Princess Fiera is an uneasy guest in Stonemount, avoiding the question of whether she will marry Maddix. She plays a dangerous game of fending off the enemy. Maddix considers her a danger, and wants both to drive her away and to win her support. Taran and Bard grow closer, even as the distrust of the villagers grows.
