Hello and welcome back to my podcast, WOW IN THE WORLD. I'm your host as always, Beryl. I hope you have a fantastic day so far or whenever you're listening to this podcast. If you like what you hear right now, please subscribe and enjoy your episodes. On today's show, I'm going to be talking about the big, big news that grossed the global attention of Thursday night that is the first 2024 presidential debate between President Biden and former President Donald Trump.
During the 90-minute debate, two candidates mainly discussed a range of issues that have already on the campaign trail, including economy, abortion, immigration, foreign policy, inflation, and wars in Ukraine and Gaza. About the performance of the night was described as weak, rambling answers by the current President Biden and lies in misstatements by his rival Trump.
Their showdown featuring personal attacks, Biden highlighted Trump's criminal convictions Trump responded by invoking Biden's son Hunter, who was also recently convicted. Biden accused Trump of having sacks with poor stars, stormy Daniels, while Trump's wife was pregnant. Biden is 81-year-old, three years and seven months older than Donald Trump. It was the first time that offered voters a rear side-by-side look at the two oldest candidates ever to seek the U.S. presidency.
The debate has sparked a wave of discussion about whether Biden could step aside as the Democratic candidate for president, though replacing him would be challenging. In today's episode, I summarized six takeaways from the state and debate in Atlanta, unfolding the highlights of the two candidates in what international media called, quote-unquote, a reality show. In the last episode of the show, Biden's age problem just got a lot worse.
The most important job for Biden on Thursday night was to put arrest voters concerns about his biggest vulnerability, his age. During the whole debate, Biden was harsher and at times unintelligible. Words often ran together, his thumbboats particularly when he tried to side-stertestics in the legislation. At one point, after Biden had drilled up as he defended his record on border security, Trump said, I really don't know what he said at the end of their sentence.
On the total initiative relative to what we can do with more border patrol and more asylum officers. President Trump? I really don't know what he said at the end of their sentence. I don't think he knows what he said either. Look. Take away two, Biden's one-liner offense. Throughout the debate, Biden's offensive strategy was to again and again deploy one-liners to ding Trump. Some of the lines were standard Biden fear. Every single thing he said is a lie.
He shot at the former president at one point. Very sad day, in America. President Biden, you have the mic. Every single thing he said is a lie. Every single one. In another, he said, I've never heard so much more like him. My whole life, look. And in a potentially bright spot for Biden, the president highlighted a 2020 report by the Atlantic that Trump had referred to American war dad as suckers and losers. He invoked his sample who died of brain cancer after he was exposed to toxic films.
And he told me, should I don't want to go in there because there are too many losers and suckers. My son was not a loser, he was not a sucker. You're the sucker. You're the loser. Take way three, Trump makes news with abortion-pew stands. In a debate dominated by discussion on the economy, inflation, and foreign policy, abortion should have been Biden's strongest topic. Instead, it was one of his worst moments of the night. Here's the deal.
There's a lot of, well, young women to be raped by their, either in laws, by their spouses, brothers and sisters. Biden struggled to explain his party's stance on abortion, rambled, appeared confused at times, give Trump an opening to bring up crimes migrants have committed against Americans. Take way four, a widespread about Israel in Gaza. There's no doubt that Trump would handle the war in Gaza much differently than Biden. But how? Let Israel finish the job, hit by Biden.
The suggestion being that the president has done too much to restrain the Israel government and its military bombardment of Palestinians in Gaza. Trump did not see whether he would back a Palestinian state, but did insist that Hamas October 7 attack inside Israel would have never happened if he had been in the White House at a time. He also said that Biden has become like a Palestinian, but they don't like him. We saved Israel.
We are the biggest producer of support for Israel of anyone in the world. He said, job, he doesn't want to do it. He's become like a Palestinian, but they don't like him because he's a very bad Palestinian. He's a weak one. Biden didn't offer too much himself. He talked up Americans close alliance with Israel and made a special note that the US is providing Israel with all the weapons they need and when they need them.
The next president, Bay of Biden or Trump, will have a massive job to do in the region. And that's especially true in Israel and Gaza. Where when the fighting ends, the US and other world powers will be caught up on to negotiate some kind of peaceful path forward. But as their performances on Thursday night showed, there are no easy answers and the hard truth will be difficult to come by. Take way 5. The immigration section of the debate was mostly memorable for Biden's stumble.
How the debate Trump turned the topic to immigration, accusing Biden of opening up the safest border in the world to terrorists and the prisoners. We are living right now in a ruts nest. They're killing our people in New York, in California, and every state in the union because we don't have borders anymore. Every state is now a border. Because of his ridiculous, insane and very stupid policies, people are coming in and they're killing our citizens.
The level that we've never said, we call it migrant crime. I call it Biden migrant crime. They're killing our citizens. But Trump didn't directly answer a question about whether the severe immigration crack down he has promised would involve deporting those who have been in a United States for decades, those with jobs and those who espouse our US citizens. Biden who has sought to emphasize that illegal border crossings have dropped recently and shocked back every single thing he said was alive.
Take away six. Trump take on foreign policy blame Joe. As the former president tells it, the current one is not doing such a great job. Like so many politicians, this man is just a complainer. He said we want to do this. We want to do that. We want to get rid of this tax, that tax. But he doesn't do anything. He doesn't do only, does his make our country unsafe by allowing millions and millions of people to pour in. Our military doesn't respect him. We look like fools in Afghanistan.
We didn't stop. Israel was such a horrible thing that would have never happened. It should have never happened. Iran was broke. Anybody that did business with Iran, including China, they couldn't do business with the United States. They all passed. Iran was broke. They had no money for Hamas or his book. Trump painted a bleak picture of the world and global politics during the Biden era. He also again refused to make a clear commitment to NATO.
Instead, bragging about his efforts to get members up to date on their dues, putting his terms for ending the war he said were not acceptable, but only after being pressed on the issue. The truth Mr. Biden needs to confront now is that he failed his own test. Anderson, this was a game-changing debate in the sense that right now as we speak, there is a deep, a wide and a very aggressive panic in the Democratic Party. It started minutes into the debate and it continues right now.
It involves party strategists, it involves elected officials, it involves fundraisers. And they are having conversations about the president's performance, which they think was dismal, which they think will hurt other people down the party in the ticket, and they're having conversations about what they should do about it. Some of those conversations include should we go to the White House and ask the president's step aside.
Others, or other of the conversations, are about should prominent Democrats go public with that call. As they feel this debate was so terrible. Mr. Biden is not the man he was four years ago. After the event, most observers focused heavily on Biden's similar poor performance, well-pinned Trump's many-ung truth and exaggerations far less attention. And now some Biden supporters are hoping he will quit the race and allow another candidate to replace him.
In the history of presidential election suggests that a candidate who seems strong often beats the one who is weak. The next presidential debate is scheduled for September 10 and will be hosted by ABC News, and will be looking forward to the next performance between the two candidates. That is all of the show.
