of that three game series. Ries Olsen takes the bumper to try to be Casey Mace tomorrow for the Tigers, who are now two games under the break even you've got NBA Finals tonight, Game three, it's Dallas trying to get on the board against the Celtics, Boston up two games to none, and the Meyer Classic, the tenth annual Meyer Classic, starts tomorrow. We were fortunate enough earlier today to talk with Brittany Lang. Really enjoyed that conversation.
We will have more coming up in the eight o'clock hour. Just before the break, somebody had mentioned via text about the Tigers or the Tigers the Lions third wide receiver role, and I said, you could make the argument that they are among the best trio in football. That might be a little extreme. I guess it depends on where your line of among the best. I don't think they're a top ten Is it the weakest part of their entire team?
That's debatable with their secondary because I haven't their secondary has not been proven yet. I think aman Ross Saint Brown is among the best in football. Jamison Williams has a lot to prove this year. Khalif Raymond, Donovan Peoples, Jones, whoever the number three wide receiver is will soon find out, you know, I mean, they've got plenty of guys who are going to be in camp. I don't think Antoine Green is going to win a spot. I don't think derse Fountain is going to win a spot. I doubt
Tom Kennedy is going to win a spot. It doesn't strengthen the cause there, does it. But if you look at other teams, the weakest part, the weakest link of their wide receiver corps would be the number three guy. I mean, Dallas Seedee, Lamb Brandon Cooks. You like them both, right, Jalen Tolbert. How much of a strength is that? Cooper Cup and Puka Nakua love them two? Two at well? Okay? Yeah? He he nearly doubled his career receiving yards, nearly doubled his career receiving
touchdowns. Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison. You bet their number three is what Trent Sherfield because kJ Osborne's gone right, didn't he go to New England? Seattle's is as good as it gets. Detroit doesn't come close to a DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett or a Jackson Smith and Jigga. Those three guys are ballers. What about Philadelphia? AJ Brown, Deavonte Smith Devonte Parker. Lions aren't touching that. I mentioned San Francisco, Brandon Ayuk, Juwan Jennings,
Deebo Samuel Deebo. Samuel's that wide receiver running back type thing. I'll tell you he's got a good one. Cincinnati see a lot of it starts with the one you got Jamar Chase. Of course you're gonna be in the conversation. Then you go to t Higgins. T Higgins is really good, and Trenton Irwin is a solid player. He's not gonna throw up huge numbers, but he's a solid player. Miami's better than Detroit, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Odell Beckham, Chicago's better. You would admit that, wouldn't you.
Two teams in the division have better have a better receiving cores than the Lions. I would say the Lions are middle of the pack. I misspoke earlier in saying that it's, you know, among the best and for all, it's not. We think Jamison Williams. This is me. This is exactly I get caught. This is why I say this all the time. It happens to me too. I get caught thinking of the in moment for our team. So I look at Jamison Williams and I think, man,
the dude's got talent. It's got great speed, he could extend the defenses, downfield, threat, so on and so forth. He's got to be No, he hasn't proven it. One guy has proven it. I'm on Ross Saint Brown. That's it. The more we talk this through, the more you realize the Texter has an X one point. How comfortable are you with Khalif Raymond down to People's jones as your number three? Great point by the Texter. So what I love about this show it forces you to think
a little bit further along. You got to talk it out a little bit. Look at Chicago's wide receiving Corps. Could you say they're the best with DJ Moore in uh Keenan Allen and Roma Dunzey. We don't know, because Dundee is an unproven player. What if he turned out? What if his first year is ends up like Jamison Williams. Probably not gonna happen, But I'm just saying. I mean that that's a possibility. We don't know, but on paper pretty damn good. I would say that's probably, at least
on paper number one. When You've got DJ Moore and Keenan Allen has proven proven guys. Miami's in that conversation, as I mentioned with Hill and Waddle and Beckham, anybody else we're missing Houston. Houston's got Stefan Diggs. Now with Nico Collins who had the big contract. Who's there? Three? They're three Tank Dell. That's who it is. It's seven receiving touchdowns a year ago through the first thirteen games of the year, So pretty damn good.
So Cincinnati's in there. As I mentioned San Francisco, I mentioned Philly, Detroit and not even close to any of those teams. We got another text, don't we Ben Yeah says if Memphis is ready to move on from Irant me personally, I'm calling them with Duran and Ivy swapped the first round pick and players to match salaries to pair with Caide, then draft the Connecticut center. Are you making that trade? Yeah? He's a star. I am, I'm making that. I don't think that's possible. Why would they move
on? I don't know. I don't think they would. But yes, you get a chance to bring in a guy that talented. Now, is there baggage for sure, But you're giving up Duran and you're giving up Ivy, and you're switching first round picks. Absolutely, the only issue there is I don't know if you would have the opportunity to draft the person you want. When we come back, Carol Lutz, who is the communications in pier director at Meyer, she'll talk about the annual Meyer Classic that begins tomorrow.
She's going to join us on the other side here on Exis and Bros. After this in with Dan Dickerson. Step up to the plate at Eagle Casino. The folks have been working year round on this, including Carol Lotz, who's the director of communications in pr Admire and she joins us, Now, what a great cause this is, Karen. I know you work
so hard at putting this event on. How satisfying is it for you now that you see it come to fruition starting tomorrow after all these long months of working toward this end goal here for you. Yeah, first of all, thanks for having me on this morning. Yeah, this is something that we plan, you know pretty much. You know, we kind of start really in around January really that first of the year, so we kind of start having those conversations of all the logistics that come together, whether it's all of
the activities planned media, sponsors, community partners as well. You know, it all starts kind of coming together, you know, well before this week
in June, so you know, we're really excited to see it. I'll kind of come together a get It's our tenth years, so you know a lot has has evolved and changed and it's just something we're really proud of to see the growth and the excitement and uh yeah, we're we're really excited for another great year and it's going to be, you know, an outstanding weekend for sure, to celebrate together the community. What's been the biggest change over
the ten year span of this event. I would just say the community, the community involvement. We have had more community partners than ever before, more volunteers than ever before, and I think just the growth of you know, whether it's from the span of players that we've that are working with us,
but also really the space that we've provided for our spectators. Our elevated food experience Jane Brewers and Fredericks is five thousand square feet larger this year, which is really exciting to see, as well as our Discovery Land Kids area that is larger as well. So, you know, just the magnitude of the
growth we've seen, you know, outdone you know, previous years. So that's what's really exciting to see is just the continued momentum and we just keep seeing an increase in numbers across the board, which is really great to see. Carol Let's joining us here on ex'es and Bros. She handles the communications in the media for Meyer and the Tathaniel Meyer Classic that is starting tomorrow.
We have Brittany Lang, one of the competitors in your tournament, on earlier today and one of the things she really loved most is about simply Give and how the tournament stands for and gives back to the community in such a way. How impactful has this tournament been for simply give? Can you put some numbers to it to help our audience with that a little bit? Yeah.
Absolutely. Our Simply Give Hunger relief program at Meyer has been around since two thousand and eight, so for the past sixteen years, this program has been alive and well and it's just a wonderful opportunity for our customers to support local food pantries in need. And then when we started the Myer LPGA Classic in twenty fourteen, we have continued to focus as well on the Simply Gift program, and so since twenty fourteen, the tournament alone has generated over ten million
dollars to Simply Give. So it's something that we are again extremely proud of and know that those dollars go directly to food pantries across the Midwest to help feed hungry families in need. Yeah, it's phenomenal, it really is. And it's so important the work that you guys do with this event. And it's such a beautiful setting too. Right, Why is the marriage with Blyfield Country Club so important? Do you think they've been with us from the very
beginning. I think that's really what is so special about our partnership with Slyfield over the last ten tournaments. They have been an incredible partner with us along this journey and from their staff to coordinating and according with our volunteers to get in touch with the staff and work with the staff. It's just a really cohesive community just uh, just all these different communities coming together and Blyfield is
kind of the glue and they keep everyone together. And it's a beautiful country club. They had some incredible renovations last year, so you know the clubhouses, you know, stick and span, and you have a wonderful putting green area, and there's a lot more safe and it's just a wonderful place to be. And again it's there's nothing better than West Michigan in the summer on a golf course, and Blackfield embodies all of those qualities. Yeah, and
I'm excited to be there tomorrow broadcasting live here with X's and Bros. The attendance continues to grow too. How important has that been just from a community standpoint where people are starting to make this an annual you know, pilgrimage if you will, to support not just a great cause and the country club, of course, but to see some of the best golfers in the world. Yeah. I mean, we have folks come from around the world to this
tournament, from players to spectators to volunteers. But you know, our spectators are really are really the heart of this tournament. We know that they are coming not only to see great golf, but enjoy some great food, to have activities for their kids, opportunities for them to see some of the best
women's golfers up close. And so we know that there's something for everyone here and that's what makes also this tournament very special is giving spectators the opportunity to make it an experience that they would like, and whether they're at our elevated food experience Shape Brewers, or they are at our grant tease concessions, which is a very affordable food option, everything as four dollars or less at those
grant ease concession areas across the course. There's something for everyone here, So we are really pleased to see that our spectators, you know, are continuing to come here every year and that there are affordable options for families to enjoy the tournament as well. Carol Lutz, who is handling the communications from Meyer and the Tathaniel Meyer Classic, joining us here on XIS and Bros. The field is pretty special too, and of course the number one player in the
world, Nellie Korda, is out there. She's a past champion. But you've got some big names out there. That tells you something about the area, about the cause, and about the tournament in general. Knowing when you have that many big names, this many big names out there to constantly come to here and participate in the event, that is something special, don't you think. Yeah? Absolutely, we have five previous champions here back at Blackfield,
which is really exciting. And then we have like you mentioned Nelly, but also our number two and number three in the world are here as well, so we have a great field as well. And then our exemptions including Brittany Lane, but also Katie Lou from Michigan State University. She's an incredible student athlete and she got to do some practice runs with Lexi yesterday which is
awesome. And then we also had our John Ship and Winner as well, so we have some really great uh, just a well rounded mix of players and again just the top of the top, and so they love coming out here and we love posting them as well. Yeah, it's great stuff, it really is. We wish you the best. We're honored that we're going to to be able to broadcast live from there tomorrow, and I know our friend Bill Simonson, the Huge Show will be out there as well, and
he's just as excited as we are. Thanks for the time, We appreciated, Kara, continued success and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow. Okay, thank you so much. Yeah, happy, happy to chat and we'll see you soon. Yeah, sounds great, Thanks so much, Have a great day, Caara, lots from communications and handling the media there with the tenth Anniel Meyer Classic joining us here on x'es and bros. Really fired up for that. And anytime she's right, I bring up Nellie Corda. She's
amazing. She's won six of her last eight starts. Okay, she actually won five consecutive starts in a row and she's only twenty five. She is the face of women's golf. She won the event back in twenty twenty one, and she's a phenomenal player. But I love the fact that Lexi Thompson is there. She's announced this season is going to be her last before retirement. She's a fifteen time winner on the LPGA Tour at just a young age
of twenty nine. But she's out there and she's won it before too, by the way, So you have players like that with name recognition, but also with other players who you know are going to be out there as highly rated and local connections too. And as I mentioned, Brittany Brittany Brittany Lang, who we had on earlier today, set all the right things, does all the right things. She had mentioned Katie Lou and I don't have mentioned
all American. She's going to be out there first Team All Big Ten selection. Jennifer Song is from ann Arbor. She's going to be in the in the field as well. So they do it the right way. That's the that's what you're supposed to do in to do in these types of tournaments. So I think there's one hundred and forty four golfers out there, then you'll narrow it down for the weekend. And I'm looking forward to being there tomorrow and I hope you can join us here on Exis and Bros. Stay with
us more about that tournament and about the NFL. As we mentioned earlier today, want to talk about a few other things that are taking place regarding the National Football League and the NBA. We got a text regarding the NBA and what the Pistons should do. We'll get to that when we come back on Exus and Bros. After this. We're teaming off our tenth here at the Meyer LPGA Classic for simply gives get ready for the best who are yet to
help neighbors in need while enjoying golf, food and family fun. Join us June thirteenth through the sixteenth at Blakefield Country Club for fabulous food discoveryland for kids, and of course, elite women golfers from around the world competing to help feed our neighbors. Get your tickets now at Meyer LPGA Classic dot com. We continue with the golf theme here on Exus and Bros. This morning,
the tenth Anniel Meyer Classic taking place starting tomorrow. One of the competitors hoping to win it, Linea Strom. She joins us here on Exus and brose Lneil, We appreciate your time very much. She won the Shopwright LPGA Classic earlier this year, so she's been playing solid golf and she looks forward to the matchup here at Blayfield Country Club and we'll be broadcasting live there tomorrow morning.
Linea, thanks again for your time. Have you had what's your experience with the country club, with the course layout, and what are your thoughts on it as you get ready for the tournament tomorrow. Yeah, it's great. I have finished playing in early nine host this morning, and the courses in great condition. Greens are quite firm, which is fun. You have
to think a little bit extra about your approach shops. But yeah, I really look forward to getting started tomorrow and been quite a quick turn around for me since I you know, came here early Monday morning and just came off on a wind last week, so it's been a couple of busy days, but I do look forward to getting started tomorrow. How long does it take you to get comfortable with the course? I mean, usually not too long.
In this one, I've been here I think the past three years, so it's kind of nice to get back to a place where you know where everything is and you know the course pretty well. But usually I mean after like one or two practice rounds, I feel like I'm pretty pretty comfortable with it, and I, you know, also trust my caddy that he's done all of his work prior to the event as well. What will be most
important in your shot making this weekend? I would say it's It's a very good tea course, so I would say the driver is pretty important this week to put the ball in play off the tee because there's quite a few big trees out there and the rock is pretty thick as well, so I would say that the t shots will be key this week. Linea Strom joining us here on Exus and Bros. She was to contend for the Mayer Classic, the tenth annual, taking place in the tease off tomorrow at Blackfield Country Club.
We will be there live. When you see a course like this and you know the scores can be low, I mean historically that's what it takes. How much more inviting is that for a player knowing that you've got a chance to go really low to win a championship. Yeah, it's fun with a low scoring course. And I mean I do feel like this course. Like you said, it is possible to shoot some of those scores here if you hit some good shots, but it can also be tricky if you don't
hit it very good. So it's kind of fun in that way, like having that in the back of your head to you know, try and go for some pins and try and make a lot of bardies out there. What's your favorite club in your bag and why I would say at the moment, it's probably my wedges. Very comfortable with the wedges, and I hit those a lot last week and hit those pretty good. So it's always nice when you when you're comfortable with those, because it's a it's an important club in
the bay. Yeah, help us with this. How much this is your livelihood so you're practicing regularly? How much work do you and other members on the LPGA Tour put in before you get ready for a tournament. What's it like trying to prepare for a tournament for you? So, usually at the tournament side, I mean we usually play I mean either nine holes or eight can halts practice round and then usually program the day before the tournament as well.
But then we also put a lot of work in on the driving range, the putting grain and short game and you know, getting used to the speed on the greens and the firmness and how the chip shots reacting, how the bunker shots reacting. So we pretty much go through everything and you know, spend a couple of hours each day. And then we also make sure that our body is in good shape, so you know, we go to the gym with your stretching, see our fictio. So it's a lot of
work outside of the course as well that people don't usually see. This tournament is deeply involved in simply give giving back to the communities in the area for those who are not as fortunate, and you're trying to you know, you're helping with those food pantries. How important is that for you and other members on the LPGA tour to stay involved in such a worthy cause, I think
that's very important. And you know, I just walked off the eighteenth hole and they have a very big, simply Gift sign just to the right of the green. So it's just so much fun to see that. It's very important, and I think, including myself and a lot of the other players too, I think we're very happy to be part of that. And you know, I love giving back, to giving back to the community, so it's super fun to see that the Mayor Classic is doing that as well.
There's so many tournaments out there for you to play. You can't play every single one of them. Why is this one on your list? To make kind a pretty regular basis. I mean, I love coming here. It's a great golf course, very good golf club. And yeah, I mean I in general, I do enjoy playing a lot of golf. And you know, I set my schedule early in the year and then I had this
on top of the list and I was late. It's been a little bit hectic coming off a when last week, but I'm happy to be here and it might give me a little bit more flexibility towards the end of the season to maybe take some more off weeks off tournaments, but yeah, I really enjoy coming back here every year, so that's good. Yeah, Linnea Strom is joining us here on x'es and bros. I asked this earlier today when we welcome Britney lang in. You play your pro ams, which is awesome.
I've been in them. I've played with LPGA players and pro ams. It's so enjoyable because we get such a first hand view of how talented you truly are, but you also get a first hand view of how struggling golfers enjoy the game too. What is it you either enjoy most or laugh most about your experiences with pro ams? I think, I mean it's very funny
because I think almost every week a lot. I understand that amateurs are nervous coming to play at tournament course and getting to play with a pro, but almost every single time one of them will say, oh, I'm sure I'm the worst golfer you've ever seen, and I'll always laugh and tell them, trust me, I've seen way worse, because I mean, it's just fun
for it's fun for us. I mean, for me, it's all about meeting new people and making sure that the amateurs have a good day out on the course and you know, maybe giving them some tips here and there, just making sure they have an enjoyable time playing with a professional golfer. So it's quite fun and I mean it is laughable sometimes, but I always try and tell them that they don't need to be nervous. You know, we understand that everyone is not as good at golf as we are, so it's
quite quite entertaining. You remember the Swedish national golf team you came to America, played it at Arizona State, I believe right, Uh yeah, as part of a national championship team, as a as a native of Sweden. Who is Sweden's greatest sports hero do you think? Because we here in Michigan we love Nick Lidstrom, one of the greatest defensemen, if not the greatest defenseman of all time. I don't know if you parlay other sports or you
respect, you know, the Swedish influence in the game of hockey. How would you answer, Swedish biggest hero sports wise? Oh? Biggest here of sports wise. I mean we do have quite a few, and especially in hockey, Like you said, it's very big in Sweden and big here in Michigan too. Obviously in the golfer industry, Anica Thornstem So I think she's the one that probably has influenced medium most and you know, very relatable since
she's a golfer. Other than that, I mean, we had quite a few and then we have a slap of Neighbrahimovich, the soccer player just played in America a lot as well. So yeah, quite a few, and I'm a few tennis players too. Beyond board, Yeah, bere on board was was was incredible when when you won the championship you were I think you won the Pac twelve championship, you were first, two time first team All
American. How how influential was that in your career? Knowing that you were that good at the collegiate level, that gave you the confidence to succeed at the professional level too. I think that was that was a very important turning point in my college career because I had kind of been struggling a little bit early on my freshman year and then I ended up winning that back twelve later in my freshman year, so kind of gave me that confidence, you know,
going into my second year of college. And then the year after that, we ended up winning the national championship together with the team, So it was just quite a cool experience. And you know how college golf is. It's so much fun because you have the team and the coaches supporting you, and it was just a very enjoyable time for me because I love I love playing team golf, and as soon as you turn pro and you get out
on the LPGA, it's very individual. So I really look back at those college years and you know, they were an amazing time, So I'm very thankful for those years. Yeah, last question for you've been at this long enough so it's really not new to you both. What was the biggest difference or stiffest challenge jumping from the collegiate ranks to the professional ranks for you or in general on the LPGA tour, I would say, I mean, it's
pretty much like you start from scratch. It when you turn pro, it doesn't really at it what you've done as an amateur, because you know, you pretty much go into Q school like everyone else. You have to make sure you earn your status on the LPGA Tour, and then other than that, I think it's it's just a lot of other things too, because you need to do all of your planning yourself. You need to set the schedule. You need to know how many weeks in a row can you play,
how much can you practice? How is your body going to hold us? Because in college you had the coaches pretty much planning everything for you. They planned the tournaments, they booked a fly So it was just quite quite easy in college, to be honest, now when you look back at it, when you turn and pro you completely on your own and you have to organize everything yourself. So that was a big challenge the first couple of years.
I bet you ever get tired of practicing. No, generally not, but obviously there are moments where you want to wake up when you don't want to go to the golf course, and then you kind of just have to push through. Or maybe that's maybe that's your body telling you, like you need to do something else today. But I mean it's at the end of the day. I feel like when you have certain goals that you want to reach, you have that in the back of your head and that's always going to
keep you motivated to go to practice. You told me if you got to go, I I want to ask you a couple more if you don't mind. There's a famous story about Jack Nicholas and how he his favorite club was the three would and he only had it regripped once in his entire career and people couldn't believe it. How often? Wow? Yeah, how often are you regripping your clubs? How often are you changing clubs within the same manufacturer. It's funny to ask, because I actually I actually read with my clubs
yesterday, the whole bag. So I mean, I would say we go through the grips quite often. I would say grips probably maybe every third or four months, and same with wedges. I get new wetches probably every third month or so. But then irons I keep for a full season. The woods I can keep for a couple of years. I have the same three wood and five wood that I've had for the past three years, I think so, and the pattern I had for three seasons. So I think it's
just the wedgless. You go through a lot with the short game and especially the bunker shots, and you want to make sure you have fresh fresh growth in the wedges. But iron's probably only one per season. Wow, once per season. Yeah, That's that's incredible, is it? Are you always using the same club? Is that because of technology? Is it because of the grooves? Like you mentioned? What why so frequently to go through a different set of irons every single every single year. Well, just with all
of them with practice and play. I mean, they groups do go bad after a while, and it's nice to start to see them with fresh ones. And then you know, the club companies they come out with new models and they always want us to try them, and most of the time I do like the new models. So it just depends. But it I'm also very careful as well, because I know if I have clubs in the bag that I know are working, I'm comfortable with. I'm not hesitating to make
any changes. Sure, what are your irons and what are your woods? Are they the same or are they different? Now I play, I play all PhD clubs, the whole bag, and they've been they've been great, great for a couple of years. So yeah, I'm very happy with my clubs. Beautiful, Hey, listen, really enjoyed it. Congratulations on your on your success last week, and congratulations on all you've accomplished at the collegiate level. Really look forward to watch Can you play this week? And line
Astrom. Thanks for your time so much. Stay healthy and have a great weekend. Okay, yeah, thank you so much. Yeah, I really enjoyed it. Yeah you too. That's fantastic. I just that's that's fun to learn for about people's craft on how seriously they take it, but also all the things that goes into it. That's amazing to me. Every who would have thought that every year because it's not being spoiled. I'd love to know what they do with their old clubs. Can I have them? No?
Just kidding, But here's the thing. They because they use them so often, because they're practicing. I mean, this is an everyday thing for them, so they're bound to be using it and I don't want to say damaging it, but it takes its toll on the equipment you're going to have to get. It's no different than any other sport. I suppose baseball players, you know they're going to go through They're going to go through spikes. Gloves are a little different. They only primarily they'll have a game glove,
they'll have a practice glove. They're the same glove obviously, but with pro golfers, to have that change as often as it does is I find fascinating. I really do. I want to get to one more thing before we say go bye. I know we're running up against it. Ben's probably shaking his head right now. He's prialy saying what's going on here. Somebody had tweeted this out the other day. They said, the Tigers loss last night,
but it might be the worst of the season. They wrote to Riley Green's er because he moves like he's forty six with three kids and can't bend down. I don't think he moves like forty six. Can we just try to keep things in perspective. Two games ago, he makes a diving catch that is a top ten play in baseball at a top ten sport play on ESPN. So let's not get carried away at forty six. Sure, he misplays a ball, how often times do we see him diving? Forty six
year olds aren't diving for catches like that. Kredler boots a routine ground ball that's not expected of him. He's the guy who is supposed to make the routine play. I said that about him when somebody suggested you get rid of Baiaz and you just bring up Kredler. So the thing Kridler does he makes the routine play, did not make it last night? Then this person tweeted Rogers who blocks everything decides to pick up a two strike flat to pick a
two strike slider. Yes, you know why because Andrew Chafin throws two pitches, and the one pitch he predominantly throws, his slider, is his best pitch. It's his out pitch. It's up to the catcher to stop it. Of course you're going to call that. That's the right call. You just got to stop it. I just needed to address that.
