Hi listeners of Zdenek's English podcast. Welcome to another episode. I promised to you in the last one that I would publish the episode with Ben, Ben Gill from the To The Point English with Ben but it's not happening. There is another one that I have to do first and that's this one.
It's not the most enjoyable one for me but I'll have to do it anyway. Just to give you a bit of context I'm actually walking towards the town center from my place from where I am based which is a village on the outskirts of the town called Podiebrady and the long-term listeners of Zdenek's English podcast might remember that I used to record a series with my cousin called Road to Civilization and in that series I would basically go with my cousin to the town center from that
village and we would always talk about some animal sounds that we would hear on our way and there's a forest you have to go through so I'm doing exactly that. So I've got about 20 minutes to do this and there's a reason for it. There are a few things I would like to share with you. Where do I begin? Where do I start? Well I should start from the beginning right?
Well basically guys yesterday wasn't the best day of my life. First of all I had to go to a dentist and the first well there you go there's a dog barking so it started with a dentist. I actually made a mistake and I went there too early but fortunately the person that was supposed to have an appointment at 8 a.m. didn't show up so I could go instead of them but my appointment was
for 1 p.m. Can you believe it? I actually messed up the time difference because when I was making that appointment via a Skype call from Vietnam I didn't realize that the time difference was the thing. So yeah anyway it was fine. I mean it really wasn't because the previous my previous visits to a dentist were okay. Like you know my teeth have been all right for a long time. Well not anymore so apparently I had a few cavities. Small ones apart from those
that I had on my teeth number eight. I don't know if it's how you say it in English but basically on your eighth teeth the further the further most teeth you have in your mouth and your jaw whatever you say yeah those teeth that are far far the furthest away from the front if that makes any sense or the further most I don't know how you say this you know what I mean those that
are furthest in your mouth and those that sometimes are referred to as the wisdom teeth okay. So you know often people have problems with their wisdom teeth when they are sort of cutting through the gum because they hurt and they don't root in properly and often people have have to have these wisdom teeth pulled. Well that wasn't my case. My wisdom teeth had been okay well until yesterday when my dentist sent me to have an x-ray and found out that I've got cavities on two of them.
So not one but two of them and one apparently is not pretty bad but it's you know there's a cavity there and the issue is that she can't get in there because it's too far away so she can't get in there with a drill she can't drill a hole there you see so instead of drilling a hole that wisdom tooth sorry I'm crossing the road here and just let me focus for a bit so I don't want to get run over by a car I should have to run a little bit here okay I've done it
you see in Vietnam you should never do that you should never run in Vietnam when you're crossing the road but here in the Czech Republic is the other way around yeah anyway Hi I'm Helen I like the achievers chamber because it's a nice place where I can learn in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Anyway going back to my tooth story so yeah I will have to have my tooth number eight pulled taken out removed from my mouth and I've never done that I think the last time someone pulled the tooth out of my mouth was ages ago it's probably when I was 10 but it was my do you say milk teeth in in Czech we say milk teeth the first teeth that grow and that always fall out quickly right when you're around nine or ten or something like that so that that might have
happened then but since then my teeth have been all right you know so this is this is really annoying and disappointing and I'll have to have two teeth pulled out so I have been booked for an appointment with a surgeon and yeah so a few surgeries for me coming up soon which is a bit annoying it's not the only one I don't want to talk about the other one but it's nothing it shouldn't be anything serious
yeah touch wood I don't actually have any wood here so if I were superstitious I would actually be a little bit afraid now but I am not superstitious so I don't care I can also touch my sort of head which obviously is full of wood not really but you know I say it as a joke yeah so as I'm walking towards the forest yeah I have to tell you that I'll have two of my teeth pulled I have to repeat that because it's so important for you as my listeners obviously
this is the kind of information you have all been waiting for isn't it because someone said the other day on my website sorry on my youtube channel there was a comment saying that apparently you listeners like me to talk about my private life which I then which I then had to play down a little bit by saying oh my life is boring actually guys sorry for that short interruption somebody was there and they were looking at me so I got a bit
self-conscious and also they greeted me so I waved my hand back I didn't want to speak Czech on this podcast so I wave my hand back can you imagine what wouldn't I do for you my listeners I don't want to confuse you speaking another language on this podcast so yes so my teeth yeah they've got to go and I've got a couple of surgeries lined up it's not pleasant right it's some of it is happening this month the teeth will be happening next month and it's not everything the day didn't
go very well for me yesterday it all went from from bad to worse listeners so what happened well I've got a problem with my host with pot bean and I will have to deal with it in one way or another basically my other podcast Denk of czech podcast the next czech podcast is doing quite well actually I would say that in terms of popularity it has surpassed Zdeněk's English podcast it is what it is and I wonder why it is it's probably because there is more competition when it comes to English
podcasts out there almost every English teacher has a has an English podcast but when it comes to podcasts for Czech learners or learners of the Czech language well that's that's a different story because I think there's still not enough of good podcasts and that's why my podcast has been one of the popular ones let's say out there for Czech learners so I have currently got 40 patrons 40 people that support my podcast and they get an extra episode every week but unfortunately
pot bean my my host or the the hosting platform that I've been using for both my Czech and this English podcast they have recently sent me an email which I read yesterday properly because I didn't have time before and in that email they are pretty much threatening me to to end my plan the current plan which I have had with them since 2017 and that plan was relatively cheap it's like I pay 10 dollars or something every month but I have to do it for for each podcast so
so it's 20 in total or something like that I may not be saying it precisely the point is the point is they're threatened to end this program to end this plan unless I upgrade to a higher tier plan because I think the plan that I'm on currently is no longer offered by them yeah so basically they are forcing me to upgrade and I think they tried the same with me a few years ago I think it was back in the covid time and I basically negotiated with them since I don't
really have this podcast monetized and the Czech podcast was relatively small back then I managed to negotiate with them to keep to keep the the current plan right the plan that I had from from the big that I've had since the beginning but unfortunately now it turns out that I really have to upgrade if if I want to keep having my patrons they have already suspended the ability or they suspended that plan for me so I cannot publish any more mini lessons for my Czech learners which is
annoying so by the way I have to speak a little bit quieter here because I'm entering an area where there's some people working and you know I don't want to scare them off too much and as you know I get self-conscious when I'm around people speaking English because I feel like I'm being watched and listened to and listening listening on is the is the phrase of our pride when somebody is listening in on you basically eavesdropping is another verb to eavesdrop yeah you may hear some
interesting sounds of different machines here currently so I'm give me a few more seconds and I'll be out I'll be out here yeah so um yeah I'm talking about the the problems I have with Podbean right now and it actually pissed me off I have to yeah that it really made me angry because yeah you kind of you kind of don't want to deal with stuff like that because the plan they're asking me to upgrade to is basically three times as expensive as the current one and imagine if I
have to do it for both podcasts for each of my podcasts then that gets quite expensive doesn't it so considering there is another podcast that I am planning to start soon I don't know if I've mentioned it I think I did right yeah I'm planning to start a podcast about football because you know I love football and currently I teach four people from the Czech football sort of let's say industry right I teach three journalists and one manager one football manager from the Czech league
so he asked me not to name him so I would love to say his name because I think he's well known but I'm not gonna because he asked me not to do that you see you see how how much integrity I have now you have to you have to it's the right thing to do I think right so yeah it's it's it's a logical next step for me to start a new podcast so I'm already in the process of making my own logo which by the way you guys can help me vote on because I have I have given you the option
giving you the option to help me choose my logo which I have this time designed myself it's it's a placeholder logo it can be changed in the future if someone comes up with something better basically this time there will be my face there the podcast will be called the foot glitch podcast improve your english with football something like that right so the foot glitch podcast foot as in football glitch as in english you see very clever right yeah I came up with this actually
myself can you believe it I did ask ggpt to help me with some tag lines for the podcast something like the foot glitch podcast where football meets english stuff like that right so a few tag lines which I can use for my voiceover and I have been in communication with someone from the UK who will make a jingle for me because I don't want to I don't want to make an AI jingle I actually want to pay for my jingle this time because I want to do things properly you
see and we will see we will see guys it's the point is yeah just bringing all this back to the pod bean issues now I'm going to have three podcasts right I still have this podcast as well which yeah it doesn't have any patrons but it's all voluntary like patrons don't get anything extra right now so no wonder what I could do is I could come up with something but at the moment the best thing you can get from me is to become an achievers chamber member which you know everything
about because I've been promoting it on this podcast many times and you can find everything about how to become an achievers chamber member on my website teachersdenek.com but what to do now so I can never imagine I cannot imagine paying 100 dollars a month for three podcasts which would be what I what I have to do because this is the is the lower lowest tier plan that you have to go for when you're with pod bean it's just way too expensive for me so I've been looking for some
other options and it turns out that I'm in luck because actually it looks like there are some
there are some reasonable possibilities I can go for one of them is Captivate. Captivate offers basically for one under one account you can have three you can have as many podcasts as you want so that's exactly what I need so I started talking to Captivate which is this hosting platform right for every podcast needs one I used to be on Podomatic first then I went to audio boom and now I'm with Podbean so I started talking to Captivate and I send them an email and they communicate with me
via automized messages and AI so there's not an actual person talking to me which has put me off it has actually put me off and I got upset you might think Zenec don't you get upset too easily right shouldn't you calm down a bit shouldn't you take a chill pill yeah probably but you know what I mean when things make you angry I think the best reaction to it is just let off some steam you know just be authentic just experience our emotions right that's the way to do it so
yeah I basically realized that I don't want to work with Captivate because if this is how they want to talk to me via a robot then I might as well go for someone else by the way there's someone on their phone you're gonna hear them because they're quite loud so don't get scared it's happening that person has just ended their phone call fortunately so I can carry on recording this podcast it did sound scary because she was also angry why is everybody angry here these days
including myself something in the air right so it's not gonna be Captivate I found another one which is cheaper than Captivate and which seems reasonable and they actually talk to me as human beings yes they sent me an email can you believe it it's definitely an upgrade compared to Captivate so this podcasting host is rss.com which is great because now I will never forget I will never forget this RSS which I sometimes do which is the feed that you use
if you want to have your podcast so basically I will be I will use their service I will pay for their service which is much cheaper actually than what I would have to go for with this plan with Potbean that they are forcing me into this one will only cost 200 200 no 20 sorry 20 euros or 20 dollars monthly and I can have as many podcasts as I as I want to so that's that's perfect right so I can start my new football podcast the footglitch podcast and continue with
my zenex english podcast which is this podcast let's not confuse anyone here yeah if you are already confused about the number of podcasts I have you're not the only one I'm struggling myself and imagine if you also have to code switch if you have to record podcasts your your podcasts in different languages don't worry the the football podcast will not be in Vietnamese because I can't speak that language it will be in English so two podcasts in English one podcast in Czech
in case you're learning Czech wow so the only issue is so the biggest issue the biggest sort of let's say the the the biggest loss of all this is that I will lose all my patrons of the Czech podcast and it does take time to build up that sort of that sort of group of people who who support you and when you sort of restart it only the the most faithful ones and only those that listen to every single episode every single week will become patrons so I may have like five patrons
to start with right after I restarted with on rss.com and yeah so that that's that's annoying but it is what it is I'm gonna be using hero hero which is a Czech Czech um service for it's like a place where you can have your patrons basically right patreon.com is the most famous one I think so it's like imagine patreon.com but there is a Czech service like that so I'll be I'm gonna be using hero hero for that because that's what most content creators in the Czech Republic seem to
go for these days it's it's very popular here in my country so yeah I just have to get over the fact that I will make less money these days because of that uh let's say hiccup it's it's a little sort of bump in the road yeah but I'll get over it and we will continue as we used to so yeah about that English about that new English podcast Footglitch obviously I'm gonna ask you for your support um it will be about football as you could have guessed probably probably I will be talking
about the Premier League now the Euros the international football I think since I have three clients three students who are from the Czech football sort of industry I think it's it's it's logical that I will also speak about Czech football a little bit right from the point of view of a Czech fan but I'm planning it to make it international as well so I will be interviewing different football fans from different countries for the Euros so if you happen to be from countries
