Filipinos are accustomed to using social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok to share news, pictures, personal views, and nearly anything that’s going on in their lives. With this, an enormous amount of information that people share, some of which are very personal, are freely circulating the Web.  While the Philippines has strengthened its privacy and security protections through the Data Privacy Act in 2012, is this enough in the context of the rapid growth of the digital economy and increasing international trade of data?
