Episode description

Interested in what goes into every effective customized exercise program?

Almost any type and amount of exercise is good for older adults compared to doing nothing. Just meeting the minimum guidelines for cardiovascular, resistance, and flexibility exercise can improve their health, fitness, and functional abilities while helping to protect against chronic diseases and functional decline. However, the difficulty in creating “universal” guidelines and recommendations for older adults is that this population is extremely diverse and the recommendations focus more on health-related outcomes rather than functional abilities. Because of the diversity within the older adult population, it is imperative that an individually-tailored approach be adopted in exercise programs.
