Get some facts and come back and Seebee. Get some facts and come back and Seebee. Don't throw out salaries or other things. Get some facts and come back and Seebee. You can't handle the true now told our players you need a bit more like a dog. We don't need a bunch of cats in here. Looking in the mirror, I look good. I got my extra bands on, I got my other shoes. Be a doll. We don't need no meals. We don't need no cats. We need more dogs.

Were out a detainer. Ah, you're not that decayed. We weren't good. There's no sense of asking me things about the game. I'm telling you. We laid an egg. So I'm not gonna break it down for you. He sucks. He sucked. We laid an egg. That's all I have to say. Guys, I'm sorry. I'm not gonna break it down for you. Nothing went well for us. It's on us. We have to figure it out every way. A da Are you a dog or are you a cat? I don't care as long as you're a sports fan.

Welcome to Exus and Bros. Monday through Friday from six until nine. Thanks for spending some of your Thursday with us. We know you got some options, so it's important that we talked sports with you. Meyer hotline is open for you as always eight six six eight three eight forty eight forty three in the text line is Sports Radio to twenty one thousand on Matt Sheppard. Trent Bally is our producer. Tiger is a winner yesterday by a run.

They have at least salvaged a split with Cleveland with the series wrap up. Jack Flaherty on the bump here today. Meanwhile, Team USA beats Team Canada in the US Olympic Exhibition game in Vegas. Right it was in Vegas or was it Arizona? I thought it was in Vegas. And Derek White takes the place of Kawhi Leonard, who's off Team USA because of an injury. Our poll question for you today, and we have one for you every day. Which of these events are you most interested in? Euro Soccer Championships,

Wimbledon, Scottish Open, NBA Summer League. You can vote on our Twitter handle XP Mornings. You can vote on our Facebook page X's and brose. We'll give you the results at this time tomorrow morning. Our pole question from yesterday, who was the best free agent? Acquisition in Detroit. Was it Vladimir Tarasenko with the Red Wings, Tobias Harris with the Pistons, DJ Reader with the Lions, or Kevin Zeitler with the Lions Trent Bally? What were

the final results? A little surprising but a welcome surprise for Lions fans. DJ Reader gets forty five percent of the vote. Wow. I think that speaks to how high Lions fans are and Alie McNeil, they're big on the defensive middle DJ Reader, that's huge. Oh that stuns me me too. I thought I thought it would have been number one Zeitler, number two Tarasenko, number three Reader and number four Harris. That was my prediction and you're

almost correct. I mean you're correct. With Harris in last place. He got seven percent of the vote. Vladimir Tarasenko got second place with thirty one percent. Zeitler got seventeen percent. But I'm with you, Shev. I thought Zeitler would be the popular pick there. Yeah, just because we believe I paint us all with the broad brush. I think it's fair. We

believe that's the strongest part of the Detroit Lions is their offensive line. When you lose a keeb component to that in Jonah Jackson going to the Rams. You need to replace that with a solid player. Zeitler is that guy. Really good guard, but good results. We appreciate it. Again. We've got our poll question up there for you to talk about and for you to vote on as often as you want, and we'll give you the results at

this time tomorrow morning. Jim Camberoni's going to join us from Spartan mag at eight thirty five. We'll talk a little Michigan State football. Change things up. Speaking of football, though, and I do want to before we do that, let me just get to a tweet that somebody sent me regarding the Jim Bowden discussion we had earlier on where the Tigers and other teams stand with about twenty days left before the trade deadline. We read you that article a

lot of it. Coach aj En sent me a tweet and said, we stand pat don't do either. Might be the only way to get Mayaida off the team. There's another person, not a fan of Kenta Maaida. I tweeted this out because I think it's a really cool, really cool article on Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning is very likable otherwise he doesn't do as many commercials as he does. He and Shaquille O'Neal and Charles Barkley very likable people.

There was a recent question, I think it was from NFL Network who asked him, if there's one wide receiver you could throw to that you never did, who would it be. Now, this is a guy who's thrown to some of the best receivers in the game and helped them become among the best receivers in the game. Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Damarius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders among the Julian Lleman, all those guys, or I'm sorry, Wes Welker, not Julian Edelman. Who do you think Peyton Manning chose Jerry Rice?

It's a good one. He chose Raymond Barry, who played for the Colts from nineteen fifty five through nineteen sixty seven. Six time Pro bowler, six time All Pro, won a couple of NFL championships, ranks fourth on the Colts all time receiving list, third on the all time receiving touchdowns list. Maybe some of it has to do with the fact that Peyton Manning really

respected Johnny Unitas and that was the connection. Remember when Unitas passed and Manning wanted to play in high top black cleats because that was Johnny Unitas's signature, and he was going to get fined by the NFL. What a ridiculous thing. The NFL was going to find that one of the faces of the league. They were going to find him for wearing high top cleats. That's idiocy in honor of a legend of said league, right in honor of one of

the greatest players the league has ever had. And that's what you're gonna do. Idiocy. But whatever, Peyton Manning. Maybe it's because of that connection. Raymond Burry a longtime great Colt, one of the greatest Colts of all time. But I still find it pretty interesting. But it did get me thinking this. So I wanted to ask you and would love your participation.

Somebody's already participated in on Twitter at XP mornings. I ask you this when it comes to this type of question, let's try to bring fans into it. If you could watch one player in his prime, pro or college, somebody you've never seen, you've only heard about, who you never watched, who would it be? Number of names came flying through my mind, and we're just talking football here, by the way, just football. Somebody tweeted

at us on XP Mornings Calvin Johnson, which surprises me. Calvin Johnson hasn't been retired that long. You never saw him play, That's strange. Well, maybe they're answering it from the from the Manning angle of like, who would you if you're a quarterback, who do you want to throw to? Well, I tweeted out this Peyton Manning says he if he could throw to one receiver he never threw to, who would it be? Raymond Barry? So we're asking who would be the one player you wish you could see after

missing them in their prime. So we're not restricting this to football. I am restricting it to football. You are okay, Okay. I gave my answer yesterday. Lawrence Taylor. I just you hear all about him as a football fanatic and how much of a freak he was. I would have loved to watch Lawrence Taylor rehab it. Yeah, you would have loved it. So my mind went to a lot of different places, and I think the easy answer to that is sometimes, well I never saw Bart's Starr play,

so I'd love to see bart Starr. I never saw Johnny Unitas play, so I would have loved to have seen Johnny Unitas or you know some people with I don't know Merlin Olsen, who was part of a really good defensive line. Right. Maybe maybe a guy like Otis Sis drunk back in the Oakland Day, Bubba Smith, how about that somebody like that. Here's where my mind went, so to two specific places. I would have loved to have seen Kirk Gibson play at Michigan State. Now he's a friend of mine,

and I know how good he was. He wasn't good, he was great. First Team All American, would have been a top five pick in the NFL. Professionally, I wrote down three names Night Train Lane Hall of Famer, Gail Sayers Hall of Famer, and Lance Alworth Hall of Famer. Those are the guys that I would have loved to have seen. What name comes to your mind? Meyer? Hotline is there? Eight six six eight

Just before the break, we referenced the article where Peyton Manning revealed the one wide receiver in NFL history he'd like to throw a pass to who he never got to, and it was Raymond Berry of the Baltimore Colts. I ask you give me the player you would love to watch in his prime but never had a chance to.

Who's the one player college bro one of both Just football now on Twitter, and you can follow us on TWITTERP Mornings or you can follow me at SHEP Matt feel Free. It's fine either way, we'll get to it. You can you can also, if you'd like, you can also follow our producer Trent Bally at Trent Bally b A double l e y. He's got the picture with the lion's hat on there. So here's here's the Twitter. Let's see. Somebody wrote Calvin Johnson and I wrote back, h good one.

It's too bad you never got a chance to see him. I'm surprised that must be a very young person on Twitter who's sending us that. Yeah, if your answer is Kellen Johnson, I don't think you're legally allowed to have a Twitter account. Yeah, not just not just that you must not be a football fan. I mean that's that's crazy because he hasn't been retired too long. Andrew on Twitter said, ray Nichke grew up listening to my grandfather telling me stories about him. See. I love that. That's why I

gave it a love. I think it's awesome that he goes that deep. Ray Nichki was an absolute badass. I'm not let's not don't go Hollywood and the longest yard. Ray Nichki, he was in the original movie there, but this is a guy who played for the Green Bay Packers. Was actually a third round draft pick. Yeah, a third round pick round draft pick in the nineteen fifty eight NFL draft. A guy by the name of King

Hill was the first player chosen in that draft. I know. But Ray Nichki ended up being a Hall of Famer and won plenty of championships, five NFL championships with Vince Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers. A phenomenal player. He was as mean and tough as Dick Buckus no teeth, He's the He was the first Jack Lambert no teeth in the middle as a linebacker, adjusting his mask and wanted to tear your head off. That's a really good one.

Here's another one from Randy Bobby Lane. There's some Lions love right there, no doubt about that. I'm going to ask Jim Camperoni that very question. Just ask him, get his thoughts on it. He writes for Spartan magg He's going to join us at thirty five after the hour, I wrote Gail Sayers. Now, I'm sure a lot of people have heard of Gail Sayers. Please not because of the Brian Piccolough story, just because he was one of, if not well Jim Brown. He's one of the greatest running

backs of all time. Here's the unique thing about Gail Sayers, not that he played at Kansas. The unique thing about him is that he only played seven years in the NFL. And you really can't even call it seven because his last two years he played it combined four games because of injury, So he really only had five really good years, and one of those years he was injured as well, because he only played nine of the fourteen games back

then. In fact, today Gabel Sears would be severely criticized for being injury prone and not being a gamer because of the five If I can call him full seasons again, in nineteen sixty eight, when he was twenty five years old, he only played nine games, so on those five seasons, he only played a full season three times. He was Rookie of the Year in nineteen sixty five, again out of Kansas, Rookie of the Year unanimous I think, finished fourth in the MVP the following season, led the league in

rushing and yards per game. Two years after that, at the age of twenty five, led the league in yards per attempt and in his last full season before he got injured in nineteen sixty nine, he led the league in attempts, in yards and yards per game. But if I said to you this player, forget about the name for a minute. This player played seven seasons, sixty five games, rushed for under five thousand yards, but is

in the Hall of Fame and only rushed for thirty nine touchdowns. He only back in the day when they actually ran the ball a lot more than they do today, Gail Sayers had double digit touchdowns once his rookie year. His rookie year, here's the difference. Gail Sears not only was majestical and fluid as a running back, he was the best kick and punt returner of his era. They did the double duty back then. So he's scoring touchdowns,

he's returning kicks, he's returning punts. He was phenomenal in that regard to part of the reason he's a Hall of Famer. Plus he was a rock solid human being. So Gail Sears is that guy for Kirk Gibson. Is some of it personal? Yes? Yes? And I was really little when he played, and I do remember him catching passes from Eddie Smith just from discussions of people talking about it. You know, college football, it's not like every game was on TV back then, but that dude was an absolute

man amongst boys. When he played at Michigan State University. He would literally tell guys, Trent, you're trying to cover me, I'm going to run a post and there's nothing you can do about it. And he would do just that. And he is a legend on that campus and rightfully so, absolutely as an All American in football and an All American in baseball, would have been a first round pick in the NFL draft had he chosen to play NFL, and he was a first round pick in Major League Baseball. You

talk about an athlete like he could have run track too. He would have won as fast as a guy back then as you could find. He could have done the decathlon. Yeah, yeah, he would have been. Yeah, I would have put him up against Bruce Jenner. Different now, but I would have put him up against Bruce Jenner back then, no question, not just because of his athleticism, but because of his attitude too. He would will himself into events that maybe he wasn't as strong at and he's still

doing that great attitude, great fighters mentality right now. KRK Gibson had a great teammate, Love the man. Jim Comperoni, good dude, really good teammate at Spartan mag He joins us to talk issue football when we return.

I'm Matt Sheppard, and we're proud and honored to welcome in Jim Comparoni of Spartan mag He's the publisher of that fine publication since nineteen ninety seven. He's covered MSU football and basketball and recruiting since nineteen eighty eight. He's a lead analyst and sports editor for Spartan Magazine and he's covered NCAA tournaments, He's covered

final fours, he's covered bowl games. He's got great stuff. You can follo him on Twitter or on x at Jim Camperoni and check out a lot of the different things that he does, like on three dot com where he's really good in breaking down a lot of the things that Michigan State football has done and their depth chart and things of that. Everything that has go green, go white you can find with Jim Comperoni. And we welcome him in

on this Thursday morning. Jim, appreciate the time very much. Jonathan Smith has hit the ground running. What's impressed you most in his first few months at the Helm there at East Lansing. Hey, great, It's great to be on man. I really appreciate things for that introduction Helloed everybody, Detroit. This is a lot of fun for me. I appreciate it. You know Smith, you know, a lot of things are impressive. His temperament, the things you hear about him from other people that have played for him

as a player or coached with him. Solid human being which we need more of in college football. You hear a lot of those things from a lot of people. You know. Demetrius Martin is his cornerbacks coach. He's coming from the University of Oregon. Demetri is also coached at UCLA Arizona State. They're both you know, grew up around the Pasadena area. They've known each

other a long time. They're finally coaching together now. Demetris Martin played at Michigan State in the in the mid nineteen nineties, first for Perlis and then for Staban. So Demetrius Martin has coached against Jonathan Smith a number of times. Jonathan Smith coming from Arizona State and coached out of the Pac twelfth and Martin says he's a defensive coach. Getting prepared for those Oregon State teams,

especially his last two teams at Oregon State. He said it was a headache Oregon State made you defend every blade of grass vertically, horizontally, and physically, and then they would hit you with with deep shots. An interesting style of offense. They'll go under center more than any At Oregon State, they were under center for the quarterback position more than any team in the Power five, but they would also go deep off of that and just keep you guessing.

That established the physicality and then go to the air. You know. Offensive style wise, Oregon State last year reminded me a lot of the way Jim Harbaugh's offenses were at Michigan the last few years. So Jonathan Smith, former college quarterback, has I would say like a Jim Harbaugh outlook on how to attack defenses. And I think that style of play can play well in the Big Ten and they will recruit to it, primarily with the Midwest and

branching out from there. So the things I hear about him from people that have played for him and coached against him, coach with him, good person and competitive, which doesn't always come across when you talk to him. Always talk about how competitive he is. So all those things, step by step give Michigan State a chance to rebuild a program from foundational standpoint it's going to take a while, but I think they've got a pretty good person to try

to get those things done. Yeah, I agree, And I think it says an awful lot about Michigan State when you can take a guy from his alma mater to come to East Lansing in this type of quote unquote rebuild. Whether we like it or not, Jim, we're all compared to somebody, Okay, and with Jonathan Smith, he's going to be compared and every football coach at MSU probably should be compared to Mark D'Antonio. And you mentioned a good person, Well, I think that's similar to D'Antonio, because D'Antoni was

a good man. Right. There are other aspects of him as a coach that he will have to adjust to and that he will have to be in order to try and create his own shadow rather than Mark D'Antonio. What will be his biggest challenge in his first year? In his first year, you know, taking over a program that's had a lot of players leaving and a lot of players coming in. I think forty or more new new faces and

new scholarship players when he count the incoming freshmen. So getting a team atmosphere, finding leaders, gaining the trust of the players, which I think he has. You know, that's that's that's one thing. You know, the Big ten is strong. Everybody knows that Michigan State's schedule is difficult. Everybody's scheduled the Big that is difficult, but it's also somewhat manageable in some ways.

But in terms of what you said about biggest challenges, you know, in the middle of the schedule, dealing with Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon in Iowa. Those four games come right in the middle of the schedule. But I think the thing that's going to determine the direction of the season will be two early season games at Maryland at Boston College. So these, you

know, challenges is getting off to a good start. Winning those two manageable road games difficult Maryland, you know, that's an established program, you know that's been in bowl games the last couple of years. Going on the road, that'll be that's going to be a test to see if to see where Michigan State is there early in the year doing that with Aid and Giles a new quarterback. Giles has all kinds of talent. He needs to show that he can make reads and lead the team. Offensive line has had a lot

of change over It was somewhat disappointing the last couple of years. Now there's new people, a lot of unproven parts of that offensive line, So a lot of in terms of unproven players offensive line and quarterback, and going on the road for those two early games in September. I think those are the immediate challenges. Yeah, that's a really good point, especially with Maryland. I would argue that, you know, what Mike Loxley has done there has

been pretty impressive. You get a road win there at Maryland early on in the schedule. I think that's something on which you can build. You bring up the quarterback Giles and you said learning to read defenses as a former quarterback himself, Jonathan Smith, how much will it help building a quarterback room in East Lansing And what's the depth chart look like? You know, Chiles has all kinds of talent. He was a four star guy out for California.

He's a big time recruit that went to Oregon State last year backed up d de huey i'ngalalay at Oregon State. When Jonathan Smith and the staff came to Michigan State Child's game with him, and he's a dynamic talent, dynamic personality. He does have some natural leadership skills, all kinds of arm, six foot four, really good quickness, really good speed. They used him as a backup last year. You know, they'd usually give him one series per

game in the second quarter. I mean he's out there in Utah when Utah was four and oh, and he's got a series early in the second quarter, so he had some real experience. It was not just mop up duty. He needs to show he can make reads. That's something I ate Matt. I went over every pass completion that he made last year on TATE and I watched the entire Utah game, the entire Stanford game, and you don't

really see him make reads and go to his second and third option. He didn't do that yet, and he didn't do it in the spring game. So in terms of reading a defense and those progressions, that's something that needs to come around as he gets gets set for his sophomore year and then it'll

run some you know. No, they began that Utah game empty, you know, with the receiver a tight end out five wide and the defense of scrambling a point, decide what they're gonna do, because they prepared for a team that would go, you know, tight end one back and ram it down your throat. So they'll do all those things, and he can run a lot of those things. And they've got the tight end Jack Velling coming

with him from Oregon State. You know, one publication ranked Velling the Pac twelve tight end of the Year last year, so the tight end position is in good hands. The center position is also coming from Oregon State, Tanne Miller, second team of All Pac twelve. So those things helped Smith as he gets his offense established and it's going to be a physical style of offense,

but that doesn't guarantee immediate success of course. You know at Oregon State he began to inten in his first year, then five and seven, then the COVID year. Then they started getting a lot of momentum seven and six and twenty twenty one, and then had a big year in twenty twenty two, going ten and three, beating Florida in a Bowl game, finishing number seventeen in the country, and last year eight and four and also the top

twenty five. So it's going to take a while, but I'm impressed with the offensive line coach and the style of play, Brian Linkred coming with him from Morgan State to be offensive coordinator. A lot of interesting things to watch and a lot of new names at Michigan State for Michigan State fans to try to memorize and become familiar with. Yeah, so much good stuff at Spartan Meg. We're talking with Jim Camperoni, who is the editor and the main

guy right there right the publisher of Spartan Mag. And he's been doing it sinceeen ninety seven. It's amazing how much content you provide. You brought up a couple of names and folks. If it's not just Michigan State players now even the radar like so, it's a really good recruiting piece on Spartan Mag. On the Radar for twenty six of five Wars star quarterback Nathan Bernhard providing an eye full at Michigan State camp. It's worth a read if you follow

the green and the white. Now you mentioned the offensive line, which is it's the backbone, man, It's the reason you win. I believe in football. Dan Campbell has proved with the Lions last year. Jim Harbaugh was a big believer in it. I would assume Jonathan Smith has a similar philosophy. And you brought up the center Tanner Miller, but also you wrote about

Luke Newman, who's poised to make an impact at right guard. Give me the overall philosophy you think that jon Jonathan Smith brings to Michigan State and how quickly he can implement that in this program. Yes, in a moment ago you asked me on the death start at quarterback, I wanted to mention also that the second stringer is Tommy Schuster from Chippewa Valley High School, Macomb Township,

Michigan. Yeah, transferring in from North Dakota, and he went out to North Dakota through for nine thousand yards you know, school wrecord holder in yards and touchdowns and you know sixty seven completion. He's only six feet tall, you know. I I've not spoken with him yet. I'm pretty sure that the Max schools did not recruit him coming out of Chippewaba. I think I think you're right about that. I think he played in a state championship

and I called his game, so I think you're right about that. I was surprised that no Max School jumped on him. Good point. Yeah, and by the way, a great job of those high school games. Just last night, I was I was watching Trey McKenny from Older Lake Saint Mary's McCormick and the other guy called that one. But I went over. I was clearing my DVR, and you know, I didn't really get a chance to watch. I was covering the NCAA tournament and I watched some of your

calls just last night. It's a great job either state championship cull. Okay, yeah, you call it game with Tommy Schuster and you know Shuster. You may remember they won the state title at Chippewah Valley and he was something like fourteen of fourteen in the state title game. The only person that's ever done that really good. You talk about making reads, I went back of some of the North Dakota games. Makes Reid's very accurate. He's only six

feet tall and he's not that fast. So that's that's why he ended up at North Dakota. He went there, started for four and a half years, set school records, you know, graduated there, went into the portal and you know, always wanted to play in the Big Ten always wanted to see if he could make it at a school like Michigan State, and Michigan State did a good job going into the portal and getting him presumably his backup.

But I tell you what the coaches when you ask him about Schuster, they smile and they just kind of nod and say, man, that guy can play quarterback. So when Smith took over, Mischigan State's quarterbacks went into the portal, you know, Noah Kim and kateon Hauser, and you know when they showed up, they had no scholarship quarterbacks on campus. That's the first time that's been the case of Michigan State's at the World War Two,

So they had to completely stock the quarterback position. Chiles was coming in, they went and got Schuster and a couple of high school guys. So that that's that's what the depth chart looks there. You know you mentioned Luke Newman. You know, what we're doing is a series right now in Michigan State. We are going over every single position on the depth chart I'm doing. I'm doing a series of stories in which I project what I think the depth

chart is. Because Michigan State has not released an official depth chart since Mark D'Antonio was at Michigan State. So I'm just going by what I saw in the spring game, what I've heard from coaches here and there, what I've seen with my own eyes. A lot of these players coming in as as transfers, so you have to imagine some of these things. Now, Luke Newman. I did ask Michigan State's off at the Wine coach Jim Halting, when I saw him at one of the camps out at Wayne State a few

weeks ago. I asked him about Newman because Newman didn't play for Mischigan State during spring practice. He's transferring in from holy Cross. He's from Birmingham Brother Rice. Really good offensive lineman, but we was recruited at kind of that, you know FCS level went to holy Cross three times all Patriot League.

I went and watched his film against Boston College. They're one game against a Power five team, and he was left tackle for holy Cross, and I think he looked better at left tackle against Boston College to Michigan State's left tackles half the last two years. I think Luke Newman from Brother Rice comes in as a graduate as a senior. Now, Mahaltick told me he's going to be beginning at right guard, so that's where I'm writing about him in this

depth chart preview. But I like it. He's got quickness, he's a mature, mature athlete, and he's sitting nicely in there at right guard. I don't discount the possibility that he could end up at tackle. And I think he's a good, solid, bona fide Big Ten player transferring in a brother Rice product come in from Holy Cross. Yeah, and you wrote about Christian Phillips at left guard. How does this team you mentioned first year there's going to be some growing pains. We get it. We understand that he's

changing the culture to a certain extent by bringing some guys in. How does this team, lack of a better phrase, tread water in year one? Do you think what do they rely on? Got to get that run game going and from their counter boot play action, rollout passing quarterbacks, got to make reads, offensive lines, got to keep them clean to an extent. You know, they got a couple good running backs show Nathan Carter's coming back, had a pretty good year last year. Kay Ron Adams is the guy

transferring in from U mass Those two running backs solid players. You know, Jalen Berger transferred out. He was repping behind those guys, and you know, the wide receivers need to come around. You know, Montory Foster is a senior more than forty catches last year, But I'm not sure they've that they've got, like, you know, real game breaking, proven type wide

receivers. And as you know, over the years of State, when they whether they've had good teams or bad teams, they've always had really good wide receivers, proven wide receivers. This year, going into the year, this might be the most unproven batch of wide receivers i've seen a mission State Gates. That doesn't mean that they won't get it done. But you know, Nick marsh coming in as a true freshman from River Rouge, the most talented guy in the room, I would say, I think he's going to have

an impact. So there's a lot of question marks, but you know, there's a smattering of talent and a lot of these guys want to be coached up. They want some discipline. I think that discipline and attentiveness was lacking the last two years with mel Tucker defense. A lot of transfers coming in the defense ranked outside the top one hundred the last two years. Scotty Hazelton never really got his defense, you know, untracked and you know, tightened

up it. It didn't work out. Joe Rossi coming in as the new defensive coordinator was good at Minnesota. You know last year they were young at Minnesota on defense. Prior to that, I thought Minnesota was one of the more underrated defenses in the Big Ten. And I wrote and told my writers when they played Minnesota two years ago, everybody, this is after Michigan State won the Peach Bowl. Missisters State was in the top twenty and they just

lost out at Washington. Coming back home, I said, I predicted Minnesota is going to beat Michigan, mister State. It's gonna be a tough game. And a lot of my readers gave me a lot of flak for that. Man, they didn't believe it at all. But that defense that Joe Rossi had at Minnesota, I was impressed with, reminded me of Iowa defenses a little bit. I think Jonathan Smith did a really great job going to get a Big Ten defensive coordinator with Midwestern ties to come in and take over

a defense that had been the leaguer for two years. Yeah, that's good stuff, man. There's a reason you're the king of East Lansing and Michigan State. Jim Comperoni, thanks for all the insight.
