Have you seen the one where I tested how many rubber bands it takes to make a watermelon explode? No! Oh. Well, guess!
Okay, let me guess. Two rubber bands and you just tie it around the watermelon real tight? Oh, no. It takes a lot more than two rubber bands, Grandma G-Force. Ah, chicken slippers. The scientific game show that separates the wows from the what? And the category or theme for today is teeth. Now that we know the theme, Mindy, why don't you refresh our contestants on how the game works? You got it, Guy.
¶ Round 1: Narwhal Tusks
Wowzers, in each of our three rounds today Guy Raz and I will present you with three scientific statements about teeth Bye! And this is a big but. Only one of those statements will be a true wow. The other two, just a couple of made up. Now, in each round, if you guess correctly, congratulations, you win a point. But if you guess incorrectly, you must stop, drop, and do a ridiculous physical challenge.
Okay, everyone ready to get this show going? Great, then let's get to it. Okay, round one. Which of the following statements is a true scientific wow? Is it A... Grandma G-Force was the first U.S. citizen to wear braces. Or is it B? Narwhal tusks are actually teeth. Or is it C? Cat teeth never stop growing. When you think you have the correct answer, chomp your own teeth. Let's give you a few seconds to think on it. Reggie, cue the thinking music.
is up. Let's now reveal the winning wow. And to do just that, it's Ben from Illinois. Oh, Ben, tell us, what's the winning wow? is that the normal touch is really a tooth. Contestants, if you guessed the answer B, that narwhal tusks are actually teeth, well, congratulations, you found the winning wow. Exact Doritos, Guy Raz. These arctic toothed whales typically only have one visible tooth, but it's one really long tooth.
That's right, Mindy. The narwhal's giant canine tooth can reach lengths of up to nine feet. That's about the height of two ten-year-olds. Scientists are amazed that narwhals can even still eat large fish, even though they only... have two teeth and those teeth are outside of their mouths and that's the tooth I mean true now if you did not get that answer correct you must stop drop and brush your teeth
¶ Round 2: Snail Teeth Facts
With a hairbrush. Wait, that's a bad idea. Don't do that. Okay, round two. Which of the following statements is a true scientific wow? Is it A, the average garden snail has 14,000 teeth? Or is it B? Dogs tend to get cavities more often than humans do. Or is it C? The great white shark has the sharpest known teeth on Earth. Well, when you think you have the correct answer, try saying toothbrush without opening your mouth.
And time is up. And joining us by phone, it's Knox from Indiana with our winning wow. Hi, I'm Indian Guy Ross. My wow in the world is snails have over 14,000 teeth. Docs, Wowzers, if you guessed A, that the average garden snail has 14,000 teeth, well, congratulations, you found the winning wow. You heard that right. Snails have thousands of teeth.
And if you've ever seen a snail, you're probably wondering how they have the real estate to fit all of those teeth into their teeny tiny mouths. Well, it turns out snails have special tongues that are covered in rows of microscopic teeth. But they don't chew like you and me. They slice their food and pass it along their tongues past their thousands of teeth. Talk about a bumpy ride. Now, if you did not get that answer correct, you must stop...
Drop and run to the nearest dentist. And now it's time to take... Take a moment to thank our sponsors. Today's show is brought to you in part by Grandma Cheek Force's Ultra Spicy Toothpaste. This fresh new take on toothpaste puts a new spin on flavors you know and love. Check out her bestseller, Pepper X Mint, with a hint of the world's spiciest pepper, Pepper X. ¶ Round 3: Gila Monster Venom & Wrap-up
Back to Two What's and a Wow. Two What's and a Wow. The scientific game show that separates the wows from the what's. And now we're on to our final round of questions, round three. Which of the following statements is a true scientific wow? Is it A. Gila monsters have venom in their teeth? Or is it B. Hippos have the same number of teeth as humans. Or is it C? Reggie has teeth. Take a second to think this over, and when you think you know the correct answer, tell it to your toothbrush.
And time is up. And joining us by phone with the answer is Henry from Wisconsin. Henry, please tell us the winning wow. That's right, Henry. Wowzers, if you guessed A, that Gila monsters have venom in their teeth, congratulations, you found the winning wow. Gila monsters are a type of lizard that have venom in the grooves of their teeth on their lower jaw. Their venom is one of the reasons they're able to catch their prey.
And it's also a reason I do not have one as a pet. Yes. Now, if you did not get that answer correct, you must stop, drop, and search for the tooth fairy. What was that? Oh, Guy Raz, that sound can mean only one thing. My kale chips are overcooked in the oven? Uh, probably. But this time, I think that sound means it's time for today's winning Wowzers. All of our winning Wowzers today will receive their very own invisible plaque. Oh, I love a plaque, especially one that's made of gold and silver.
This one is actually made up of bacteria. Here, I brought some tartar too. Oh, Mindy. Fire away! Well, that's about all the time we have for today.
