Hi, my name is T-Chaka and welcome to the Wrong to Strong two minute devotional. And today I want to discuss the difference between joy and happiness. And the reason why I bring these two words up is because in my life, I hear people talk about seeking happiness more than they seek joy. And I want to point out why we should seek joy more. In the Bible, I found in the New King James Version, joy is mentioned, I believe, over 150 times, while happiness is mentioned less than 10 times.
And with all the verses that I found, this one stuck to me the most. In John 15:11 Jesus says, These things have spoken to you, that my joy remain in you, and that your joy may be full.
So there's something that seems more fulfilling about joy, and I found some differences between happiness and joy, like happiness is more external, and it's based on circumstances and events, while joy is more internal, it's more relational, duration of happiness is temporary, while joy is more permanent, joy is more dependent on God's promises and presence.
And the last thing is, when we're in trials, you don't really see much happiness, but joy can still be there in the trials, and we can give the glory to God. The other thing about joy is one of the fruits of the Spirit, and joy helps us stay strong in our faith, and help us to be unwavering in it. So, that's why it's so much more important. And, I know many times in my life, the joy and the relationship I've had with God.
I've given Him the glory, even the hardest times in my life, and it helps me to stay strong and to know that He is always with me. So with that said, my name is T-Chaka and I am wrong to strong
