Episode description

I had avoided journaling for 50-ish years and now, I’m obsessed with it.

I’ve heard from so many of you, as to why you avoid it but I’m positive I can convince you otherwise.

in this episode I’ve shared a few strategies for you to try!!!   (I have more …. But this podcast is under 15 min 😉)

365 Days of Transformation Through Journaling

Speaker 1

I'm so glad that you're here . You are listening to what the fuck did she just say with your host ? That's me , sandra Priestly . I'm all about living our best life and finding our zone of brilliance and then removing the resistance so that we can go all in .

I say random , crazy shit , which is why I called this podcast the way that I did , and I really hate long drawn out intros . So let's fucking go On a whim . On December 31st of 2022 , I looked back and thought shit , where would I have been if I had just journaled every single day ? What would I have accomplished ?

And I thought that's what I'm going to do . I'm going to commit to 365 days of journaling in 2023 . Journaling in 2023 .

That night , I created a group called the Power Project because I really believe that if we can journal through our limiting beliefs and all of our negative bullshit thoughts and we can really use journaling in a way that I knew worked for me and really sort of shifted the way I understood journaling to be , I felt like it would be massively transformational and I

wanted to take women with me . So that night , I threw together an offer and I asked women .

I just advertised it a very probably for seven days I'm thinking , and I committed to 365 days of journaling and I was going to take women with me and I was just going to share my thoughts and share what I was learning about myself and what I was learning about journaling and I really feel like that year I shifted what journaling and I really feel like that

year I shifted what journaling was . There were women who joined the journaling group and still couldn't commit to it and there were women that committed to it and they started off in a certain way and then they shifted and made it even more powerful for them and there were women who literally said it saved them . It saved them from themselves .

One of the things that I noticed that I didn't anticipate was so many women that would come to me and say well , I would love to be able to journal .

Every single time someone says I can't journal because or this is why I'm resisting it , I feel like there are so many different ways that we can think outside the box and I mean outside the box is the only place I live .

So I feel like there's so many ways that we can like really be outside the box in order to make that journaling practice feel safe in order to make that journaling practice feel safe .

Because , let's face it , if you feel as though you're going to write in a journal and someone is going to read it and be pissed off or be upset or be hurt by it , you're never going to feel safe enough to do the damn thing . So here's the thing that I love to do .

Number one you can easily burn , like you can easily burn the stuff that you're going to write , right ?

So if that's what you want to do , if you want to burn your pages every single day or shred your pages and take them out to the garbage everything every day what I love about this , actually , is that when you write out all of your limiting beliefs and all of your fears and all of your , like , negative emotions or unwanted emotions and all the things you want

to release , when we can do that and then physically either burn the piece of paper or shred it into little pieces and take it into the garbage , it is cathartic as hell . Because here's the thing so many people have this belief that they can't write out their negative thoughts .

But the problem is , their negative thoughts are like toxic poison in the back of their minds . Anyway , it's there . You're not going to start to uncover some deep , dark secret . All you're doing is putting onto paper the shit that's rolling around in the back of your mind , anyway , in order to release it . We want to release it .

Journaling Strategies for Emotional Release

It is you know how you wake up in the middle of the night and you're thinking to yourself oh my gosh , I got to remember to call , I got to remember to do this , I got to remember to send this email . I got to remember , you know , I forgot to , I don't know , pay the water bill .

And what happens is we wake up in the middle of the night and we're panicking and we can't really go back to sleep because it's like in the back of our mind , these thoughts are going don't forget me , don't forget me , don't forget me , don't forget me , don't forget me . What changes that ?

Grabbing a piece of paper , having a piece of paper and a pen on your nightstand , getting up , writing down , remember to pay the water bill and then closing the you know , putting the pen down and then you go right to sleep because your brain is not having to remember the damn thing . When we journal out our negative crap , that's what happens . We're just .

It's like clearing out the cobwebs , getting rid of it . And so , realistically , if you are fearful that someone is going to read your journal , then what do we do ? Make sure they don't read it .

So either you can burn the pages , you can shred them , or , my personal favorite open up a Word document , and this is what I learned from a coach of mine Open up a Word document , turn the background to black .

Okay , if you are going to like , journal out all your sad thoughts , your angry thoughts , like all of the negative , unwanted emotions , turn your page to black and then , all of a sudden , your typing will be in white . Okay , then turn on some music and I want you to say dear universe , dear God , dear whomever .

This is how I'm feeling now , and I want you to write all the negative shit out and then say I release this all now . There's a full sentence that is beautiful there , because you want to release it . So write it all out until you can't write anymore and then go I release this all now and I choose to believe and then write out amazing stuff .

Or I release this all now , lord , what would you have me do ? Like , whatever your sort of beautiful turning point is , and then hit delete on it . No one's going to see it when you hit delete on it , right ? There's so many different ways that you can use journaling as a strategy . Not a journal prompt , necessarily , but a strategy .

I'm telling you , I don't think that there is any excuse against journaling that you could come at me with that , I would suggest . There's no answer to it is always going to be journaling . It is such a freeing opportunity to really just release the toxicity that is in the backs of our minds , because those thoughts are not real .

They are things that are trying to keep you safe , but also , in the process , they're keeping you small . And who wants negative , fearful thoughts , right ? None of us . So those are a couple of tips for people who are not feeling safe to journal their negative stuff out .

Here's the other thing A lot of times we start out and we feel uncomfortable just going to the dark side right away , right ? So one of the things that we can do is choose a strategy , to do a visualization for what we want .

If you feel that it is too traumatic to go there , to that negative side , then don't Just choose a strategy that really lifts you up and propels you forward so that you can focus on what you do want instead of thinking all of the thoughts in the back of your mind of what you fear , all of the thoughts in the back of your mind of what you fear .

So those are a couple journal strategies that have really , really worked for me . They've worked for many of the women that were in the power project in 2023 . I swear that journaling has been something that I resisted to the point where , like , it was my full-time job , almost you know .

And so the fact that I resisted to the point where , um , like it was my full-time job , almost you know . And so the fact that I am sitting here saying to you that journaling will change your life is a shocker to probably me , is the biggest shocker to me , but I swear that it will will .

It changes everything because , especially when you journal to feel better , in whatever way whether that's journaling out your negative stuff or whether it is journaling out a visualization of what you want the whole goal for you to manifest your dream life is to feel fucking better .

If you are not doing the things every single day to make you feel better , you're just holding yourself back .

Ignite Transformation Through Action

So journaling to me , coaching also , I mean all of these things . They combine together so that you can release all of the negative shit , all of the stuff that's holding you back , so you can step into the person that you came here to be and man at the end of our lives .

I want to make sure that I've gone all in and I want to make sure that you have too . Let's fucking go . Thank you so much for listening . I hope you've had some laughs , maybe some ideas , and that you've been inspired to take some type of action toward the life you've always dreamed of .

If you feel so called , I would love it if you would share with your besties and leave a review down below . I look forward to bringing you along on this journey and I will see you in the next episode .
