Episode description

This episode is dedicated to Nurcan Baysal who is a Kurdish journalist and a human rights activist from Turkey.

Few months ago I taught her in an advanced class here in London. A week later I went to a panel discussion with her in Free Word in Farringdon. I had been invited to this event by my colleague Billie, an English teacher, who also features in this episode.

Essentially, the episode is a series of monologues and dialogues with Billie and also my cousin Honza who as we know knows a lot about history. We try to offer our view on censorship in Turkey, explain who the Kurds are, and try to break down what has been going on in Turkey.

I hope we managed to do justice to Nurcan's unrelenting effort and work. I don't normally do heavier topics like this on my podcast, but I think if approached in the right way, they can have a powerful effect on the audience and I am convinced this was the right thing to do.
