Intro / Opening

I'm a zombie. I've been bitten. You're listening to the survival podcast for zombie nerds everywhere. is zombies ate my podcast hello and welcome to zombies ate my podcast i'm your host ryan murphy and joining me as always the busy zombie lord lou page how's it going lou it's starting to get cold man starting to get cold

I can feel it in my bones. Yes, it is getting cold. It must be almost Halloween. We're getting there. We were just talking about when we would be recording next. Turns out it's Halloween's Eve Eve. Ooh. Devil's night. Yeah. Yeah. We're going to do something spooky. We're going to play an EA game. Ooh. It's about the most unspooky zombie game out there.

Yeah, it's PopCap. It's rising from the dead. We decided to revisit Plants vs. Zombies with the new replanted version of the game, which is out October 23rd. And we thought, oh, this is perfect. We always say we want to play some video games. Why not Plants vs. Zombies? So, yeah, that's something we'll be talking about next episode. This episode, however, we have Marvel Zombies to talk about, which is a four part miniseries follow up to a what if episode on Disney Plus.

So we're going to talk about that later on the show. And before we get to all the other fun that we have planned, I did want to do a quick update because there's no way we're doing another full episode on Dead City. Maybe again. We'll see. We'll cover it in the news. We'll watch the trailers. But I finished Dead City. And man, that show just...

I read a review that said it's great till about the last two episodes and then the last two episodes, it goes so off the rails that it makes you go, oh yeah, this is a Walking Dead show. Yes. The last two episodes, you know, this was something we discovered during our episode. We were looking into like, oh, what? We didn't watch the whole thing. I feel bad. We should have at least spoiled it for ourselves and read into it. And the fact that the Dama comes back, she's not actually dead.

The last two episodes consist of Negan going full Negan, returning to his dark past of like, in order to protect everybody, I just got to kill them all. So he goes full Negan. The Croat is thrown out and almost dies, but survives and crawls back into the dark. He'll probably come back at some point. The Dama returns and basically convinces. Herschel to join her against against his own mother. And Maggie somehow stabs Negan again to kill him. But then.

She she turns again and is on his side because because they have a shared a shared friend, close friend that that passes away. And they kind of snap back from that to kind of join forces again. So like in that last two episodes, you have... You have Maggie transitioning back to her old self. It's like, yeah, I got to kill Negan. There's no way I can move on to trying to kill him, to him accepting his fate.

to them reuniting like he gets stabbed in the back and they kind of just like tis a flesh wound and he's fine uh it's it's literally a repeat of the ending of season one where they fight And they make, they repair their bonds and Oh, a greater evil surfaces, which is once again, uh, uh, the Babylon Federation. Um, And it ends with this cheesy voiceover as they play old clips and show the Federation marching through the streets of New York.

Like, this has to end with season three, right, Lou? Please. I think it has to. We talked pre-show. I don't know if Walking Dead is going to ever go away completely. I think it might. I know there's talk of them trying to do that, like, stories of the...

the walking dead universe thing again, like do another six episodes. I think that those are going to all be backdoor pilots. And if one of those does really well, they might do might greenlit another show, but I, I have a. sneaking suspicion that after that, if none of those shows excite people, I have a funny feeling we might be seeing the end of The Walking Dead finally.

If nothing else, because AMC is changing their focus to the Anne Rice universe. As I was telling Ryan pre-show, I think there's four shows now in the Anne Rice universe. And I think there's a possible fifth one coming. And if that's the case, AFC's got bigger fish to fry than The Walking Dead. They've clearly realized that that cash cow walked away. Now they've got to work on something else.

Well, I do wonder if this is like a Spider-Man Sony licensing situation where if they just keep making Walking Dead, they get to keep making Walking Dead. And maybe they just keep the lights on by. The lights being the owners of the television rights, if they just kind of make a show every year, I'm not opposed to that. Usually those kind of contracts have like a three-year gap.

So they could probably get away with no show for three years and still come back and do another show in three years if they want to keep the license. Yeah, I really do think there is... diminishing returns on The Walking Dead when you are mining what would be considered the top tier characters with the Rick and Michonne show. Wrap that story up. You've got Daryl and Carol. You have Maggie and Negan. There really aren't other top-tier characters unless they really nail it with a new story.

I mean, maybe they get wild and do something different, you know, and do something. They haven't necessarily been rewarded by doing new things, right? Although Fear ran for, what, seven seasons? So I think it's the longest besides regular Walking Dead. And even then, I was surprised that they even got those last couple seasons. Yeah.

Well, I'm not opposed to more The Walking Dead, but I would appreciate maybe a different... just a different spin on it don't do the same like dead city is the same thing in a different location in a very similar location i get it new york city has a lot of character you can kind of set it there and and and and have a different But at the end of the day, it kind of boils down to the same Walking Dead antics. And I don't know. I'm not looking forward to season three and we will likely not.

We'll watch the trailers. I was just glad that our main topic this week was something I was very excited to watch. Yes, yeah, we've got two back-to-back episodes here with some fun zombie content that we enjoyed consuming. So Marvel Zombies is something we're going to talk about. later on in the show. But before we get to the news, we have our Extra Life plug, tiny.cc slash Extra Life Ryan. We've gotten some fantastic donations.

so far if you donate $25 you can suggest a zombie film for us to discuss and if you donate $50 you can suggest three zombie films for us to discuss Uh, you got to make sure those movies are available in North America, either rent stream or purchase and donations close on December 31st. And I was going to say to Lou, uh, The bonus of the $50 and choosing three movies is we know that 70s, 80s, and 90s horror loved to make multiple sequels.

It was almost a done deal that you'd find a series of six films for some of this stuff. And Lou, I know we talked pre-show. I understand you've got a suggestion here. My suggestion here is Phantasm. I am almost 100% sure that Ryan has never seen Phantasm. I have not, no. It is 70s as hell. um and i i find at least the first film the first two or three films are really fun um those last couple are oh those are dogs um

But we could watch that. We also talked about the possibility we could always do cooties with an all-star cast of children zombies that the teachers are having to take out. That's a fun one. So if you donate, there's a couple ideas. Yeah, I think that we've got a lot of fun ahead of us. And as we said, Extra Life is on until December 31st. And we'll be sprinkling in these films throughout the rest of the year.

and into next year. So if you donate today, we'll get it on the list. So stay tuned for that. But now we're going to move into the news.

News

The virus has completely devastated over 150 of the world's major regions and is spreading rapidly. This was a fun surprise. We're going to start off with something a little different. Primal is a series by the dude behind Samurai Jack, I believe. Yeah. Genndy Tchaikovsky. Yeah, and that one season of Star Wars Clone Wars, but not the... Yeah, the one that they won't ever re-air or re-release or put on Disney+.

um really and apparently i read somewhere he's a little bent out of shape because you know how they're doing all those like star wars animated each one's a different style thing yeah that he really wanted to do one and Disney kind of told him no. And so I've heard somewhere that he's kind of a little bent out of shape and angry at Disney. So we'll see. That's too bad. Well.

We're not angry with him. He's not angry with us. And primal season three has a zombie twist. It appears as though the main character, I don't know if this is a spoilers for season two. I watched a little bit of season one because it was curious.

And honestly, now that season three looks like something we could cover for the show, I might go back and watch it. It's a quick watch. They're like 20 minute episodes. And I think there's maybe like 10 episodes a season, but season three is a zombie movie. I didn't even know what this was until you posted it. Oh, really? Our notes. Cool. Yeah. The last thing I saw that Tarkovsky was working on.

Was he does the Hotel Transylvania movies. Does he? Yeah. Those are his. Really? No. The 3D animated ones? Aren't they? Yeah. He's the director on those. No way. I don't think that's... Is it true? Yep. I'm just looking it up because it just seems so... It says Todd Durham. He's involved with the animation, I thought. No, he did the first one, Hotel Transylvania.

Genndy Tarotowski. Genndy. Why am I not? Oh, gosh, you're right. What? You're blowing my mind. He did the first three. He directed the first three. yeah i think the last one i think there's a fourth one i think that might be the one he he produced but did not direct yeah you're right hotel transfer transylvania transforming transformania Okay. All right. Well, we learn something new every single day.

Primal Season 3, definitely a zombie show. I'm adding it to our watch list. I don't know. I think it's on Adult Swim and premieres January 2026, which is appearing to be... a very busy month for zombies. Uh, we only usually get two episodes a month and there is three count on three big announced, uh, zombie projects for that month. You've got the bone temple. You've got primal.

And then we finally have a trailer for We Bury the Dead, which is a Daisy Ridley-led film, which screamed to me 28 days later when I watched this film.

trailer i should say yeah no i i think i i saw this trailer and i forgot to put it in our notes and you i think uh a listener did and so we've added to our notes um i watched this and i went oh this is dark and different for daisy ridley uh this seems like we're like traditional horror we haven't seen something like this in a while yeah yeah it's uh it appears to be so that the synopsis is after a catastrophic american military experiment

Resulting in mass casualties across Tasmania, Ava joins a body retrieval unit to help identify the dead and search for her husband in the southern part of the island. I mean, watching this trailer, it's very, as you said, Lou, like it's very traditional horror, very dark.

Their sort of background track for this trailer is teeth grinding. So if that really bugs you, do not watch this trailer. And I literally wrote that in our notes that there's just this sound of... teeth and i just it was really unsettling there's a uh i forget the name of it there's a i think it's south american horror movie and they're not zombies they're possessed by demons

And it's like and it's got giving me this is giving me the same vibes I got from that. I'm hoping it's not as dark as that demon movie because the demon movie is like. So dark, I had to, like, take a break and stop watching. Yeah.

And I mean, this is getting already good reviews because it premiered at South by Southwest this year, and it's got an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is just pretty good for this type of... uh for for horror films i mean the horror genre actually is is doing quite well i should say it's it's doing just fine for for rotten tomato scores but uh this it again it looks like a traditional

return for zombies a more serious take and i don't know i don't know what's caused this resurgence maybe the last of us on hbo maybe like i don't know We've been hearing about this movie for a while, I think, though. Yeah, I think we heard something about it, but we didn't see a trailer till now. So it looked good. Yeah, it definitely looks like we'll we'll see.

We'll see some new zombie content for the new year. I'm excited for that. Yep. 2026 year of the zombie. Uh, but before we get to that, uh, we have this podcast series. Not our podcast. I know it's weird, a podcast recommending a podcast, but they're doing something different. This is Table Read Podcast. They have started a Night of the Living Dead series. This was posted in the Discord by one of our listeners.

And I really like this idea. I haven't had a chance to check this out, but I really like this idea of like a table read with voice actors. It's a bunch of voice actors. They get together and they read. uh, scripts for movies and they did night of the living dead, the original. So I'm kind of, I, this is, this has been added to my pod, my podcast player. So I'm definitely going to check this out. Cause it's night of the living dead.

I've seen pretty bad remakes of it, so the table read can't be that bad. Yeah, I mean, it should be fun. I mean, looking at some of their their crew. It looks like they've had some interesting guest stars as they do their table reads just through the images here. including Phil Dunphy. Not the character, but the actor. I can't remember the guy's name. But yeah, they've got act one, Night of the Living Dead.

as of this recording posted to their feed and they look like they've got like a whole slew of, uh, of, of table reads that they've done. And, uh, yeah. Night of the living dead. Always a threat. Public domain. So I'm sure they don't get into any sort of issues there. That probably helped. Yeah. And I think someone was saying that this is the...

This is the version that was like, this is the original script before they changed, made some tweaks and changes during post. I believe it is. Yeah. So that's cool. But I haven't had a chance to check it out. It sounds like perfect Halloween listening, to be honest. Absolutely. If you're looking for some of that, check out Table Read Podcast for this Night of the Living Dead. Read.

We mentioned at the top of the show, we're going to check out Plants vs. Zombies Replanted. That's out October 23rd. So if you want to join in, that's out next week. I already have my copy. Yeah, you picked it up on Steam. I picked it up on Steam. I can't play it until the 23rd, but it's in the list. It's ready to go. Nice. So we'll be playing that $30 Canadian. I'm assuming $20 American, maybe 25. Yeah, 20. Oh, perfect. So there you go. I think it's available on everything.

So Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch. Display vs. Zombies. I'm sure it'll be on mobile phones, too. Oh, maybe. Man, I loved... that series like and and i always say that series but then i then i think you reminded me when this news first broke that like no ryan like there was one actual game and the rest were mobile and or not plants versus zombies they were

the garden warfare games yeah yeah so there really was only one plants versus zombies game yes it's wild and i think it's i think they left some money on the table i think there's some different ideas that they could do with it so yeah i'm hoping look my expectations are low but i'm hoping with this replanted version it can sort of give them an idea of like, hey, maybe we make a proper Plants vs. Zombies sequel. So if this does well... Well...

If EA is going in the direction it seems like they might be, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see something. Yeah. Hopefully. So Plants vs. Zombies replanted out very soon. And speaking of mobile games, we have one story here. Now this, I think this is a good news story. We talked about the Resident Evil Survival Unit strategy game, which will be arriving before the end of the year.

Folks involved with the game have been giving interviews, and they made a point of saying that they will not be using paid gacha mechanics to unlock your favorite characters. So you won't have to, like... pay money to open loot boxes essentially to get your favorite characters. You can unlock it all through gameplay if you engage with the systems. However, you can purchase to unlock them early if you so choose.

How do you feel about that, Luke? I'm excited for this idea. I'm worried it means the game is going to be grindy as hell. Yeah. It definitely looks like it's something I'd like to give it a shot. I play several mobile phone games, but I try to stick to stuff that I pay for, and then boom, it's mine. I don't have to keep... dipping into the well to buy stuff. But that's just me personally. I don't like the freedom of play mechanics. Though there are a few free-to-play games I play on my phone.

There's stuff that I've never actually spent any money on. Yeah. I'm bad for certain mobile games. And I know that if I engage with it, I am going to get hooked. But I won't spend money.

so i will actually like do the daily login and and grind and and go that sort of route to like get resources and i very rarely will put money in because i always feel like it's oh if i put money in like it goes like nothing happens you get short-term gains and suddenly you don't have 10 bucks anymore and it just never feels good

So. It's not zombie related, but I'm going to pitch something here. Okay. If. If you're looking for something that's free to play, and I'm only pitching this because I really like this game, and this is like the second iteration of this game, because the last one got taken out when that... What's it called? NFT thing crashed because they'd been bought by an NFT company. There's a game called Once Upon a Galaxy. It's sort of like Hearthstone meets a battle.

one of those auto battlers and I have been playing since the beta for almost a year. I have unlocked almost everything. I have never spent a dime on it. So if you're looking for a free-to-play game that you can actually unlock everything without actually spending any money, this one's kind of awesome. Oh, wow. Is a straight up Hearthstone. Like, don't tell Blizzard.

Oh, this is the second iteration. This is the second iteration. There was a prior game, and it is just different enough that Hearthstone can't do anything about it. Because you're not building decks. You draft every round. That's how it works. Okay. Interesting. But if you're looking for something on your mobile phone, rounds only take like maybe two, three minutes. Oh, that's cool. I mean, games only take like two, three minutes. It's pretty good. Yeah. It's also on Steam.

Well, if you're waiting for Resident Evil Survival Unit, you've got a good recommendation right there with Once Upon a Galaxy. So before you unlock Leon and Barry and Jill... You can go play Card Battler. Now, that's our news for this evening, but we do have our main topic, which, of course, is Disney Plus' Marvel Zombies.

Marvel Zombies (2025)

I don't know what button to push. It's the yellow one. This yellow one? No, no, no. Oh, that one right there? The other yellow one. Okay. Saving the world. Go. How long do you think it'll take to get an answer? I don't know. How far away are the Novacorp people? Turns out not very far. Not very far indeed. So lots of clips that could be brought out of Marvel Zombies, but I thought that moment was fun and illustrated the...

The sort of what if nature of this series in that nobody is safe and it doesn't matter if to the greater universe of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, if things happen. to characters and we'll get into that. But after the Avengers are overtaken by a zombie plague, a group of survivors discover the key to bringing an end to the super powered undead.

racing across a dystopian landscape and risking their lives to save the world. This premiered all four episodes on Disney Plus just a few weeks ago, late September. And we're here to chat about it. This is a direct sequel to a single What If episode back from season one. I was so glad to see that because that was my biggest fear going into this was that it was going to rehash everything we learned about that. What if episode.

And it totally is just a continuation of that episode. And I was like, oh, okay. This is better than I was – they put some thought into this, which was really, really clever. Going into this, I have one complaint going through with the whole series. Some of the actors or characters don't look enough like their MCU counterparts. that I was left questioning who the hell they were until someone called them by their name. And I went, Oh, okay. That's who they are. And I'm talking about Baron. Yeah.

zemo what's it zemo i'm talking about zemo um and also uh the guy his sidekick is john walker aka uh the other captain america and It took me a minute to figure out that that's who those were. And I was like, oh, OK. I was like more than halfway through the episode and someone calls him Zemo. And I went.

oh okay that's who he is i knew he was supposed to be somebody but there's some weird uh throwaway characters that get brought up specifically for me it was the first episode where uh captain marvel is who is a zombie is fighting another character which at the time i'm like i missed it blinking you miss it when they say the name and i didn't recognize the character i had to google it

And it's the same. This was the same issue. I read an article somewhere, I think, where they talked about that character being in the show. And I was like, when? Yeah. And then it was like, oh, that's who Carol Danvers was fighting. OK, that makes sense. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, like the show is is very well crafted. It tells a true to its nature zombie story where like.

um shit does not go the way of the heroes in every instance and and to a certain degree yeah doesn't at all like it's got a very zombie classic ending of just well shit where do we go from here well season two hopefully but yeah rumor is season two has been greenlit but they haven't officially announced it yet that's the rumor i've heard um

Fingers crossed. Fingers crossed. I believe this was a huge success for Disney+. But it captures your imagination immediately with our three heroes in the beginning. Kate Bishop, Ironheart, and Ms. Marvel. And I was worried that I wasn't going to enjoy it because they're not all my favorite characters.

And they were going to be our leads. And they make each one more compelling than I was expecting. And I was sucked in for the whole way through. Well, Kamala Khan is fantastic in this series. She's... Basically the main character throughout the series, right? Yes. And, you know, there's just enough David Harbour to be exciting.

Jimmy Woo shows up. When Jimmy Woo showed up, I was like, oh my God, Jimmy Woo. I'm excited. We haven't seen him since Ant-Man in the, I think it was Ant-Man and the Wasp, maybe? No, he was in Ant-Man and the Wasp, too. I think that was before WandaVision, though. No, it was after. Well, Quantumania. Was he in Quantumania? Is that what you're talking about? No, he's the...

Maybe it is quantum mania. I know he's in one of the Ant-Man movies. Oh, no, he's in. I think he is an Ant-Man regular. He's in he's in the first two for sure. But one. the marvel universe it's it's a yeah winding confusing road but this is this is very separate but pulls a lot of characters from the series throughout and you're right like um I do love, though, that they focus in on the newer characters because your Avengers classics are zombies now.

Yeah, and I think that was a really good twist, is you get introduced to characters that you are familiar with, like Shang-Chi and stuff, and they're sort of your heroes. But whenever they get chased by bad guys, it's pretty much Captain America or one of the other really big heroes that chase them. And you're just like... well damn they they took some time to to to think this through and you're not left going well if captain america was here this wouldn't happen it's like no no well if

So-and-so was here. Nope. Doctor Strange can't help you either. Everybody's gone. And I think that was an excellent twist to what was going on. Well, I mean, I also loved the fact that we got Blade slash Moon Knight in in this. Yeah, that was an interesting twist is. Blade shows up and he's all in white. And I was like, this is weird. And then all of a sudden he makes a reference to Khonshu. And I went, oh, he's also Moon Knight. That's awesome.

Well, they they speak to him carrying on the mantle from a dear friend. So like he knew I don't know the character's name. I can't remember. I really liked Moon Knight as a series. Yeah. And I do hope we do get the Midnight Suns traditional comic book team. That would be so cool. I have a theory where we're going in the MCU.

And I think Midnight Sun is coming, but I don't think it's I don't think it's I think it's phase seven. Yeah. Is there some mutants that they need to wait for, like the X-Men? Yeah. OK.

Yeah, that's true. And they have to introduce a couple of other characters that haven't been introduced yet. And I think they need to wrap up this multiverse stuff with Doctor Doom. And I think that's going to take, I think, to... the end of phase six oh yeah well no it's it's done like are we are we still in phase five or are we in phase i think this is phase six and it's done with secret wars

in 2027 okay so we're nearly there i think when that ends i think they're gonna push in the direction of midnight suns and see what sticks And if it sticks, I have a funny feeling we're going to see Midnight Suns and we're going to see more Mephisto and stuff. It could lead to more content for this show. Yeah. Well, I am really glad that they brought Blade into Marvel Zombies in a unique way. It's interesting, in the news, I saw some interviews where they were talking about Blade.

in marvel zombies and they were saying like when we started production we knew we thought we knew blade would be out before marvel zombies but we didn't foresee that blade would essentially not exist in the MCU before our show came out. I don't know if that meant they like merged him with Moon Knight to give him a different twist. Like maybe he was going to play closer to what the movie would be.

I'm glad that they did this. They did the twist like they had the character with the same actor playing the voice roles like all of the other characters except for Spider-Man. I should mention because. Tom Hollins can't go into a VO booth. I really never understood that. I don't believe the voice actor is the same as who's going to play Blade. It is the same guy. Yeah. No, it is the same. Is it?

yeah um i want to get his name because i want to get it right and um uh he is playing blade and let's see the cast here i just want again i want to get it right before it's not him i'm pretty sure I think it is. I thought it was. They used his likeness. I think it's a different. Oh, you're right. I thought it was the same guy. No, it's Todd Williams. Man, it sounds. Yeah.

It sounds very close. It sounds so close. I didn't notice it until just before we started recording when I was looking at a cast list. And I was like, oh, wow, really? Interesting. Well. Yeah, that's unfortunate. I thought it was him. And again, it goes the route of every episode is an arc of the story. The first arc, they're trying to get to a base.

I think it's on the West Coast. Yeah. And held up there is Black Widow, whatever David Harbour's character is. I can never remember. The Red something. Red Guardian. red guardian and uh the woman who helped train uh the black widows i think that that's where chapter episode one goes episode two goes that they're trying to get out by way to the ocean. They end up in what is the raft, I believe. It's the floating prison for supervillains. And...

That doesn't go well. We get to see zombie Namor, which I thought was hugely brilliant. He was not a character I expected to see come up. But when they went into the water, I was like, I wonder, nope, we definitely get Namor. And the thing that I think they did well is... Every character that is a zombie is somebody that was likely a big actor that they'd have a hard time getting to do the voice. And by making them a zombie, they didn't need the voice. They just needed the likeness. Yeah.

Well, the fact that they because if you remember first season of What If had some prominent characters like Black Panther played by Chadwick Boseman. who sadly passed away shortly before it was released. The what if season one, his character returns in this season, but he doesn't speak. He is, and he doesn't show up as a zombie. He.

He is there and present through narration from Spider-Man as they discuss. Because the story... of the mcu is happening around the zombie apocalypse including the fact that zombie thanos has collected all the stones and and that's what happens to black panther he sacrifices himself to stop uh thanos which causes um a giant energy torrent that then the hulk has to absorb uh which kind of kind of look the story goes a little bit well it goes into the what if

pretty quickly. And I think Scarlet Witch, which was introduced as the big bad in the first episode, What If?

continues to be the big bad but the fact that they give her the ability to um she's basically an all-powerful zombie but she's self she's self-aware like she's still there like she's able to like communicate as a human and adapt reality like she kind of describes it as I wish I had the clip but she describes it as like sort of slowly regaining her control over reality because that's her power and is able to project herself as i've cured myself or have a conversation and impact people's

Thoughts and feelings and vision as well. She's almost the most dangerous person that you wouldn't want a zombie. Yeah. They basically lay that out. You watch as they slowly keep trying to escape and things keep getting worse and worse and worse and worse to the point where with the MacGuffin that they've been chasing the whole show, which is literally this device that they're going to call the Nova core with. And.

You see that they're going to call the Nova Corps. And then when they find call the Nova Corps, they find out, oh, they're already here. And the planet is under quarantine. I love that. oh my gosh it was such a good i mean it was such i thought it was a really good twist because i was like half expecting like oh man are they like gonna bring in the nova core for the

Finale? Because here I am still like innocent Ryan, assuming that this is going to have a happy ending. When they got to the Nova Corps was there and the planet was under quarantine, I was like, oh, this is not going to have a happy ending. No. but it makes sense like the nova core being there to quarantine the planet like they're the the guard they are the original guardians of the galaxy like to the point where they they sort of take over to to keep it safe in in there

In their eyes, they're doing what they need to do to keep it safe. But yeah, like Valkyrie quickly realizes like, oh, this is not good. And they're basically trapped on the planet, so essentially they have to save themselves in order to be able to get the Nova Corps off their back. But it doesn't go that way. They have this big final battle. And everyone kind of bites it. Everyone dies. Everyone dies. And we're left with Miss Marvel basically projecting that everything was a dream.

and then she's walking around and all of her friends are back and then reality flickers for a minute and you see the zombies and then it flickers back and you're like oh she's under a spell of some kind So – and it hints that there's going to be more, but if there wasn't going to be more, it's the traditional bad zombie movie ending. And I'm cool with that.

But I definitely think that this is going to get a season two. And I think we'll eventually get a happy ending. And I'm willing to bet that season two will have a Deadpool zombie. oh yeah no deadpool in this uh although one could argue this might have been in production before deadpool like made his official Yes, I think it was. This has been in production since that What If episode aired. Yeah, yeah. That episode was sort of a backdoor pilot for this. Yes.

And then Riri Williams, Ironheart, she pops back up at the end of the season, supposedly using this formula she had to say, she gets bit in episode one. And she's like, this is not how I wanted to test this. And she injects herself. And then we don't see her again. She kind of stays back to hold the zombies off while Kamala Khan escapes. And then she pops back up at the end.

outside of the dream sort of sequence that Scarlet Witch has set up. Yeah, and I think that that's our setup for season two. Yeah. they're going to slowly start undoing the chaos. And I think that that's, I think it's going to be fun. Yeah. If they do another season, which I, it seems highly likely that they are. I think it'll be a.

two seasons and over. I don't think that we get a season three. Yeah. Yeah. They, so it's interesting because like, so I found this article, um, uh, speaking to marvel zombies and this is from brad uh winderbaum who's the marvel's executive producer and head of tv basically addressing like the whole multiverse thing And saying like, you know, I think one of the valid criticisms of multiverse storytelling is that when you have multiple realities, the stakes diminish.

But there's another way to look at it when you have the opportunity with something like Marvel Zombies, where it actually raises the stakes quite a bit in a pocket universe outside of the MCU, where death feels very final and we don't have to worry about putting the toys... back in the toy box unbroken, you can really just make a mess. And that's exactly what Marvel zombies is. It's like the core Avengers are dead. Disney's always trying to bring them back again. Wolverine.

Hugh Jackman's going to be at it until he's 90. That is not a joke. That is like probably something they contractually had to say in Deadpool Wolverine. So yeah, the fact that you get to, and, and again, like, you know, People complain about the multiverse. I get it. I get the criticism. But at the end of the day, it is a phase. It will be over soon. And it's led to some fun stuff. And I think some of the weaker MCU entries...

were the ones that dipped their toe in, but did nothing with the multiverse, you know? Yes. They only vaguely hinted to it. They didn't... Jump in full force. Yeah. Yeah. Like the Loki seasons. Amazing. That's totally multiverse. I liked Doctor Strange Thor for not great. No multiverse stuff to speak of. You know, the Spider-Man No Way Home. Amazing multiverse stuff. Captain America Brave New World. No multiverse stuff. Not great.

Thunderbolts was pretty good. I thought it was okay and didn't really delve. I really liked Thunderbolts. And I think that was mostly because it is setting up for what... the future of what's going on. I loved fantastic four. Okay. I have not seen that yet. So yeah, you should, I think you'd love it. I really enjoyed it. I went to see it with my oldest, uh, Caden and we both.

Absolutely adored it. I'm a big Marvel fan and I do like it when they do stuff that's different. And I felt like Fantastic Four is like, okay, come on. We need one of these. these to work you know uh and and i think they did a really great job and i am a pedro pascal fan like a big fan of pedro pascal so you know it had a lot going for it for me

But I would love to hear your thoughts. But yeah, Marvel Zombies is just, it's this really interesting opportunity to play around in this universe in a different genre that we don't normally see. I would say I'm not a heavy reader of comics. I used to be. I'm familiar with the plot and I've read some of the Marvel zombie comic stuff. And it's okay. I liked this better than I liked the comics.

Yeah. I have not read a lot of Marvel comics. I've been mostly just consuming through the MCU. Well, I'm talking about Zombies itself. Oh, okay. The Marvel Zombie comic series. It's okay. This show is better. Okay. Yeah, I've not read the comics, although I would be interested to check it out. I wonder if they might have like a volume. They do. I think there's a book that's a collection of all of it. I think there's two books because they've done the Marvel Zombies thing twice. Yes.

This has been two. I wonder. Oh, neat. Yeah, they have. So I was just I was just wondering if they had a volume. Oh, at the light. So at our local library, they have volumes three through five. I don't know how that helps. Those would be the trades. Those would be the trades. So it's probably a compel of 12 issues. So a year's run is each volume. I just find it weird that they don't have Volumes 1 and 2. You can't really jump in Volume 3. Somebody probably ruined them.

Probably. Some of those trades are not great. I used to buy the Deadpool ones, and two or three reads through, and I started having pages fall out. And I take really good... care of stuff so maybe they have uh they do have a digital service which is uh i think it's called comics plus maybe they have it there like it's older stuff so sometimes that stuff is available i'll have to check it out

I'd be curious to read those. But yeah, if you have Disney+, then check out Marvel Zombies. It's really good. It's four episodes. Very quick watch. It's perfect for the Halloween season. Yes. Yeah. But definitely not for the kiddos. Don't be mistaken that because it's Marvel, it's kid friendly. It is not kid friendly. No. Unless your kid is my kid and likes gore and zombies. Yeah. This is rated M. And I would say that, yeah, they definitely...

They definitely they definitely ratchet it up. This isn't like the what if episode from from the Disney Plus series. So you'll want to. Keep that in mind as you investigate this show. But coming up next on Zamp, as we mentioned, Plants vs. Zombies Replanted gives us the video game revival of our dreams. So we're going to do that.

Then it's Daryl and Carol's turn to take on The Walking Dead Spotlight after Dead City. Then we'll have our first Extra Life movie with The Battery. So stay tuned for that. Uh, yeah, Lou, that's going to do it for our episode. I want to thank the patrons at patreon.com slash zombies ate my podcast. You can visit us on the web at zombies ate my podcast.com.
