¶ Resisting the Playdate's End
Hey, Wombuddies. Do you have a hard time when something fun has to end? Well, so do I. Me too. Times three. So here's the little bit sniffly, but mostly happy story of how me, Zeke, and Louisa... That's me! Learn to say goodbye! So here's where the story starts. Louisa has come over for a playdate. Woo-woo! Playdate, playdate! Woo-woo! Playdate, playdate! And after we have played about, uh, ten thousand... We start playing Swingy Hammock, which is when we get in Zeke's hammock and swing!
We swingy swingy swingy swingy swing first we swing so fast Hey, kiddos. Louisa, your mama just called. It's time to skedaddle on home. Can't I stay? Please? With sugar and jam on top? Your mama wants you home for supper, honey bun. Time to say goodbye, you two. And wave to you from the window. Squish? I'll try to walk Louisa home, but I'll be right back. Don't be long. Supper's almost ready. Louisa, Louisa, I have an idea. What if I walk you home?
And then we say goodbye. Yay, oh yay! But let's not walk to my house. Let's scarp. Uh, what's scarp? I'll show you. to say goodbye, unless you scop with me back to my house. Yes, except I'm all out of scops. Let's jump this time. This is it. We're back at my house. How about we do somersaults to my house and then we'll say goodbye? You're still here, Louisa?
¶ Inventing a Fun Goodbye Ritual
Looks like a few somebodies are having trouble ending their play date. That's sort of true. That's all the way true. Because we don't want our play date to end. We're having too much fun. Oh, but sometimes fun has to stop so you can eat your supper. You don't want it getting cold, do you? No, we're having coconut soup, which I love. Unless it's cold. And then I don't. How about this?
How about you come up with some steps for saying goodbye with a song? That'll make it more fun. You mean our own secret special goodbye just for Louisa and me? That's exactly what I mean. You two figure out the steps. I'll be inside making supper if you need me. What are we having? Spaghetti with zingy sauce. Just the way you like it. Okay, so what are the steps to our extra special Zeke and Louisa goodbye? Let's say there are three steps. Step one is we clap goodbye, like this.
Try it, Zeke. Bye-bye, see you later. Next play date will be even greater. a special week. to skip on home? Okey-doke. Let's do all three steps for real now. Ready? I am ready for our super duper, can't go wrong, extra special Zeke and Louisa. So your soup won't get cold.
¶ Goodbyes, Reflection, and Future Fun
across the living room, into the kitchen, and now I'm in my chair. Well, that was a little bit sniffly, but mostly happy way to say goodbye, Super. Glad to hear it. Perfect timing, too. Here's a... Big bowl of your favorite spaghetti. Thanks. Mmm. Mmm. Extra zingy sauce. Just the way I like it. Although I really miss Louisa. Think how happy she must be eating her own supper, just like you. I hope it's hot like mine is. I'll see her later, right?
Right as rain. Tomorrow, no doubt. So I'll see Louisa tomorrow. And tonight, I'm having spaghetti. Life is pretty, pretty good. That it is, Zeke. That it is. Try making up your own steps whenever you have to end a happy time. Or use the ones me and Zeke just invented. Step 1. Clap goodbye. a special week wave your arms up high wave your arms down low
