Get some facts and come back and Seebee. Get some facts and come back and Seebee. Don't throw out salaries or other things. Get some facts and come back and Seebee. You can't handle the true I told our players you need a bit more like a dog. We don't need a bunch of cats in here. Looking in the mirror, I look good. I got my extra bands on, I got my other shoes. Be a doll. We don't need no mouns. We don't need no cats. We need more dogs. Why not at the turn? Why you're not at the day? We
weren't good. There's no sense of asking me things about the game. I'm telling you we laid an egg. So I'm not gonna break it down for you. He sucks. He sucked. He laid an egg. That's all I have to say. Guys, I'm sorry. I'm not gonna break it down for you. Nothing went well for us. It's on us. We have to figure it out, and we went. It is showtime for the final hour of Extus and Bros. Bottom of the hour, we will visit with John Paul morosei MLB dot Com and Fox. He will join us to
talk about the MLB All Star Game. From last night, Trek Schoubl's trade positibilities, the Tigers first half of the season, and what we can expect the rest of the way for Major League baseball. That has been a very entertaining first half. What's been what's been the when we get to the poll question here in a minute, what's been the most entertaining part in your mind or the most surprising part in Major League baseball so far this season? There's
a few storylines. Yeah, that's a good question. I mean, I think we kind of saw one of them last night with Paul Skeens. This this explosion of young talent's been pretty fun to watch. It has been. Yeah, that's a good one for me. The biggest surprise in a positive way has been Cleveland. The finished ten games under five hundred, and they have a guy who has never managed before in steven vote. They have fifty eight wins, tied for the most in the American League and second most in
all of baseball. It's not that they're winning the division. It's the fifty eight wins, I think more than anything else. And quite honestly, the other two teams that have fifty eight wins Baltimore, New York Cleveland's got a better winning percentage because they have fewer losses. Fifty eight and thirty seven is Cleveland, right? So and that from a positive standpoint, it is just
that from a negative standpoint, I would say one of two things. Either the Toronto Blue Jays, who are eight games underwater and have the worst run differential in the American League East, or the Chicago Cubs, who I expected much more from. I'd probably side with Toronto. And here's the reason why. When you see the talent that they possess, whether be Guerrero junior, or Bishett, or Springer or Varshaw whatever. Okay, they've got a lot
of it. I know they lack some pitching, but they've got a lot of it. It's not just the fact that they are last in the division fourteen games out, eight games under five hundred, and have fewer wins than teams like the Tigers and Rays and I almost said Angels close to it. It's the fact that they're considering, or there is speculation anyway, of selling off two of their young stars who they have not signed to contract extensions yet,
in Bashett and Guerrero. Those would be the two for me. Cleveland's rise Toronto's fall. Now, that may be easy, and that may be convenient for a lot of people. I do like Trent's answer of Paul Schimes. How about locally, what's been the positive for Detroit? What has been the negative for Detroit? Obvious positive a schoobl I also think watching Cole Keith at least offensively come along a little bit, that's been fun. The negative,
obviously is Torklsen. But I mean we talked a couple of weeks ago, Shepp. This is the first time the Tigers have had two All Stars voted in. You know that's been a positive. Yeah, the first time since they had Michael fulmer Go there as one of two. Justin Upton, justin Upton. Right, Look, I think Schooble's the obvious answer. I'm not going to say it's wrong because he's a cy Young Award front runner. I don't think he's just a candidate. I think he's a front runner.
I'm not going to try and convince you that I expected him to be ten and three, leading the league with an ERA of two point four to one. But remember this, in fifteen starts last year he went seven and three. He struck out one hundred and two guys in eighty innings. If you believe that there is a progression for talented players like Derek Schouble, this is
not that outlandish. I like what you said about cold Keith. The fact it's not just his progress, the fact that the Tigers took him north from Lakeland in spring training and gave him him a chance to fight through the harsh, difficult times that everybody knew he was going to experience. Him responding the way he did that to me is the positive for me. That's the biggest positive of this pre all star stint for the Tigers. I like what col
Keith has done, no doubt. Who wouldn't look at how well he has played offensively over the last month. It's almost justifiable. He shouldn't be writing home for a two point fifty three batting average and nine home runs. But remember it was a massive, massive struggle for him to start. He didn't hang his head, he didn't pout, and they didn't need jerk reaction like
many fans do and say send him down and bring somebody back up. They stayed the course with him, they helped him, and he is rewarding them for that. Trust. The negative You're right, without a doubt, it's Spencer Torkelsen. Without a doubt, him being as productive as he was a year ago in the middle of this lineup would change things dramatically. I'm not
going to blame him for the tigers certain woes. Okay, I'm not going to tell you that the reason they're three games under five hundred and the reason they're twelve games back of Cleveland is because of Spencer torkels It goes deeper than that. You know that I've said that, But him in the middle of the lineup after having thirty one bombs in ninety four stakes a year ago, if he was on a close pace to that, and I don't think it's too much to expect if he was on that type of pace this year,
this team would be in a much different spot. I don't know if they would have caught Kansas City by now. I can't say that they would have been in second place of against replacing Minnesota by now. I just know they would be much better than they are right now. Because it's a desperate it's a really difficult thing for this team to produce the type of power it needs without the true power hitter and he was supposed to be that guy, right, And we don't want to overstate this. We don't like you said.
It's not like the Tigers would be in first place if Spencer Torkelsen was playing as well as he did last season, but maybe they'd be three games above five hundred instead of three under. Yeah, I think that's fair six game swing. Yeah, I think there are guys there. Look, there are other guys who've disappointed me just as much, but I wasn't expecting a whole
lot from them. I had high expectations for Spencer Torkleson. Part of the reason in the off season I expected right to win the division, and yes, I know I'm wrong. Part of the reason was because I thought Spencer Torkelsen would be able to at least have an encore performance of what he did a year ago. We'll talk to John Palmerrosi of MLB dot Com about that and other things at the bottom of the hour. There is some interesting NFL

You've got the marble whole thing going on right. Myer's got you covered. Head to Meyer and keep on grilling. They'll tell you that firsthand back with you on Exes and Bros. Bottom of the hour, it'll be Paul John Paul Morosi. He will join us and we will talk about the All
Star Game from last night. We will talk primarily about Tom Verducci's indication that Baltimore in LA want to go all in on Tarrek Scouoble or are putting together strong packages for him. So we'll get John Paul Morosi's thoughts on that perhaps his biggest first half surprises and disappointments, and see how it matches up with us. I found this very interesting. We'll get to it here in a moment about it. A player demanding a trade and a possible destination. I
don't see it happening, but somebody did write about this. First and foremost, let's get to our poll question. We asked you yesterday, what part of ESPN's quarterback rankings do you disagree with? That's the keyword, disagree with more. Now, remember they rated him rightfully, so Patrick Mahomes number one, Joe Burrow number two. Then you had Josh Allen at number three, and Lamar Jackson four, Matthew Stafford at five. Jared Goff came in at
number nine. So we asked you, what do you disagree with more Stafford rank fifth, gofrank ninth or other because a guy like Jalen Hurts was not in the top ten. So what are the final results there? Trent pretty tight. Stafford at number five got fifty percent of the vote, Goff at number nine got forty four percent of the vote, and other with the remaining six percent, I would have fellen other by the way shep Aaron Rodgers at eight was my biggest issue. But what do you think of the results?
Little surprising, I thought people, especially because of how they have gravitated towards Jared Goff throughout the state. You hear it all the time, players bring it up all the time. I figured they would have had a problem with him at nine and probably should have been higher to your point, like Aaron Rodgers being at eight. Maybe leap frogging a guy like Aaron Rodgers. But I'm glad people participated our pole question today, should Tiger Woods retire? Yes
or no? You can vote as often as you like. All you got to do is follow us on Facebook. It's exes and bros. Follow us on Twitter or x xb mornings and vote as often as you want. Again, at the bottom of the hour, we will pick it up with our friend John Paul Morosi. He will join us and we will get his thoughts
on a number of different things regarding baseball in general. All right, very interesting yesterday, where as rookies report to camp and some rookies already have, as rookies report to camp and veterans are getting ready to do just that, the report comes out that the outstanding wide receiver for the San Francisco forty nine Ers, Brandon Ayuk, has demanded a trade. Now, he's not the first San Francisco forty nine er to do this. There have been others and
they have settled things with their team. So, for example, a guy like Deebo Samuel, remember he wanted to be traded and they took care of him. There are others. We don't have to go through all of them. Auk wants, well, you know what he's done. He's seen the extended deals. He and his agent have seen the extended contract and expensive contract for guys like Justin Jefferson, AJ Brown, Aman Ross, Saint Brown, Jalen Waddle, Davonte Smith, Nico Collins, all of them halfte new extensions.
He wants some of that. And after having the year he had last year seventy five rocks over thirteen hundred yards, seven touchdowns, you can understand why he's a little antsy. He'll make fourteen million dollars a little bit more than fourteen million dollars this year. The projected market value for him, according to sports Track is twenty six and a half million, So he's a little
frustrated. How he's gone about it. I don't necessarily like so. For example, there was a shared video of him watching Commander's film via social media, so that leads to speculation. Right not cool. Doesn't seem like they're handling it the right way. San Francisco, remember in the draft, what did they do on their first round pick? They took Ricky pearsall the white
out from Florida. Just in case. John Lynch, the general manager, also extended the contract of Juwan Jennings in the offseason, perhaps just in case. There is an article out from Sporting News that says the likely landing spots the five best fits if I gets traded are as follows Pittsburgh. They've got around fifteen million in salary cap space, so the money could work out. Indianapolis, the Colts have Michael Pittman extended for Anthony Richardson. There's a lot
of questions beyond that. The LA Chargers, how about that trying to figure out how to replace a lot of production lost via the wide receiver position in the offseason. Now they may go a little bit more run heavy under Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman, but Justin Herbert at some point is going to want to sling it a little bit and he'll probably get his way. New England,
according to The Sporting News, is a possible landing spot. They have the league's most cap space, more than forty million dollars, and of course they've got a new first round rookie quarterback by the name of Drake May Washington Commanders. So there's the fifteen. The Washington Commanders, Terry McLoughlin, really good player. Jaden Daniels is the guy that Braden Brandon Ayuk has mentioned in those social media posts. And the Commanders do have thirty seven million dollars in
cap space. It helps to have a rookie quarterback on a rookie contract. Patriots have itt Colets have it, Washington has it. So that's the possibility. The interesting thing is one more was brought up, and that is the Detroit Lions probably not going to happen. And they say, but one can dream a little bit. Would you dream of such a scenario knowing full well that it would damage the salary cap hit on your team quite a bit.
You've already got one highly paid receiver, You've got the highest paid offensive tackle in football. You've got a guy who makes a pretty halfty price as the center, and we all know that Jared Goff is among the highest paid quarterbacks in the history of the sport. Only Joe Burrow per season makes more money than Jared Goff. You also have to take into account the guys you're going to have to re up eventually, Aiden Hutchinson. Primarily, it doesn't fit.
I know it's a big name. I know you feel like they need another receiver. The money needs to be spent elsewhere. Doesn't this almost feel like a Jamison Williams question. Absolutely, And that might be the biggest question mark going into the Lions season. I know people will look at the secondary. We can talk more about this later in the week, but I think
Jamison Williams is probably the biggest question mark for the Lions. You don't make a move like Brandon Ayuk when you've got a guy like Jamison Williams who you hope is ready to bust out. When we come back, we'll bust it with John Paul Morosi, MLB dot Com and Fox. He will talk baseball with us at a thirty five Here on Exies and Brokes, get so many

Exes and Bros. Glad to have you, my friend. Thanks to the time when I know you're busy, and we appreciate it very much. Hell of an All Star game last night. Awful uniforms but in the state of Texas and the players really delivered. It was a fun watch don't you think it was? Yeah, and thanks for the very kind of introduction. All the respects right back to you, my friend. Thanks for everything over the years and all the amazing guidance you've given me and your friendship that means the
world number one first and foremost so. But yeah, the All Star Game last night, I was pretty impressed actually by the way the game unfolded. You're right, I would prefer to see the old English d on the field as opposed to the Jerseys as we saw them last night. But be that as it may. The big moments, Oh Tani Howard, we got to see judge versus Skenes Jared Duran. What an amazing performance for him and someone who I think has really inspired a lot of people by talking about his journey
with mental health as well. For him to be the MVP very fitting in a beautiful moment for him and his family. So this is I think overall, Chef, a great midsommer classic and a very beautiful way to begin the second half of the season. Yeah, Paul Skeens was amazing. I really was hoping, I think, like a lot of Tigers fans, that Terrek Skubel was going to start the game. But look he comes in second.
He really impresses. I don't want to say it's he should have been, you know where he is right now because he had a good, strong finish a year ago. But what's impressed you most about Erk Skoobel and his maturation this year? Wow, Chef. I mean, he basically has, in my estimation, as good of a collection of pitches on the left side as we have seen in a very very long time. It is it is like
a peak David Price. You want to say, Cec Sabathia, And again we got to see Cherik do it for longer before we put him in the category of what David has done and Cec has done, and certainly Kershaw's on a way next level, But just in terms of the stuff that he's got, the ability to execute pitches and be consistent. I mean that to me is what what has separated Trek from basically everybody else in the game the season, Chef, is that you know, we saw him mature and come along.
You did a great job of describing his starts for the early throughout his career, and you saw, I think, the ability to make pitches. But now he's just making so many fewer mistake now during the course of an outing, where every pitch, it seems, is perfectly executed. It's not just the stuff, but the commander where it's located. That, to me is what stands out with him and just I think the ability for him to withstand a high workload is really unique, and that is something I think is
very special in the game right now. We don't see a lot of guys that do that. But he's got that Andy Pettitt persona on the mound right now, and it's a lot of fun to watch TV radio print. He does it all. He is John Paul Morosi, not just in baseball, by the way, hockey as well. You can follow him on x at
John Morosi. You know the big question. Your good friend Tom Verducci, who is very good at what he does as well, talked about how the Dodgers and the Orioles are trying to put together a big package to go after pitching, and one would think Derek Scoubel would be directly in their cross hairs. It's easy to ask, would you trade them? The harder question to
answer is what do you need to get in return? Because I remind people that when Verlander went to Houston, Houston gave them three of their top eleven prospects. Personally, I don't want prospects. I think they need major league baseball ready. Guys, what's your overall take on if and what Detroit should get should Trek Scooble be on the market, Well, sheepy, you're exactly right, and that's where the conversation is picking up if you're going to move
Schooble. And where the Tigers are in a good position is they don't have to. I think the industry knows they don't have to. It's not as though he's making a ton of money and that they're under duress to move the contract. You can basically make the deal that you want or just walk away and say hey, we'll catch up with you in the offseason, or'll catch up with you next year's trade deadline, or maybe never, depending on how
things play outs. But you can be too here and and if I'm the Tigers, and if I'm talking with with the Dodgers, I would say, Hey, Gavin Stone, who's already in the major leagues and is one of the Dodgers starting pitchers right now, he's got to be in the deal. And if they say no, say okay, well, we'll catch up later. I mean, this, this is where they're at. I mean, if you're if you are, if you're trading Schooble Jef, I fundamentally agree
with you. If you're talking with the Orioles, say hey, I got it. The name of Colden Kowser or Jackson Holiday or maybe even Jordan Westberg, who by the way, was an All Star last night. One of them has to be in the deal. And if they say that that's crazy and that's asking too much, say okay, fine, we'll catch up with you later on. I mean, I do think that Scott Harris and the
Tigers they probably owe it to themselves and the organization to explore this. I know that that fans won't want to hear that, but I think they have to at least go down that path. I mean, at the moment, Tigers do not have a winning record. They're below five hundred. They're looking up at three teams in the Central. If they were ten games over five hundred right now, it'd be a different conversation. But they're not. You
have to deal with the reality that you got. But part of that reality also is that Schooble has two years of control beyond this year, and you don't have to act like you need to rush into a deal to make it now. That being said, a little different conversation, but still something that history that you and I know well the Tigers missed their window to trade Michael
Foehmer when they did years ago. I know it was different front office, different everything, but Foemer was still pretty young in the way that school is still pretty young, and the Tigers probably could have gotten a franchise changing return for Fomer if they had really done it the right way, and then he started getting hurt and he was never the same after that in a Tiger uniform. That is the downside of this to where you also don't want to overplay
your head. You don't want to under play it, but you don't want to overplay it either, And I think that's where I think Scott Harris needs to do a lot of due diligence with this team in the next couple of weeks. I missed opportunity last year with Eduardo Rodriguez as well. Yes, exactly the same with one of the same suitors here with the Los Angeles Dodgers, So it's you're exactly right. There should have been more value brought back
to the organization last year than was at the deadline. Now, how you lead, there are people that really like what he's been able to do in the minor leagues, and I think that he's got a chance to be an everyday batan the Tigers going forward. So well done by the front office on
the acquisition of Lee last year in the Lorenzen deal. But you're right, this organization should have probably two more quality players either in the high miners or the major leagues already, who are not there right now because the Rodriguez deal did not happen as it should have two other names from the Baltimore organization in case people are wondering. Kobe Mayo, who's a third baseman, first basement
twenty two year old Triple A doing very well, hitting with power. And Connor Norby, a second basement slash outfield also at Triple A, a little older at twenty four, but blocked to a certain extent in Baltimore and is having big power and hitting over three hundred at Triple A as well. John Paul Morosi joining us here on X's and bros So Schooble's in that conversation. For sure, I agree one hundred percent with everything you've said. What about
Jack Flaherty, Is it a must trade for the Tigers with him? And if so, what could you get in return for a guy who's had kind of a renaissance to a certain extent he has, Yes, Yeah, But it's an interesting conversation because last year at this time Flarity also has moved to the deadline. I think you know, this year he's now had a little bit of a back issue that that knocked him out of one start. Hopefully
that's not a long term thing. I do think he's clearly somebody that you would trade, and because he's on an expiring contract, because you're not in a strong intending position at the moment, you probably have to temper your expectations a bit, broadly speaking in terms of what they could get back for him. Maybe it ends up being something similar to what they got with lorenz in
last year. The Lorenzen was an All star, So that's that's probably you know, how you lead is probably the high end of what you could get for Flarity right now, just based on his performance, the health risk, but I certainly think he's a quality guy that will have a market. There's enough teams out there that really need pitching help right now, sheep looking at the Los Angeles Dodgers for one example. I mean, they basically came into
co America last weekend and had two openers back to back days. That's not what you want to have if you're a team like the Dodgers, who believe that you can win the World Series this season. So whether Flarity could be a fit there, I know certainly Schooble is somewhat of interest to them. And then you look around the rest of the industry the various teams that could use some help. I think the Guardians could you use some pitching help.
You could even argue the Twins could do some pitching help as well. The Milwaukee Brewers need an arm. I mean basically, most teams that are right now in the conversation for the playoffs need a little bit more reliability, and I think Jack Flairty has pitched more than well enough to earn that level of status right now at the trade deadline, I think there are some really good
surprises in this first half. I've enjoyed the first half of baseball. What Kansas City has done fifty six wins a year ago already with fifty two, Cleveland ten games under the break even last year, and leading the division the way they are really impressive. What has surprised you most good and bad in the first half in all of baseball? I think the fact that I would add on what you said, I agree with fully about those teams in the
Central I'm surprised the Cubs are last. That to me is really mystifying. I expected more of them this season. I think, on the positive side, and mill Milwaukee has been better than expected, Boston has been a lot better than expected in Duran winning the MVP last night was pretty cool, a great way to cap the first half of them. Rafael Devers, of course, is doing what he normally does. Ken or Howke was an All Star, of course, and that was a great surve for Boston as well.
But the way in which Boston has closed the gap on New York and Baltimore, for me, is really surprising. And I think on the flip side, the way that the Toronto Blue Jays have really struggled this year is I think a very standout bit of information that probably is going to get discussed a lot here at the trade deadline. What the Jays can do in terms of selling some players. Is Boba set available, as lad Guerrero Junior truly available?
A lot of different conversations there. I think out West, I would have expected the Mariners to have a larger lead on the Astros than what they have right now based on the way the year started. But Houston has closed the gap to where now, Sheff, you might say, Hey, with all those years of experience the Houston Astros, now the just be one game back of Seattle. Here comes the Astros yet again, they simply will not
go away. I think those are all the notes there. I think the Mets being more competitive, they're in a playoff spot, probably not going to trade Pete Alonzo as a result. In the Philadelphia Phillies, of all the teams I've seen this season, Ship they've been the best. Chemistry is outstanding, They've got multiple All Star starters, multiple All Star relievers. They are the best team in baseball right now, and I think they're going to be
the favorite to win the World Series until proven otherwise. JP. I picked the Tigers in the offseason. I picked the Tigers to win the division. Now, some of that has to do with the fact that I didn't think Cleveland could bounce back, especially under a guy who has never managed before, in Steven Vote, and you've got to give him a massive amount of credit. And because I didn't think Kansas City would be as far along in their rebuild as they have proven to be. What has Detroit lacked most, what
has kept them from reaching what some people feel like is their potential. Why have they underperformed In many people's eyes, They've been a couple of bats short. And I think shep at the end of the day. If you would have said to me, if we were talking about this team and before opening day, and we would have said, hey, Porkalsen is going to be in the minor leagues in the middle of the season, and Bias's numbers are going to be among the worst in the league, I would say that they're
in trouble. And that's they've been in trouble Offensively, that's where they're at. I think col Keith's emergence has been a really important development that's been great in Riley Green being healthy for the most part of the season has been great as well, and that's really encouraging. But I think the struggles of Porkalsen
meadows bias. I mean, those are spots where shortstop first in center, you're expecting to get more out of than what you've had, and I think that's that's why they're I think a level below the other teams in the central right now. They pitched wise, I think more than adequate, especially when when School's on the mound and when Flarerty's on the mound. Miya has been
a disappointment, but you're not going to hit on everybody. I mean that they signed Clarity and Miaa and free agency, one of them has been good, one of them hasn't. That's that tends to be the way things typically go in free agency. With starting pitching, I think in the bullpen, you know, it's been an interesting year. I mean, Lang struggled, injured, Miller, Shelby. Miller's had one of the more unique season just
from a standpoint of decisions. I think, off the top of my head, Shet, I think he's like he's either like six and six or five and say he's like that number of decisions for a reliever at this stage that it's just it's pretty unique. Like you don't see a guy who's part of that many decisions typically at this time of the year as a reliever, and Shelby has been I think he's had an interesting year. He might be a trade candidate too. I think Folly for me, is a very solid closer.
It is certainly much more good than bad friend this season. He might be sobody as well. That ends up being part of the trade conversations too. So it's been an interesting year, I think in a lot of different ways. But I go back to just the offensive inconsistency. They they've been for meet one base hit, two base hits short of winning a whole lot more games, and I think if they had been more consistent at those key spots. And again this is not all Totals is fault, not all Meadows
is fault, It's not all Hobby's fault. He just collectively haven't been as good of an offensive team as I thought they were going to be. I really like Spencer Torkleson. I still think he's going to hit. I did expect him to have similar numbers this year than he had last year. Do you think he makes it back to the Tigers at some point? This season or do you think a full year at Triple A might do him best. No, it's a great question, and I think that it's going to be
a really interesting conversation for the Tigers. Honestly, out of the deadline, there might be some team out there that say that listen with our swing guy, with our with our team, we believe that that you're a makes league first baseman. So there are some teams I'd mentioned Seattle right now. If you're the Maritors and if you've had issues getting productivity at that position this season,
he's got to be somewhere on your list. Maybe not top of your list, but somewhere on it. And for all the teams out there, the thought that Alonso might be available, or that thought that Christian Walker might be available, and now those teams are playing better and maybe not going to sell, the next folk call might be the Tigers and say, hey, listen, what Troubles is doing right now? How's how are things looking?
I think that to me, don't be surprised that the Maritors, if they can't get who they want as a bat, don't be surprised that if they turn around and try to get Turtles with the Tigers. I think that's a very logical move. I mean, he's he's the kind of talent who, let's not forget last year, hit thirty home runs, and the number of guys who are young and relatively inexpensive and hit thirty home runs is not terribly high. And so I think that trying to get trying to maybe get focused
right now and a bit of a change of scenery that might help. I mean, I cannot imagine that he's having a good time as a as a triple A player right now. He's a proud he's a proud major league first basem who's a number and overall pick in the draft. He does not want to be in the minor leagues right now, and I think that that part of his story. If you can't find a way, in a clear path for him to be in the major leagues right now, then moving on,
honestly might be the best thing for all parties. Well, you tell a hell of the stories, and proud to call you a friend, JP.
