Intro and Jurassic World Hype

Yes, have some. Yes, have some. My name is Craig Goldberg. Thank you for being part of the Yes, Have Some podcast universe. As always, I'm here with my co-host. This is a big week for us, Jacob Walsh. We are mere... hours away from jurassic world rebirth it's coming we're gonna it's coming wednesday night this coming up wednesday if you're if you see this before it releases we are going to be

on youtube on yhs doing a full review uh we haven't seen it yet but we will see it and then we will review it jacob what is your hype level going into jurassic world this week First of all, can I just acknowledge the fact that you said the YHS universe, like all of a sudden Jason's universe is out and now you're trying to steal that. Yeah. YHS universe. It is a universe. It's a whole universe.

i'm excited i'm excited for jurassic park you know at first i thought it seemed really dumb and i was like oh these movies have been so bad for so long i kind of don't want to see anymore right um but but i've been pretty excited about everything like It looks much better than the last three. I have said that probably every episode of this podcast since the trailer came out. So I'm just, I'm just, I just want to have fun. I just hope it's like.

I just hope it's fun. So I took the day off work on Wednesday because we're not getting the midnight showings here in Valdosta. Okay. But like the first showing. The first showing of the day on Wednesday is like noon. Okay. So I bought a ticket to that. So I'm going to go right at noon on Wednesday, take the day off work, and then I can think about it and we'll podcast that afternoon.

sweet it's gonna be great yeah abigail how are you i'm doing great thanks for having me um i'm looking forward to the rebirth of jurassic world um and uh i think it's going to be a good like uh I don't know, like a full circle thing because we have talked about the Jurassic Park movies for quite some time on this channel. And I do love that original so very much. And I just recently finished reading it, the Michael Crichton book.

I'm definitely fully locked in. I really like Scarlett Johansson. And I like seeing that dinosaur with the big bulbous head. So I'm kind of looking forward to seeing it. And especially to reviewing it. The Dimitronex? What's it called? The D-Rex. Distortus. It's the easiest name to remember. Distortus. One of my favorite words in the English language. Distortus. Yeah. They're going to headline the family values tour.

To me it sounds like a name of a character from Mad Max. Distortus does sound like they'd be playing right in between Static X and Stained. I'm excited to see Distortus. Listen, I do like Scarlett Johansson as well. She's one of my favorite actresses. In fact, I treated myself to a nice little Sunday afternoon movie yesterday.

Random Movie Review: In Good Company

jake the way your eyes went you're like what is he well that was just a weird sentence so yeah i had to watch the movie i watched one of my um This is where the podcast starts going in different directions because I watched In Good Company, which is one of my all-time favorites. I've never heard of that. All right. In Good Company, 2004, Scarlett Johansson, Dennis Quaid, Toe for Grace. Sounds great. Can I say something? It kind of sucked.

Like I have great memories of loving this movie and it's really not very good. It's pretty mid. And also Jake, there's no way you would like this movie. I mean, maybe that's why I've never heard of it. I don't even know why I liked it in the first place. Topher Grace is not great either. Like there's nothing about, I think I used to really like Dennis Quaid. I don't know. Any in good company fans? It's about Dennis Quaid is a salesman.

who gets demoted and Topher Grace becomes his young hotshot boss. Wow, cool. And then he falls in love with Dennis Quaid's daughter, played by Scarlett Johansson. Yeah, it's about like dealing with being out aged in the tech company world or in the business world. So that definitely is not like something that either you or I really care about. But Craig, I understand.

You saw yourself in Topher Grace's shoes when you first saw the movie and probably now you feel more like Dennis Quaid. You just think, I mean, we can be honest. You just thought Scarlett Johansson was really hot in it. yeah that will make you like a movie even if that would make you like a movie she plays like the angsty kind of like daughter that's just like what are you doing in my house oh i feel so full of love with you

Nolan's Odyssey: Mythology & Knowledge Gap

I guess I'll fall in love with you. That's why Craig likes to watch it. I really need to talk about The Odyssey for a second. Okay, let's talk about The Odyssey. Christopher Nolan. Christopher Nolan's coming out with a version of the Odyssey. And I just thought it was so like, and I don't know if it's just because I have a long, like, I mean, we read the Odyssey in school and.

we watched there was like a 1997 i think made for tv movie of the odyssey that i remember watching right multiple times sure But your text was just so funny to me. You sent us this text because you sent a text where they were talking about some of the monsters in. the Odyssey as if you didn't know that there were monsters in the Odyssey and I just I just found it to be I was like I just found it to be so funny because I'm like

It's like the oldest tale known to man. First of all, let me... It's like being like, hey, Jacob, I know you like animals. Have you heard of this arc and this flood? That's weird. listen there's a movie called the lion king i think you guys would love it no um i read the odyssey and i read the iliad not I was supposed to. Guys, I cannot tell you how much I was kind of a slacker in high school. I didn't pay attention to anything. I could not.

If you would ask me three days ago if there's mythical creatures in the Odyssey, I would have been like, I don't know. Probably not. That doesn't seem like something that would have. Maybe I'm outing myself as a little bit of a dum-dum. I got smart when I was 27, 28. I swear to God, I did not care about any assigned readings or texts. Like I could, there's like one book ever that I really enjoyed, like in high school.

And it was of mice and men. I like that one. Because you identified. I knew you were going to fucking do that. I knew that was coming. I was like, oh, I'm like this one guy. I'm like this guy. Tell us about the farm. Craig's like oh I used to read this really cool book it was like it was about rabbits and you're like oh water shit down and Craig's like no it wasn't that one it's a bison man I really just like that rabbit part I love that rabbit part no I I just I

even when we watched clash of the titans like in school i was like boring let's watch billy madison you guys watched clash of the titans but you didn't watch the odyssey we might have watched the like don't get me wrong we might have watched it they're similar Right. They're very similar. Flash forward 20 some odd years. I am now.

a much more cultured person, a well-rounded individual. I enjoy the films of Christopher Nolan. Uh, and I think it's really interesting. Why are you laughing at me? Defend me. I mean, I know you are a smart cultured person, but using Christopher Nolan as your barometer of being a smart cultured person makes you sound like a... dumb not smart person yeah you're sitting in the jokerized car right now before you say that it's getting more jokerized uh

I think that I'm not going to be hard on you. I mean, I think that it's maybe a matter of like special interests, maybe not aligning for you when you learned about that stuff. Sure. I myself found Greek mythology to be like fascinating and like kind of wild and R-rated. And I liked how like graphic. You have tattoos of it. Yeah, I have Antigone from Sophocles' Oedipus trilogy, which, yeah, that's deep, deep family drama.

And I love it. And I remember because I was in a private Christian school and I was like, this is like where the real good drama is. This is so much better than the Bible. Guys, I watched a lot of wrestling back then. So did I. um i'm not trying to give you a hard time about it it's just it was just a funny text it was just a funny text that you were like well they're gonna have a cyclops in this and i'm like yeah it is like the the whole thing like

Yeah, I don't know. Well, listen, it is one of the most recognizable pieces of literature in human history. To most. Well, there's there's like I love how hung up you are. This is fun. I don't care. Hey, it's funny to me. It's fun. We're having fun. Yeah. From a filmmaking perspective, I think it's interesting because it seems like this would be a really hard thing to do as one movie to adapt it.

Adapting The Odyssey: Cast & Challenges

at the scale that you you kind of imagine christopher nolan probably will um i'm really excited to see the trailer i'm really excited to see what this looks like. The cast is really good. Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Elliot Page, Mia Goth. Lots of good names in there. I'm feeling weird about the cast, but other than that... Matt Damon's playing the lead.

Of Odysseus. Yeah. Okay. All right. Don't say it. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. No, no. I don't want to say I feel weird about the cast. I can. I'm just tired. I'm just tired of seeing movies with the same fucking cast over like every movie has the same cast. And it just it takes me out of the believability of a movie when it's like.

matt damon tom holland and zendaya in every fucking movie you know what i mean like to me i haven't seen a trailer so i can't speak to it yet but matt damon i think he's a great actor he does not like i feel like i'm not going to be able to look through that and see odysseus i'm gonna see the dude from dogma like with long hair you know i don't know man it's just i'm just like i'm tired of like

i don't know we'll see i'm i'm very excited for for uh the odyssey and i and i do i wish more of these like classic stories were getting um newer adaptations so yeah i'm gonna be into it but especially there's monsters in it so and there's monsters in it um and i heard and i heard their cyclops was practical

it was like something that there was something that came out a while back where they were talking about how they were he was talking about trying to use a practical you know stuff for the cyclops as much as they could abby any thoughts on the cast they really haven't named like who's playing who other than matt damon so no i'm not gonna when i think about it i like a lot of those names um i don't

I don't love Matt Damon and I can see where you're coming from Jacob with it's almost like you can't separate him from the other movies that he's done and because this is like an ancient story that is huge and has like influenced other storytelling throughout history and has just withstood the test of time and has characters that we know the sirens and the um cyclops and all that stuff like it's

It's definitely the kind of thing that it would be nice if they pulled like Broadway actors or like some new faces that are completely not associated with anything else. But I think I know I'm excited about this.

I remember The Odyssey. I'm pretty sure I read that in high school. I definitely read Mythology, which was the Edith Hamilton collection book. So yeah, I'm in it. I'm excited for it. I'd like to see some like... footage and uh yeah but i i think drawing from like ancient storytelling and history and greek mythology that's that's an area that i love to play around and i think there's a lot of depth um and a lot of high drama

Nolan's Directing Style and Pretentiousness

Before we, yeah, I agree. And before we move on from this, because I think this is part of it too. Christopher Nolan is kind of now. been cemented in our you know modern filmmaking times as like when nolan has a movie it's going to be a big deal it's going to be shot in imax it's going to make a lot of money he's going to be pretentious

Oh my, here we go. It's reached. Well, here's the thing. Where does the pretension come from? Is it really the films or smelling your own farts? That's where it comes from. fucking god is this i like that others should smell this i did not think you were gonna say that keep going I'm not stopping this topic no I don't know I just I've liked some of his movies but I rewatched like Interstellar recently and I just like it just makes me go like

come on like get over yourself dude and like not just him like it's like everybody in this movie almost i'm just like all right we're The thing that I hate about Christopher Nolan movies, but I also do love some of his movies, is that like every movie he makes, he makes it like you're supposed to. like you're supposed to have your mind blown by like it's supposed to be so good and so groundbreaking and pushing so many envelopes that you come out of it you know changed in it and it's like

making a movie that doesn't make sense doesn't mean it's amazing. Interstellar's not my favorite. I think he's got a little bit of pretentiousness to him. Is that a bad thing? Maybe not. Like sometimes it's a little eye rolly, but I don't know. I didn't watch. I want you to watch. What was the last? I want you to watch. Yeah, that was going to say. Hey.

I'll watch it. I will watch it on my own. You know what I'm excited about? This is the official reteaming of Chris Nolan and what I think is one of his greatest muses. Anne Hathaway. Where is she? There she is. From The Dark Knight. She was in her stellar. Oh. Yeah, that movie does kind of suck. Actually, fuck Christopher Nolan. No, I'm just kidding.

No, no, no, no. I like Chris Nolan. I think he's one of the partners on the movie theater Jason Reitman did by doing something with. Sure. Abby, final thoughts on this topic or should we fucking move on?

Alternative Odyssey Adaptation: O Brother

I think that you should watch a brother where art, though. I think it makes no sense that because I know you haven't seen. Have you ever seen that? I've never seen that. Oh, you I think you would love that. First of all, it's the Odyssey. Second of all, it's great. It's very funny. It's got good songs in it. You would like that. Yeah, it's like the Avett Brothers did Homer. Hey, you had me at Avett Brothers. Yeah. No, it's the Coen brothers. So many brothers involved. Speaking of brothers.

Florida Trip and Jaws Floats

Let me see what my segue is going to be here. Cause I said, speaking of brothers without anything next, you know, what are we talking about? Well, actually speaking of brothers, I saw my brother on the way to Florida last weekend where we had a couple of days of filming content. Shout out to Big Mouth Incorporated for supplying us with some Jaws swimming pool floats. Abigail, where are you on floats these days? I feel like...

We've never bought a float. Did you have fun with the shark? I love floats. Yeah. Growing up, I didn't. I love floats. I love floats and I love pools. Growing up, I didn't have like a pool in my backyard and we didn't have a membership to our neighborhood pool. So I was very envious of pool floats and things of that nature.

We did go to Whitewater a lot as a kid, but like you can't really bring floats in. They kind of have them there already. Right. So for me, being able to have something like that, it's just pure fun. Like it's just a big oversized version of something that you already like. And you can kind of like lean on it and float in the water. And it's very, very, it's just a, it's a fun opportunity to bring something that you also want, like one of your interests into the water with you.

And I personally had a blast like jumping in with the the shark float and just kind of like swirling around in that in the shark. That's kind of like the tent like situation. I had a lot of fun in that.

Jaws 50th Anniversary Floats Experience

Yeah. So this was their pool floats to celebrate JAWS 50th anniversary. We discovered this company and these floats at Toy Fair this year. We kind of made it our business. We're like, hey, please send us these floats.

film ourselves swimming with jaws floats no problem and we did it it was great i think we got in there and like they saw the joy on our faces they were like because we were sitting in the floor i know i went and sat in the float like on the floor on the show floor right we don't even need a pool

Jacob, that was fun. If you guys haven't seen the videos, they're on our Instagram and stuff. You took your full Quint... gear into the pool which was full full commitment i still have some funny videos and stuff that i need to post like well my favorite video i've seen so far is whenever

Whenever me and you, Craig, were filming the slow motion, like Quint playing with the shark, we were doing that in slow motion, but Abby was also filming it from somewhere else. And you posted that either in your stories or in a video. something and it's just so funny because it's not slow motion there's no music it's just me in the pool in the background like yay jumping around with a shark I love that video

That makes me so happy that you like it. Yeah, that was a lot of fun. I haven't been able to get my floats back in the boxes, though. i don't think they're really meant to go back in the box once you've yeah i know put your mouth on it it's like you know I'm thinking about just buying new ones and new ones in the box and then just blowing these up or something and just because I can't get them in the fucking box. I did like Jacob was like, all right, guys, let's be careful.

Because it's us and I'm not always knocking shit over. And Jake was like, we want to have fun here. Not too much fun. I just was like, I don't want to say this. I don't think I have to say this, but I'm going to say this.

be careful with these floats i was like okay well it's they're they're fragile and i didn't want them to get popped i was like one of us is gonna jump on a float and pop it and then it's gonna ruin the day i want them to do ghostbusters floats but i want them to consult us on what those should be i want absolutely i want a second series of chops oh yeah that's what uh yeah i want the kitner boy on a float it's like oh on a raft yeah um yeah ghostbusters would be cool yeah

Like to imagine the one that's, that is built almost like a tent with the shark. Imagine like Dana's apartment or something like that with like, or the Gozer temple. Yeah. Yeah. Gozer temple. There they go. Ooh. Then one of us has to get in, in a pool with our. proton packs i'll do oh yeah with our hasbro packs my has labs hey i'll just get hasbro on the phone send me a couple has lab some pool packs waterproof we need we need a pool pack

We need a couple of pool packs. Actually, they're missing out on a couple of merchandising opportunities. How awesome would a... proton like a plastic proton pack you bring in the pool and like you could just suck up water like come on like where's my super soaker proton pack yeah that's what i want to know um i don't know where i don't know where abby went but we'll we'll figure that out here in just a moment

Universal Studios Mega Movie Parade

Um, so Jacob, uh, we, uh, hello, we, you good. I just swiped the wrong direction. Happens every time. That's how people end up on really bad dates. Yeah. I just went with it. Just went with it. Oh, I've done that, by the way, on StreamYard, where you... you accidentally do the shortcut to hit the back button on your browser. It's when you put two fingers down and swipe. Right. Well, that sounds like a better date than I was talking about. We went to Universal Studios.

made a day of it hung out with uh trader brandon i think a lot of our listeners probably know him he's on instagram he's works at universal used to work at disney great guy designed uh the Trader Sam's, Tiki Bars at Disney, and really fun to hang out with somebody who's on the inside scene at Universal.

That's just a lot of great stories and anecdotes and kind of like it really kind of adds to the experience. But yeah. So thanks to him for a good hang. And I wanted to. I wanted to talk about our time at Universal because. We finally made it to the mega movie parade. Yep. Which they've been doing since last summer. Yep. And it was great. Was it not? It was awesome. Yeah. Yeah.

I haven't seen a parade in a long time. And so it was really nice. Especially a parade worth watching. Yeah. Legitimately. Yeah, we've got the Dragon Con parade. It's so hot. You know, all that. This was like a parade that was being put on just for the spectacle and for the onlookers' enjoyment and to celebrate.

Parade Highlights: Nostalgia & Floats

I think the original properties that started Universal Studios like Jaws and Ghostbusters and some of the news of Jurassic Park. So, yeah, I thoroughly enjoy. I love everything that goes into a parade and like the float making and the idea of just like, we're going to make this look like a smaller version of this really big thing. And it's like.

it's always impressive and exciting for me to see floats moving around. Um, and to see the Met going through like the areas in universal where it's like, just like the streets and of New York, um, the 1940s area, it was just really cool.

Yeah, I got my... wind in my sails and i want to shout out like the actors that were doing characters and kind of walking around as like brody or uh quint um or the mayor from jaws like they were really killing it they were really funny and like interact and engaging with the people that were like in the crowd um and yeah i i had a great time i got some good footage really happy with it yeah yeah and and for context they do this every day every day at two o'clock

as long as, you know, weather permitting. They have this... really great parade that celebrates like a lot of the nostalgic properties, part of the Universal Studios canon, Ghostbusters, Jaws, Jurassic. Jacob, we've been wanting to see this for a while. Would you, would you think? Yeah, it was cool.

You know, there's a couple properties in it that are like aimed more towards like younger audiences that I don't really even know what they are. But once you get past those, you get like Back to the Future, which is really cool.

um and then i can't remember like the exact order but there the ghostbuster stuff was really uh impressive and what was really cool was like it comes around where we were standing it's coming around a corner so you see the stay puffed head just coming around first before it like right yeah um and it's big It's very good. I'm going to get some video up. The floats are huge and they're like bigger than life size. You know, we didn't get to see the big T-Rex, which.

it not being there made the jurassic park float kind of lame because it's like very empty without the t-rex in it yeah um but The Jaws stuff was really cool. Like there's like an Amity marching band that comes around first.

and then uh you know there's the the huge shark with the barrels the orcas like broken and like that to me was the highlight of the whole thing very cool the jaw stuff and like they're playing the the fucking jaws score and the drummers are playing to the yeah it it was it was awesome the the it's such a fun parade to watch one thing i noticed this is pretty nerdy but i had to say it

Because each section of the parade has its own music. But there's also dancers. But there's a lot of bleed over. And I noticed all the remixes of the songs are the same BPM.

so the dancing's never off yeah and it goes right in like it's crazy because they have speakers all around the park and it's crazy because like you'll hear the back to the future music but it gets louder in whatever speaker they're getting closer to it kind of like you know it kind of like bleeds over and then also in between every song is like

the universal theme that plays before movies. Yeah. Like the back to the future music goes into the fanfare of universal studios, which then goes into ghostbusters or whatever. and it's like it was pretty cool yeah and it's fun because it's like the same they're all like remixed up sped up verses like power love who are you gonna call yeah and then it's into the and then jaws starts and it's like yeah it's awesome so it's awesome

It's what a parade should be. They should all be dedicated to films. Like I, I'm a big fan of Thanksgiving day, the Macy's parade. I watch it every year. I like to get up early. I like to tape it. But those floats are always for like green bean casserole or like Johnson and Johnson or something boring. Nobody wants green bean casserole. Nobody wants jolly green giant. So we have Lady Liberty.

We've got footage on our various channels of the different sections of the park. I did just put up this video the other day of just the Ghostbusters section. Check it out. This was, I guess, Sean Bishop's Ecto. They refurbished and then they've got the gunner seat. You got Phoebe. You've got these like slightly oversized mini puffs. Extra large mini puffs. Yeah, but the Phoebe has, she's got the shoes on like the special. Medium puffs. Yeah. I think.

I also thought the person playing Phoebe had a great expression of interest and curiosity, which definitely reflects the character. And then there's like this lady who got slimed and she's looking for Slimer. And then we'll just look at this. Like there's this big, and you guys have probably seen some of this before, but there's this, you know, Gozer temple with an awesome Gozer and some Ghostbusters and a giant Stay Puft. It's just fun.

yeah it's what like it's what i love about theme parks because listen there as i get older there's things i don't love about theme parks first of all so hot what are they doing there's people it's hot the lines the lines um also i've got a i think i've got some islands of adventure hot takes coming up but um anyways very very fun show uh and uh whoops are we there there we are Hi, everybody. Really, really cool. Now.

Anything else to say on the parade other than it was just a lot of fun and we recommend everybody go see it. It was great. And also a shout out and thank you to Brandon for being our guide because he showed us. First of all, we got a great spot that had some air conditioning blowing out on our legs. shade for the beginning and then we like once it passed us followed around through a cut through to see it from the other angle uh coming back around which i loved it's great for um and also

I wanted to say this. AJ is correct. They are all electric vehicles. They converted them all to electric, which is another fun tidbit. I think that.

Universal: Jaws Museum & Transformers

The reason I love Universal Studios proper is that even though it's evolved and a lot of the rides from our childhood are not there, it still is kind of that ride the movies. you know in all of the jaws pop-up was awesome right all the stuff for the original ride like that they're just doing for a very short period of time yeah that's i mean that was that was one of the whole reasons i

i kind of like made us go on this trip i was like hey we gotta go soon because i found out that jaws stuff wasn't going to be there for very long and uh you know you'd been seeing pictures of all the like 50th anniversary merchandise which a lot of that stuff was sold out already anyway, but, um,

They had Jaws stuff all over the park. There was the big shark when you come in. There was the Jaws ride photo op, which was really cool. There were people walking around in the skipper outfits. There was a Jaws pop-up. like eatery um i bought a 50th anniversary jaw sippy cup uh and then one of the store the store that is closest it's you it's a candy store

And it's right by where the shark hangs, where they still have anything. They kind of converted that entire shop into a museum to the Jaws ride. And I have seen nobody mention this. It played. They had the the original line, the you know, the the music from the line, if you were in the Jaws line where it was like Amity Radio and like interview.

brody or interview the mayor and they would be like the shark's caught you know all that kind of it's the stuff you would listen to in line but then they had props from the ride there were signs up from the ride inside they had the old map of the ride that like 3d map uh you know outfits uh just all kinds of stuff and i was like we i had no idea that was going to be there so yeah it was it was great i think i think next week is the end of it

I think it's awesome that they take out the old stuff and show it off like that, like the historical pieces instead of just like, you know, a blitz of new product. It's it's cool to have a space like that to go in. Like, I almost I wish that.

every single universal studios right we were talking about this with brandon i think like if like instead of ever getting you never get rid of them but like to keep them preserved and have like a little space that's like a museum so that you can when they're no longer running you can still learn about them yeah watch stuff

I'm getting so mad. I 100% agree. And there's no reason to not have a Jaws. Jaws is the greatest movie of all time. It doesn't, guess what? Harry Potter Land, they're already remaking Harry Potter. Like, this is ridiculous. Where's my Jaws ride? Well, you guys decided to ride the Transformers ride, which had like a 40 minute wait. And I said, no, thank you.

And I went back to the museum. I went back. And then I even kind of felt weird because when I walked in, someone who worked there said, welcome back. And I was like, oh. And I just like spent time listening to the Jaws stuff and hanging out.

in the museum a couple weeks ago Jacob we all got into a little argument on the show because Abby and I were like hey we heard the Transformers ride is good we should all go on it and you were like I'm not getting on that ride and we were like why are you being like that and you're like fuck transform like you were like you took a stand and to your credit you did not get on the transformers right i would have if it was a shorter wait right like like

something that i you know if it was like five minutes and we could just walk on it i would have got i would have gotten on it with you guys but like i i am not in the the mood or phase of my life where i'm gonna wait The better part of an hour to get on something I don't give a fuck about. Well, we did. It was probably like 25 minutes. It wasn't that bad. It was 25 air conditioned minutes that I enjoyed.

The line much more than the actual ride. The ride is not good. I don't remember who told us that, but it is out of all those type of like simulator. You're in a spinning, like, I think the comps would be like the Spider-Man ride or some of the Harry Potter rides or. Even like Star Tours or Back to the Future, this is bottom of the barrel. This is not a good one. We can be moved from screen to screen without any practical stuff except for a little splash of water.

and all the transformers designs from these new movies are new but well those movies it's just not good just bad i was about to say i don't know if they're new anymore right i feel like it you just kept coming up against the same like

monster like villain vehicle that's just like i'm here and i'm gonna toss you and then the next it's like i'm gonna toss you again and like that happens in every fucking thing so you get tossed a lot just get tossed they do a lot of tossing they do they toss you good um and i didn't like i said the ac was nice i liked that but being on the ride i literally had a moment of like complete boredom i was so bored and also it was too long

nothing is happening and i'm we're just sort of like moving in this like kind of dark warm space it's very boring like not every ride's great like i actually personally think the men in black ride really sucks but it's kind of kitschy and fun

Universal: Mummy Ride & Islands Adventure

because you're spinning around like you're in a big open. Sorry, I just knocked some stuff over. I like it because I can spin around in the car in a big space and see aliens. But we did the mummy and that's a great ride. One of the best rides. Love the mummy. Always. Oh, y'all made me ride by myself. Yeah, we went on the single rider's line queue for Mummy and Jake and I sat next to each other. You two got to ride together. Happy, go ahead!

Make friends with that person. Did you make a friend? No. I screamed, though. It is kind of weird to be like... I mean, it's not weird. It's vulnerable, though, to scream when you're sitting next to someone that you don't know. what's really funny is as soon as we got on the ride we're like sitting down and as soon as we started moving craig goes wait i don't i don't know if i actually like this ride and then i was like

And then I was like, yeah, I just remembered there's a lot of fire and it's really hot. But it is fun. I do love that ride. It is a good. I love that. Yeah, that ride rules. And it's always.

That ride has like the pacing that you want, in my opinion, because it's like you start out with a bang, a lot of fire, a launching, and like they have the practical effect of like the... statues coming up and like you know well to me i like how all the mummies speak perfect english on the ride it's like when you watch the movie he speaks a different language but on the ride it's like they can't do that so it's really funny to me it

the spirit of what universal yeah they go through the cast member training um to me the mommy retains the spirit of what makes a ride like et fun which is oh cool we're getting on a roller coaster based on the mummy with a young brendan frazier this movie came out 30 years ago yeah and it's and it's but it kind of like that's what i like i don't love new that like

The Skull Island King Kong is fun, but it's not better than the original. It's not. But that's another thing I like about the mummy ride is it feels like there's... That is, that is the Kong ride. That building is the old Kong ride. So just. walking into it feels nice you know what i mean just being on a ride in that building feels yeah and that's like also near in the new york area of the park and it's near where the you know yeah

It's all good. All good. So we had a lot of fun. We did scoot over to islands of adventure and really didn't do anything because we were just going to go on the Jurassic park river adventure. And the line was really long and it was already.

getting to that point where we were like ready to call it it was the afternoon yeah we were kind of like let's do dress parks and get out of here we've never had a problem with a long line for jurassic park it's always a short wait and uh This day was actually like the park was pretty light as far as people like a lot of stuff was, you know, pretty easy to just walk on.

But it was so hot by the end of the day, like record-breakingly hot, that I think everybody was like, we need water. Let's get on the Jurassic Park ride. So it was too long for our... are liking so yeah yeah and i i just don't i'm so excited to go to epic universe i just islands of adventure has lost most of its appeal besides the jurassic park ride i don't well Jurassic Park and Kong are it and like Kong is even and I like I do have fun on the Kong ride

But it's kind of the same thing where like if the lines over 30 minutes, I don't want to. It's not that important to me, you know, like but the Jurassic Park area is great. And as long as it doesn't. change it will always be great they kind of up they kind of upgraded the store and the store was really cool and there was new stuff in there um and i was happy to see all of that you know the big store when you come out of the ride but

But other than that, that's the only thing. I don't really care about the Harry Potter stuff. Right. We took the little train and we said, let's get the fuck out of here. Let's get out of here.

Universal: Dated Areas & Future Visits

Yeah, it definitely is. The anchors aren't quite as strong of anchors, I think, as they maybe used to feel, not quite as fresh. I just think they need to... No, go for it. I was just saying the comic book area needs a revamp. It's very, it's like walking through, I'm going to go ahead and shout them out. Dave's comics kind of like, it's almost like it's all sunstained. No one knows what the prices are. Nobody's buying anything.

um same with right before you get into that you're in like the classic comic section with like kathy and ogopogo and shit and it's yeah and i think like that needs to go away like that needs to go i don't i don't even give a fuck what they put there but i don't know fuck about kathy anymore that needs to go nobody's having fun in that area like no kids like mom take us to

and it's always comics i've never heard of like otis and the dime like what are so just i don't know like what is it we love hallmark cards we'd love to go to the part of the park they don't even have family circus like at least keep Give me something I can get behind. It's weird. That's it's weird. Even in like, when did islands of adventure open 94? It's even weird that that stuff was.

right thing in 94 don't get me wrong the marvel stuff is cool i still think the spider-man ride's fun we just didn't do it spider-man's great the hulk is great we just kind of you know we were just ready to go um Well, we'll make it back down for Epic Universe maybe later this year, and obviously we're going to go to Halloween Horror Nights and all of that. There's a Jason house, the Jason Universe this year. Pretty cool stuff.

Pizza Hut Classic Experience

So we'll be covering that stuff later in the year. One last thing I wanted to touch on on our trip down to Florida is Abby and I were treated to our first trip to the Pizza Hut Classic. Oh, I forgot about that. And Jacob had been there a couple times. If you guys don't know what a Pizza Hut classic is, think about what you want it to be, and it's basically that. It's an untouched, unchanged Pizza Hut.

Yeah, like everything's untouched. The building is still the old building. They still have the Pizza Hut chandeliers, the red cups, the salad bar, the menu is the same, the personal pan pizzas.

book it stuff on the wall like it is a vintage pizza hut and there's not a ton of them um i don't i don't know how many there are and i tried to look it up before and the information that i found was that they don't exactly advertise them like there's i could not find i don't know if it exists but i could not find like an official list of where they were what i found was i found a blog post where somebody was like

yeah yeah yeah he he has a list on here of like where you can find them only from people sending in and i don't even know if the one The one near my mom's is on this list. The first time I went and visited my mom, she lives like five miles from one. Wait, that's it right there. The Homosassa one is on there. That's the only one in Florida.

Is that the only one? According to this. Hell yeah. Wait, Clayton? There's one in Georgia. Yeah, but that's not Clayton. We also don't know. Yeah, because I looked up like how many. I searched how many Pizza Hut dine-in restaurants are left. And it was like 6,000. But I was like, that's no way. That's different. No, that's different than classic. There's a couple in Georgia. And at one point we were on a road trip. And I remember being like.

well we're gonna be like half an hour within one but it wasn't on the way and but that was before my mom moved and but yeah i visit i visit the pizza every time i go see my mom we um We're the only people in there eating. But the service was awesome. The service was great. I had a great time. Me too. I respected the hell out of the server that was working because she seemed to like...

kind of enjoy the fact that this was a rare location and like that we were all there sort of enjoying all the little things about it, like the time travel aspects. It was great. yeah she was awesome anyone who like really respects where they're working and you can kind of see it i'm like fuck yeah i'm thinking about signing up for book it and reading the odyssey you should

I literally remember like forcing, you know, your parents had to like sign your book at certificate. My mom was like, did you really read this book? I'm like, mom, just sign it. Okay. I want a free personal campaign. So let's not get into the, let's not get into the details of this whole thing. All right. All of a sudden, Marge is really concerned about the details. Come on. Sign it. Sign the fucking thing. Yeah, we had fun.

at pizza huts and it's been a long time since i've been able to sit down in one it's been a long time since i've been able to enjoy a salad buffet uh so i'm really i was really just yeah i like making my own little thing and sitting down and literally it's like a it's a it's a time warp when you step in there you're back i had a pizza birthday party when i was maybe third grade something like that um let's have another one at that classic

let's make people drive all the way down to the pizza classic no no no no why just why just 10th anniversary party should we rent it out yeah yeah you think people are gonna drive all the way to homosassa florida No, it'll be great. We'll invite everybody, but we'll be the only ones. Yeah. I like it there. Everyone else should, too. Yeah. Go swimming. Take you over to mom's house. Maybe not. So...

A week after G-Fest. Listen, I get excited about Comic-Con every year. I'm very excited about this year. I just feel like it's been a weird year as far as like the toy industry goes.

I love that all of our friends are going to be there. Ryan Dole is going to be there. Mondo Hasbro. We've got the toy tubers unite show. We're going to be plugging that a lot tomorrow night on toy anxiety, but there's a live show with a bunch of toy tubers Friday night, us, Dan Larson, geek dad life.

Mad Hatter, just a ton of people coming together for like a live show, an event Friday night. I'll put the link in the chat and on the description so everybody can get their tickets. But Abby, I'm excited about Comic-Con this year. We got fantastic four coming out that week. It just feels like there's going to be a good vibe. Yeah. I don't doubt that there will be. It's always, it's kind of like the, like, I don't know. Like the.

the getaway camp for us all, us influencers to all see each other at. We're all doing different activities all day. And then at night we get to hang out. And I'm really excited for that. I'm excited to see some of the panel like scheduling releases and kind of plan out what I want to hit and do.

Yeah, I'm really excited that there's going to be a place for us all to be at at Jay's party for the Toy Tubers Unite thing. There's going to be bowling too. What was that? It's going to be what? Bowling.

Okay. Yeah. Well, I tried to get you to go bowling yesterday so we could get our, you know, she goes, Hey, do you want to do a fun activity today? I was like, okay. She's like, no we didn't go we went out to we had a really nice like late lunch at a restaurant hateville we don't we normally are you know like door dashing and picking like we like let's get put on normal human clothes and go eat lunch and it was great

We had a good time. You know what I'm excited about? What's that? Breakfast Republic. Let me get them shrimp and grits. yeah that place is awesome i like san diego a lot um the thing is i feel like i feel like last year we left on sunday we missed like a whole extra day at comic-con we're doing the full thing this time and also like

We're coming home so fucking late. We are coming home late. That's a bonus day in San Diego. We're not going to go to SeaWorld. Let's go to the beach. I told Abby I want to take her to the... the beach we're not gonna go to sea hey you want sea world go to the fucking beach i hope actually if i see it who am i yelling at it's fun i don't know it's weird it's getting weird um

I'm really excited. And I, I'm excited about the Mondo booth and like exclusives. And, and I don't know if like Mattel is going to reveal like their DC stuff. I don't, I don't know. I'm just excited. I'm just getting giddy.

Stephen King's The Stand: Book & Podcast

So yeah, that's, that's all happening. Hey, we're almost at an hour before we wrap this up, Jacob, you told me that you had a story that you wanted to tell. Do we want to tell the story? You know, I did, but it was the stuff that I was telling you guys that happened at work this morning. But then I was thinking about it, and I was like, oh, that might not be something to talk about on the show. Yeah, maybe possibly upsetting. Yeah, maybe we'll do it on it.

maybe we'll do it on a patreon episode okay okay because it does involve some weird things right but maybe yeah maybe maybe let's save that for a um for patreon tomorrow after uh yeah after are we doing a patreon show tomorrow after uh we are yeah okay we'll talk we'll do we'll tell it on there let's bring our secret stories tomorrow yeah i have i can't i have lots of secrets

right now i have been lit though i did want to tell you guys um uh craig i know you're always like looking for your next book to read you're like really getting into reading a lot these days i think you should read the stand have you read the stand me i know abby has yeah no i've not read the stand um the i've been you know so the losers club uh they're doing so like they did when i read the stand uh years ago

the thing that i do with every stephen king book when i read it for the first time is i then go listen to the losers clubs episodes about it okay and for context that's a stephen king podcast it's a stephen king podcast yeah and like so for the stand

there was so much like content to consume because like, I read the stand, which is first of all, the biggest book in the world. And then I, watched the original miniseries which i had seen before but i re-watched it and then i had to go to the losers club and listen to their i don't know six episodes that they did over the book all like three hours long. And then there are three episodes they did over the miniseries. And then I had to watch the newer miniseries that came out in 2020.

And then listen to the losers clubs episodes on. You consumed all the content. It was a ton, but they now have reread the stand. And they there's like a lot of losers in the losers club and they kind of like filter out, you know, depending on what they read. So they have another.

panel of people it's been a long time since they did their stand episodes but they have new stand episodes they have like three new episodes coming out this you're answering the the age here's a little behind the scenes information How many times have you had this conversation on the podcast where I'm like, talk about like, well, let's talk about this topic. And Jacob goes, well, we've already talked about that. Like, you think people fucking care? We want to hear the same thing.

broken down, digested and chopped up 50 fucking times. Yeah. That's why next week we're going to do our favorite moments of frozen empire. And I'm just kidding. Keep going. No, I'm just saying like they put out a new episode about the stand and I've been listening to.

it today it's three hours long and uh it's got me excited it's got me like wanting to read the stand again or at least go back and maybe watch the miniseries again or something because it's just i don't know it's just a fucking cool book and so A couple things on that. First of all, I just looked it up. The stand is like three times longer than Homer's Odyssey, which crazy. She thought the Odyssey was long. Yeah.

New Stand Movie Adaptation & Casting

We didn't talk about this on the podcast. Maybe we should. Doug Liman has been tapped to direct a new adaptation of The Stand. Now, Doug Liman directed... the roadhouse reboot which was fun but it's fun doesn't translate to the state my i i have a lot of problems with this news okay um first of all like

i don't what i did look and see what else that guy directed and he didn't there wasn't i don't think they were like bad movies or anything but there wasn't anything that made me think like oh yeah that's the guy who should make the stand into a movie for the first time but also the fact that the stand is a huge book and they've already said nope this is one movie this is not two part this is one movie and that doesn't make

any kind of sense let me i just don't understand how you can do that here's what i like about doug lyman okay i'm looking at his uh imdb here edge of tomorrow Roadhouse, Born Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Swingers. I've never seen Swingers. I've seen Edge of Tomorrow and it's fine. but like do any like do any of those movies get you excited about the fact that this guy is going to make the stand here's what gets me to place in vegas and a large portion of the stand takes place in vegas sure okay

Here's what I'm saying. Looking at Edge of Tomorrow Roadhouse, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, I'm seeing a trend here. Tom Cruise, Jake Gyllenhaal, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt. This guy gets the A-list talent. Who's playing the walking dude? Is it Brad Pitt? Could be. Who's playing? Who's the lead? Who's playing the guy from Sonic? Stu Redman? Could it be a Tom Cruise? The guy from Sonic?

isn't he oh he played him in the show yeah yeah yeah i'm using my limited stand yeah remember in the stand tv series when sonic the hedgehog plays stew redmond that's why i got to vegas so fast um i'm so sorry is there any like who do you guys ever if you're doing some fan casting i know we're on the spot here but is there anybody that comes to mind for some of those key characters

No, it's hard for me to think about because I've seen them all played by two. You know, it's been adapted twice already. One time it was adapted, you know, five years ago. No, but like Randall Flagg is such a... you know, important character to Stephen King. And he's like the fucking main villain of the whole thing. And that's, that's a. I don't know. That's not a role you cast lightly. I don't know. The fucking Dark Tower movie was so bad. That's another thing.

You know, they tried to put all of Dark Tower into one movie, and Matthew McConaughey plays Randall Flagg in it, and he's fucking trash. It's so bad. Yeah, dude. It's like, unless... Go ahead, you go ahead. I'm sorry. I've been looking at the Wikipedia. It's like you, this director, whose name I'm forgetting now, who did. And like, if they can do passages of time.

and time lapses and like journey and journeying and traveling in like a good way in like a uh like a montage way that makes you feel it but it's really fucking hard because you've got like long journeying intercontinental like in i mean at the most the movie's three hours if it's long you know what i mean if it's a long movie it's three hours i mean if you read the stand

the fucking disease doesn't happen in the first three hours of the book you know what i mean i i think i think what they're going to end up doing i think the movie would have to start after it's it's already happened like after the uh the the the whole uh pandemic part of the book the movie would have to start after everyone's already dead and already on their journeys to

mother abigail or randall flag because otherwise like that's the only part you can get rid of it's like what else do you get rid of in the stand i mean i know there's a lot of little things and i know a lot of characters would probably get cut but I just do not see. I mean, Stephen King couldn't even. When they originally released The Stand, it was a smaller book because the publisher said, this is too big of a book. So they cut out like 600 pages.

But then in the early 90s, they released it. They realized Stephen King was maybe going to be a big writer. Is Mike Flanagan going to do the stand as a show? No, Mike Flanagan's doing, no, he's doing Dark Tower. He's doing Dark Tower, too. Okay, he's doing Dark Tower. That's what it is. Okay, I'm going to throw out some names for Stu Redman. You guys give me yays or nays. Ready?

Jake Gyllenhaal. Maybe. I could see Jake Gyllenhaal. That's not an awful... Here's a guy who's got a little bit of heat lately. Didn't even see it coming. Joshua Jackson. is that the who is that i don't wait joshua jackson like uh pacey from friends yeah no i don't think so uh pedro he could be larry underwood i don't want pedro in this movie at all

I'm Pedro'd out. Can I tell you who I actually, there's one person that I thought of that I would like to see as one of my favorite characters. Yeah. I'd like to see Sally Hawkins from The Shape of Water as Nadine Cross. Is Nadine? I think that'd be cool. She's got that like timeless, ageless beauty. I think she's my favorite actress. Person in the world. She's great. Okay. Austin Butler as Randall Flagg. No. Okay.

god no dude no randall flag is like a jokester like the like cosmic trickster you can't have fucking tom cruise's randall flag no he's not menacing that would be i think he could be i bet you don't think tom the guys freaking people on the high seas whatever i don't know no slander i love you tommy tommy see he's listening he's

Tom Cruise is the only person who I think probably listens to every single podcast in the world. Yeah, he has. Because he uses his witchcraft. It is like, I think there's multiple. I think Tom Cruise is probably like a thousand of them. He's kind of got like a Snoke Palpatine thing going on. All right, I got one. Here's an offbeat one. Trick Scientology. Okay. For Randall Flagg. Ready for this?

Trey Parker. No, I'm just kidding. I mean, I mean, I would love if Mike Flanagan was doing it and I would be. okay with like the mike flanagan universe actors all filling in the roles because they're all amazing josh holloway who is that sawyer from law You said that just as you just wanted to see me make that face. I love it. Well, it'll be fun. It'll be fun. Let's face it.

playing franny it's gonna be glenn powell austin butler glenn powell put him in everything put him in all of them um it's probably gonna be matt damon and fucking ben ass and all these dumb actors. I like Jake Gyllenhaal a lot, by the way. I like him, too. I think he's a good actor. I think he's really good. His sister was in The Dark Knight.

She was. I'm just giving factual information. Should we end this goddamn show? We should, yeah. Hey, this was fun though. We covered a lot of ground. We thank you guys for being here. Mitchell Brinkley says Austin Butler could be the singer. Yeah, Larry Underwood. Who's Larry Underwood? Austin Butler looks like he could really fuck up his singing career. He already did as Elvis, so that's probably why.

Well, listen, the Carrie show that Mike Flanagan's producing just started filming. We know that Mike Flanagan's also working on The Exorcist. There's really cool stuff. there's cool stuff happening in the world of horror they when it comes to the stand of the dark tower those are such like magnum opus b yeah winding stories i really don't know how you do something like the stand in one movie why would you like why would you even want it like right why would you want to say okay stephen king

I can do it in one movie. You know what I mean? Like if Stephen King, if it took him, I don't know, man. Like, you know, if you, if you read Stephen King talking about the stand. When he originally conceived of it, his whole idea was that he wanted it to be like a dark horror American version of Lord of the Rings. Would you put Lord of the Rings in one movie?

no no so why would you do it to the stand it just seems like a bad idea it just seems like an idea to be like it seems like whatever studio said like green lit that was like yeah we're okay throwing all of this money in the trash.
