Choosing a Practical Christmas Tree Placement

Speaker 1

I'm so glad that you're here . You are listening to what the fuck did she just say with your host , that's me , sandra Priestly . I'm all about living our best life and finding our zone of brilliance and then removing the resistance so that we can go all in .

I say random , crazy shit , which is why I called this podcast the way that I did , and I really hate long drawn out intros . So let's fucking go . Welcome back to another episode of what the fuck did she just say . And today is Friday , so , as always , we talk about Feng Shui .

On Feng Shui Fridays , my husband and I have been talking it's our annual chat about where to place our Christmas tree . When our kids were really young , we went out . We put them in the car seats and we went out and we cut our own tree down like the Clark Griswold Christmas . We cut our tree down and we brought it into the house and it smelled wonderful .

Now , since we've moved and we're into this house , we just purchase a tree from like Canadian Tire . Here's the thing they're always pretty , they're always great , they're not nearly as good as the ones that we cut down ourselves and they don't smell like . How is it possible that Christmas trees don't smell like Christmas trees , like I don't know .

Also , one year we got it and I'm pretty sure it was dead when we got it . So you know that doesn't happen when you cut them down yourself . Note to self , I think next year we have to go out and get a permit and go and cut down our own Christmas tree , anyway .

So my husband bought a Christmas tree this year and every single year we have the same discussion when should we put the tree ? My husband wants to put it in the main living space by our TV . Now , I do like it there . I do like it there . I like that it gives off this pretty glow at night . I like that we get to enjoy it all the time .

But , quite honestly , are the way that our living room is set up . If you sit in one spot of the couch , you can't see the TV . That just feels annoying to me . Also , sometimes we have to like walk around the tree and I you know it's just , it's not an ideal place , it's not in an ideal place . We've talked about maybe putting it in the dining room .

He doesn't like that idea either and , quite honestly , the presents wouldn't fit there very well . I want to place it downstairs , where it's out of the way .

It looks pretty to any of my neighbors I guess in the backyard , but it's a place where it's really pretty if we happen to go downstairs , but we don't always go there , so I get where he's coming from .

Here's the thing , though we're choosing where we're going to put the tree based on where it's practical , and this is like Sandra Priestly's practical feng shui tip here , because I think what happens sometimes is that when we we overthink , we overanalyze , and if you Google where should I put my Christmas tree as per feng shui , you're going to get a whole bunch of

different things . If you Google and you happen to land on a Western feng shui page , you're going to get place your tree in an area that aligns with what you want to enhance in your life . Now , that is very true . Where you place your tree . If it lands in a certain area , well , it will land in a certain area of the Bagua map .

It will enhance that area of your life , which is super cool , right ? But that is not the way we choose to decide where we're going to put our tree . If you've got all of the options in the world , go for it , but , like , we just choose where it's practical .

So feng shui Western feng shui would say you know , if you want more wealth , you're going to put it in the far left corner of your home . That happens to be the wealth guo .

According to Western feng shui and the type that I practice , which is BTB , maybe you want fame and recognition to improve in your life , so that would be the back center of your space , like the back middle guan if you think of your space as a tic-tac-toe board .

But if you're following compass school feng shui , the practitioners , if you want to increase fame , they would tell you to put it in the south area of your home . If you wanted to improve your family situation , they would say the east . If you want to improve your wealth situation , they would say the east .

If you want to improve your wealth , they would say southeast for wealth . And the , the trees , wood , energy supports all of those areas . Now here's the thing if you're googling , do you see how you could get massively confused ? Do you follow the compass ? Like , what about the compass ? And what about the flying stars and all of the rest of this shit ?

And what about ? Sorry , it's not shit , but like what and what do you mean , is it the South Is wealth , is what it is Southeast for wealth ? Or is it the back left corner , like the back left corner of my house is not the Southeast ? What am I going to do ?

Do I need to move so that I go to a place where my house , where my wealth , is the Southeast corner ? No , I really do . Like Sandra , school of practical feng shui , I talk about like what makes you feel good , what just lights you up , what , marie Kondo , sparks the joy for you .

Place it where it's practical for your family , place it where it's practical for you and where you like to enjoy it , and like let the rules go , don't worry about where to put it . Now , what I will say is , once you figure out where you want to put it , once you figure out what area you think your tree looks best in , go for it . Grab the Bagua map .

I will place a link to my Bagua map in the show notes so that you can see where these things are . Which area of your home is related to wealth , which area of your home is related to relationships . Which area of your home is related to career , which area of your home is related to helpful people travel .

I mean it's super cool , but don't choose the area of your home and end up putting I don't know like stuffing your Christmas tree right next to the kitchen , where it's in an odd shape or odd place . You know what I mean . Like just choose and relax and then later go .

Choose and relax and then later go , hey , for fun , let's see what area of our home equals what area of our life . For fun , let's see what area of our home , what bagua area of our home we placed our tree in and what area of our life have we just given more energy to . That is a way more fun , less rigid , less stuffy way to decorate .
