¶ Super's Farewell and Zadie's Sadness
Hey, Wombuddies. Do you sometimes feel sad about missing someone? Well, it happened to me. So here's the story of how I, Zadie, Learn to feel better about my sad. The story starts at the Everything Emporium. Mr. E is babysitting me, Zeke, and Malik because Grandma Super and Delia are going away. Or up, I should say, in their hot air balloon. I'm off to see the stars at night from way up high. Extra squishy goodbye, Hug Super. Oops, that's the signal that it's time to go. Be there in a jiffy.
Let me give a goodbye hug to Malik. Bye, Super. Have fun. Snout, too. Snout, too. Can't forget about snout, can I? A kiss on the snout for Snout and a goodbye hug for Zadie. I'm gonna miss you, Super. When are you coming back? Tomorrow morning, just like we talked about, Honey Bun. Thanks for watching my kiddos, Mr. E. Anytime, Super. Say hello to the stars for me. Toodaloo!
Don't miss us too much. Bye. Well, let's get ourselves into the Emporium. Time to hop, skip, and jump into bed. Or your sleeping bags, I should say. We just got here. Yeah, it's not time for bed yet. We want to have fun first. Fun? Ah. I am not used to this babysitting business. You will have to tell me how it's done.
It's easy, Mr. E. You let us play all around the Emporium and do fun things we don't get to do at home. That's how babysitting is done. Right, Zadie? Zadie, did you hear me? Um, sort of. What? We're telling Mr. E about all the fun we need to have. Sure, I guess. Mr. E! Why is Ady sitting down? Is she okay? She doesn't look okay. She doesn't sound okay either.
¶ Homesickness and Unsuccessful Cures
I am on it. This is a job for the babysitter. Zadie, it has been brought to my attention that you neither look... nor sound okay. Are you okay? Sure, I guess. That is not your okay voice, Sadie. Your okay voice sounds like... Yeah! Yeah. Yoo-hoo. Ooh. Snout says you sound sick. Does your tummy hurt? A little bit. I think I'm just homesick. How can you be homesick? We're still in the tree-ber-hood. Is it because you're not used to super being away? Maybe.
Aha! I, babysitter extraordinaire, have diagnosed the problem. You, Zadie, are super sick. As in, you miss super. I'm guessing. I guess I do. Oh, fear not. There is an easy cure for super sickness. It is... It is... Help me out, Malik, Zeke, Zadie. How do we fix this problem? I don't know. I've never been super sick. I have. I've been homesick and super sick. How did you fix it?
I called Super up on the phone and talked to her and it made me feel better. And then I didn't miss her so much. Bingo! Here, we shall use my phone. I'm calling Super now. Hello, whoever you are. I can't come to the phone right now, but if you leave a message after the beep, I'll get back to you in two shakes of a tambourine. Super wasn't able to answer the phone. So that didn't fix the problem. What else would make you feel better, Zadie? The only thing that will help is seeing Super.
Oh, oh, no, no, don't cry, Zadie. Hey, hey, hey, I have a plan. I shall distract you. I shall perform an act so astounding, so magical, you will forget all your cares. Pull up your chairs and prepare to be amazed. First, I shall tap dance. While juggling one, two, three water balloons. Juggling water balloons look hard. Not hard at all for a seasoned performer like myself.
Be careful, Mr. E. You're going to drop the balloons. That was so funny. Mr. E, did you mean to smash the water balloons like that? Of course not. I didn't think they'd make such a mess. Super would have liked that mystery. She loves when you do silly things. Well...
¶ Finding Comfort Through Song
I guess we need another plan to solve Zadie's super sickness problem. Ideas? Anyone? You know what? I need some fresh air. I'm going to go outside. Okay. It's so beautiful out here. I'm looking at the same stars that Super must be seeing. I miss you, Grandma Super! Wherever you are. What's that song, Super Sings? Whenever she's not feeling great. Oh, yeah. It's okay to feel blue.
Cause sometimes it's what you gotta do If you can find a way to feel okay It will brighten up your day Put yourself in a place or a space You can find a way to feel okay. It will brighten your day. Singing that song made me feel better. Zadie! Malik, Zeke and I are just checking in to see how you're doing. Actually, I feel better. I remembered Super Song about being sad. You mean the It's Okay to Feel Blue song? Exactly. It's okay to feel blue.
Cause sometimes it's what you gotta do If you can find a way to feel okay It will brighten up your day Put yourself in a place And Zadie's feeling better! Is everyone ready for bed? No! We still need to have fun, Mystery! Can we ride your motorized chair? All around the store and then to the ice cream freezer? And can we eat our ice cream wearing sunglasses and pretend it's summer? And sing songs at the top of our lungs and never go to bed? Hmm. Uh, are these super approved activities?
No, not really. Aha. Then no, you may not. Or just a bit. Well, just some of it. After you get into your pajamas. So that's my story, Womp Buddies. Just remember, if you ever get homesick or missing somebody sick, Try making different plans until you find one that works for you. Like singing a song. It's okay to feel blue. Cause sometimes it's what you gotta do If you can find a way to feel okay It will brighten up your day Put yourself in a place or a space
