morrison. Now, back to the Mike Porcaro Show with Crash on NewsRadio 650 KENI. All right, 519. And I got a note here from Roy. Let's see here. This is from... On the Alcan, it says, read down to Article 23B regarding tolls on the Alcan. This is from Roy. Roy, thanks very much. And this is called the View Treaty, and it's the... to the Alcan Highway
Exchange of notes between the government of Canada and the United States concerning reconstruction of Canadian portions of the Alcan Highway. This was Ottawa, January 11, 1977. And let's see, we've got to go down to Article 2, and we want to get to 3B. All right, where is it? Okay, well, let me read what it says. Canada will, and this is Section 3, this is A, provide without participation of the United States funds appropriated for the reconstruction of all necessary right-of-ways.
For the reconstruction of such highways for a period of 25 years from the date of entry, into force of this agreement, and until five years worth such a shorter period of time as parties agreed to, after each party shall have notified the other, the right-of-way is no longer required for its purposes. This is what he wanted me to tell you. Not impose any highway toll or permit. Any such toll be charged for such use of such highways by vehicles or persons. Isn't that interesting?
This is for the Alcan. Right. So maybe we should take over the Alcan again. Well, I mean, essentially, we've never done it. They've never done it. And when you have this guy strictly in British Columbia, strictly for the purposes... a making a point be feeling that he's a bigger guy than maybe he actually is see having power that maybe he doesn't actually have I don't know but the The result would be to hurt Alaska. Now, I don't know if you remember earlier this week.
We had Senator Myers on from the Republican caucus, and he was pretty clear. He's a truck driver, okay? I mean, and he knows probably better than most. What goes on on that highway? And he said, you know, most of the goods and services, most of the goods come up on a boat. But it takes time. He said, if you're looking for anything that you need quickly, you put it on a truck.
And they have two guys and they drive, you know, they don't stop. They basically drive 24-7, I guess, if they have to. And he said that they could get stuff up here in three days, which is really pretty amazing. So he said if you're looking for special parts, things for the oil industry, produce, things of that nature that have to get here right away, it goes on a truck. I mean, I guess the other thing you could do is fly it up here.
Those are the only two ways you can get it up here. And if you're going to put tolls on the road, that is going to immediately raise the price of whatever it is that's coming up on the road. Just so people know what's going on. All right, 523-522-0650. That is our phone number. There's a bill that is, I don't know where it's going to go, if it's going anywhere in the legislature, that was introduced by L.B. Gray Jackson.
Jackson was a member of our assembly for a long time. Nice lady. Democrat. I think her heart's in the right place, but... I'm not so sure that she's looking at the unintended consequences of her bill. According to the Must Read Alaska site, the bill was introduced. to codify certain fundamental rights for individuals facing discrimination based on a variety of characteristics, including race, gender, and housing status. Now, if you're homeless...
It doesn't make any difference what your race is, what your gender is, or anything like that. You're homeless. Okay? You know, people who are homeless sometimes need some help. Right? So... Helping people of any stripe is what we do. That's who we are as a human race.
While Senate Bill 119 purports to protect vulnerable populations, Its broad and ambiguous language threatened to create more legal confusion than solutions inviting unintended consequences that could negatively impact businesses, public spaces, and law enforcement. what I think the problem for this law is and when you start trying to usurp local laws when you start using race and gender
If you're homeless, you're homeless, Daryl. It doesn't matter. What are you, a certain kind of homeless person? It doesn't matter your age. It doesn't matter your color. It doesn't matter anything. So what the purpose should be is to make sure that people can get help if they need it. I mean, that's it. That's the simple solution. The problem is you don't want to empower it. You want to help solve it. Now, can you solve it? Well, there's a lot of different...
reasons why people are homeless. And that's why I keep suggesting that we have a triage center where we can actually sort through and find out why are you homeless. And I don't know how many people know this, but for years ago, I was the chair of the Brother Francis shelter. It's amazing that nothing's really changed. People are homeless for a number of reasons. And you have to try to break the cycle. But you also have to get...
people who are able-bodied to take responsibility and start doing some work. Now, sometimes people need a little help, and I understand that, and we should be able to give people a little help. But sometimes people just... take advantage of the system sometimes people are mentally ill sometimes people are addicts these are all things that happen these are all things that need specific help
Buying somebody a hotel room may not necessarily be the idea. So we can go from there. But I think Senator L.B. Gray Jackson's bill... I think her heart's in the right place, but I think it's going to cause tremendous upheaval if it actually passes, because she's trying to put this as civil rights. And we run into a whole bunch of problems here. All right, let's do this.
It's 527, and I know Jeff Lanfield wants to talk about homelessness and love to have Jeff on the show. So if Jeff would hang on through the break, we'll pick him up on the other side, and we'll be right back. This is News Radio 650, KE&I.

You want to talk about the homeless. Yeah, yeah, I was listening to your program. I'm back in Anchorage for the weekend. I'm in Juneau, as you know, for the session, so I came back. We're actually doing some Anchorage assembly debates this weekend in our studio.
That should be interesting. I will say it's interesting. The fundraising for the assembly races is combined way down from previous years. And I think due to the fact that the progressives were fighting really hard to keep their... They're veto-proof block. And now with a progressive mayor, LaFrance, there's really, I mean, a lot of the candidates didn't raise any money or reported, didn't even file a report. And some raised almost no money.
I know, this has been really strange. And the other problem is, and I got a call from a gentleman. earlier in the show, wanting to know some information about some of these folks. And I've got to tell you, I don't know very much about some of these folks at all. I just got back. Last night, so I haven't been here for a few weeks, but driving around, I've seen really no signs. I mean, the ballots went on the mail. Yeah. Only Cameron Perez-Verdia. So in his case, he has two opponents.
Neither one of whom responded to our assembly debate and also didn't file APOC reports. So he's winning. And then Daniel Voland is the other incumbent. He has kind of a race with Daniel George. But the other four seats... are no incumbent. I can tell you who's going to win all the seats. It's pretty obvious. Keith McCormick's going to win that South Anchorage seat. Yarrow Silvers is going to win the East Anchorage seat.
So it's almost like these races aren't even... I know, and I don't know very much about Case McCormick. I got a flyer in the mail... about him and trying to get him on. I left a message for him, so hopefully he'll call in. He's actually pretty conservative. He's written several articles for the landmine over the last year on homelessness.
He's right on that issue. I mean, he knows he's also some of the kind of the dumb, you know, let's end jaywalking and let people do whatever they want. And then they wonder why people are dying when they're letting people just camp and live next to the highways. I know, but... I wonder what happened. Gee, let's let people just cross the street wherever, you know? I mean... I heard you talking about the LV Gray Jackson bill. LV's my senator. I've known her for a long time. She was...
on the assembly when I was president of Tucker Campbell Community Council. I like Elvie a lot. I think her heart probably isn't the right place, but I saw her in the hallway in Juneau yesterday, and I actually made an appointment for next week. She's my senator.
And I said, I mean, how about a Parks and Rec's Bill of Rights? How about a Bill of Rights for the people who want to go to the parks and go on the trails? And I said, look, I can talk to you and I will talk to her about this issue at length. But, I mean, coddling these people. And like I said, I've been out there a lot. I've spent a lot of time in these camps and all over town. A lot of them, and I'm talking about more than half, admittedly choose to be out there.
They don't want to go to the shelter. They don't want to go to a place where there's rules. They want to use drugs. They want to drink. They want to party. Some of them are mentally ill. Some of them are drug addicted. Some of them are alcoholics. Some of them are praying to other people. And, you know, coddling and tolerating. this behavior is exactly why we are where we are. I absolutely agree. And, you know, it hasn't changed. We need a triage center. And as you know,
People are homeless for a number of reasons, and until you start getting to the core of why this person is homeless, you're not going to be helpful. And if they don't want to come in and they don't want to follow the rules, There's not a whole lot you can do. Why would you give this person the opportunity to camp out or do whatever the heck they wanted to do it wherever they wanted to do it? That's just crazy.
Yeah, and I think we should, and don't get me wrong, I think we should be compassionate. I think we should probably have more in terms of mental health services and treatment. I think we should offer those things. But at the same time, you offer those things. You can't just offer those things.
That's the carrot without having the stick of we aren't going to tolerate this. You can't sleep in our parks. You can't destroy our trails. You can't go to the public spaces and just do whatever you want and make it hard for everybody else to enjoy. the city. So both those things have to happen together. You can't do one or the other. I absolutely agree with you. No, you're right. So the question then becomes how does that happen? There has to be will.
on the part of the legislators, the assembly, whoever. And then there has to be a mechanism. And I'm not necessarily sure, Jeff, if the city is equipped. do that I think they certainly can be helpful but I think you know private institutions, faith-based organizations, et cetera, maybe they're more able to do certain parts of that better than a second. I think, you know, I agree it's got to be a mix. I also look at some of the amount of money we spend on...
some of these collectively non-profits. And there was actually a hearing in the legislature three weeks ago, and somebody asked, Jubilee Underwood asked about duplication and kind of consolidation, and the woman from the Forga group just totally freaked out.
And it's like the money we spend on this problem, I mean, just actually she said it would cost more money to do that, which is interesting. But the amount of kind of duplication of the money we spend, it's almost like inverse. Like the more we spend, it's like the worse it gets.
So it's just going to take a mentality shift of having a mayor's assembly, mostly a mayor, to basically go out there and say, look, you can't do this anymore. We're not going to tolerate this. Well, let's hope that happens, because... The city, and you've been here, you know how it was and how it is. The city has gone completely...
To the dark side, as far as I'm concerned, we no longer have a place where you can walk and enjoy things. We're looking at the town square, and I remember when that first went in. It was a delightful place. I lived here in August of 2004, and I remember going downtown. I was young. I was 19. I was just thinking, wow, this is a great place, and going on a hike and having outside.
you know lunch or dinner and uh it's it's it's like you know since 2012 my friend was murdered down there on halloween and it just seems to be getting it all kind of goes back to 2015 and price of oil went down and all these things kind of started you know we just started Stopped doing a lot of things and taking care of the city, and it's statewide. But if you look at the exodus of population, a lot of people are going to the valley. A lot of people are just leaving state.
We're not attracting people. The wages aren't what they used to be. The pensions aren't what they used to be. It used to be a big trade-off to come to Alaska in the 80s and 70s, 80s and 90s. It's just going to take a big, big, big shift. I tell people we're like a boat. We're like a ship. We're going the wrong way and there's no rudder.
Yeah, we're also taking on water, too. That's the other problem. Yeah, we can't say all the things. And I look at a quick general update. You know, the House passed this education bill for... $250 million, it's got to go to the Senate, but the governor's got more union contracts, and his amended budget spends another $44 million, and there's just a myriad of kind of, talk about pensions, and it's like everybody wants to spend money in the budget.
grows, deficit grows, the revenue forecast comes out, it's projecting another $70 million. And it's almost just like, it's almost just like lunacy. You know, everybody's kind of admitting the problem, but then they keep spending more. Well, exactly. And I guess really the situation is coming down to simply this. They passed this big education bill. There isn't a mechanism to fund it.
I mean, the mechanism to fund it is no permanent fund dividend. Well, I mean, it's that or it's using, you know, they keep saying, the Senate keeps saying they don't want to go into the budget reserve, but that's almost, I think, maybe inevitable. But, you know, you have to prioritize.
There's just a lack of honesty with the public about what the budget is, what things cost, what we can give up, what we can reduce, what we can not reduce, what we have to raise revenue. I mean, it's just a matter of being honest. And I think there's been so much dishonesty and kind of lack of just...
you know, truth about what's going on in our state. I mean, there's people who think that you can just, there's unlimited money and there's not, you know, and there's this problem with the permanent fund not growing. It's kind of stalling at 80 billion. Partially because of the draw, partially because of returns. And, you know, I want to live in a place where we can plow the roads. Luckily, it's been – I mean, talk about LaFrance getting real lucky. I mean, no snow. She comes in hot. No snow.
I mean, Dave, I mean, I love him or hate him. That guy got record snow twice in a row. I know. I mean, I'm talking about feet, not inches, feet, multiple times. I know. It's just terrible. I mean. Crash has a theory, which I won't repeat, as to why we're not having any snow. But she said she was going to take care of the snow. Well, she did. Okay.
But, no, you're absolutely right. You know, poor Bronson. It wasn't his fault. Poor guy, God. I mean, just two record years. It's like I've been here 20 years, and I think there was one year in 13 or 14. I just don't remember that much. Yeah, I think 14 was a big one.
Yeah, but I mean, look at this year. We had a little bit of snow last night, and it's not going to last. It's already starting to melt. To be honest, to be frank, I'm actually really happy. I'm on my condo board. I've been on the board for many years, almost over a decade.
run the board and there's 116 units in the last two years we've had to expend huge amounts of extra outside of the budget money on snow removal because we ran we ran out of snow storage and clearing snow off roofs and leaking and all these so we're sitting here like we're
We're fat cats this year because we've budgeted all this money. Because two years in a row we've had to spend all this money outside of our budget on snow removal and extra snow clearing. And now we're thinking, oh my gosh, we've got finally some breathing room in our budget. Party time, Jeff, at the end of the year. Oh, yeah. No, we're going to build a Jeff Landfield gazebo, okay?
Okay. Okay. Anything else you got for us? We're running the break time here. Anything else? Like I said, we're basically almost halfway into session and there's 120 days. It started off real boring and slow, and, boy, it's gotten – Rob Yunt pulled himself – you mentioned they pulled himself off that bill, that Hill Corp, S Corp tax, which, I mean, you know, for it or against it, I mean, to me, if you're going to do something like that, you've got to go hard to the paint. Yep.
And for him to take his name off of it, I just think, you know, I like Rob a lot. He's a great guy. He's a good senator. He's a smart guy. I don't know. He just pulling his name off that thing like that was, I think, a big misstep. Well, yeah, Rob is a good guy, and I think he's made some mistakes. I think he will right the ship.
Well, like I said, if you're going to do something like that, you've got to go hard. He's got a four-year seat. He's the minority, too, so it's got a lot of room. But I don't know. I didn't even know that was coming. It was this morning it happened on the floor in the Senate.
But the bill is still alive. Kathy Giesel. Yeah, Giesel's got it. She just converted the bill to a resources bill. So the bill's not dead. Once you introduce a bill, it's no longer your property. Right. Yeah, I just think people need to... to kind of take a breath and give Rob an opportunity to kind of move.
He dove into the deep end on that one. He did. He's a tough guy, and he's a good guy. You're absolutely right. He is a good guy. Oh, no, I'm a big fan of Rob. Rob Young's great. I like him a lot. All right, well, listen, have fun in your time here out of the asylum, and we'll hopefully...
Yes, we'll hopefully talk to you soon. You want to give us a holler, Jeff, when you're down there for some reason or other? Yeah, I'll try to do that. We'd love to hear from you. All right, hey, listen, have a good time, and we'll talk soon.
Yep, thanks, Mike. All right, Jeff Lanfield from the Alaska landmine. It is sunshine. My gosh, beautiful. Sitting here in the palatial... ponderosa studios and sun's coming in the window and it's just it's just lovely glad to be alive we'll be right back call mike call crash Call 907-522-0650.

Clouds build right back in through the overnight hours as we are watching the potential for additional light snow showers into the weekend. With temperatures remaining in the mid-30s, we are expected to see a warming trend take hold next week as we climb back near 40. For Alaska's weather sources, I'm meteorologist. All right, it is 549. It is the end of the week.
And Crash will be gone all next week, too, right, Harold? All next week, yep. He will be trolling around Tokyo for the whole time there. Well, so far, the... The Japanese have not registered any protests that I'm aware of, so that's good. You haven't seen him flying off of any tall buildings? No, so he's behaving himself, which is good.
I'm glad to hear that, and I'm sure that he is enjoying some of the wonderful cuisine. I'll bet he's trying Sapporo now, because he's a big fan of, what's the Irish beer that he likes so much? Oh, Guinness? He's a big fan of Guinness, so I'm pretty sure he's probably enjoying some of the giant cans of Sapporo beer that they've got over there and some of the other brands. And then, of course, Japanese whiskey is tasty. Yeah, no, it's interesting. If you go to Costco...
And you'll see some of the pilots and crew that come through on some of the freighters and things. Apparently, the deals... are pretty good. And so they'll buy stuff and take it back home. Can you see that one bottle of Costco that's the Dragon? That thing is beautiful way out of my price range, but oh my gosh is that thing beautiful
It's interesting when you stop and you look at all this stuff. They still, I guess, they're never going to change the price of the hot dog and drink combo. Or the chicken. Those two are literally... The owner, the main guy behind it all would literally terminate everybody if they tried to change those. That is his thing. That is their draw. Well, I'll tell you what. I don't know. You couldn't make... The food.
For the price that they charge. You're talking to a person who knows about food pricing and food costs and stuff like that. Absolutely. Not to mention the volume of those chickens they go through. You can't match their size or anything from any other places that sell you roasted chicken. You just can't match the size of it and the quality. They are delicious. Yeah, now, didn't they put them in a different packaging now? Yeah, instead of the little black...
black plastic boat with the lid on it. It's now in a beautiful plastic bag. Actually, I like the packaging because it's easier to carry. Whereas that boat, you could get a couple of them in your hands. It'd get a little bit messy if you spilled them around. But the little bag now, it's like a little sandwich lunch bag, man. I like that thing. Well, you know, that's one of the things people can do. That's what crashed...
Crash, when he's here in town, of course, that's the Saturday morning thing is to go to Costco. Oh, yeah, and trust me, that bag makes it easier to eat over the sink also. Trust me, I am right there with Crash on that one. let you in on a secret yes so the secret to the costco chicken and this is just a a secret i'm letting you guys in on this when you look at the bag or the box whichever it came in there's a sticker on it and most people think that sticker is a date
It is not. It is the time those chickens came out of the rotisserie. So if you're looking at them, the later the number, the sooner it came out so you can get fresher chicken. By looking at that number. So look at the date. Yeah. You know, some will be 45 minutes old. Some will be five minutes old. I see. All right. Well, I did not know that.
That's one of those little secrets. I figured out one day of going, hey, what's going on with this? And then I watched him put him out and looked at it and went, okay, I'll take one of those. But yeah, that is good chicken, man. Well, we've got a lot of fun things, too. to do here in Anchorage. You don't have to necessarily go and hunt for cultural things. Buying chicken, that's a cultural thing. Yes, and there's plenty of people to watch, for sure. So what are you doing this weekend?
This weekend, my plans are to prep up for St. Paddy's Day because St. Patrick's Day is Monday, so I've got to make sure I've got all my stuff ready for that. And I should probably all eat extra because I like to cook some on the day before.
So I've got my full amount. So are you doing traditional corned beef and cabbage and that stuff? Oh, absolutely. Corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes. I still, every year, I have to decide whether I put carrots in or not. Just because carrots get sweet when you slow cook them like that. that off-puts me on it, but I'm a huge corned beef and cabbage fan. Huge. Do you do soda bread, too? Oh, absolutely. You can't live without the Irish soda bread. All right, so that is, you know...
Big St. Patrick's Day meal. And also, everybody, because a lot of people are going to be probably celebrating St. Patrick's Day this weekend, please do be careful. Watch your drinking and driving. We want everybody to be back and listening to us on Monday and enjoying all of that corned beef and cabbage. Absolutely. So what's the, since you are the official traffic guy,
and chief cook and bottle washer of the station, I think. Are we looking for some bad weather this weekend or on Monday? It's funny you say that because the weather is, tonight they're saying we might. Remember, I call these guys the weather guessers because as far as I'm concerned, they look outside the window and determine what the weather is and going to be. But for...
They say we're possibly getting snow tomorrow. Tonight it's going to be just mostly cloudy. And then as we hit tomorrow and further into the weekend, mostly cloudy, mostly sunny. Tomorrow afternoon, though, they say we've got snow showers possible. starting about 1 o'clock all the way up through the night. Light snow and snow showers all the way through there, so that's a hit or miss, but I wouldn't deny that they probably are right on that one.
Well, we're starting to get some snow, which is good. It's also kept a lot of dust down. The other day when I was down at the station, I couldn't believe all the dust. Oh, it's bad down here. I mean, it's awful. I'm trying to figure out where the dust came from because they did not sand the roads this year. Even though they were icy as all bejeebies, there was like almost no sand on them. So I'm scratching my head trying to figure out where all this dust came from.
Well, it's there for sure, and what happens is it gets into the air, and it makes the air up this-a-way not so good. So the snow was welcome in the sense that it kept all the dust down. Oh, yeah, there's that. And also, don't forget, you know, we always have Mount Spur out there who might just give us a little sanding. That one, you know, and we're going to head out, but...
That one I think people really need to pay attention to and take seriously, not to alarm anybody, but you can't just ignore that. If we get an eruption... It could be a big problem. Don't forget your pets about that, too. Yes, absolutely. Okay. Well, we checked off one week, Daryl. I think we made it through. And we've got one more week to go before Crash returns. In the meantime, have a great weekend and get ready for St. Patrick's Day. Same to you.
All right, we will see everybody on St. Patrick's Day, which is Monday. Hey, everyone. You know, let's all stop what we're doing right now and take a moment. That felt good, huh? Just like that, we had a nice, special sort of moment. Together. Of course, they don't all need to be quiet moments to be special. They could be loud moments, goofy moments, sporty moments, dorky moments. Moments where we talk or walk or just hang out. It doesn't really matter.
They all count. Because every time dads like us take a moment like that to spend with our kids, well, it's pretty momentous. Sounds like somebody agrees. So let's take a moment to make a moment today. Call 877-4DAD-411 or visit fatherhood.gov. Brought to you by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Ad Council.
