Madame Loisel was a beautiful woman of average means. She lived in a small apartment in Paris with her husband, who worked as a clerk in the Ministry of Education. Madame Loisel had always wanted to lead a life of luxury and be part of the upper class society, but she was unable to do so because of her modest means.

For the next ten years, Madame Loisel and her husband worked hard to pay off the debt caused by the necklace. They lived a meager lifestyle and sacrificed all luxuries.
Finally, at the end of ten years, Madame Loisel and her husband had paid off their debt. But one day, Madame Loisel unexpectedly ran into M. Forestier. When she asked about the necklace, he revealed that the necklace he had loaned her was a fake.
Madame Loisel was shocked with relief. She had suffered for ten years, sacrificing all luxuries, desperately trying to pay off a debt for something that was not even real. Her suffering had been in vain.
