I'm so glad that you're here . You are listening to what the fuck did she just say with your host ? That's me , sandra Priestly . I'm all about living our best life and finding our zone of brilliance and then removing the resistance so that we can go all in .
I say random , crazy shit , which is why I called this podcast the way that I did , and I really hate long drawn out intros . So let's fucking go .
About a year ago , I was watching one of my chefs I don't know who it was , but this person was talking about how to make the perfect holiday meal , and what they had suggested was , a few weeks before , even a month before , choose all of your recipes that you're wanting to use and if there are new ones that you haven't made before , try them out in advance .
The idea is that you'll know what to do , so you're not panicking over a new recipe . But also you can make tweaks or you can discard it and do something different , and I thought at the time well , that's a good idea .
But lately I've been thinking about how that sort of takes the fun out of it , how you're trying to pre-plan everything so much so that there is no excitement to adding in trying a new recipe and I kind of like the messy action . I kind of like that good enough energy . I kind of like that let's just try it and see what fucking happens .
Energy and that is also on Christmas . I remember one year my aunt had taken a Chinese cooking class and I think we had Chinese food on Christmas day . Maybe it was New Year's day Actually . Now I can't remember , but I mean she , it was amazing . It was probably one of the best meals I've had .
That was homemade Chinese food and I remember thinking how fun and how different and how cool it was . And I think in general in business , in life , we spend so much time trying to make things perfect that we never actually live . We never just try things and see what happens . What if we just stepped into that fuck it energy and went you know what ?
What if we painted this wall black ? What would that look like ? Why don't we just go for it and see what happens ? What's the worst case scenario ? That we have to paint it again , that our salad doesn't taste good and everyone can just skip the salad and take more mashed potatoes , right ?
And then I started thinking about two Christmases that stand out the most in my mind and they were the ones that I will never forget . The first one it was a Ukrainian Christmas meal my friend always made . We were living in a small town , we were all away from our family , so we kind of became family .
All of our friends group kind of became family and everyone but me was at least part Ukrainian . And so my friend held a huge Ukrainian Christmas meal and one year I'm not sure if the turkey that she had in the oven was partially frozen in the middle , like I don't .
I still to this day don't know what happened , but she had probably 30 people over for supper Like that would stress me out . But she had so many people she just kept inviting people and inviting people , inviting people , inviting people , and I was helping her in the kitchen and the turkey never got cooked . I'm not joking . We had turkey at 1130 at night .
She was so stressed about the turkey and I'm looking thinking who gets a shit about the turkey ? Because there was so much food . I didn't miss the turkey at all , like I could have easily just had more pierogies . We had snacks , we had turkey at midnight who cares ? And I will never forget that Christmas .
I've had 52 prior Christmases to this and that is one of the Christmases I will never forget and it brings me so many good memories Want to know . The other Christmas that I won't forget . There was just our family . We were still in the small little town and there was just our family and one couple .
We were making the turkey and a bunch of other things and the couple was bringing a few items as well . I put the turkey in . I even phoned my mom asking the exact timing on this turkey . I knew how many hours it was going to be . It was a fairly large turkey . By noon I thought what is happening here ?
Why is this turkey this high on the temperature , the internal temperature , by two o'clock ? I phoned my friend and said okay , I think the turkey's going to be done a little bit early . Maybe do you want to come at like five o'clock , like would that be okay , are you okay ? Yeah , all of our food is ready . We can come by 2.30, . I phoned her .
Turkey's done him by 2.30, . I phoned her Turkey's done I . Still to this day I have no idea how it cooks so fast because it was a huge turkey . We started joking that . I think at that time we were probably in our thirties and we started joking that we were eating like the seniors . Do you know like ? Eat early ?
Eat like a big meal in the afternoon so you can digest it before you go to bed . I will never forget that meal either . I won't forget the laughs . I won't forget the ridiculousness of either of them . I won't forget making that third phone call going yeah , turkey's done .
And I won't forget all of the laughter and all of the fun and all of the things when my friend and I are pulling this dang turkey out at 1130 at night . We spend far too much time just trying to make everything perfect . It's the imperfect moments that make things amazing . It's the imperfect moments that make things amazing .
It's the imperfect moments that bring us the joy . It's the imperfect moments that we remember more . Try the new recipes . Don't worry about being Martha Stewart . Have fun , relax , enjoy and spend time in the moment and have an incredible day . Thank you so much for listening .
I hope you've had some laughs , maybe some ideas , and that you've been inspired to take some type of action toward the life you've always dreamed of . If you feel so called , I would love it if you would share with your besties and leave a review down below . I look forward to bringing you along on this journey and I will see you in the next episode .
