Where are we at in society today? Come after me. I'm a man, I'm forty. Go ahead, make my day every single week. I put my freaking heart and soul into this. I don't go out there and laugh. It's not funny. Nothing's funny to me. I don't want to go out there and get embarrassed on Monday night football. For everybody, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. So I ain't nothing changed from yesterday. You're still the same person I was yesterday, and I got

the same thing for you that I had yesterday. You know why I'm here. You play to win the game. You don't play to just play it. That's a great thing about sports. You play to win, and I don't care if you don't have any wins. You go play to win. When you start telling me it doesn't matter to retire, get out for the matters. He has a home run arage on Tuesday across Major League Baseball, record setting. Believe it or not, what's going on? Everybody? Welcome

on a Wednesday. It's a hump day here on exues and bros. Across the Great State of Michigan. The Meyer Hotline is always open for you eight sixty six, eight three, eight forty eight forty three. The text line is there for you Sports Radio to twenty one thousand. We invite you to follow us on our Facebook page which is x'es and Bros. And follow us on Twitter as well or x XB Mornings. That's where we have our pole questions as well. Our poll question for you today, who's the best free

agent acquisition in Detroit this year? Is that Vladimir Tarasenko? Is it Tobias Harris, DJ Reader or Kevin Zeidler. Feel free to vote as often as you like. We'll give you the results tomorrow at eight o'clock hour. We will give you the results of yesterday's poll question in the eight o'clock hour here this morning. Tiger's losers last night in extras nine to eight, valiant effort

in the comeback. What does that mean to you? I mean when you're down big and your team comes back ties it at seven, down six, zip at one point, ties it at seven, giving you hope, pushing it to extra innings only to lose nine to eight. Cleveland now seven and two in extra frames? What does it mean to you anything at all? Look Urschella and Keith and molloy all homer, but Detroit makes two more errors, one by Maeta, one by Perez, and speaking of Maeta, he

continues to stink up the ballpark. You know, when a guy like Parker Meadows or Spencer Turkulsen or a kill Badou struggle, they get sent down. That's because they have options, right, That's It's an easy understanding. When a veteran like kent To Maeta on a two year contract making fourteen million dollars this year, struggles, they keep trying them out there. There's not a

whole lot they can do unless he comes up with some mysterious injury. Kent To Mayeta allows six runs, seven hits, two home runs in two and two thirds innings. It's one thing struggling, It's one thing losing. It's another thing not giving your team, not just a chance to win. That's an easy cliche that many of us use on a pretty regular basis, and I have to quite a bit because I do think there's something to be said for that. But it's another thing, not even lasting enough to rest your

bullpen. These are taxing starts for Kent Tamaieta, and I don't mean taxing for him, I mean taxing for the bullpen. I mean it throws things off. You're a manager. You've got a whiteboard, it's not a computer. And you've got all the names. You got Trent Bally, you got Will vest Right, you got all these different guys, Tyler Holden, all these different names, and then you list or you have their availability, last time they pitched, how much they pitched, how he pitches they threw.

This is a guy right now, he's going three and a third, two and two thirds, two winnings, four and two thirds, four innings, four and two thirds, three and two thirds, two and two thirds sucks, I mean it does. It's it's just awful. What's your team supposed to do about something like that? It's horrendous stuff, and it's tough to recover. Here's a guy. You know, the longest he has thrown this year? How many how deep he has gone into a game this year?

Like everybody's talking about the era, and it's it's justified. The era is terrible, right, the era is closer to eight now. But do you know the longest he has gone this year is six innings? Twice? Only happened twice. May first against Saint Louis and got to win. And April thirteenth against Minnesota and he took a no decision. That's as far as he has gone this season. He's gone over ninety pitches just once. And that's not because well, we wanted to get him out of there. He's tiring

a little bit. That's because they have to get him out of there. It's not an experiment. Man, He's supposed to be a key contributor to this pitching staff. When you go into a season and you've got Casey Mize and Trek Scoubel and Jack Flaherty and Rhees Solsen and ken To Maada Kent. Tomayata was supposed to be a guy who's you know, remember Mice is coming off an injury. So this doesn't have anything to do with talent. This has to do with available and how careful you're going to be with a guy.

So you're thinking, well, well, maybe he's he's a back end guy. Reese Olsen, this is his first full season. He's probably a back end guy. You get Flarity and schoobl and Maaida. This is the mindset here. Those guys should be your top three guys. Mi Aida has stunk, Flarity has been injured a little bit. Schoob has been a horse. Olson's been a horse. It's frustrating. Man. My Aida has allowed fifteen runs in his last two starts. You know how long he's lasting in

those two starts? Six and the third innings. That's it. So when people continue to say, how can you trot out Howvey or bias on a regular basis, and I understand that mindset, I don't disagree with it. I'd love to see the Tigers take a stand and say enough is enough, or buy them out. I don't think they have anybody to take his place, but I'd love to see them buy them out. Because the contract is

strapping. It's difficult to overcome. Understand this, You buy them out, it doesn't mean that you're gonna use that twenty three million dollars anyplace else. It's not like they're going to go all right, there's twenty three million freed up now they're paying him. Yeah, and this might sound obvious, but he quite literally is untradable. For anyone out there who thinks maybe you should move him, you can't for sure. I mean you could try and package

him. Hey sent Eric School but you got to take Bayaz too. That might be a deal breaker for a lot of teams. Right, they may go out and say, forget it, I'll go get Garat Crochet. Right, So I understand because I've said it too. You know what, how can you keep trotting out? How your bias? How do you keep trotting out Kuntamata. Let's use our frustration for more than just one player. We use it for one guy because he's been perhaps the biggest disappointment in Tigers were

close to it in recent Tiger's free agent history. Is that fair? Yeah? Yeah, I think so. Jordan Zimmerman's probably up there too, right, And Zimmerman was dealing with a ton of injuries, by the way, and he started out remember six and zero, So you're right, it's a great point. But he's also every fifth day. This guy plays a key position, and it is supposed to be an everyday contributor. Little history made for Jose Ramirez, we'll tell you about that, and the home run history

made around Major League Baseball ex'es and bros. Just getting rolling on a Wednesday morning with your glad Thanks for being with us. Bill Simonson Here from my good friend Josh Garvey. Matt Shephard here. Trent Vally is our producer. Give us a call on the Meyer Hoteye eight six six eight three eight forty eight forty three if you can text the program's sports radio to twenty one thousand Tigers lose nine to eight history made last night. Jose Ramirez is the third player in the modern era to be intentionally walked three times and steal two bases in a game. He was intentionally walked in the sixth, in the eighth, and in the tenth.

I got no problem with it, none, because this dude is the most dangerous hitter in their lineup, number one and number two. I respect the hell out of this guy. Honesty, gooness. He's one of He's one of my favorite players. Switch hitter power both sides, steels bases solid, defensively, hits for average. What more do you want? This show has not succumbed to just let's talk about the opposing team's players. This is a guy I have always admired. He goes three for three yesterday and he's

on base six times. You talk about production, Think about this. He goes three for three, scores twice, walks three times, steals two bags. Oh and by the way, he's got seventy seven runs bad at it? You like he You damn right? That's production. What is the difference? It's not the only difference, right, I Mean, Cleveland's good at a lot of things, but one of the primary differences between Cleveland and other teams in this division. Now Kansas City has found it. Okay, Minnesota

to a certain extent, think about it for a minute. And this is not the NBA where you can get two, perhaps three oftentimes needed three superstars or stars. Okay, I don't know if Kyrie Irving's a superstar any longer he was at one point, but he's a star. Him and Luka Doncic the primary reason Dallas played for a championship. Fair enough, Okay, very look at the best teams in baseball and tell me if they don't have at least one superstar or star. How many all stars does that Phillies have?

Yeah, isn't it like six or seven? Well, so that's a good question. Bryce Harper is a superstar. I think Trey Turner is a superstar, and I think j t Rila Muto is a star. Now is Alec Baum? No? Is Nick Castiano's I would say no, is Brandon Marsh. I would say no. Very good players, but I don't think they're stars. I don't think Nick Castianis is a star. But that's my opinion. But for sure they have at least three, and one of them's out for the year in real Muto with a knee and a bunch of guys who

have star moments. Is that fair? Yeah? Absolutely? Absolutely, Like I don't know if I don't know if Baltimore has a ton of superstars. They got stars though, and eventually they're on the they're on the arc a trajector because they're all young. Absolutely right, Yankees got two stars, two superstars they are, and Judge and Won Soda are superstars. Right. Think about it for a second. Boston, Raphael Devers is a is a flipping

superstar. That dude's an unbelievable player. Toronto's got a couple of stars. Minnesota's got Carlos Carrea, he's a star. Kansas City with Bobby wit Junr. We know that. Give me Detroit star, you're gonna say, Trek Schouoble, I get it. All the other guys I've mentioned, they're everyday players. I'm not talking about pictures here. I'm talking about guys who are playing on a regular basis, Guys who can impact a series, not just one game, no doubt, thank you, or can impact every game.

Think about it for just a moment. I would love for it to be Riley Green. I hope this is the beginning of Riley Green's stardom. I can't say that it is yet, but most of the good teams and Texas is just below five hundred. But they're coming off a world championship. They've got plenty of stars. Houston think about it, Atlanta absolutely, the Mets, who are now at five hundred, they've got it. Maybe Milwaukee doesn't. Maybe Christine Yelich used to be right. Will the adamis I don't know.

If he's I wouldn't consider him a star controverst I don't know. But most teams, most of the good teams, they've got star slash superstars. Man Tigers do not. I was thinking about it while watching Ramirez. He's a phenomenal player. He's just under the proverbial radar because probably because he plays in Cleveland. I don't know why more people don't appreciate him. I think Cleveland does. I know Cleveland does, and they should. I've told this

story before. Stop me if i've heard it, Trent. But I remember just a couple of years ago, sitting in the Dugouy with AJ Hinch, and I said, if you could have one player to impact your lineup every single day? Who would it be? He didn't even hesitate. He didn't he didn't pause and look up into the sky and say, let me think about that for me. He said right away, Jose Ramirez third base. Something we need, switch hitter, top of the lineup, guy average power,

speed plus posts. Dude posts every flipping day. I mean, this is the kind of guy. Again, I'm not trying to be Cleveland Radio here, okay, but I just you know, you get a chance to play them, you see them on a regular basis. If you follow baseball at all, you're recognizing what he has done in his career, right and perennial all start not to say that that's gospel, but also shep we're talking about a Guardians team that is top five in the league and has been all

season. Yeah, and that's just if we look at it from the scope of this season. You know, he's been phenomenal now for seven eight years. Oh yeah, man, I mean, he's listen. I don't know. I'm not going to put him in a category about Tani or Freeman or something like that, but I'm telling you right now, this dude is perhaps well, I'll just say it. I think he's the most underrated player in baseball. So he makes another All Star appearance this year. Right, his

set means he six, but he's now made for in a row. Yeah, okay, he's in the MVP top ten on a regular basis. Last year, finished tenth year before, fourth year before that, sixth year before that. Second, finished third in twenty eighteen, finished third in twenty seventeen. He's won six Silver Sluggers the Baller period, absolute baller. Tigers don't

have anybody like that. You want the primary reason, the primary reason Cleveland is where they are, and the reason the reason Cleveland has been as competitive as they've been and winning as much as they've done. Sure, pitching, absolutely, they've had the Corey Kluebers, right, they've had the Shane Biebers absolutely, and they got him annual Class A at the back end. It's all good stuff. But this dude, every single day in your lineup is

a difference maker. He's a threat. And Temley walked him three times last night, all with the game in the balance because you did not want that guy step into the plate right and two stolen bases. So the third player in the modern era to do that, Detroit helped a little history last night. Fifty home runs were hit in Major League Baseball last night, tied for most in the thirteen game schedule. That's impressive. Piston's made some news too,

but it's news that you already knew. We'll get to that, and we'll get to some good NFL discussion coming up here on exes and bros across the great state of Michigan. On a Wednesday morning, he would here from my good friends at Meyer. Now the Meyer Hot Deal Days are happening all week. Get big offers all over the store. Coming up later today at three on the Huge Show in the Michigan Sports Network, I'll deliver huge opinions on everything you're talking about during the break. I looked up ops on base plus slugging.

It's a statistic that the Tigers' front office values. I know this because I've been told this by the Tigers' front office. It's a really important statistic that an OPS plus, which takes into account. Well, it doesn't matter where you play, it doesn't matter your ballpark, so OPS is an important statistic. And in Major League Baseball right now, there are seventeen players, including Jose Ramirez, by the way, who have an OPS of eight sixty,

eight sixty or better. That's an impressive number on base plus slugging, and that's what you've got. Okay, kent to my EIGHTA. This is hard to fathom, it really is. Kent to my EIGHTA. Let me just say this before we get rolling here. The league average for a team is seven oh six OPS. Bloss or ops. The league average is seven zero six. Tigers are among the worst in that category, but that shouldn't surprise you. That's the league average. Kent to my EIGHTA. Has allowed opponents

an OPS of eight seventy one. There are seventeen players who are eight sixty or better. That may be too many numbers for you, but that's why I've repeated it a couple times. Like Aaron Judge and Shoeyo Tani are off the flipping charts. They're over a thousand ops. Gunnar Henderson nine eighty three, the league average is seventy seven zero one, and Kent Tamaeta has allowed one hundred points higher than that. That's how bad he has been. I'm

giving you a perspective here that's nuts, absolutely nuts. And it makes sense when you start reading off how many innings he's gotten through Chef you did that a couple segments ago. Yeah, you can't go five. He's getting shelld Think about how much that handcuffs and manager Trent, Yeah, you know your bullpen will be taxed today. Two and two thirds innings is what he gives you yesterday. And these are the things that oftentimes I think our audience pays

attention to it and understands it. Okay, but think about this. The Tigers last night needed to use four relievers. Now Cleveland used more, but they used him for less innings. Joey Wentz two and a third, Bowbrisky two and two thirds, Andrew chaff In an inning, Will Vest one in a third. That doesn't mean none of them are available tonight. They are, Okay, Chaffin's available, West or vest I should say, I need to look at his h how many games in a row he's thrown? But

well, Cleveland's got they used more pitchers. But remember Nick Sandlin used eight pitches, Scott Barlow had fourteen pitches. Class A used nine pitches. That's not a big deal. Here's Detroit's pitchers. You're ready. My Ada throws forty nine, Wentz uses sixty five, Brisky thirty Chafe. In twenty Vest twenty nine, Detroit threw more than fifty pitches more than Cleveland, and Cleveland

used an extra bullpen arm. Now you may not think fifty pitches is a lot, but in a perfect world, what you're doing is you're using about fifteen to sixteen pitches in an inning to get them out. That's what you'd like. So fifty pitches, what is that? Another three and a half may almost four innings? Yep, of guys. Now you maybe think I'm reaching. There might be some people driving, there might be some people listening. Wherever it is. You may be listening and thinking, oh, man,

come on, you're really pushing, you're really reaching it. No, no, no, these are things that managers, pitching coaches, assistant pitching coaches. Robin Lund who is the assistant pitching coach Chris Fetter to the pitching coach, they are all monitoring. They are making these guys this is taxing stuff well, and these are facts too. This is not opinion based.

The proofs in the pudding. You can tell me you're getting bored with numbers, But the reason chefs bringing you the numbers is because it's important to contextualize just how bad my ATA has been and how it affects them moving forward.

It jeopardizes your bullpen for the rest of the series. Is the bottom of game exactly exactly when a guy can't throw five innings, when a guy can't even throw four innings half the time, and you're using three four relievers to finish the game, and most likely you're losing that game because he got shelled so early. It's a lose lose, And not just that, it's even the fact that your relievers, your relievers have to use as many pitches as

they do. That's a problem when you're out there and you can't get those outs. You can't get the quick outs I don't always expected. Okay, I'm not talking about doing a bugs buddy, one two, three strikes, you're out, one two, three strikes, you're out, and doing that repeatedly. No, I'm realistic when it comes to this stuff. I understand

it. I understand the challenges, okay, but when you see it on a pretty regular basis, man, it takes It takes a lot out of you when you got to march to the mound as often as aj Hinch does when kent to my ada is pitching. Now, what what this might do though? What many people may look at this and say, well, then why aren't you letting other guys go deeper? So Montero yesterday, I think he would he throws seventy three pitches something like that. Trent, Yeah,

I can double check for you, perhaps something like that. So that's a problem. So the league average, Detroit is well well below the league average when it comes to total pitches thrown. Phone number the Meyer hotline is eight sixty six eight three eight forty eight forty three. The text line sports Radio to twenty one thousand. I had teased that Pistons made some news, but something you already knew. They made it official. Cad Cunningham signs the rookie

Max deal, five year, two hundred and twenty four million dollars. That's the extension. We knew this right a couple of weeks back, Yes, that this was broken. I'm I'm glad it's done. And you know, I don't know how people overall feel about Caid Cunningham because unfortunately for him, I just think people over the last couple of years, when you when you're winning seventeen games and then fourteen games, I just don't think you're grabbing many

people. I don't think there's it's hard to endear yourself to a fan base that doesn't care, and that's not on them, that's on the organization. So it's I don't I'm not blaming kid Cunningham by any stretch. I think he's a really good player. Don't know if he's a great player. I don't know if he's an All Star. We'll see. I think we all reserve the right to be able to say, let's wait and see, let's be patient. We don't have to go out there and say, damn it.

I knew it he was going to be an All Star. I told you this a couple of years ago. People don't remember that stuff. They just don't all right, It's okay to say I like him. I think he's a really solid player. Let's see if he becomes as quote unquote great as a first overall pick should be. But I like this because of what we were just talking about with star players. This guy, Kate Cunningham has a chance to be a star player. Would you agree with that? Absolutely?

If you look at his trajectory, chef, just quickly, he's averaging twenty three points per game last season, career highs almost across the board, three point shooting, all that stuff, and now you're adding in some better shooters around him. He's a ball dominant guy. I love the move me too. Now you bring up an interesting point with the ball dominant guy, I don't know if I I think he for the most part, makes pretty good decisions. Okay, and let's not read too deep into what the assist

level is. But you're averaging seven and a half a CI last year. Because you brought up I think the fact that he averaged twenty three points per game, correct, seven assists per game? Pretty damn good. Now, the turnovers need to be limited, but pretty damn good. If I gave you a player and I said they're going to give you twenty three, seven and a half and even four boards are somewhere in that neighborhood from the guard position, would you take it absolutely, and he's playing a lot of minutes.

He's playing steady minutes at thirty. Each of the last two years he's played over thirty three minutes a game. For you, you take that as

a point guard, no doubt. Tyrese Haliburton, who's on Team USA, got a lot of love last season and rightfully sol for leading the Pacers to an Eastern Conference finals perth twenty points per game, eleven assists, so a little bit better in the passing department, but same idea right ball dominant and by the way, he played sixty nine games last season, so he missed some time. For those who are jumping, what did he shoot? What did he shoot? Forty seven percent? Okay, Cunningham's at forty five.

What's what's Haliburton's three point shooting? Thirty six percent? So a hair better, slightly better cutting Ham's at thirty five and a half percent. All right. I think that's a great example. I'm glad you brought that up. It's an excellent example. I like Jylen Brown a lot, all right. Jylen Brown averaged twenty three points per game. Jylen Brown averaged three and a half assists per game. Okay, remember seven and a half for Caid Cunningham,

three and a half for Jalen Brown. Both averaged twenty three points per game. Both average well, Brown a little bit better on the glass, but look, I'm a point guard. He's a small forward. There's a little difference there, but you would expect that. And he's a better shooter, but not three point shooter. They're the same three point shooting percentage. Brown's better from two point range. Again, a little different, but Brown's

listed as a small forward. He's also sixty six. Kate Cunningham's listed as a point guard. He's six to six, so a little bit more with the ball in his hands, I suppose if you're Kate Cunningham. But he can be our point. Trent him my point. I believe he can be a star for this team. There's I think there's too many people right now who cover this team on a regular base and say say he's a star right now. He's not look at it from a global scope, look at it

from a national scope. Do people in the NBA, be honest, Do they consider Kid Cunningham a star? He's not looking at that way. Don't get I don't believe, not yet that doesn't mean he can't be, but I don't think he is. And a lot of that has had to do with the Piston's lack of success. They've been the worst team in the league three years in a row. So absolutely absolutely. I mean, look,

the stars, folks are guys like Joel Embiid. Jalen Brunson has just pushed himself into that, Damian Lillard, Shay Gilgess, Alexander Anthony Edwards, Anthony Edwards, Luka, Doncicic, right, and a lot of these guys are ours, right, Devin Booker is a star, right, Jason Tatum a star, not that he's a guard, Kyrie Irving. The star is. There are certain guys like I like. I like Pascal Siakam, he's a

really good player. I like Jamal Murray, really good player. I don't know if those guys are stars maybe in their markets, but I'm talking about from the NBA. How do they look at them. Franz Wagner is a really good player, it's not a star, so I think he can be. What do you think, Paul Bunkaro? Do you think he's a star? No? Probably is, Yeah, I don't know. I think he's on a trajectory. Yeah, twenty seven a game. I think he's pretty damn close to it. Twenty seven in the postseason, for yeah, that's

that's correct, that's pretty good. And that's another level of this that we haven't seen with Kate yet. Get to the postseason. How do you perform there? That says a lot. Absolutely. Now, in fairness to those who may argue for Kate Cunningham, he did finish twenty first in the league and scoring a year ago more than bon Carrow as much as Paul George. That's pretty damn good. You'll take that. A guy I just mentioned Siakam

Cunningham's averaging more than he is and he's taking more shots. But you understand my point. I think he has that capability. That's what I like about the signing. It's not one of those well, he's the only guy we got, We're not gonna get anybody else. Let's do it. He's kind of forcing our hand. No, no, no, you don't do this unless you think this guy can be or if he's not already a star.

Now the Pistons may say he is, the rest of the National Basketball Association I think is still waiting, and that's Okay, I believe he has that ability. He has the ability to be a star, more so than probably any Tiger. Although I'm still strong believer in Riley Green's ability, I think he can be and the way cole Keith has recently hit. Not a big fan of his fielding, but the way he has recently shown how he can

hit, you should be happy about this. I said this when he was struggling at the very beginning of the year, while people said send him down, I said, I firmly believe this dude will be a hitter, and he has been and he will continue to be. When all is said and done, by the end of this year, cole Keith will be one of the top three hitters on this team. So I think you're gonna like that.

I don't know if he's going to be a star. I don't necessarily see that because I think in order to be a star, you gotta be able to do a little bit of both. I think Green can do that. But with the signing of Kaid Cunningham, that is absolutely in the cards. So that's good for them. And it's interesting because I think I kind of look at kid Cunningham. Tell me if this is a good or a bad example in your mind? Dylan Larkin. Like, Dylan Larkin's viewed as
