Taran, Bard and Ivy flee to the border. Maddix and his men race after them, trying to cut them off. Separated from Bard who is a wolf by day, Taran and Ivy make friends with a band of merchants. Then they see Maddix and his henchmen have reached the border ahead of them, and are waiting for them to try to cross.
