Now that the Nsloya has beaten the Dodgers in a series and taking care of business against Cleveland in a series and wet Cincinnati in a series on the road, that perhaps they have brought you back in. They beat the Dodgers four to three for a second Street comeback win against LA and the NL West Division leaders. Justin Henry molloy comes through to the pin shit RBI single in the ninety Detroit has won three Stree series. They have won eight of their last

ten overall. They are playing five hundred ball at home and they are three games under five hundred and forty seven up and fifty down out. Is that good enough? No? It is not. But I've said, and I stay consistent with this now, I said, you want to get back in a race. You want to do anything that creates a buzz for your fan base. You win series. Doesn't have to win every game, you gotta win series. And they've won three series in a row, and that's important.

But maybe more importantly for you is who they've beaten in those series. There are certain teams that carry a certain cachet. There are certain teams that have a certain mystique about them, or perhaps there are certain teams and franchises that when you play them, because of what they have already accomplished in a

single season, it means a little bit more to you. Beating Cleveland means more to you than beating the Chicago White Sox, and rightfully so, beating the Dodgers means a lot more to you than beating the Bad Rockies, for sure. So doing all that has been impressive. Don't take that away from them. LA now is forty eight and two when leading after eight innings. The two losses Saturday and Sunday in Detroit, perhaps, just perhaps Saturday,

the comeback win where you make the improbable extra inning victory. How it happened, You're still shaking your head a little bit. Home run after home run Cole keith a Hero. I mean, it's unbelievable, right, Jille Rochelle Hero. Perhaps that's a turning point, Maybe just maybe that is the game that makes that team believe and its fan base believe. I don't care if

LA's lost six or seven. I just care that Detroit has won aid of and after the All Star Break, Detroit visits Toronto and we'll see what happens there. Knowing that well, let's face it, Toronto is just kind of

an a team. I would have guessed going into the season Toronto would have been one of the better teams in the American League when you look at their talent, when you look at the fact that they've been together for an extended period of time, they've had some disappointment, they've had some success, and I mean postseason, then you would guess, yeah, this is a team that can make that next step. Instead, they are worse than the Tigers record wise, at forty four and fifty two at the All Star break.

Detroit is five hundred at home. Eh, you know, that is something that you would hope they would be much better at. And they are a minus seven in the run scoring differential, which I bring up pretty freequently. But again there's a reason for that. Look at the teams that are above it. Boston is off to I mean, Boston's been unbelievable lately. They've

won seven of ten. They are way above the run scoring differential. The Yankees have struggled as of late, but they're eighteen games over five hundred and they are a plus one oh eight in the run scoring differential. Baltimore high up there and they lead the American League East, and they have fifty eight wins. That leads the American League. Look at the Philadelphia Phillies sixty two wins, one hundred and forty in run scoring differential, important statistic to follow.

I know we get two numbers happy in baseball individually, but if you look at it from a team perspective, that is a really big one. There aren't many teams. Saint Louis is an underlier. That's a team over five hundred, but a minus thirty eight in run scoring differential. There aren't many teams who are really successful or above five hundred that are allowing more runs than scoring more runs. So just something to keep an eye on moving forward.

But the Tigers hit the All Star break. Perhaps it comes at a bad time for Detroit, Perhaps it comes at a very good time for the La Dodgers. MLB saw fifty one home runs hit on Sunday, the most of any day this season, and nine players had two or more. That is the second most on a single day all time. That'll tell you something, right there. You like the power you got it yesterday? That's a lot and Oakland had eight of them. Oakland blew out the Phillies and they

had eight home runs. How do you figure that? Right, that's what you love about sports. Here's a team that is fifteen games out in the West. They're playing just sort of you know, they're five and five in their last ten. They're a minus eighty three in the runs, growing deferential. They've got just fifteen roadkills and yet to hit eight homers. Good for them. Record eight college players to start the draft. In the Major League

Baseball Draft, Tigers used the eleventh overall pick to select Rice Rainer. He is a high school shortstop from Harvard Westlake High School six' three buck ninety five left handed power hitter who can also pitch. They predict him or project him as a possible thirty home run type of guy. We'll see about that again. I mean, I don't know how you do this. It is

so challenging, you know. They said the same thing about Spencer Toorkolsim, but at least they had a college, a high level Arizona State, high level college background on which to make that projection. This kid's a high school player, but he's also committed to Texas, one of the best programs in the country, and some are comparing him to Corey Seeker. He was a California high school Player of the Year and he comes out of a very rich

high school baseball reputation. Who else has come from there? Well, I can give you a few ready, Brennan Bosh, don't turn off the radio. Hold on. I mean Pete Crow, Armstrong, Jack Flaherty, Max Freed, Lucas Giolito. There you go. So the two hitters are sort of good. The two pitchers are really good. We'll tell you a little bit more about him when we come back. The MLB All Star festivities begin tonight in Texas, and that has a lot to do with our poll question.

Let's say twenty minars older in Michigan. Play really good story on x look social media. I don't know how you feel about it, but it creates some really good stories for you. There's a lot of evil on it. I think a lot of just kissed

off people who just want to make life miserable for others. But I do believe there's a lot of really good out there too, good way to find out what's going on in the world from legitimate sources, but also some really good storytelling. There's a guy in the named Jim. I'm Connesberger, who's a baseball enthusiast. He had a really good story where he wrote the Dodgers drafted Tom sever a year in the tenth round of nineteen sixty five draft.

The Dodgers balked at Sever's asking price of fifty thousand dollars to sign their scout Tommy. Lesorda, who was a Hall of Fame manager, countered with a two thousand dollars signing bonus. So Sever's asking for fifty thousand, Lesorda counters with two thousand. After sever declined, Leasorda said to Siver, who was

studying pre dentistry at usc good luck with your dental career. And Tom Sever, before Marianna Rivera had the highest I believe, correct me if I'm wrong here, Trent, he had the highest voting rate in Hall of Fame history. I believe that's the case. At least it was before Rivera. Anyway, that was a really good story. I thought. So the Tigers get

what they hope will be their future shortstop. There. You know, you and I have complained about the lack of position players within the system, guys who are offensive orphans in other words, offensively super gifted but no home defensively. Well, hopefully they have one, because the belief is that this kid, Bryce Rayner, shortstop from Harvard Westlake High School, is going to be

a shortstop full time. Here is what MLB writes about Bryce Rayner. So Bryce, like Bryce Harper Rayner, are AI n e R. It says, you usually a good time, a good sign that a draft prospect has drawn comparisons to the reigning World Series MVP, like Rayner does to Seger. He actually seems more likely to stay at shortstop as a pro than Seger did when he was drafted. Of course, a whole lot has to go right

between now and the majors for Rainer to approach that kind of production. Yeah, the first thing they have to do is they got to sign him. You got to sign the kid because he's committed to Texas. So you hope that's not the case anyway, at least for the organization's sake, since he is old for his class, having already turned nineteen years old. There are some questions about how high how his high school performance rather will translate to the

next level. Again, California Gatorade Player of the Year at six' three and you're going You'll see him put on some weight, no doubt, but the Tigers will go right after trying to sign him as quickly as possible. What was interesting I thought in watching the start of the draft. I didn't watch the entire first round like I have in the past, but I did watch the very beginning. Wake Forest had three players chosen in the top ten, sever King, speaking of Tom sever who was named after Tom sever sever

King, the shortstop there. Wake Forest was taken tenth by the Washington Nationals. Also taken in the top ten from wake Forest was a first baseman, Nick Kurtz Power first baseman Oakland grabbed him at number four, and their pitcher, their top pitcher, Chase Burns, was taken by the Reds at number two. What I found interesting is that Charlie Condon, who was the Golden Spikes Award winner the player of the Year out of Georgia. He's the third

baseman, lasted until number three, where Colorado took him. I don't know if you're watch this kid play. I watched him in the NCAA tournament. He's there's something about him that makes you go. He jumps off the page at you hit four to thirty three, had thirty seven bombs, had an ops of over fifteen hundred. He's the first Division one hitter this century to hit thirty five homers and post better numbers than Wyatt Langford and Dylan Cruz did

in the same conference. He's six' six. The comparison at third base anyway, is to Chris Bryant and Alec Baum. Who's going to be in the home run derby tonight. Played all over for Georgia, actually played every outfield position, played third base. I think he played a little first base as two or as well. So from what all I read, he was the number one player on every draft board. But Colorado gets him at number three. That's pretty damn good. He's a big, strong, hard nosed

kid. He looks like a hell of a player. But apparently Cleveland, Now, some of this has to do a signability. To keep that in mind, anytime you're drafting a guy, a lot of it has to do a sign ability. But Cleveland drafted Travis Bazana. He's the second baseman from Oregon State. He's Australian born. He hit four. It's not like he's

a slouch, right. He had four oh seven, had twenty eight homers, and had twice as many walks as strikeouts, and I think that's what was the appealing statistic to them, while some of these other guys, like the have you seen the kid at Florida, the home run hitter Jack Kegleone, I don't know if you've seen him. He went to Kansas City at number six. The big knock on him was he had a lot of swinging mess. He's the guy who hit four nineteen hit club thirty five homers.

He also went five and two as a pitcher. He's got unbelievable raw power eighty raw power. The strikeout to walk ratio much better than it had been. But I mean, he had thirty one intentional walks, so he had fifty eight to twenty six strikeout walk strikeout to walk ratio. Pretty impressive, but early in his career and even this past season, had a lot of swing and mists, so that was a little bit of the knock on him. But overall, Kansas City the Division for the Tigers. The Tigers Division,

the AL Central got tougher. If these kids are as good as many people think they're going to be. So whether Condon went to Cleveland or the Zana went to Cleveland, they got themselves a pretty damn good player in that. So what you saw yesterday, at least in the early round, is you saw the number one overall pick go to Cleveland. Number one. You saw the White Sox take perhaps the best power pitcher in the draft and Hagan

Smith. They're going to trade. Chicago's going I don't want to get too deep into a draft when a lot of you may look at it and go, I don't know who these kids are. Well, this kid's he's a left handed pitcher from Arkansas, is a He's a strong, strong kid, throws a heavy ball. They're going to trade Garrett Crochet in all likelihood, and now they get Hagan Smith, who could fast track nine to two sec Pitcher of the Year struck out one hundred and sixty one and eighty four innings.

Think about that, pitches eighty four innings. He's got one hundred and sixty one punchouts, including a seventeen strikeout performance in six innings against Oregon State at one point. That's impressive. So you get that in the division, and then you get the cagle Own kid, who many people think could be Simil. I'm allure to Bryce Harper with a left handed stick. He's got that type of power. Kansas City's got themselves some good young talent. Vinnie

Pascantino, he's their first basement. I don't know if cag Leon goes anywhere else, but they've got him listed as a first baseman. I doubt he pitches at the next level. That's what show Tony has done though, to baseball. More kids are coming out saying, you know what I can do both for you. You're seeing it from the high school level and you're seeing it from the collegiate level. It's not unique, by the way, it's not unique at all. A lot of guys had pitched and played positions in

college. You know that Matt Vierling was one of them. He was a closer in Notre Dame. But they're not good enough to pitch at the next level. Some of these kids, they say, are good enough to play both. We'll see how that translates. We'll see how that happens as we move forward. Speaking of the Major League Baseball the All Star festivities begin tonight.

You know the

Home Run Derby is tonight in Texas. And that's our pole question. By the way, you can vote as often as you want on our Twitter account, X account XB Mornings or on Facebook x'es and bros. And the Home Run Derby tonight features guys like Gunnar Henderson. He's got twenty seven bombs. Alec Bohm He's got eleven, Peter Alonzo's got eighteen, Bobby Wood Junior has the same number, Marcelo Zuna has twenty three, Jose Ramirez has the same

number, Oscar Hernandez with nineteen, and A Dolice Garcia was seventeen. He's the hometown guy. He'll get the loudest ovation first time since nineteen thirty four that the reigning World Champions Series World Series Champ, I should say, host the Midsummer Classic. So that's your home run derby competition. Gunnar Henderson of the Orioles, Balm of Philly, Alonzo of the Mets, Wet Junior of the Royals, Ozuna the Braves, Ramirez of the Guardians, Taoscar Hernandez and

A Dolice Garcia. Hernandez of the Dodgers and Garcia the Rangers. Do you know who's starting the All Star Game? Trent? Do you know who the starting pitchers are in the All Star Game? Uh? No, I haven't seen. Okay, you and I had this conversation last week, yes, and we said, hey, does Paul Skeens really deserve to start the All Star Game? He's going to start. He's the guy, Tory Lavello tapped him on the shoulder and said, yeah, you get it. I think

it's awesome. I changed my mind, you know, especially after the no hit through seven performance that he had in his last performance. Good for him, pretty awesome. So you like that, Yeah, I think it's the right call. I mean, it's kind of one of those deals where you pick which stat means the most to you and then you kind of roll from there. But he's got an ERA under two, he's got a whip under one, eighty nine strikeouts, doesn't have a loss on his record. You

know, it makes sense. You do realize, though, I'm sure that Chris Saale Chris Sale just won his major league leading thirteenth game of the year. Yeah, and he's almost gotten double the amount of strikeouts too. So again, it just depends what you look at that you value most. And this is kind of exciting though. I think for base fans to see Paul Schemes, the young bull get in there. Yeah, I think it's something

people will tune into. How long they watch, I don't know, but I do believe he brings an element to the game of where our eyeballs want to watch. Now the question you ask yourself, is is he deserving? Sure? I think Chris Sales more deserving. But people feel like he's been there, done that. He's also started eighteen games, all right, or yeah, eighteen games? Ten quality starts, eighteen games. It's not like Chris Sales got bad numbers. He's got a whip of point ninety five.

He's got a strikeout per nine at eleven and a half. He's got an ERA of two point seven, So there's nothing wrong there. Who's starting for the American League? We have any idea who's starting for the American League. I read something over the weekend. I don't either, not yet. I read something over the weekend where they had these MLB dot Com had these ideal matchups. They had schemes against Garrett Crochet, and I thought to myself,

look, this is not a knock on Garrett Crochet. He's been a he's a He's an interesting pitcher to watch because he pumps in at one hundred miles an hour, all right, And to me, that's that's just about it. He could be it depended on York School. He could be the number one trade chip piece as we head toward the trade deadline, So that was one of the matchups they liked. Another matchup they liked Chris Saale against Max Schurzer. I'm like, what, what Max Schuzer, He just made his

first start the other not too long ago. Why in the world would you? Oh, because he's a three times cy Young Award winner, he's finally returned to the Rangers rotation. He's had two starts. You want to do that. It's what they call a throwback All Star performance. That's not what people want to see anyway. So there's there were two of them. Then there was this one Ranger Suarez Phillies, Corbin Burns Orioles. Okay, two guys who are really good with the earn run average. Max Freed against Jack

Flaherty. Okay, there's I suppose that's a nice possibility because both went to Harvard Westlake High School in Los Angeles that nobody knows about until the beginning of the broadcast, not even in the stadium. So there's four scenarios they bring up, and I'm thinking to myself, Wait a minute, where is Tarek Scubel in all this? How about bringing up a guy who actually is deserving

and should be starting the All Star Game for the American League. And finally, finally, on the fifth option, they write Zach Wheeler against Trek Scuble. Strong case for these being the top two starters in the majors right now, first season with the Phillies and twenty twenty Wheeler or since when he started in twenty twenty. Wheeler leads all starters in wins above replacement, second and

most endings thrown era, so on and so forth. The idea of Schooble even being mentioned as one of baseball's best pitchers a year ago seemed inconceivable after missing nearly a season two to flexor tendon surgery. He returned last year July fourth and has blossomed as of late. And then they give all his numbers. He's squarely in the AlSi young Ward conversation and deserving it of All Star Star. Absolutely skemes against Schoogle. I do not say this because we are

in Michigan. We are in Detroit. Specifically, I'm not saying this because I'm a Homer. But if you want, if you believe, if the premise to an argument of starting Paul Skins gets you eyeballs, because you can't say he's having the best season in the National League, at least undoubtedly you can't do that because I just gave you Chris sales numbers. They're off the

charts. He's gonna win at this rate, he will win Comeback Player of the Year, and rightfully so, you could make the argument that Skeens is having the best season. But many people the argument is this, I want to see the young phenom. I want to see the guy and introduce him to the rest of the baseball world. In case you're not following it as closely as Trent, you and I are, there are people out there like, yeah, maybe I'll tune in just for the beginning. You want to

see a fireballer. You want to see a guy who's done something nobody else has ever done. You're seeing a possible historic performance. Okay, he's the fifth rookie to start an All Star Game today ONNOMO in ninety five, Fernando vellens Will in eighty one, Mark Fidrich in nineteen seventy six, and a guy by the name of Dave Stenhouse in nineteen sixty two. Don't know that six and zero one point nine Era eighty nine punch outs in sixty six innings

and he's allowed just fourteen runs. You're gonna watch him blow people away. It was kind of a neat thing for Tory Levolo to do. He interrupted Paul Skeens on a national radio show and said, Paul, first of all, how you doing. Just wanted to congratulate you. I've chosen you to be the starter for the National League and the All Star Game. Really excited for unbelievable honor and well deserved and Schemes was blown away, and rightfully so

kind of a unique way to start to do that. Right absolutely, this is a good stat among pitchers with at least seven hundred and fifty pitches this season. Skeenes's average fastball speed is at ninety nine point one miles an hour, his average splitter speed is ninety four point one miles an hour, and he's going to become the fifth pirate to ever start an All Star Game.

I'm going to bring up those names you don't even note. Jerry Royce back in nineteen seven twenty five, and he would end his career with the Dodgers. Doc Ellis in nineteen seventy one. He was really good. Bob Friend never heard of him in Verne LN nineteen sixty and fifty six, respectively. Don't know them, but that's a hell of accomplishment on the part of Paul's Skien. So if that's the belief, If the belief is, I want to introduce to you a young phenom who's going to captivate you for years to

come. Which is kind of interesting if you think about it, because baseball has been all about what scoring more runs? How do we find a way to generate more offense in the world. Right, That's what most of these recent rule changes have done. They've benefited hitting and base runners. Take away the shift. Okay, I don't know whether you liked it or not, but they take it away to give hitters a better opportunity. Make sure infielders that their two feet are on the dirt of the infield. You can have

it deep. You can't be playing behind the bag, you can't be playing on the grass as an infielder. In the attention to make you know, the offensive explosion and everything kind of goes hand in hand to with speeding up the game itself. Yeah, I don't even I don't even know if it was speeding up the game. I think it was more about tempo like I didn't. I didn't care about the speed of the game. I cared about the tempo of the game and how much how much it slowed down. That's

probably a better way to put it. And and I think which I always found rather interesting, Trent, because we don't have a problem with football. You and I love football, right, I mean, we could watch it almost every day if it's a long with its decent teams. I'm not watching, you know, too much UFL or Canadian Football League, but NFL and college high level college football, we're watching that quite a bit. I don't

mind the and I like to hurry up offenses, you know. I think there are people who complain of it to a certain extent because it has a tendency to it's great rhythm when you're in rhythm. When you're not in rhythm, it can be painful to watch. But people never had a problem with them huddling up and then breaking the huddle and walking to the line of scrimmage.

There's all kinds of downtime and slower time in football. But because we're only exposed to our favorite team once a week, whether it be the Lions or Michigan State or Michigan whatever, you're only exposed to them once a week, then you can live with it. But with baseball, because you're seeing it every night on a Tuesday night, you're complaining because, oh man, I saw the same thing Monday night. These guys are taking free. Yeah, I saw the same thing on Sunday and another buddy, Yeah, on

Saturday, I went to the game. It took forever, right, So the temple was not necessarily there, but they've done everything to speed up or to generate more offense. A limited amount of times to step off, to disengage the mound, if you will, right a now pitch clock for you to get ready. Catchers have a certain amount of time that they have to be ready. Batteries have to be in the box at a certain time,

and pitchers have a certain time to deliver the baseball. All these things expedite the game and what they hope we're generating more offense, size of the bags. All these things are benefiting base runners, hitters and offense in general.

What has benefited pitching nothing really nothing. So with that mindset, it's a little surprising that we would want to we as in me and Trent, would want to lobby for a guy like Paul Skeins and Tarik Skoobele to be starters because they are strikeout pitchers and we are in awe of their power pitching capability. But that's what's going to happen. You're going to see You're going to see Paul Skeins picking up and probably mow him down and do the same thing

with Derek Skoubl. Guys who are going to be out there throwing gas and it's going to be awesome. Well, they're they're young and exciting. I think that's a big part of this because we're talking about an era and you just laid it out perfectly that pitching is almost at a disadvantage at times, right, So for these young guys to thrive in this era and burst onto the scene like this and put up borderline historic numbers here in their young careers,

that's what we want to watch. Yeah, and that's what we're gonna get. Yep. It just kind of goes against the grain of what baseball has been totally, you know, but it's exciting. It is, it's super exciting. I just I heard people, Yeah, Paul Skeen's he Onwa's a young guy. And now he's going to face the best of the very best. Okay, hold on a second, Like, I don't know what the batting order is going to be, all right, I don't know what

Bruce Bochi's gonna put things together. But here's who he has to choose from. Atlie Rushman, awesome player, Vladimir Guerrero Junior home run Yesterday Strong, Marcus Simeon, Jose Ramirez love him, Gunnar Henderson, love them, and the all Star in the home run derby Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Stephen Kwan, Jordan Alvarez. All. I mean, you look at that and you're th that's loaded talent, love it, all that stuff, right, Don't give me that he's facing the best of the best when Paul Skeens has

already faced plenty of the best of the best. Struck out nine Braves and six innings. He struck out eight Mets in seven innings. He struck out eleven Brewers in seven innings, the division leaders, he struck out eight Dodgers in five innings and beat them. So I'm not a believer that. Well, now he's got to face the best of the best. Let's see how he does. He's been doing it well long enough, okay at six and oh, to be in eleven starts, six and oh, to be exposed

to some of the best. If he was ever going to be intimidated, not that the Cubs are great, but if he's ever going to be intimidated, it would have been in his debut on May eleventh against the Cubs. And yet what did he do? He went out there in four innings of work and struck out six Cubs. Not bad. Are there going to be nerves? I would think so, But I don't think he's gonna get overwhelmed.

Remember this guy just helped LSU in a national championship. He's been dealing with all kinds of quote unquote pressure, more media attention, and all that stuff ever since he's been drafted first overall last year. Now the question is how well will he perform in the All Star Game. You'll get a chance to watch him tomorrow night, and I would expect. I would expect Trek Scuble. Again, we haven't seen this yet, right, Trent. We

haven't seen who's starting for the American League. Correct, nothing's been announced, nothing's been announced. It's interesting that Tory Lavello would announce his, but there's been no announcement for the American League. My guess is it's going to be Schooble. I don't know who else you would think, Seth Lugo. That
