This description of the Church speaks to us of our mutual belonging to Christ. We belong together in the Church as members of the Body of Christ. This belonging frees us from attachment to our belongings. Because we are one in Christ, our private possessions and talents are generously used for the glory of God and in service to others.

The second Sunday of Easter is also known as Divine Mercy Sunday. On this day we hear about Jesus giving the Apostles the power to bind and loose sins, establishing the Sacrament of Confession. This is a tremendous gift of God’s mercy which we should receive with joy and peace.
St. Mark gives us a summary of the days from Easter morning to the moments before the Ascension. It ends with the "Great Commission", the call to evangelize. We were not there when this historically happened, but we have the Word of God and the faith life of saints of the ages. We can encounter Jesus in this Word and life and rejoice in what we have received. We cannot but pass on this treasure we have received as a trust to be lived.
