Where are we at in society today? Come after me. I'm a man, I'm forty. Go ahead, make my day every single week. I put my freaking heart and soul into this. I don't go out there and laugh. It's not funny. Nothing's funny to me. I don't want to go out there and get embarrassed on Monday night football fund everybody. I think that at the beginning of a beautiful friendship. So I ain't nothing changed from yesterday. Still the same person I was yesterday, and I got the same
thing for you that I had yesterday. You know why I'm here. You play to win the game. You don't play to just play it. That's a great thing about sports. Get played a win, and I don't care if you don't have any wins. You'll go play to win. You start telling me it doesn't matter. There were time, get out for the matters, right, all right? Good morning, everybody, Good morning Michigan.
Dennis fit the in with you here on x'es and bros. In for Matt Shepherd on the Michigan Sports Network and listening to my voice for the first time, say what's going on? Don't panic? Chef's just taking the day off. And I filled in with him for him a few times. I can now say this summer, because it is officially summer and we're ready to go and lift off this weekend. Lot of sneaky things going on in sports that you can find yourself interested in, and guess what we're going to talk about
all of them. But the big thing that is looming over sports on this Monday is the Game seven tonight between the Oilers and the Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final. Now you just say game seven and it gets oh, you
know, people are getting interested when you hear that. And then you get it into the finals, and you get into the Stanley Cup Finals, and then you add in the history of what is at stake here with the Edmonton Oilers who were done and buried in down three in good Night and they were already couldn't blame them, getting ready to engrave the Stanley Cup, getting all
the names out for the Panthers and everything else. But as you probably know by now, this thing is completely flipped and Edmonton is I say, not just come back, that's the story. They've come back, but they've just pounced and obliterated the Panthers on the way to set up this showdown tonight down
in South Florida. But it just makes you think of all kinds of different things when it comes to sports in a Game seven, when it's like this, a lot of history, and then you start thinking about your own teams when they've been in a spot like this. And we'll get to all of that. In fact, coming up at seven oh one, I will be recounting my own favorite Game seven. I will go back and give you my favorite Game seven moment, and I'll be asking you that as well as the
question of the day. You're on x'es and bros. Your favorite Game seven or your favorite Game seven moment. Of course, you can in this six o'clock hour, jump right in across Michigan and answer that question. And from my experience of six or seven shows now that the six o'clock hour is the very best hour to get in. So if you've ever wondered, like heck, man, I want I want to talk some Game seven. I'll talk
some hockey. I want I talk of Game seven in baseball or basketball, well you know this is it. The text is also available for you. Let me get the numbers out there for you eight six, six, eight, three eight forty eight forty three. That's the Meyer hotline eight sixty six eight three eight forty eight forty three, and you can text in by texting sports Radio to twenty one thousand. Sports radio is all one word, So
that's the way it's done. So if you want to jump in on that, that big question of today coming up in less than an hour from right now, I'll be answering that. You know the rest of what's going on in sports as we close down June. It always when you start July you get the free agency. So it's something to keep in mind. So hockey is going to end tonight one way or the other. I could get into
some overtime situation. Whoa Game seven overtime could get into a situation like that, But it will end at some point tonight or this morning, and then free agency cranks right back up a week from today in the NHL. So that'll perk yourself up if you're an NHL fan, certainly a Red Wings fan thinking about a free agency. We will talk with the color analyst from the Detroit Red Wings coming up in just about an hour from a right now.
Paul Woods is his name, longtime color analyst for the Red Wings former captain of the Wing Wheelers. Also in the NBA. The NBA has a big week and the Pistons they are included in the NBA, but they not if they have I don't know if it's the biggest week. But they have a lot of new things happening, a new GM, they're in search of a new coach. They've got a top five pick number five, so it's a
lot of things. That is a big week for the Pistons. And with the NBA the draft will be Wednesday and then free agency on Sunday, so that's big, you know, and you've got a lot of cap room if you're the Pistons, around sixty million I say that, and you know you can go on and get a big, big time player, maybe just one, but you know, nobody's taken one gigantic player is not taking sixty million
for the Pistons. The big ones will be going somewhere else. So but they've they've got some money there and they're you know, obviously some players out there. We'll see what they are able to do when it comes down to that. Some of the other thing that you know, you're a little neat I don't know if they're neat sports or needs interest things that are talked about
dominating sports talk across Michigan. But over the weekend you had you had golf the Travelers and Scottie Scheffler won it in a playoff, but you had six protesters storming the green on the final hole and it was pretty wild. I wasn't watching that live, but if you're just sitting back, I guess gott to tip my hat to security. I don't notice, you know, I don't notice security at golf events. But there were you know, like you said, six protesters and all of them I don't know, a smoke bombs
or whatever kind of colored powder whatever they had. You know, they they ripped up their messed up the green a little bit and they had to come right back on the playoff and they had to move the hole, and you know they were still they tried to, you know, do what they could do with the green there. But I'll just give it up to security that was able to get those of you know, six protesters. It was weird. You know, come they're running through the sand trafts. The next thing
you know, you got security running out of the green. It was a wild scene and uh, nobody got hurt. And you know, when you think about a tournament and then could they have changed a hole or anything else that went along with that, But that was just a that you know, we've seen protests just see people running out the fields, but you know the you know, drunk idiots a lot of times. And yeah, we have seen some protesters, but here were a half dozen of them running out there,
and uh, it was pretty wild scene. Meanwhile, well we have a Game seven in the Stanley Cup Finals. We've got a Game three. It doesn't quite have the ring of Game seven a game three, but there's only three games in the College World Series and we are going to a game three with Tennessee and Texas A and M. So that's some drama. That's pretty cool there. And you did have Clark and Reese yesterday playing. If you keeping tabs on the WNBA, these are the two that are gonna I
don't know further the interest of course in the WNBA. And they squared off. We'll get this. Some Tigers they pound the White Sox and they're now they bring in the Phillies. So you've got the worst case situation, worst team and now the best team coming in the extremes for the Tigers, but coming up straight ahead. Just how big of a deal is this comeback that the Oilers are on the precipice of Will get to that straight ahead with your
questions, your comments, your feedback. Dennis fifthean in for Matt Sheppard. Ben Zost is here on extras and Bros on the Michigan Sports Network. You need beach towels, you need toats, you need lawn chairs, all the things to

The wheels are turned in a little bit here this morning on Ex's and rods. Then it's fit then for Matt Shepherd is we ask you and we dive into it, just how big of a deal is coming back from an three deficit, which the oilers have done. And I have this Game seven coming up tonight.
You can jump in on that. I'd like to hear your thoughts on it. It involves the question of the day that I'll be answering coming up at the seven oh one, your favorite Game seven or your favorite Game seven a moment, But we do have this Game seven coming up here tonight, and just how big of a deal is it now if we're just being technical and at the start we will be technical that in the final. So it's
never been done in the NBA coming back from three. It's only been done once in baseball history, and that was the Red Sox over the Yankees. It has been done more than once in the NHL, and in fact it has been done. Were we at four times, four comeback winners, But it's only been done once. And the Stanley Cup Finals back in nineteen forty two, the Leafs came back and beat the Red Wings. That's been over eighty years. Now does it matter if it's the Stanley Cup Finals or if
it's the playoffs? Yet matters? I mean it's the biggest stage, so that does matter. So if somebody's saying, well why is everybody buzzing about this the game, Well, it's something that could happen tonight if Edmonton wins four games. It hasn't been done in eighty two years. That's why it's a big deal that it was against the Red Wings and Jack Adams and sid Abel old bootnse for the Red Wings that you know, it does have the local flavor back in forty two. But that's why it's a big deal.
There have been two hundred and ten teams that have been down three in NHL playoff history and we have four comeback winners. The forty two Leafs, these seventy five Islanders did it against the Penguins, and then two more recent the Flyers did it in twenty ten, and then four year later the Kings did it in twenty fourteen. That's it. Forty two Leafs, seventy five Islanders, ten Leafs, fourteen Kings. That is it. So that's why it's a big deal. And it said there have been zero in the NBA.
But last year the Celtics were down three to the Heat and they forced the game seven. Sing a game seven is a big deal. You get where this is momentum. And I thought Boston was going to win last year and they didn't. But it's it's so it's never been done in the NBA and just once in baseball, and because it's it's the finals, this would be the biggest in the biggest comeback in in hockey history, really in in hockey, baseball and basketball history, because it is the finals. Biggest sense if
you say, well, what about the leaves, this is bigger. You know, it's a different game, they have to play more series, whatever else. However, you I would say it's bigger now eighty two years later, with all due respect to the forty two leaves. So that that's it.
Although if the Red Sox because of the rivalry between the Yankees and the Red Sox, and you may hate the Yankees in the Red Sox rivalry, it is it gets When it was happening, it was really shoved down the rest of America's throat to the to almost a nauseating situation that you know, you just couldn't every other game everybody talking, but you know, if you're able to take a step back from that or hold your nose or whatever else, you know, that was it had never happened in baseball, and you
know, and there we were, and then it did happen, and it was pretty compelling, and that's it. You know, you you spend enough time following sports and it was just like over this weekend, Now the Tigers, they took two of three from the White Sox. Now the White Sox are pitiful, They're the worst team in baseball. So you know, you know, feel like it's a disappointment because it didn't sweep the worst team in the majors. But if you follow enough baseball, you know how difficult it
is. It's difficult to sweep a team, even the worst team in baseball. You follow it enough, you almost hear that one hundred times during the year. That's just tough to sweep a team. And so you get to the highest level in a Stanley Cup final and you know this is a three game sweep to get a three to zero lead, that it's rare. And I just know how I feel when a team gets down three to zero.
I look at it and yeah, it's over, because I do have history in my mind, but I just also feel the the it's a disappointment. Also, these guys have to feel the dejection where they just feel like they have absolutely no hope. And I know that they're like, we just got to go out and win the first shift in first period and then they go
from there. That's the kind of way they talk. I guess a fan, you could talk like that too, but you can't help the you know, like your your feelings about, well, this thing is just absolutely over. But then to see them come back and just roll, you know, after Game four, it's like Man eight one, you know whatever that was. You know, the Mavericks they came back and pounded the Celtics a bout like forty or fifty points or whatever it was to avoid the sweep. What
did Boston come back and do? Then they dropped a hammer on them they were at home. The Panthers did not do that, as you know, and then the Oilers forced this Game seven, and now the momentum is so much Edmonton. I would think that the majority of the people out there, you know, that's the tough part. You know what history says. I've just talked about it for twenty minutes. Less than two percent of a chance. If you're just talking about the Stanley Cup finals, it's less than that.
So if you're looking at the data, it'd be interesting that you know, you're driving around Michigan and you're like, am I a data person or am I a momentum person? Am I a left brain or am I a right brain? Because if you're a numbers person, a history person, and you look at it like that, you say, the Panthers are going to win this game tonight. They're at home, and no team in eighty years,
over eighty years, has many able to do this. Meanwhile, if you've watched this series, and you've watched these last three games, the way that Edmonton has played, they are steamrolling the Panthers. Bbrowski, who's this brick wall is now a sief and so now in the defense, and they give up the first goal is and it is like they've got nothing. Their heads are down talking about the Panthers. So you can, however you look at it. That's the intriguing part of this. The odds makers have they're
the ones that don't care about history here. They don't care about them, They don't caring about putting a line out here. They have Florida. They have Florida as the slight, slight favorite. Now for me, when I look at this thing here, uh tonight, I can recall there's been two game seven since the Red Wings lost a Game seven in nine to the Penguins.
But I can remember, you know, being down there sifting through all the numbers and what they said is that home heites really doesn't matter in the Stanley Cup playoffs until a Game seven, and it really matters in a game seven when you're at home in the Stanley Cup finals. The numbers were amazing, not just talking about being down oh three, I'm talking about just game sevens. And of course the Red Wings lost that one, so all of that went out the window. So you know, the Panthers do have some
things to lean on home ice in history there. They've got two things, a lot of history on their side. I don't know if that makes you feel any better. I don't know how many p other fans are out there all right. Coming up next big week for the Pistons and the NBA, we'll touch on that a little bit. Ex'es and Rose on the Michigan Sports Network. If you're Michigander, you're like, oh sweet, you know Traverse City, let's go, or you know, mid Michigan. Some of us feel like, you know, that's up north. Family has a cottage and clear we feel like that is definitely up north. But our guess
that is coming up from. In the seven o'clock hour, Paul Woods, the color analyst for the Detroit Red Wings, said, yeah, I'll be driving back from up north tomorrow morning. And I should have said, you know, like I don't know where are you coming from? Uh? You know the upper who knows where he's coming from in Canada. All right, though, we have been talking a lot of hockey with the game seven coming up tonight between the Panthers and Oilers in Florida, and the question of the
day I'll be hitting on coming up at seven o'clock. I'll just recap my favorite game seven, and I'm asking you your favorite Game seven or favorite Game seven. Moment you can get to that. I'm going to turn my attention to the NBA here this segment, but I present to you the opportunity of open topics while I'm on That means, if you're really someone who wants to talk about baseball, could be the Tigers, it could be the college baseball
because they have a Game three coming up tonight. Well you could jump on in and I can handle it. I'll go from the NBA over to baseball, to college baseball. If you're somebody that watched golf yesterday or the WNBA and you wanted to get into that, well that's why I say it's open topics for you. I'm trying to guide you along thinking what would be the biggest stories. But is also why we present to you the open topic situation
here eight six six eight forty three on the Meyer Hotline. If you want to take advantage of that, eight six six eight three eight forty eight forty three. Can also speaking of taking advantage, hit the text by texting sports radio all one word no space between sports and radio to twenty one thousand. You type that your thoughts they're on the text and they come to us and we read them over the air and we handle it that way. So yeah,
a bunch of different ways to get involved. You can also if you're somebody who enjoys social media. I don't know, as the weeks go by, it seems like more people don't like social media or like to complain about social media. But whatever however you feel about that, you could text x'es and bros. At XB mornings. I'm on Twitter at Dennis fifty and so all of that is there for you. The NBA is fascinating in a lot
of ways. Now. If you're a Celtics fan and you know, it's been a great season, one other championship, coronation parade, get ready, it's all great. But the rest of the NBA, you know, now gets ready for a big week in the draft coming up on Wednesday, and
then free agency, which technically for the NBA is Sunday. Oh, they start talking, I would guess, you know, I don't know how much they want to, you know, cross their wires from to Wednesday, but after Wednesday in the draft, certainly by Friday, and they're already have been players that like I don't know Maleikue Monk. He says he's staying with Sacramento. Pascal Siakam, who's at the top of the list of anybody who would want one of the big time free agents, you know, he says he's
gonna take the max deal at Indiana. So we've already seen some of that. We'll see a lot more of that. Even though we're talking about Sunday when it could officially happen, they are already wheeling and dealing behind the scenes. So it's just official coming up on Sunday. So we'll hear a lot about pending free agents and where they're going, and also the draft on Wednesday.
But you add in that the Pistons have a new GM. I mean, they're the worst team in the league, but they you know, that's why they have a new GM, That's why they are going to have a new coach and they've got a top pick. Will they have a coach in place by Wednesday? I would think that they would want to do that. I would think that Trajan Langdon would want to bring in a coach that's going to have a say and what they're going to want to do in the draft
this week. And then of course with free agency. That's why having it, you know, not firing Monte Williams until last week was a little curious that they couldn't get that done before because if we're just you know, talking about the best way to do things, we can all agree that you do want to get that coach in before that. But hey, it is the Pistons, and it doesn't mean that this new era is getting off on the wrong foot. But how much of a benefit of the doubt that they really
get considering how they've operated over the past ten fifteen years. Not a whole lot you do get. You know, you don't want to just completely throw these guys overboard and say, oh it's this is the same old Pistons under Tom Gorris or whatever else. But that is there for them. Anyways, as far as the coaches go, I think the top guy that if I could just pick and say, okay, this one, this seems like the best case scenario. This seems like the best guy. It's Trajan Langdon,
who was down in the New Orleans organization. Their assistant head coach, James Barrego won two titles with the Spurs, and then he has been the public assistant head coach, and so you work under Popovich, you're with you have the connection with Langdon as a Pelican's assistant, he seemed like he would be one option. The t Wolves assistant who's a former Piston's assistant is out there, Nori Uh. He's a as a never of those doesn't matter. But he's a funny guy, a lot of quips, a lot of you know,
a lot of fun post games. If he would be in there, that doesn't matter for the team on there, you might be a fan. You like that where it's gonna be, He's gonna have some fun. Another former Pistons assistant is a guy named Sweeney who was along with Jason Kidd going to the NBA Finals this year and was also with Kid when he was with the Bucks. And then there's Jay be Bickerstaff who's got some previous head coaching experience. Those are the ones that you would like to see one of those
guys tabbed before Wednesday and the draft. Now, the draft is not all that interesting compared to where the draft has been, but at this draft, the NBA Draft has been going this way for a couple of years. Back in the day, the NBA Draft was a gigantic night. It was as much fun as the NFL Draft. I know, you know, if you're
younger, you could say what are you talking about? But it was like that you had watched ninety percent if not more, of these players that are all going to get taken in the draft, and you know you've you had a good feel about him. Now you don't have any of that percent of the player you have not watched. And then you add in that this year, yeah, the Atlanta Hawks have the number one pick, but this was not the year that you wanted the number one pick. You add tense.
This is like having the Hawks in a regular year having the number ten pick. Pistons at five, this is like having the fifteenth pick. So it's a light draft. Just how the experts have looked at it and what they say about it. I'd buy that now when I add the ten picks out there, So the Pistons like have the number fifteenth, number fifteen, even
though they have number five. It immediately made me think of you know, you can still we might not know, and we might not know for a couple of years, but you know, two players pretty recently taken at number fifteen in the NBA Draft, Kawhi Leonard, who went on to win an NBA title with Toronto, and then Giannis the Greek Freak, was taken at
fifteen by the Buck. So you know, yeah, it's a light draft on paper as we take a look at it, but you can find guys and yeah, I mean you can go back and start talking about that, Well, the Joker was taken to the second round. That's all true. I was just trying to give you a little feel for it as you head into Wednesday. But I looked a lot at the draft yesterday and this is what I think is the best case scenario for the Pistons. I think this
draft revolves around the San Antonio Spurs. They won the lottery and they got Wemby last year, and he's French and it just so happens that three of the top prospects in the NBA Draft the French, and so San Antonio wanting to surround Wembin Yama with you know, they want to make him happy. He he loves France, He's got connections with these players. I'm thinking that they want one, if not two of these top frenchmen that are going to
be available in the draft. On Wednesday. Now that's not a sure thing, but it just so happens that the Pistons is talked about, and you probably know they're at number five. Well, San Antonio has four and eight. If one of those Frenchmen fall to four, maybe the Spurs would want to give the Pistons a future number one to grab the other frenchmen. They would. They might be a little nervous that he might not be there at eight. You might roll your eyes and say that's too much to give up
for a couple of spots. But when you add in lottery protection and you think about just how wembin Yama was last year and how how important it would be. I don't know how important it really is to wembin Yama or the
Spurs organization, but it might be. It's just a thought of mine that maybe the Pistons could pick up a future one by moving from five to eight, and the Spurs could go and they they could potentially get two of these top frenchmen, Zachary Orris Archer Hell, he could be number one, Alex sar Uh he could be two. And then who's the other one? Tid John Salon? Who you know, if you're looking you know, the odds, the odds makers have a Archer and sar the two Frenchmen you know,
going one two right now. But could one of those guys fall the forb easily? Easily it could happen. And then Salon who's looked at anywhere from I don't know ten around around that area. Well, you know, because of the there's not a lot of sure things as we take a look at this, very easily I could see it. That's that's my thought on the on the Pistons, the possibility of moving back and with the the spurs right
there now, if you do want to take a look at it. I also cranked out a bunch of different mock drafts yesterday and taking a look at it and from Yahoo to ESPN, to the Ringer, to Bleacher Report to the Athletic one, two, three, four, five different sources, four of them all have mocked drafted the Pistons to get the Lithuanian nineteen year old Bousellis Matthias Boucellis, Matthaeus Boussellus. So that's who the people that cover the
Pistons or even league wide, that's how they think it's going to fall. So boozellis the Lithuanian. I believe he just grew up in Chicago, though, but I've watched two three minutes of him playing for the G League Ignite last year, and he's rail thin, he's nineteen. He's not like this knockdown shoot or anything. But you know, that's that's the kind of draft that we're in. That's where it's at, and that's where the majority of
the experts think that he is going to fall to the Pistons. Now for me, and since I don't, you know, I watched two minutes of Boussellus, I watched a lot more of college basketball, so I would say, you know, if there was if Trajan Langdon he says, Hey, you know, you hadn't watched any of these French guys. You hadn't watched the Lithuanian. You watch two minutes of the guy from McKnight, but you've watched a couple of games of college basketball fifty and who do you pick?
I'd say, how about Reed Shepherd, the six' three knockdown shooter from the Kentucky Wildcats. How about him? That would be He's the guy that I am rooting for for the Pistons to take now. Is there anything that's intriguing with the draft? Trying to set it up for you here on Wednesday after the Pistons and where they might go. I think there's two names for me that I'll be watching. Will I be sitting there all night watching the
NBA Draft? Probably Zach Edy. Ronto Raptors don't have a first round pick, but Zach Edy, the big man, the two time player of the Year in college basketball from Purdue. He is Canadian. Toronto would do well by getting Eatie. If if I was in Canada right now, I'd be pounding the phone line. Let's get Zach Edie. Let's move up. How far they have to move up? That's the question. Last year at this time, if you talked about Zach Edy being a first round pick, and
he laughed at you don't know. You don't know basketball. He doesn't do any of the stuff that they're looking for in the NBA. He doesn't shoot from outside, he's got stone feet, he can't move. But he's answered that kind of criticism with how he performed last year, moved a little bit better, and then what he's been able to do in these workouts. He's moved himself into the first round. Take it from me. He'll go in the first round. I'm ninety nine percent sure that that's going to happen.
So Toronto's going to have to move up how far it's it's interesting and for me Edie, do I think he's going to take over the league? Would I take him in the lottery? No? But do I think he could be a ten minute impact player coming in at seven four, swat and shot, somebody that could command double teams, somebody that could develop. It looks
like, you know, he's a good free throw shooter. His jumper looks pretty good, you know, and sometimes when you're seven to four, you don't have to, you know, have a step back and you just have to knock him down. And he's got a pretty good looking stroke already. I could see that that could be more than the ten minute impact that I'm selling there. But he's going to go, So that's something to keep an
eye on. Then the other one is not something that I really latched onto at all in the spring, but as we get closer to wedness, it is something to keep an eye on. I guess they do a two day thing now for the first round. And second round, and that's Lebron James's son, Bronni. If another team would take them to try to screw with Lebron James, or if the Lakers actually are like you know, you know, JJ Reddick's coming in here and everything else. But will Lebronni James,
not Lebronni I'm sorry, Bronni actually go to the Lakers. And that's the intrigue for the second round. But that's the intrigue. That's where it's at, and that's how in what I'm looking at free agency. We'll get to that a little bit later. I've got some ideas in a move that I would like to see the Pistons make when it comes down, I've got a handful of players I think that they could take a run at, and that's
what I would like to see. But coming up next, I ask you to think about it and then call up your favorite Game seven or favorite Game seven moment. We will get to that straight ahead. Also coming up at seven eighteen, we'll talk with a Red Wings color analyst, Paul Woods here on Exis and Bros. And a Michigan Sports Network. country. Our window to play golf isn't very wide, is it. So when you get that opportunity to have that golf outing with your buddies like I have, and I treasure it. I mean, it's one of my favorite things to do. You want to find a place that is going to treat you right, be worth it, and accommodate you in more ways than just golf totally. More is that it's the experience that you would have of a golf outing lifetime. It is so prestigious, it is so beautiful. It
gives you two championship courses totally more and Saint Ives. It gives you a place to stay where you can relax, unwind, enjoy the scenery. It's luxurious and it's all affordable. It's as good as it gets just about an hour north of Grand Rapids, not even that depending on who's driving. But I mean it is a spectacular round of golf and a chance to unwind afterwards.
You've been to places right with your friends where you've played golf and it's been good, right, and then afterwards you're looking around and go, what are we going to you now? These accommodations aren't that great? We stayed here for the golf. You get both at Tullymore. Don't settle for anything less. You don't get an opportunity to do this very often, so when you do, go with the best. Go to Tullymore and you can go
to Tullymoregolf dot com to make your reservations. Today, what's up, Michigan. I want to give some love to Ben Glaze producing another great SHEP broadcast, Superflies Producer My show later today at three, The Huge Show on the Michigan Sports Network. It is x'es and Bros. Here on the Michigan Sports Network. I'm Dennis Fithian in for Matt Shepper. Happy to be here on a day that everyone is focused in on the Stanley Cup Finals and a Game
seven between the Florida Panthers and the Edmonton Oilers. This one so happens to not only be a Game seven, but also has the situation where the Oilers have forced a Game seven after being down three. So that gets you, really has your Is there such thing as a Game seven juices? Or history sports history juices flowing? This will do it? A lot of things come to mind. I put the question out there for you, though, and
it's really just for you to respond. It's a it's a fun question about game sevens as I ask you, what's your favorite that comes to mind or your favorite Game seven moment? Get in on that. I would enjoy hearing from you. Eight six six eight three eight forty eight forty three on the Meyer Hotline eight sixty six eight three eight forty three. We'll talk with the
Red Wings color analysts coming up in about fifteen minutes from right now. We'll get his thoughts on tonight's game, and then we'll look back in history as well, talking about this now discussed a lot about the Pistons last hour and coming up in an hour from right now, I am going to go back to it, and I will give you a move that I would like to see the Pistons make. Now if you're just joining us, I gave you two moves, one in the draft and one at head coach that I would
like to see. I've got an additional move, like to see the business making. I'll get to that coming up at eighth one. Now the Tigers, and I put this too open topics out there. If you've got your Game seven, your favorite one, or your favorite Game seven moment, you can jump in on that. But I put it out there for open topics. If there's something that you want to get to. There's a lot of little things that have happened, whether it's a golf or a college baseball or
a WNBA, whatever's tickle on your fancy. I invite you to get on in of those. I can handle that. I'd be excited to hear from you on any of that I mentioned the Tigers. The Tigers did get the victory yesterday as they pounded the White Sox eleven or two, and they're able to take two of three from Chicago. They're sitting there five games under five hundred, but they beat the Whites. They are the worst team in baseball,
the White Sox with twenty one wins. Now they bring in the team with the best record in baseball thirty more wins than the White Sox and the Phillies at twenty six. So the Tigers just took on the worst team in baseball. Now they invite in the best team in baseball. Let's see how they do against the Phillies who have that spectacular fifty one and twenty six sparkling fifty one and twenty six record. Now, as I thought about my favorite Game seven, the first thing I did is I had to ask myself,
have I ever been in person to a Game seven? And the answer to
that, I'm sorry, the answer to that is yes. And the first one I didn't look up the year, but it was the Pistons Going to Work club that ended up winning the title in eighty four, that went to six straight Eastern Conference of Finals and two straight NBA Finals and won the one in four the one year they were taken to a Game seven by the Jason kid led New Jersey nets and I was there, and what I remember about that game is that the Pistons blew them out and Jason Kidd was held scoreless
in the game, and the headline in the newspaper was net zero clever A rollicking time. It was a at the Palace back then. It was a era where the Detroit Pistons were the hottest ticket in town. The Palace was as loud as any building ever and it was all came out and enjoy there as they just put the hammer down and boat race the nets in that game. That's not my favorite one. I actually go to the ice for these Game sevens. I was at neither of them, but I was watching intently
on both of them. And I'm thinking that of the hundreds thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands that are listening right now, then almost everyone it's you have to be old enough to recall nineteen ninety six and two thousand and two. Those are are my game sevens that come to mind. Ninety six Steve Eiserman the captain of the Red Wings. The Wings were taking on the Blues. The Blues head Chris Pronger Wing Gretzky was on the Saint Louis Blues and they
went to a Game seven. It was the I'm just thinking I hadn't thought about that game in a while, and hearing I'm that Casey believe was the goalie, the netminder for Saint Louis. But Isierman scores the game winner in the game seven. Now, that was a double overtime game seven winner by the captain of the Red Wings. It doesn't get much better than that. Then. It doesn't get much better than a double overtime winner in a game
seven, does it. You're right, Yeah, I heard you talking to me the in my ear, I thought you said that that's that one was great. But you probably don't recall ninety six, though, do you a little bit? I was only nine years old, though, so yeah, that's oh well, you you know, that's right around the time you might remember. But also, that wasn't the top shelf goal, was it. I believe you know the line? Yeah, from just inside the blue line. I think he got it. I remember the call of you know,
Gretzky loses the park and here it was. I have been ripped at boom. Yeah, it was an awesome one. You said you had some text for us. We got a caller, a caller. Let's do it. It's Mark and gun Lake. Mark and gun Lake, welcome in. Hey, you're doing a great job today. How you doing. I'm doing great mark House things going around the west side of the state. There at beautiful gun Lake. Oh, it's beautiful over here today. So but I wanted to give you an idea. I I I talked to Shep about this a
few weeks back. There's a guy that I've been watching on some film or whatever you want to call it, DV or whatever, and uh Dalton Connect out of Tennessee. For the pistons, I think at five this guy can shoot them. We need some three point shooters, and this guy is a He's a good player. I don't know. Do you know anything about this this guy or not? Yeah? You know I Connect is a fascinating player. You know. He transfers from Tennessee. He hits the ground running,
he leads the sec and scoring. He looks like a dynamic scorer that he could bring that to the NBA. The only question I have on Connect is, you know, does he play any defense? I know, if he is a prolific scorer, that doesn't matter to me that much. If you know, you could you could play some defense. Uh, he's a first round pick for sure. Five seems a little high for him, but uh, you're right. The Pistons need a score, they need a shooter,
and Connect brings both of those. I'd like reached Shepherd a little bit more for Kentucky out of the SEC as well, Mark, because of the three point shooting. But I connect, if the Pistons moved like you've told me they moved, I was talking about moving to San Antonio or even moving a little bit later. Connect. I would be very happy with the Pistons delivering
a Dalton Connect to Detroit. I would love to see him because I think when they had Vinnie Johnson, when Dumers or Thomas got in foul trouble and Vinnie came in, he'd light it up. And I think this guy can do the same thing, so you know, or he could be a starter. But yeah, I just wanted to get your opinion on that. So but I hope you have a great day and great job on the show, and I'll talk to you again. Okay, Thanks Mark, Dalton Connect,

App all right, Dennis Fithian back here on X's and Bros. Across the state of Michigan on
the Michigan Sports Network. Let's bring in the color analyst of the Detroit Red Wings. Who joins us, That is Paul Woods. Paul, How you doing real good? Dennis? How you been? Oh, I'm doing pretty good. You know. It's great to hear your voice, you know. And I texted you. You said you were coming back from up north. I didn't know if that meant like way up and you know, towards the
North Pole or in the state of Michigan. Where are you at? Right in the middle of the state of Michigan, just west of Grailing on seventy two Ministee River goes through there. So I liked the offish over there. And the weather didn't cooperate this at time. So I've got to head back to Canada this morning or actually today, so I'm on my way back and actually I just I turned on the radio this morning and you were on the Grailing station, So I was listening on the way back. You're talking about
the basketball. Yeah, wgr why one on one point one up north? So, yeah, that's awesome that you were able to hear us out there on the road. Now, Paul, you've got this Game seven tonight, and I'm just going to serve it up really easy for you. Would you rather be Edmonton who is trying to do this reverse sweep? Or would you like to be the Panthers who have history on their side and they have the home ich? Would rather be Florida or Edmonton tonight? You know, I
like that term reverse sweep. That's good. But you know, Dennis, I think it's I don't know in hockey because of it. It's sudden death and overtime and stuff. I know. Usually just two great teams. And you know, no one thought Edamton would get down three nothing, and nobody thought they'd come back and win three in a row to bring it to Game seven. So there is two outstanding hockey teams and the level of play in the playoffs has been great as it was last year in the NHL. So
I'm going to pick the Panthers to win it. I don't think Edmonton can can do it for in a row. They've hurt Florida with the like the third line, the third and fourth line became much more competitive and productive and they're penalty killing. The special team's been better as well, but in Games four and five, Florida gave up a short handed goal and that's a kiss of death, Like you can't do that. So I think the Panthers will right the ship, that it will be a close game, maybe overtime,
but I'm picking Florida. Yeah, you look at the oiler side and they've I don't know how much momentum is gonna matter, you know, Connor McDavid in company, they've got a combined score of eighteen to five and route to you know, tying this thing up. The history is the thing. I wonder how much you believe that this plays into it? First, just about being down oh three, because three there's been two hundred and ten teams.
You've got four comeback winners, just one though in the finals sid Ables forty two team went down. I mean, how much of that does the history just being down three play into this in your mind? Well, my mind the good Dennis player, like it's it's just it's just the game we're playing that counts. Like what happened in the past has got no bearing than us. It's it's different players, a different time, different era. So No, it's just this moment right in there now, and you know, and
that's the thing. If we can come out and play our best game and again. But Brosky was outstanding in the first three games and not so good in the last three games. So if he gets back the way he was playing in the first three, then they have a chance to win. But Stuart Skinner has been good and he's been probably a little bit better than expected. And I think on the Edmonton side too, it's it's become more of a balance attack and I think that's helped. And Connor McDavid is really like
he's got the NHL record now for assists in a single playoff season. But his game he's become, in my mind now totally selfless. Like for him before it seemed to me like he seemed like he felt like he had to score and and just continually trying to score. Where now he involving his teammates. And I think it's forty two assists I think he's up to now and he didn't have anything in game in Game six, but they still won.
But he's changed his game. He's no longer just a score He's just doing everything he possibly can to win, and I think that's the maturity of a great young player. The former Red Wings captain Paul Woods, we're talking about
the Panthers and Oilers. The Oilers trying to become just the third team in NHL history to come back and you know they they they are the third team in NHL history to even just tie it up at three games apiece, and they're trying to become the first team since the Leafs in forty two to complete
it. Paul, I hear you on the history. I remember when the Red Wings were trying to go back to back in eight and nine, and in that Game seven, I'm looking at all the notes and it says that home ice isn't important in the playoffs until the game seven, and then they had the numbers there, and then it said that home ice isn't important into game seven until a game seven and then really in the Stanley Cup Finals, you know the stats, and I know you just said throw all the stats
out the window, but how about the the the home ice and the numbers that that favor And of course you know the Penguins won that game, so you know all of that being said there it is, Yeah, yeah, I remember I can still I can still picture Mark Andreck Fleury is sliding across
and making that stay very late on in regulation against nick Lesram. I mean, we could easily have and you know, really it's funny but that we should have won that series against the Pittsburgh peng Loins, like we totally out to play them, but Fleury was great in a goal and they just found a way to hang on. But uh, we should have won both those series. You did win one, but should have won them both in my mind against Pittsford. But but back to the question again, like I I
just uh, I believe, I believe in the moment. I just believe you're in the moment. It's it's these certain guys. You look around the room, it's against them, and again it's it's great stories on both sides. I mean, and really that strength of the Florida Panther team was that they got so much production from their their third line, Anton Lundell and this
Looseter Ryan and a couple of finish ship players. They just are really blow the radar like very important players for the Florida Panthers, but they haven't been as important and those guys need to pick it back up. But you just got to, you know, get out there and get going and and get started. But again, Edmonton, it's just it's it's a great story.
That third line now with Adam Henry has been outstanding. Kelly Ironcroft, the former Red Wing farm hand, he's been a Graham matter line and and that group has really helped out now and Connor Brown, a guy scored two goals in the regular season all of a sudden, now it's become a weapon before Chris Nablock the head coach of Edmonton. So it's going to be a battle. Like both teams have lots of positives and I can see each team winning. But again, I just got a funny feeling about of Florida. I
think they're going to find a way tonight. Okay, I know you just said all about State in the moment and everything, but I was looking at the first goal. You know, both in game five in Game six, Edmonton's gets out to a three to nothing lead. They of course when they won that eight to one game in game four, you know, they scored
the first goal there. So is the first goal? Are you still going to feel good about Florida being able to win this if Edmonton scores the first goal, yeah, to me, like, it's sixty minutes tennis, Like you know, it's yeah, sometimes you're ahead and sometimes you're behind, and you know, it's just so many different variables can happen. But again, I think I think Florida outshot the Edmonton in Game six, So again that's a that's a good sign as well. But they're they're actually controlling more of
the game. So again, like I said, it could go the other way, and I mean it's going to be a fine, fine line and it might get to overtime. I mean, it's just the thing I just really you know, want to point out two is about that that hockey is the only sport where where there actually is death, like just one goal, one shot and it's over, and you know, other sports and stuff, you have a chance come back and tie it up. You know, in
basketball it's an overtime period, it's not sudden death. You know baseball again, and you know you have your bottom part of the inning or you're part chance to tie it up in the same in football, you know, but hockey is the only one where just one shot, one play can end the game and end your season. So the pressure will beyond But you know, people live for these moments. They be given these kinds of games and stuff. So for I think for the fans and people watching, it's a little
bit nerve wracking, but for the players, it's exciting. Well, Paul couldn't get you out of here without asking you about the Red Wings. You know, you were talking about some of the depth on these teams. I look at Florida, A guy like Sam Bennett number nine, I've really enjoyed watching him play. Evan Rodriguez brings a lot to the table. These are
not household names. I mean, everybody's talking about you know what good reason Markoff and ver Hagy and on down the line, could Chalk and all the big names that and even Tara Cinco who they had as a free agent. But it's these other guys. What about the Red Wings? I mean, do you feel like that how far are the Red Wings away from getting into
the postseason and maybe make it a little run. Well, you know, I think we should have made the playoffs last year and we tied with Washington and they won a tiebreaker, and you know, I'm a now a believer that we should have a play in game I don't think any team should. When you play any two games and you're tied in a number of points, both teams should be a one game playoff and the team it would have had the tiebreaker, they get whole mice in that game. But to me,
I just wasn't right. I mean, the way they worked, how hard they played, the way they bowt in those last games that get to the point they're tied, and to lose it on a tiebreaker, I just don't think is right. But I think the Red Wings, again, like every year, they keep getting better. Last year's team, if they'd played the previous years, that team, they don't want a playoff series in four consecutive games. We're that much better. So we're better defensively, we're much deeper
upfront. We've got six unrestricted to preationents, one go won defenseman, four forwards, so again we've got to figure that into it. But there's lots of free agents out there, so that starts July first. The draft I think is June twenty eighth, so that's coming up, so it's going to be a busy week. But I expect the Red Wings to be aggressive in the free agency, and again They're going to keep improving this team, and they've got to do it now because Ottawa got better in the offseason already,
Buffalo is going to get to better. New Jersey's already better. They picked up a goaltender on the Calgary playing so Eastern Conference teams that all want to make the playoffs, so it will be more difficult than it was last year to make the playoffs. But again, I think the Wings are definitely heading in the right direction and we'll make the playoffs next year. Hey Paul,
it was great talking with you. Can't wait, I mean a season ends tonight, but we'll we'd be looking forward to when the season starts with you behind the mic. If you're not recalling your favorite Game seven or your favorite Game seven moment, wherever you're at also looking for your move that the Red Wings could make a move, that the Red Wings could make your favorite Game seven or
Game seven moment. That's what we have for you on the plate right here. But we do have open topics, So if you wanted to go somewhere else, go ahead eight six six eight three eight forty eight forty three on the Meyer hot Line again eight six six eight three eight forty eight forty three. You could text Sports Radio to twenty one thousand Sports Radio all one word to get in on any of that coming up at eight oh one, a move you would like to see the Pistons make. You know, you've got
all of this going on. You know, we just talked with Paul Woods, not only after tonight's game. With the NHL season ending, you have free agency that starts a week from today in the NHL, and you also have the NHL Draft. Meanwhile, on the basketball side, the Celtics last week win the championship and you've got the NBA Draft on Wednesday, and then Sunday you've got free agency in the NBA. So a lot of teams,
a lot of pieces to move around. If you're telling me that a champion could be made this week by the via trade, a draft, a free agency, that's kind of how it's done. So yeah, I believe the shrewd the big time move. Like who thought, I don't know, going back to the last year, you know, the Oilers they pick up Zach Hyman and he goes out. Nobody was predicting that that guy who was going
to score fifty four goals? Were they hoping for twenty thirty maybe, but you know, fifty four and he's leading the Stanley Cup playoffs in goals as well. The greatest Connor McDavid as men Hymen has been awesome as well, the former Michigan Wolverine in Zach Hyman. So I don't know Game seven's I gave you one. It was a moment. My favorite Game seven moment was double overtime Steve Eiserman against the Blues back in ninety six for my favorite game.
Why that is not my favorite game is that the Red Wings in ninety six did not go on to win the Stanley Cup. If they did that, that goal becomes validated and even bigger as it is, it was a pretty big goal. But I will go to two thousand and two for my favorite game set and it was really a the anticipation that led up to it and then how the game unfolded. It was all magical. You know that it's a that it's great when you don't have to go and look many things
up about a particular game. Moments are there for you. You know, the the Isserman goal in double overtime. But the O two Red Wings Avs game was the culmination of the seven year war between the two teams, and in my mind, you know, for that seven years, I don't know, I can't think of a better rivalry between two teams in all of sports. It was a it was a great time you had from ninety six to oh two, these uh, these two teams met five times, they combined
for five Cups. And so the game seven, the Wings had won two times, the Avs had won two times. Whoever was going to win this one? You know if who won the Wings Ab rivalry, well it was going to come down to this Game seven in two thousand and two, and he almost felt like, for sure, whoever wins it would go on to win the Stanley Cup finals. Of course that's what happened. The Red Wings won it, and then they won the Stanley Cup Finals. And then you
also just looked the finals are the big deal. But sometimes the two best teams are in the same conference. And this is what it was with the Wings and the Abs. I mean, the Wings beat the Flyers, they sweep them. The Wings beat the Capitals, they sweapd them to but it was about getting by Colorado. And so you know that whole seven years, every game. I went to a number of those games. But also I can recall going to a lot of parties my friends just all getting together and
watching the Red Wings and the Avalanche. Whatever we're doing, whether it was somebody's house or wherever we're at. I kind of remember playing, Ah, I don't know if it was called a Gus Mackerbeck then a basketball tournament in Grand Rapids, but we all were able to get to a restaurant and watch the Red Wings and Aves in one of those playoff games. But you know, that was a seven nothing Red Wings victory over the over the Avs.
But it couldn't have been any better. I actually, if you're asking me to draw it up, even looking back, would you say, would you rather have had a you know, a four to three overtime victory against the Avs? Not this time? Most of the times I would say, yeah, give me all the drama, especially you know, of course maybe for sure if the you can guarantee me a win. But the Red Wings scored and they're like the opening minutes, I like it was homestrm actually against the
against the Avs. They scored again in the first period, you know, but you never you know, you're thinking, ah, it feels good, but then they're you know, they're up three to four. They get a statue of liberty goal that was a great moment. If you were looking for a Game seven moment, they were Patrick Waugh. He kind of looked like he was, I don't know what he was doing, and like they broke
him. He lifted up his glove. I mean, maybe the greatest goaltender of all time, and you know he lifts up his glove for this, uh statue of liberty goal and you know, the Red Wings are up and then they go on. But with each goal, I mean, the party and the excitement, it was like winning the Stanley Cup. With the you were that much closer with every goal, and it was like the celebration started.
It was like a parade, a coronation. We know they still had work to do and everything else, but I was at a bar for that game and the entire time, you know, the first minute or two, you know, it's it's as tense as you can get. But the the release of joy and celebration throughout that game, it was it was just a you know, a party unlike any other. And you know every game takes
on them in a different form and different shape. And if they're close and you're coming back, like Paul Woods was talking about last segment, you know you get to this die sudden death type situation where when it gets to that kind of situation, every time the puck goes into, it goes over the
blue line. You're in. You know, you can't do this in every game that you watch, like just hold your breath and look at every single play with you know like, oh my gosh, this is either gonna be this is gonna be the one to score, this is gonna be the one
to go against. You can't think about that every time, as you know, just somebody that's watching it, but you sure do when it comes down to a Game seven type situation or if it's coming down to an overtime situation, every time the puck goes in, you're thinking, this is it, this is something's gonna happen here, and you know you're you're hoping that.
You know, you see so many times the deflections and uh, that would be the one thing if you're if I'm if I'm drawing something up tonight and I want the Panthers to win, I'll tell you why in a moment, But I really want the Panthers to win. But I would like to see a close game where it comes down with somebody scores a fabulous goal to win it. Yeah, you want to take them into overtime and you know, tell me, you know, McDavid goes through a bunch of Panthers and scores
this miraculous goal. Yeah, that'd be great. I think the same thing for the Panthers, you know, but score a great goal. I don't want a power play where the blast comes in, it's deflected and then the you know, the goaltender has no chance. It ricochets off of their own player. You know, one of those goals. I want to clean highlight, super sweet goal. Now. I want the Panthers to win because I bet them into the in the Stanley Cup finals, and I have not had
a good run here in the Stanley Cup playoffs. I'll just give you my I've had a ton of fun with with the playoffs over the years. I have about fifteen of my friends. For at least thirty years, we've had a a pool that we run for the playoffs. So we've taken a few years off here and there, but for the most part, for for the you know, better part of thirty years, we've had it's kind of a
fantasy, you know, pick a player type situation. Well, anyways, this year, I didn't know it, but only four of us got in. But I picked all of these Panthers players, and I picked, you know, three oilers. And the fun part for me is that I don't look at what my opponent is doing. And I found that I have much more fun doing it that way, just thinking about my team and if they
get there. But I did not. It was not very smart handicapping because I did a a a bet when I got even though I just said I took the Panthers, I hedged, and because I thought if the Panthers got to the finals, that I was going to win this pool no matter what. I had picked all these pans, there's players. I already said how many oilers I had, so I hedged, and then you know bet the
Rangers, thinking oh, well, at least I'll win this. Well that's not the smart handicapping part was is that if you're going to hedge, you should be looking at all of your odds and everything there. And I did not look at what my opponents were doing. My friend picked better than me. I think there could have been one hundred people in this pool, and my friend would have I mean he picked every player that you could think of
the perfect. He had the perfect lineup against me, and so I lost that even before I got into the finals, and so the heading into the finals, I'd watched all these like, I really liked the Panthers, and I had never felt smarter, even though it was a bad move, hedging when I wasn't looking at all the details. But I had never been felt smarter than taking the Panthers. After game one, after game two, after game three, I've got my chest and I'm thinking, you know, I've
got this. This this gambling. I'm pretty good at it. You know, forget the uh, forget the daily lineup, forget the fantasy is talking about straight up handicaping. I'm picking the winner. I'm doing pretty good. But then with each loss here eight one, you know, look at the Mavericks in it. But oh bo, but after game five, the collar on myself was really tightening. And then this last game, of course, do either score first? Of course, you know, forget up to nothing
and the Panthers fought back a little bit. So a little bit, but I have all of that history on my side. Do I have a ninety eight chance? Looking at history? I do it's even more of that if I, you know, of zero went out of being the Stanley Cup Finals with a Panther's winning. But you know, I'm gonna tell you, I don't feel like I have a ninety nine percent chance of cashing my ticket tonight. I don't even know if I feel like I have a fifty percent.
I feel like I have a you know, I definitely feel like I have a forty percent. I feel like I have a forty five percent chance, and I feel like whoever scores that first goal. If it is Florida, I'm gonna feel like I got a you know, then above fifty percent chance. But if it's the Oilers, let's score first tonight. Just remember it'll be Dennis Fifthigen who's sitting back saying he thinks he doesn't have any chance to
win this now. So that's gonna be the added drama. But for me, I always try to remember that I'm never gonna win a whole lot, never gonna lose a whole lot either, because I don't put that much down on it. But man, what a roller coaster. These Stanley Cup playoffs have been very exciting, a lot of fun and also educational for me and hopefully for you when I'm telling you about my handicapping experience. There, don't head your bet and lets you know all the numbers, or at least you
know get you get the most information that you can. Certainly take a look at it if you feel like you're ready to clinch something, and if you've got it, how about backing that up with actually looking at it. I'm telling myself that now very easy to say now after the fact. That's how it goes when it comes down to it. All right, So we've got the question of the day right now, and it's out there for you. I have given you both my moment and my favorite game. Seven two Wings
abs seven nothing Red Wings in two thousand and two. My favorite moment the ninety six Red Wings Steveman blasting that shot from just over the right side of the blue line after Gretzky gave up the puck at double overtime, Red Wings win it. There's my moment, there's my game. Also, looking for a move that you want to see the Red Wings make? Now, do I think that the Red Wings are going to sign one of the top tier
like so you look and you think, all right? Free agency Sam Reinhardt plays for Florida, a right winger who is one of the top free agents that is out there. Is he scored fifty seven goals this year. Is are the Detroit Red Wings ready to throw everything they have at Reinhart? I doubt it. I don't feel like that. I was looking at some of the salaries on the Panthers and like Barkoff gets ten million dollars a year, could Chuck almost gets ten million dollars a year. They don't have any I's
gonna say any tax, whether a tax free state. That helps. Plus they're winning. And I don't know. I don't know Reinhardt, but being down in South Florida, you know that that weather that is also an attraction. But I don't know how much money. I mean, if he's looking for every single nickel that he can, he'll probably have to leave Florida. But he's having a great contract year, that's for sure. Also someone who's had a great contract year was Jake Getzel, who ended up with Carolina at
an offseason ankle injury. But he's a dangerous winger. He could also be someone that you're thinking about could really go ahead and and and really cash it. But you're gonna have to give up a boat load. But Carolina they were willing to cough up a bunch to get him at the deadline, so you would think that they would be ready to match any suitors. I don't know. There's others, big names, Stammer, Steven stampcost probably the biggest
name, a little bit older, but he was disappointed. Stamp cooast was that he didn't get that extension. A big name, a little bit older, gonna be big money that doesn't really look like I mean, Eisaman was what Tampa? Does that matter? I don't know. There's some of them. There's some of the potential moves that didn't give you the move that I wanted to see the Red Wings make. You can get in on that, a move that you'd like to see the pit make. We've got that combination
for you coming up here straight ahead. Are we going to go to the text at You can text sports radio to twenty one thousand, you can call in eight sixty six, eight three, eight forty eight forty three. That is all available for you. We'll look at both moves coming in at at eight oh one, Ben, what are we doing here? Your favorite move? Or your move for the Red Wings right, yes, yes, you have one? Or you have your favorite game seven? Yeah I do.
We can talk about that in the next segment. We will get to Ben's favorite straight ahead. Here in the eight o'clock hour on Exus and Bros. And the Michigan Sports Network. What's up in Michigan. is the most crazed golf state in the country. Our window to play golf isn't very wide, is it. So when you get that opportunity to have that golf outing with your buddies like I have, and I treasure it. I mean, it's one of my favorite things to do. You want to find a place that is going to treat you right, be worth it, and accommodate you in more ways than just Tullymore is that it's the experience that you would have of a golf outing lifetime. It is so prestigious, it
is so beautiful. It gives you two championship courses, totally Moore and Saint Ives. It gives you a place to stay where you can relax, unwind, enjoy the scenery. It's luxurious and it's all affordable. It's as good as it gets just about an hour north of Grand Rapids, not even that depending on who's driving. But I mean it is a spectacular round of golf
and a chance to unwind afterwards. You've been to places right with your friends where you have played golf and it's been good, right, and then afterwards you're looking around and going, what are we gonna do now? These accommodations aren't that great? We stayed here for the golf. You get both at Tullymore. Don't settle for anything less. You don't get an opportunity to do

There's no sense of asking me things about the game. I'm telling you we laid an egg. So I'm not going to break it down for you. He sucks, He sucks, laid an egg. That's all I have to say. Guys, I'm sorry. I'm not going to break it down for you. Nothing went well for us. It's on us. We
have to figure it out, and we will. It's yo, Dad, Yeah, good morning. A little bit after eight o'clock. You're on X's and Rows on the Michigan Sports Network and I'm out here Dennis fitting and in Formatt Sheppard this morning. Ben Zost is here. We're taking your calls. It is one of those times on the sports calendar. You've got the end of the NHL season that will take place tonight with the Game seven between the
Oilers and Panthers. You are not a sports fan if you're excited about the prospects of a Game seven, adding in that the Oilers were down three, if you're not a hockey fan, it does at least give you a jumping off point to recall in sports history your team when they were in a situation of a Game seven. And it's one of the things that we're asking you this morning your favorite Game seven or your favorite Game seven moment that is out
there for you that we like to hear from you. On eight sixty six eight three, eight forty eight forty three on the Mayer Hotline, you can text sports Radio to twenty one thousand. Make sure you use sports radio all one word, and you'll have the ability to send us a text to get in that way. It is the last night of the NHL season. But then you have the NHL Draft later this week, and then you have NHL
free agency. It's the same thing on the side of the NBA. The draft, excuse me, is on Wednesday, and then you have free agency that will be later on Sunday. I believe it starts Monday for the NHL. Technically Sunday for the NBA. But as you know, if you have paid attention to this kind of situation in years past, the names and signings come out prior to the weekend. So with that, I'm asking you, in addition to the favorite Game seven or Game seven moment, a move you
would like to see the Pistons or Red Wings make. Now I go back and the move I would like. I've got a number of moves for the Pistons. I think the Pistons I would like to see Borrego be hired as the head coach today. He's been through with Popovich when he won a couple championships as a Spurs assistant. He was down there in New Orleans as their associate head coach. He's ready to be a head coach. He's got the connection with Lange, then let's see him deliver Brego as the new Pistons head
coach. How important is the head coach? Well, you know, when you see a team that goes from the very bottom where they're at, that can grow together, it can be very important, So very important to land the right guy. That's the coach that I would like to see them higher. Now when it comes to the draft on Wednesday, I would like to see the Pistons move back and pick up a first rounder from the Spurs. The Spurs are sitting there at both number four and eight, the Pistons at
number five. I believe that the Spurs want to get two of these frenchmen and get a real French connection going down there in San Antonio. They got riz Archer, Sar and Salon as three picks that could be going, and two of those guys probably be going in the top five. Salon is a Solon is more of a wild card. But I could see the Spurs wanting to pick up two of those frenchmen and really add that with Wemby so get and you have to have some protection on it, for sure, some lottery
protection. But I would like to see that from the Pistons, and they have them moved down, So that's the number one thing. If they sat right there and read Shepherd from Kentucky was still on the board, that would be my selection. When I look across at the mock drafts for the Detroit Pistons, almost all of them have the Pistons taken the Lithuanian Matteas and boozellis
boozellis, So we'll see what they're able to come away with there. Now for the Red Wings, and again you can call us, you can text this I mentioned, you can also tweet at us at XB Mornings and at Dennis Fithian, and Terry has done exactly that. He is saying that he did not like Paul Wood's idea for a play in game because he says no need for a play in game. The Detroit Red Wings needed one more point two regular season losses to the Coyotes down the stretch crippled them. They left
too many points on the table. They did leave too many points on the table. I had not considered a play in game but for of the teams being tied there at the end. But I do have to admit the NBA. I didn't like their idea of a play in game either. I mean, you got half the teams in the playoffs anyways in the NHL. In NBA, meanwhile, the play in game I like. I have liked the play in game in the NBA, and if it works in the NBA, well why not. I'm not even talking about if they're tied. I'm just
talking about get a playing game in the NHL anyways. The counter in the NHL would be like NBA rarely, although you know we had the Miami Heat going to the finals last year, it happens much more often in the NHL. So even could a ten seed go all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals, you would have a lot more statistically, I guess historically you would have that chance than in the NBA. So I you know, it's just something I hadn't thought about, but I am thinking about it now. So
there you go. All right, So the table loaded for you for the moves for the Pistons and the wings. Free agency for the Pistons. You know, would I like to see them make a big splash? Yes, I would, and I think, but at the same time I also have to be you know, kind of realistic. But could the Pistons throw a ton of money at og and an Obi and or Damar DeRozan, Yes, they could. Those are the the Tier one big swings that I would like
to see from Trajan Langdon. The Knicks don't want Anonobi going anywhere, and Derosan is the Pistons are rarely a free agent destination. So but they do have the money. I got sixty mili around there in cap space, so they can float out a gigantic number. But those the Tier one. After that, you're getting to a situation where you need to there's a controversial I don't know. Miles Bridges played at Michigan State, so he's a local product
the high school in Michigan two. I think he ended up most of the good players end up, you know, going out of state. But you know he's from the state of talking about high school for Bridges, but he's got multiple domestic violent situations against him that and really just in the last couple of years. So you know, that's a big deal. That's a big swing, that's a big risk. That is something that gets you fired.
You know, the Pistons are the in the worst situation, one of the you know bottom three situations with the roster and everything, and now you're taking a gigantic gamble and give it a ton of money out a guy who's got a you know, multiple issues in the past couple of years. That would be a huge gamble, but one maybe that they could make if you're the Pistons, But you know, Langdon could be out before it even starts. Things go sideways with that. But the moves that Tier one An andob DeRozan
throw all your money that way. Let's let's let's try that one. I give you a wings move. Looking for your Game seven's moments or your just favorite Game seven in its entirety eight six six, eight three eight forty eight forty three. That's the number. Here are on Nexis and Bros. And the Michigan Sports Network in the DN with Dan Dickerson, Hey, Tiger's fans.

Sure, he has big pay rules, but Dombrowski has a gift and incredible ability for identifying winning players, guys who help bring all the pieces together make everybody better. He identifies them and then goes and gets them in a trade or signs them
in free agency. Dave Dombrowski knows what the makeup of a championship team looks like, and there's no one better in the game. Right now, imagine this winning, big and soaring eagle. Coming up at eight thirty five, should the Tigers trade Derek Scooble,
who else would they trade? We'll hit on that coming up this hour. Right now, We've got a couple of things for you. We're looking at Game Seven's your favorite Game seven, your favorite Game seven moment? And with both the draft and free agency playing out this week in the NHL and NBA, we're looking for a move you would like to see from the Wings or the Pistons eight six six eight three eight forty eight forty three on the Meyer
Hotline. That's eight sixty six eight three eight forty eight forty three. We have I have the text available for you Text Sports Radio all one word to twenty one thousand. You can get in that way. We're also available on Twitter as well, if you'd like to connect with us, and we'd like to see you connect with us. You tweet at XB mornings. I'm on Twitter at Dennis Fifthy and you can get it done that way. Now I have given you both a moment and my favorite game seven. Both of them
are coming from the Red Wings in ninety six. My moment was the Eiserman double overtime winner and inn O two was the Wings Avs Wings winning that game seven nothing to win the seven year war by taking down the Abs, who they met five times over that seven years, by a total of three playoff
wins to the Avs two. And what a great time it was to watch the game now, that overtime winner from Eisam And I can recall being a board op in radio, and now you know, you know, Ben probably has all the different you know tech me age to be able to record the television. He just you know, lifts up a pot and you know he he's able to record that probably digitally right in there that you could cut up that sound. Back in ninety six, that's not the way it was working
at the radio station that I was at. I had to crank up the mic stand all the way up to this TV that sat on the stack of radio stuff, so I had to crank the microphone and I put it right on the speaker of the TV and then turn the TV up. That's how I was getting the audio, and I always liked to play that audio a lot of the Winner I might have had CBCN I think so was it Bob Cole who recently passed away, the great Bob Cole cars whatever it was,
I believe that is how it went down. You know, I haven't thought about it for thirty years, but not quite thirty years, but no, I guess it is. So. The thing is that if you really listen to that odio, you can hear me actually yelling in the background, and I always like that one. All right, So we're looking for your favorite Game seven or favorite Game seven moments and a move you'd like to see the Wings or the Pistons make. I've gone through a number of moves for the
Pistons. I want to see Brego as their head coach. I would like to see them trade back with the Spurs, who are going to want to get two of these three frenchmen and pick up a first round pick if they stay where they're at. I'd like Reed Shepherd. But I do give all of the mock drafters a nod, who say take the Lithuanian Bussellis. I've watched two minutes of Bussellus, and I've watched a couple of games from Read
Shepherd. But the thing I like about Shepherd is that he shoots fifty percent from downtown, and I want to see the Pistons be able to knock down some shots from three point land. The team that took the most three point shots of this year in the NBA, the Boston Celtics. The team that made the most three point shots in the NBA this year, the Boston Celtics. The way the league is, you need to be able to hoist a bunch and you need to be able to knock him down. What does Shepherd
do? He is a dead eyed shooter from downtown. That's my reasoning and why I like Read Shepherd. He seems to have moved up. I was looking at maybe a month or two ago, the draft, and Shepherd wasn't being looked at as a top five player. He is now, so he might not even be there for the Pistons, but it's in a spot that he's around where he's gonna go, and I like what he brings to the table, and he definitely is bringing something that the Pistons need in three point
shooting. That's my reasoning there. Now the free agent side'd like one of the Tier one guys at least in my mind that are achievable for the Pistons and Anenobi or DeRozan for the Red Wings. When I think about what I want to see from them, I would like to see, you know, I would like to see Patrick Kane be resigned. Now we understand about the money situation, and you know, he's gonna go wherever. Like most of
the players, they're gonna get the most. But even though that the Wings need to get if it was going to be it's hard to give it like a blanket statement, but if I was going to the Wings needed to get bigger and better on defense and not necessarily on the blue line. They needed like so, Lucas Raymond is, you know, five ten, five eleven as a left winger. To brink it is diminutive at the right wing.
He's five eight. Now Patrick Kane is thirty five years old and he's five to ten, So that really goes against what I'm saying, but I'd liked King so much last year in a Red Wings uniform. He brought the most excitement to the team. I would like to see them a sign Patrick Kane and then they need to go out there and Iserman knows this they need to find I guess you don't have to be you know, six two, but you need to be better defensively, even as a forward that this team is
looking for. So that's my thought on a move that I would like to see the Red Wings make. When it comes down to it, Isaman seems that he's knows what he's doing draft wise, even though he doesn't get the kind of picks that you would have liked over the past couple of years, he has gone up if Iaman, whatever the mark drafts say, I'll bet
that Iserman goes somewhere different than what all the other experts think. That would be my prediction on what will happen with Wings with the Red Wings anyways. So yeah, my favorite Game sevens for the moment and game are both from the Red Wings. But if I had to go back, and I think I was just thinking of this, well, have the Tigers played any memorable Game sevens? And the answer is yes, but it's been a long time since they have done that. Now, they had the Divisional Series, which
was just five games, so it was like a game seven. I can recall, you know, Verlander pitching against the A's, and I think he had to do it twice in two game fives. I think he pitched against It wasn't its sunny Gray and Verlander in both of those games in twenty thirteen and in twenty twelve in the divisional series, I think so. So those are game sevens, but technically not game sevens. So I go back if
I am going to game seven's. No, I'm not going all the way back to nineteen oh nine or forty five when the Tigers did win in a game seven, and but I will go to nineteen sixty eight. Nineteen sixty eight, the Tigers in a game seven, pretty memorable. It's before my time, but I feel like I can recite chapter in Verse about the sixty
eight World Series and what went on there. Now, speaking of baseball, so the Tigers trade Derek Schouble. I will give you that answer, my answer straight ahead, and we'll continue taking your calls and reading your text. Then it's been the an in for Matt Sheppard this morning on Exis and Bros. be with you and we get a lot of good topics for you. I said it. Going to talk about trek Scougle, and should the Tigers trade their southpaw Ace away and others one of the things that we're hitting on this morning. My answer is no. I'll get to the reason coming up here. You can weigh in on that. We also are asking you about your favorite Game seven or favorite Game seven moment. Panthers Anders playing in a Game
seven tonight. You may have heard also in the NHL and the NBA they both have their drafts this week, and they both have free agency at the end of this week. So and Pistons need a new head coach and they've got the number five pick. So asking you about the moves that you want to see these teams make. A move you would like to see the Red Wings and or Pistons make. That's out there in addition to the Game seven
question. So you can put it in on feedback by texting Sports Radio to twenty one thousand, or you can give us a call eight sixty six eight three, eight forty eight forty eight forty three. That's the Meyer hotline. Now when it comes to Terrek Scoubele, so the Tigers are out of it, and they would fetch a ton of prospects. It would be a bolt load of high tier prospects, schoolbuls under control. He's twenty seven years old,
He's flashed greatness all of these teams. You do a quick search on MLB rumors or MLB trades, there's a lot of sites that are committed to such things and you see Schooble's name pop it up everywhere. You see all the different fan sites for the different teams. The Braves, here's the package that I've seen the Braves, I've seen the Yankees. Teams are very interested obviously in adding a front line starter. You want to say he is a one, however, you know he fits in with the Braves or with the
Yankees. He's a frontline starter, and he's the kind of guy that could push you over the top and when World Series. So these teams are going to put together a treasure trave of prospects to fork over for the Tigers. Now, I never say never if somebody's sitting there and uh, I've got what I think, will you know would be a fair and somebody's then goes
over the top on me. Okay, But in theory, as I'm sitting here with schoobl I understand the other side of the equation, like you want to get everybody coming up together, and the Tigers are, you know, three or four years away. You know, I get that part. I also get the part that you have a twenty seven year old ace and I'm looking at Schooble being a front end. If you don't want to say he's going to be the number one for eight years, I feel like he can
be a legitimate frontline starter for the Tigers for eight years. So he's thirty five years old, and yeah, you're gonna have to give them at some point a boatload of money. Maybe they could buy them out and so those arbitration years and get them at a lower number for Florida, whatever it is.
I would like to keep the most valuable commodity in baseball in a Southpaw to boot on a team that doesn't have anything else really to you know, I shouldn't say that they've got a couple other things, let's be fair. Riley Green's a nice piece, but schoolball, no the Tigers, and nobody's anticipating them, even if they were gonna spend a bunch of money competing out of nowhere next year. But I gotta believe that an organization. You know
you used to say the five year plan. I don't know, Scott Harris. Are are we really looking at a five year plan from Harris, who's in his second full season. Well, even if I went that way three more years, Schoolbol is going to be thirty years old in this five year plan for Scott Harris, I gotta believe that he is going to be one of the better pitchers, if not the best pitcher in baseball. He's going
to be on your team thirty years old and a five year plan. I want an eighth I understand that he's going to cost money, so I want to keep Trek's scooble in Motown, and I don't want to trade him unless I am knocked over with the prospect hall of one of these teams are going to put together like the Braves or the Yankees. What do you think about that? Eight sixty six, eight three, eight forty eight forty three on the Meyer Hotline, I go back to these game sevens, and my favorite
are the Red Wings. If I was old enough, I would say the Tigers. In nineteen sixty eight, the Tigers were down three games to one to the Saint Louis Cardinals. I would imagine that the talk shows and Twitter was blowing up in sixty eight about the Tigers blowing it. They would not after one hundred win season, win the World Series. They would lose it to Bob Gibson in the Cardinals. But the Tigers ripped off three in a row. Danny not Denny McClain of it'll come to me, it comes back,
and the Tigers are able to win the sixty eight World Series. You know, it doesn't qualify because they weren't down three, but they definitely would classify as a great comeback being down three games to one and beating Bob Gibbs and Mickey Lolich, thank you. It was the the MVP, and it pitched. It's an amazing it's an amazing feat. How many games he pitched, the amount of innings that he threw, the amount of rest that he had. It's really one of the great feats in all of baseball what Mickey
Lolich was was able to do for the Tigers. McLean won thirty one games in the regular season, but it was Lolich in the World Series that was able to, uh, you know, to get that done with them coming back like that, So that would be the one for the Tigers. It's a pretty rich history when you think about the Pistons, but you just have to be old enough to go back. The'se going to work Pistons In four
they they had a a a run of six straight Eastern Conference Finals. And part of their going to work they were the some was better than the individual parts. They played as a team. I'm talking about this four Pistons era they had. Didn't they have four players go to the All Star Game? And the All Star Game, you know, even back then, was a complete joke. And they put four Pistons out there on the floor with Paul Pierce, and they made this huge run by playing as a team even in
the All Star Game. It was just such an aberration, but Piston fans loved it. It was you know, they had their hard hats on. It was all of that. But one of the things that I recall about the going to work Pistons is that if Chauncey Billups would say it, because they would put themselves in a really peculiar situation or peculiar situations in series where they would get down three games to two and have to go on the road and win a New Jersey, they would get down three games to one and
have to come back and win the series. And Chauncey after one of those series said, Chauncey, how do you explain this team when your backs are against the wall, that you guys play your best basketball when everybody has you count it out? And what did he say? If it ain't rough, it ain't right. Pistons could have won back to back, but they lost in a game seven in the finals to the Spurs. In that series, Rashid Wallace doesn't guard Robert or at the palace. The Spurs win that game.
That doesn't happen that the Pistons win back to back, but they also beat the Heat in five in seven games. In four they beat the Nets in seven games to win the championship. A lot of people wanted to say they swept the Lakers gentlemen's sweep or five games sweep over the Lakers, because the Lakers did. They win Game one. However, it was but even the year before it was the famous Magic Game. I say famous because it was the first round series. And what was famous is that t MAC after
the the Orlando Magic had gone up three games to one. T MAC was like, it's great to win the series, and did he put up like the three games the one like he had already cast the series and he had already you know, put the the magic into the to the next series. And of course the Pistons came back and and UH and won that series. If someone that really knows history of the Pistons, then you go back from the going to work Pistons to the bad Boys, and the bad Boys I
think I think their Game seven history UH is not as good. It was close to being a situation where they could have won a couple more championships easily if you go through it now. They did beat the Bulls in ninety Michael Jordan on their way to UH win back to back titles in the Eastern Conference Finals. Beating the Bulls and Jordan in a Game seven pretty big deal when
you think about the history and what was that stake there. If you go to eighty nine when they won their first championship, they just mowed through everyone. But this is where you start going back the year before. They lost to the Lakers in seven, But in Game six, I think Isaiah scored twenty five points in the first quarter. That was the one where Kareem, there was a phantom fall on Bill Lambier. That's the one where you're feeling
like the Pistons got robbed where they could have beat the Lakers. The year before that was when Isaiah threw the ball away in the Boston Garden where the Pistons win that game, they're gonna win. Everyone knows that they would have gone to the finals that year, but they lost to the Celtics in seven. So look at capping. They lost to the Lakers, and in seven the year before they lost to the Celtics and seven they would have been to
the finals. This is how close the Detroit Pistons were to not only winning two, but to win it but easily. You talk about winning three championships, then you're talking about a team. Because they do. Isaiah gets short changed in history, and so did the Pistons team, even though they went
back to back. They get short changed a little bit, certainly overshadowed by the Bulls in Jordan, but a couple of those Game sevens throwing the ball away when the game was over to bird they're getting to the finals there, Kareem, you go back and look, I mean the plane of verticality, Lambier, he's leaning just a little. He doesn't touch come close to Kareem. You know, you're talking about another championship there. So those are the
kind of things that you're taking a look at. All right, Freddy has found us on Twitter and he's got a couple of things to get into here. He says his best game seven was in nineteen ninety one. He says, Morris and Smoltz. Now you've got the two former Tiger pitchers in that game. Smolts to the Braves, Morris to the Twins. Did Morris pitch ten innings in that game? It was? That was an incredible game seven. Two great pitchers, two Hall of famers going at it in a duel.
You know that's going to be up there. That's a great one. He also adds the Marlins and Indians and says, in a way, both of those are Tigers related because you had Dombrowski winning his first as a GM and Jim Leland was the skipper for the Marlins there winning his only World Series. Good point there. Freddie also playing the angle of the Oilers winning tonight, saying that Ken Holland will win a Cup as GM before the Wings get to the playoffs with Steve Eiserman, and he says, Stevie never won a
Cup as a GM with the Lightning. Yeah, I hadn't thought about that. If you were telling me that when Isserman was coming in that Ken Holland would win a Stanley Cup before the Red Wings even made it to the playoffs, I would have taken that bet for sure. And I mentioned Bob Cole calling that Eiserman goal against the Blues in ninety six. Freddy says, today is Bob Cole's birthday. How about that wrapping it all up nice and neat,
making things look pretty good. I hear you on that. Those are some good feedbacks there from Freddy, whose knowledge of sports is top notch when you walk all the way through it and get to it. You know, there's been a lot to talk about the Pistons, and you know Tom Gorris spoke last week, and you know they bought out Monty Williams for so much money. When Tom Gorris bought the Pistons and he has not won a playoff game, he bought them for three hundred and twenty five million. The current
value euation of the Trite Pistons is three point one billion, Gorris. I imagine the factor in the liquidating of the palace and then the sweetheart deal you know that he has. But I'm sure Gorris when everybody's like, hey, you're an absent to your owner. You know, nobody likes you. They're booing you. Your team's a big loser, I'm sure he wants to say, dude, I'm a big winner. When it comes down, we're not winning on the floor, but we're winning off the floor. He imagine.
I mean he's the worst, like the product on the floor, the absolute worst ever. But a lot of people say, you know where accounts is the bank account and Gorris, after everybody's hey, you're a big loser. That's tough. Oh you had to cough up seventy seven million hill, Gorris is like, I'm worth three point one billed for them, just the pistons I paid three twenty five for him. He feels like he's the champion.
I'm sure he feels like that. All right, Hey, thanks to ben Zoe's for producing great job, Ben, thank you there he is ben Zoe's to BZ. Matt Shepherd will be back tomorrow morning for Ben.
