The results of our charity, our apostolate, and our prayer life depend in part on the generosity with which we practice them. Following Jesus's parable of the sower, we should sow with gusto so that as much seed as possible falls on good soil.
So often we are motivated more by the desire to prove to ourselves (and to others) our own perfection than the desire to imitate God in the perfection of his love.
St. Paul gives us a list in the Second Letter to the Corinthians of everything we will be looking forward to in Apostolate. We can each also imitate St. Paul and write out what we expect from our life as apostles and strive to embrace some of the more difficult elements Paul includes.
True Compassion True Food Jesus has compassion and feeds us amazingly with his Bread and with His Word, the Eucharist and Sacred Scripture in New and Old Testaments. We want to have true compassion with those God gives us to meet, know and serve. This true compassion demands true food, in evangelization that has the urgency and daring of the 12 Apostles, and all of us, called to be apostles to the others. We will have to overcome obstacles which lead to false compassion and false food.

"You received without charge, give without charge" says Jesus. The Church seeks souls, not money. We see this in the fact that there is no fee for sacraments, for entry into churches etc. But also "the labourer deserves his keep" means that we should at the same time donate money to the Church.

“Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.” Today's gospel (Mk 12:13-17) speaks to us of the right love for our country (patriotism) as opposed to a wrong and excessive love (nationalism). We should obey civil authority and pay taxes (the Bible is very clear about this), while always recognising the temporary and relative nature of any nation or State. Do we just insult our politicians or do we actually pray for them?
Jesus's parable of the vineyard and the tenants tells us of our responsibility for God's creation and for each other. The crazy plan of the tenants, to kill the owner's son and thus receive his inheritance, turns out to be God's own plan for our redemption.
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. (John 3:16) What is the greatest gift we could imagine? As we consider the Holy Trinity, we remember and cherish the fact that God the Father sent His Son to save us, drawing us into the inner life of the Trinity. What a gift! We are born in the Spirit through baptism and become daughters and sons in the Son. Because God loves us that much.
Today we hear about Jesus first direct confrontation with the Chief priests in Jerusalem. They ultimately manifest a form of agnosticism about the Authority of John the Baptist. We too need to recognize agnosticism as a non-starter for religious discussion and to encourage those who profess it to take a stand one way or another so we can work from there.
Jesus cleanses the Temple. He also is the Temple! We, too are Temples of the Holy Spirit. We can, so often, forget the amazing unity that is our very person: body and soul at once! We ask for the grace to bear God in our body, and welcome Him in our soul, that He may be also manifested in our everyday life. Our living this way will awake others to the amazing unity of soul and flesh that can glorify God even in such little things.
