Episode description

Now ... I am a huge fan of Oprah ... and Gabby Bernstein ... Abraham Hicks ... Eckhart Tolle ... Don Miguel Ruiz ...

... but in this episode I talk about a conversation I had with my husband recently while listening to HIS podcast list (and specifically the "Stay Hard" podcast by David Goggins).

The gist is that not EVERYONE is motivated by the same thing.  Some people are motivated by a bootcamp kick-your-ass style personal development (like Goggins).  Some people are motivated by more spiritual messages like Trent Shelton or Gabby Bernstein.  Some times the SAME person needs to switch it up depending on the mood-o-the-moment.

CHOOSE WHAT YOU NEED WHEN YOU NEED IT ... listen while you drive, listen while you cook, listen when you can't sleep or hire a coach like me ;)  ... the help out there is endless you just gotta reach out for it.

Side note:  I talk about how the Kindle app helped me read more quickly and how the Open Dyslexic font is a game-changer for those with reading disabilities!

Exploring David Goggins' Motivational Attitude

Speaker 1

I'm so glad that you're here . You're listening to what the fuck did she just say With your host ? That's me , sandra Presley . I'm all about living our best life and finding our zone of brilliance and then removing the resistance so that we can go all in .

I say random , crazy shit , which is why I called this podcast the way that I did , and I really hate long drawn out intros , so let's fucking go . I'm lucky enough that my husband and I both are very into personal development , very into spiritual development , and we like to talk about it too . We also love podcasts .

So we've been driving together and in our house the driver is the one who controls the music , and so he's always listening to podcasts , and so I am usually digging for my air pod case so that I can put in my air pods , because I am not huge , huge fan of some of the things that he listens to .

He loves investment podcasts like the Jane Martin show , robert Kiyosaki and a few others that I don't remember their names , and so one day we were driving and , or he was driving and I did not bring my air pods , so I was desperately trying to tune out the Jane Martin show and all of a sudden that one ended and a different podcast came on and it was David

Goggins Stay Hard podcast . So all of a sudden I'm listening in a different way and I had to stop and say and ask him who the hell this guy was . And I've been looking him up and I've been listening to some of his stuff and really learning about him and I actually follow him now on my podcast .

And finally , my husband will like , when I'm not looking , he'll try to download different investment investment podcasts on my phone or he'll try to convince our kids that they should be listening to these podcasts . And so , you know , we just kind of tuned him out .

But I've started listening to David Goggins and there's something that I just find fascinating about him Really , because he says things and his philosophy is almost completely polar opposite to anything that I've learned , anything with the law of attraction and so it's really intriguing to me and I love really trying to dig into the way that other people think and their

practices or their methods or what works for them . Because here's the thing , and this is the conversation that my husband and I had . He said not everyone can listen to Oprah every day and be inspired . Not everyone can listen to Gabby Sometimes , when Gabby Bernstein means sometimes you need a little bit of David Goggins . And so I started listening .

Now David Goggins is a retired Navy SEAL . He's also like , just for fun , he'll run 70 miles For fun . I don't even want to run to the mailbox and back . We don't really get along on that level , me and David .

But what I thought was really interesting was he has this boot camp style kind of an attitude about him , and I mean , of course , because he's retired Navy SEAL , right , and so he says things that are motivating to him . But it's almost like this bring it on , I don't give a fuck what you say , I'm going to prove you wrong , kind of an attitude .

It's like it spurs him on . He wrote a book called Can't Hurt Me , master your Mind and Defy the Odds , which is totally him . Now he was almost 300 pounds . I think he said he was almost 300 pounds on two different occasions and he just had this like you want to call me fat Roger that ?

He always says Roger that , but you want to call me fat Roger that , fuck you Kind of an attitude . And it's like no matter what people say to him , it can't hurt him .

Exploring Different Perspectives on Personal Development

I read that at one point he actually had a playlist that he listened to , I think , while he ran , of all of the negative things that people said about him . Now I would probably be , I would be crying in the corner just from the run itself . Not to mention the things , the negative things that people say .

And if I think about the law of attraction , if I think about Abraham Hicks , who I also listened to , or Gabby Bernstein spiritual teacher I could tell you or Oprah , or Eckertolle my husband and I also love Eckertolle the Power of Now . Or agreement Ston McGill-Ruehwez we read . Why should I say we ? I mean , he reads more books than me .

I recently have started reading on a Kindle app . Now , ok , side note here . You know I do not like to read . I love to buy books , I love the feel of them , I like to look at them on my nightstand , I like the feel of the pages , I like flipping the pages , I like using highlighter , highlight this stuff .

But , like you know what , I'm not reading it because I get really tired when I'm reading . So I'll read two or three pages and my brain just gets tired . However , I am a rock star with the Kindle app on the iPad Now . So , if you have , if you have like the same issues as me .

Whereas , like , you would love to read , you like to look at the cover of books . You think , oh my gosh , this book looks amazing . I totally need the information . But maybe you're not that into podcast or not podcast audiobooks , like . The thing with audiobooks for me is I love to read or listen to them . Sorry , I love to listen to them .

Like , where do I get to pause ? I got to pause and write notes , like there's so many things that I don't want to lose the memory of , so it's not helpful when I'm listening to an audiobook and I got to hit pause and then take notes , like I'm in a fucking university class . I don't want to do that . So then what do I do ?

Well , now I'm a rock star with the Kindle app on my iPad , because you can change the font to open dyslexic , and so what that is is the words . The letters are thinner at the top and thicker at the bottom , and so it allows your eyes to sort of like grounds the words that they're not sort of . Your brain doesn't move them around on the page .

Oh my gosh , I can read so much back story you have no idea , and more accurate as well . So I love it for that reason . Also , I love the fact that you can highlight in this Kindle app and then there's like you've got a running tab of all the cool shit you read . Um , hello , that is the most amazing thing ever , anyway .

So I mean I'm listening to Matthew McConaughey , or I was reading in the Kindle app Matthew McConaughey's green lights read that in a weekend . I'm not kidding . Where is my fucking crown for that ? Because I don't recall ever reading a book in a weekend . So that's amazing . Please give me a crown , um .

But what I really found was interesting and what I really wanted to come on here and say is that I think a lot of the times we start to listen to one person and while I think that's great we have this vast array of people we can learn from and I think too often we kind of get stuck just listening to one person . I loved Oprah when .

I still love Oprah , but when I was growing up , what I loved about Oprah was that she would interview with a ton of different people about a ton of different stuff . I first learned about Eckhart Tolle in the power of now because I was watching Oprah and the power of now was one of in her book club .

Also , don Miguel Ruiz for agreements also learned from Oprah . And was Gabby Bernstein not on Oprah ? I feel like she was All of these people like I love the vast array of advice and I love that it's different and I really resonated with this idea . That my husband said is like we don't always need Gabby , sometimes we need that kick in the ass .

And it really sort of depends in my mind anyway how I'm feeling . Am I a little bit too in my feminine ? Am I like to the point of wounded feminine right Like ? Am I too laid back to the point where I'm not actually taking action ? If that's the case , what will bring me balance is a little bit more David Goggins , move your fucking ass , prisley .

I mean that kind of energy is inspiring to me . I recently got with a given , a gift . It was by my podcast co-host , lee Cuban , and she has the same little plaque and it says oh shoot , what does it say ? Now it's not in my office anymore , I put it about my fridge , but it says you did not wake up to be a weak-ass bitch .

And that's similar to the David Goggins kind of boot camp movie fucking ass bracelet kind of an attitude Sometimes . Sometimes I need that . Sometimes I need more soft , like Gabby Bernstein . Sometimes I need that like more religious aspect , like the prayers that I get from Trent Shelton .

He has the podcast straight up with Trent Shelton and Trent is an ex NFL player and he was only in the NFL , I think , for a few years until he had to leave because of injuries .

But you know , he said he's considered okay , he's considered one of the most impactful speakers of this generation and get this he has 60 million people a week listening to him 60 million Is that not the most incredible thing you've ever heard ? He wrote a book called the Greatest . You Face Reality , release Negativity and Live your Purpose .

So he's not entirely like Gabby . He's a little bit more straight up , like you know , get your crap together , but he does the most amazing short little prayers . I just love them .

So sometimes I need Gabby , sometimes I need Eckertolley , sometimes I need Trent Shelton , sometimes I need David Goggins and I believe that sometimes I just need my own advice , because my own stuff is based on 51 years of learning , 51 years of personal development , 51 years of experiencing life , as they say , and working through it , because I've been learning about

personal development and spiritual development my entire life . It's not often that someone can say to me that they've read a different book or that they've listened to a different podcast , that I will not instantly go and see what that person has to say and see if there's something that I can take away from me , from my clients .

But what's important as well is not necessarily exactly what they say , but it's how we interpret it . I fully believe that each person that I come in contact with , each podcast that I listen to , each book that I've read on the Kindle , it becomes part of my knowledge base . But it becomes who I am .

And once we can take that information and we can internalize it to the point where we embody it , that's when it becomes powerful . And that's why , when I can listen to information and relay it in a way that really speaks to me because I've lived it myself , I've embodied that myself and I can give that to my clients that's where the power lies .

It's in the practice , it's in the embodiment . It's not in reading a course , reading a book . We're learning some knowledge and regurgitating it to someone else .

It's reading it or listening to it and really internalizing it , rolling it around up there in your brain , trying it on and really understanding it on a personal level , to the point where it changes who you are . That's when that information becomes so powerful to share with other people .

So all that to say , if you're still listening , I have a course that I'm running in January . It's called the power of the power of you . I love this course because every time I run it , I add to it every time because I change . But what I want everyone to know is that there is power within you . You have the power to change your life .

You have the power to change the way you see the world . You have the power to change your emotional response . You have the power to step into the person you came here to be . What I love about this course is that every single time I run it , it has new concepts . It has new lessons that I've learned because , hey , I live life too .

I teach it in a different way , I speak it in a different way , I say it in a different way . I feel like every single time I run the course , I learn more about me than I ever knew was possible , and the clients that I've had that take the course over and over and over again . They say the same .

It's the reason why I read Eckhart Tolle more than once , because sometimes , when the very first time I read or Eckhart Tolle , I read the book because Oprah told me to . So I grabbed the book and she said it was life-changing , totally transformational through her , like wow . So I thought , okay , if it transformed Oprah , I got to read it .

I picked up the book and I'm telling you I found it so hard to understand . It was just like I thought what planet does this dude live on ? Because I do not get it . There was a point in the book that said something like if you're not resonating with it , it's because you're so stuck in the patterns that you had before . I thought , dang , this is me .

I thought I was pretty open to learning new things , but apparently not the next time I read . It was a low part in my life . I started reading the book and I literally thought what the hell ? How did I not get this before ? This dude is transformational , just like Oprah said . How could I not listen to it before ? How can I not understand it before ?

And now , totally by in this step , I mean I can read it . It makes sense , it makes me feel better . It's because every single time we decide to up-level , we learn and we glean something different and it becomes a part of us .

So if you're wanting to join the Power Review , I'd love for you to join us , and I have a really cool resale on because we're only starting January 2024 . But I've got a really cool resale .

Anyone who joins up until we start will get access to my private coaching for the time from now until the end of the program and my private coaching group and any of the master classes and courses that I've got in that group as well . And if not , if that doesn't feel right for you , what I want you to know is there , I promise you .

If you this is like therapist if you're trying to listen to a Gabby Bernstein podcast and it's just not resonating with you now or it's just not hitting you the way that it was , seek out other podcasts and seek out ones with a different feel , with a different vibe .

You might just be needing a little bit more of the masculine strength , or maybe you're needing a little bit more of the feminine strength . Maybe you're needing a little bit more of the bootcamp style or less of it . Everyone is different , but we also always change . We change and we should , so be open to trying something new . Thank you so much for listening .

I hope you've had some laughs , maybe some ideas , and that you've been inspired to take some type of action toward the life you've always dreamed of . If you feel so called , I would love it if you would share with your besties . Leave a review down below . I look forward to bringing you along this journey and I will see you in the next episode .
